Roman Reigns made a bit of personal history on Monday Night RAW when he won the Intercontinental
Championship off The Miz.
That gives Reigns a career grand slam, and it's almost surprising it took this long for
that to happen, what with how hard Roman has been pushed since debuting in the WWE.
Why did this happen, and why did it happen right now?
Here are five reasons why Roman Reigns is currently the Intercontinental champion.
1.
Miz needs some time off: It seemed strange that The Miz lost to Baron Corbin at Survivor
Series, and then lost his title to Reigns.
However, when you know what's going on outside the world of wrestling it makes total sense.
The Miz is going to be off TV for a while, because he will be filming a new movie in
The Marine franchise.
Plus, his wife Maryse is pregnant, so this is a great time for Miz to drop the belt.
2.
The Shield gets a boost: When The Shield reformed, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins were tag team
champs.
Then they lost the title to Sheamus and Cesaro in order to give Survivor Series a boost.
The Shield are the biggest trio in the WWE, and it would feel weird for them to all be
without a belt.
Thus, Reigns is now Intercontinental champion.
3 The WWE still love Reigns: In the end, do we really need to say more than "He's Roman
Reigns, dude."
After all, the WWE loves him, and have pushed him to the Moon and back.
Why wouldn't they put a belt on him?
This was the biggest title they could give him, since it's his buddies Ambrose and Rollins
who are the tag team.
4.
The WWE needed a big name to hold the belt: With Miz taking time off, the WWE needed to
put the Intercontinental title on somebody.
The title is particularly important on RAW, since Brock Lesnar and the Universal title
are rarely on TV.
Most of the time, the Intercontinental Championship is the biggest one on the show.
You want a big name holding that belt, and it also had to be a face, since they had to
take it off The Miz.
Sure, some fans still boo Reigns, but he's technically a face, and a worthy person to
win the title.
5.
It opens the door for The Shield to be running RAW: As previously mentioned, Ambrose and
Rollins were tag champions not all that long ago.
They will surely square off with Sheamus and Cesaro again, and they could easily get the
better of The Bar this time.
If that happens, suddenly all three members of The Shield are champs.
If they want to validate the trio, and their reunion, this is the perfect way to do that.
They are one step of the way there.
The next step will likely happen soon enough.

If It's Not a New Year What Is It? - Duration: 3:43.
Hi, I'm Susan Lapin with my husband Rabbi Daniel Lapin.
We're here to discuss the Jewish holidays that come through this year, and I think in the last video
We did you spoke that we would discuss the very first one that comes up of the Jewish New Year.
Called - which is not really called the Jewish New Year -
It's really called the "head of the year". Rosh Hashanah. RDL: In the Lord's language, Rosh Hashanah, and "rosh" means head;
so it's the head of the year. And
Immediately you get the idea that this is not party time.
But the relationship between this biblical festival and the rest of the year is
exactly the same as the relationship
between the head, and the rest of the body. In other words, in ancient Jewish
wisdom that parallel is the horse and the rider.
The head is the rider the rest of our body is the horse; and the question is who's in charge?
Who's going to be directing things? And the idea is, that the head should direct the body, rather than the body being in charge by
itself. And
similarly that the Rosh Hashanah this holiday that begins
the year, should start off the year, set the patterns for how the rest of the year is going to go.
Susan: I think one of the ways one of the things that makes us very sad is when we hear people say oh the Jewish holidays
are very somber.
There's a big difference between
Serious and somber that somehow lost in our society.
They're very joyful. Rosh Hashanah is an extremely joyful holiday. It is serious.
It's setting the pattern for the year. It's a time when we say God
please give us another year. We may have messed up last year, but we really would appreciate the opportunity to do better.
Please give us another year in which to show you we can do better. Well. That's very joyful.
That's a very exciting thing; and there's not a contradiction between that and serious.
RDL: not at all. And
another thing to bear in mind is that at the beginning of the year
relatively small matters can really impact in in a very big way.
And these are some of the things we're going to look a little bit further in the series.
Where we talk about some of the things we do on Rosh Hashanah. We eat apple and honey;
Why why would we do that?
But even more importantly than that, we blow a ram's horn called the shofar. And
maybe Susan will even let me demonstrate to you my
my minimalistic skills in that area. But it doesn't matter because
The the idea is the thing. But how do these things impact our year. We'll talk a little bit about that as well.
Susan: I just want to make the point that I think
sadly many many Jews have a very childish relationship with with God and with their religion. And
so a lot of times, what you see in the popular culture will show this very serious person in rabbinical garb
Blowing a shofar for children or children dipping apples and honey. Well that's something we do even if there are no children around.
It's not something childish.
It's actually something very adult. In the same way that when a child is conceived,
every single
minuscule thing that happens during that conception really matters. RDL: Let's go into that in more detail on the next video.
Let's rather do that; and meanwhile right now, just let's wish all of you a fantastic
5,778; beginning this Wednesday night. A new year of health, happiness, and prosperity.
I'm Rabbi Daniel Lapin together with my wife Susan.
