Hi everybody and all aboard to "Chev's Choice".
As you can see I'm not in my usual spot.
That's because I'm in Venice for a few days for work.
But I found some time in between to make this video for you.
Before we can concentrate fully on the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon there's the Junior
Eurovision happening this weekend in Tbilisi Georgia.
If you want to see my reviews for Lisbon, please subscribe to my channel and click on
the little bell icon, so you don't miss out on a video.
Now back to the Juniors: 16 countries compete and the first rehearsals are over, on which
I try to make my guess on who's most likely going to win this year.
I'm impressed with the stagings in general and in my opinion Junior Eurovision has really
improved a lot visually this year.
Now I will only reveal my top 5, because if I would talk about all of them it would take
too long and I would be far too critical which is unfair to the children that all do their
best.
I find it really hard anyway to judge the performances because it's hard to compare
kids / teenagers with this fairly large age difference.
And I'm honestly impressed with so many contestants this year, so it was a struggle
to get down to 5, here are my 5 favorites:
5: Malta What a cute and fun performance this is.
Gianluca is clearly enjoying himself.
If it were a performance for the adult Eurovision it would be too extra for my taste, but in
this context and with this song it works really well.
4: Albania I have to say, I didn't like the song at
all when I just listened to it.
But i'm really impressed with this little girl and her powerful voice.
And I love that most performances this year let the children be children and don't dress
them up as little adults and especially don't dress them up in sexy outfits which I find
always very inappropriate and uncomfortable to watch.
But Ana Kodra is a child and doesn't hide it while still belching out the song.
So I'm really impressed with her.
3: Ireland I guess that not many people will rank Ireland's
Muireann McDonnell this high, and I wouldn't have either before I saw the performance.
but I love how secure this girl stands alone on the stage with her guitar and again she
can be herself, they don't disguise her in a dress that doesn't suit her.
Everything makes sense in this stripped back performance, and if this pure authenticity
comes across on camera I really think Muireann can impress us and maybe even get higher than
3rd place!
2: Russia I love Russia's song and I did like the
music video as well, even though it's a little too late for the chandelier contemporary
dance hype.
In the performance they take a similar route and it's a little hard to judge how well
it will come across on camera.
Right now I don't like the part where the boy dancer gets switched out and suddenly
there are 4 girls dancing very differently than before, but maybe it will make sense
in the end.
If they play it well, I think Russia could even win.
1: Serbia I loved these two from the first moment that I
saw the music video.
Yes they are dressed in costumes, but it doesn't seem forced.
The choreography and the staging is cute and to me it's a really original song that stands
out.
They still seem a little shy in their first rehearsals, so really hope they get more comfortable
on stage.
I don't know if they can win, but I think they have what it takes.
So these are my top 5, but again I have to say I found it incredibly hard to make this
list, especially ranking the top 3.
But anyway I'm really excited to watch the show and find out what happens.
Who's your favorite so far?
Tell me in the comments below.
For now thank you so much for watching and enjoy the show!
Bye :-)
