SNAPlife: Why IS IT A Mountian Made Out Of A Molehill - Duration: 2:50.I'm Bill Snodgrass. Welcome to this SNAPlife episode. In this SNAPlife episode
we're gonna talk about a communication concept… a communication concept and
again this this comes from this comes from I son, Nathan, who actually has a
friend who they had this conversation and he passed it on to me you ever been
in a conversation where someone's like ah ah and you think why are you making
why are you making a mountain out of a molehill why are you making a mountain
out of the mole no that's actually the right question to ask if you think
someone is making a mountain out of a molehill you're you're not really
listening the way you should be that sound like a contradiction to everything
you've ever heard before think about it if this is a mountain to them and you're
thinking it's no big deal you're missing something you're missing something in
that conversation that would explain why it's a mountain to them why is it a
mountain to them that is the question that you need to be asking yourself not
criticizing them for making it into a mountain but investigating and as to why
whatever the situation is that's no big deal to you why I said a big deal to
them that is when you begin to do the kind of communication that's gonna lead
you and your relationship to a growth potential you're gonna grow towards one
another when you start figuring out why whatever that thing is is a mountain to
that person and you don't think it's a big deal now what are some of the
options one is they're just messed up and they're making a mountain out of a
molehill for no good reason the other option is there's a good reason that
that's a mountain to them what whatever it is if you're a good friend
you're a good communicator if you're a good listener a manager talking to an
employee an employee talking to a manager a teacher and student counsellor
or whatever whatever whatever if communication is the goal you're
gonna find out why it's a mountain that's it for the snap life episode

less is more - what does better look like? - Duration: 8:51.hello there you're watching Pro-Gamer Parent. I'm Ric and today I'm going to
talk to you but less is more but perhaps not in the way you imagine do you want
your kid to not spend every minute in front of their passion their pavillion
play then this cost is for you less is more it's something I teach leaders in
corporate and I practice myself that really daring to talk about what matters
to daring to free up time to grab opportunity makes a huge difference in
business and in life health in everything because you can't be too busy
to Frank's important thoughts that needs to be acted on and you can't be so busy
so you see opportunity and you don't have time to act on it yet we're living
in a society where BC appears to be successful and we're live in a society
where we think more is better but it's not more computer gameplay will not get
your kid where they want to be then even more important when we talk about less
is more removing them from the scene will not make them do anything else what
we as a parent has except that their social network is majority within the
game or within the systems of multiple games and if we remove them from that
it's probably hurtful so we have to be respectful of that and then remind them
of less is more or as Seth Cohen says better is better
than more and instead of removing them saying time block stop you can't
excessively I do believe you can make a nudge
but we have to remind them that for example as you've seen in previous shows
look up their Idol look up where they recommend do some physical training so
you can think read up on a few tactics were the importance of rest the
importance that you become the company you keep in real life not just within
the game and look up a few articles on change what happens how many transfer
from one platform to another so they can see things in a perspective and don't
say and then I'm gonna as a result of these five articles I'm gonna shut the
door instead remind them that they will do better in the game that they like
they will have whatever status they prefer to have with their friends in
game as a result of doing less but more focused play not probably going to be
extremely more successful for you and your kid in the long run than just
shutting the door and thinking if you physically block their access then they
have to go somewhere else but it's not that simple and I love
reading the book by email or known as he turning this way
it's Swedish and I don't know the English title sorry that he he said his
mom used to physically disconnect a few cables in the router and thus he can
play but of course he learned that unplug the saying as soon as she left
and our kids are smarter than us they will find workaround yes by blocking one
door will not say oh I'm gonna go outdoors and enjoy the sunshine that big
they gonna find a way to open that door or sit in front of that door nor
and not doing anything that's favorable for either of you
so yeah it's your responsibility to find a new angle and I know this can be
extremely tiring and I know it's not easy but try a few of this different
angles don't give up and they might be not as successful as you want from your
perspective but they're probably gonna be more set more successful for you by
hinting at the benefit of another way hinting at the benefit of less is more
so so they can do better that's what you want for that healthy better sustainable
better bits little better you probably want them to level up and
live the life of their dreams right in a sustainable way so try it please try it
don't yes time block because someone said so don't just shut the door because
you think well I don't know what to do to try some of these and you know what
the best of this is you can talk about them who their idols are they will give
you the machine you need if you just listen but once again add something you
might have to do a few web searches so you can add to that they're telling you
one story about their hair and as you will see if you do take a look at some
of the top performers they do advocate physical training for example and then
you kind of mind them about that then you can talk about how you can help what
make that happen and once again don't set the threshold is high if they've
never got gone to a physical training before sit alone Sloane arches and
celebrate the wins there until you have a habit before you have a habit it's
pointless so to start with a high ambition when you do go training and
same thing with most changes celebrate the small wins until you have a habit
and eventually they will rise proud and feel
accomplished and become better players in turn so less is more and lastly I
want to tell you that all successful people really really successful people
like Warren Buffett and Bill Gates and I could probably mention a lot of names
then they have a lot of time at their hand for just thinking and questioning
their methods of doing things saying well how can I do things differently
because that's the way to commit to things something from an angle no one's
thought of it before and if you just serve busiest plane fall following the
rules within the game thinking more is better they're not gonna get there so
talk to them about that logic and see if that helps them broaden their activities
a lot less a lot more better than yes starting the door so give it a try any
if you want your kid to do less gaming put it in the comments with some
explanation on why and how you're trying to make it better and perhaps we can
help you or the opposite if you're a viewer that really really say well more
is better it's perfect share that so we can understand that part of the question
too because I think a lot of parents right now feel very very alone with
their struggles and I'm not saying there is one way we're here to together figure
out your unique way your family's unique balance then you need to have and how
that balance looks is gonna be unique to your family
so do share your thoughts and I'm happy to dive into and share my world view on
whatever question you have have a good one my friend take care bye
you
