Sky Sports reporter reveals why Keita style deal OFF for Liverpool target Pulisic ● News Now ● #LFC - Duration: 2:17.

LIVERPOOL are likely to miss out on signing American wonderkid Christian Pulisic, according

to journalist Michael Bridge.

The Borussia Dortmund winger had been linked with a move to Jurgen Klopp's big spending

Reds as the German puts together a viable squad to challenge for the Premier League

title.

The USA international moved to Dortmund at the age of just 16, making 97 appearances

in the two-and-a-half seasons he has spent with the first team, scoring 12 goals.

And while Klopp has an interest in bringing his former player to Anfield, it seems a straight-forward

deal, like that of Naby Keita's, may prove more difficult.

Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast, reporter Bridge said: "Keita had the £48million

release clause which kicked in this summer and Liverpool paid a premium on that to secure

him."

"Leipzig were destined to lose him anyway but Dortmund aren't in that position with

Pulisic."

"He is some player.

You'd imagine him having interest from all the top European clubs.

"Jurgen Klopp absolutely gets a player when he likes them."

The Reds boss has spent a total of £175m on big name signings including Fabinho, Xherdan

Shaqiri and Keita.

However, their show-stopping move this summer has been their record-breaking goalkeeper

transfer.

"They have signed Alisson now and they really needed to strengthen and they've got that

done," Bridge said.

"It just begs the question why didn't they get a top goalie in sooner."

With Liverpool bosses showing their enthusiasm to splash the cash, it is difficult to rule

out a possible move for Pulisic.

The transfer window closes on Thursday, with Liverpool rumoured to still be eyeing moves

for Arsenal's Aaron Ramsey

and Lyon's Nabil Fekir.

Targeted vs. broader agents for maintenance in AML - Duration: 2:18.

Speaking to the question of whether you should use targeted therapies or

agents with broader anti-leukemic specificity, of course, is actually what

do we know about the biology of disease relapse? Well, there's some emerging data.

Firstly, we're now getting better at identifying risk factors for early

relapse, so patients with the FLT3 mutation have a much higher risk of

early than late relapse. There are a number of transplant factors that seem

to protect against early relapse, with the choice of the use of an

unrelated donor. And secondly, next-generation sequencing data, which

shows that quite commonly at relapse there is loss of mutations, putative

driver mutations, that were present at diagnosis, and again that steers you a

little bit more towards using, as a maintenance strategy, drugs with a

broader anti-leukemic specificity. And then finally, I think in this setting of

maintenance we need to be thoughtful about the use of donor lymphocytes,

the challenge with AML is if it relapses it relaxes quickly and to get DLI in the

first 6 months post-transplant is challenging so there's a meaningful

dose. And also there's emerging interest now of course about using CAR T-cells

post-transplant and that's an area I'm sure there's gonna be a lot of research

in. So, broadly there's a number of options, there's very little randomized

data to inform our practice, and what is vital and encouraging to see now is the

growth of prospective randomized trials answering many of these pivotal

questions, without which we're unlikely to be able to significantly improve the

outcomes after an allograft, but with which I think we're going to firstly

have a better understanding about the biology of relapse, because prospective

trials drive collection of high-quality biological material, and secondly there's

every reason to believe that there are strategies out there that are going to

have the potential to improve outcome.

UK Sport's 'no compromise' policy finally comes up for debate - Duration: 6:17.

UK Sport's 'no compromise' policy finally comes up for debate

The battle for UK Sport's soul has raged for years but it has been a one-sided skirmish.

The policy of "no compromise" – which rewards successful sports and rips funding from those that fail – has always triumphed.

Why, its supporters argue, tamper with a system that has taken Britain from 38th in the medal table at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996 to second at Rio 20 years later?.

Perhaps.

But slowly the debate is shifting.

There have been too many queasy reports of a culture of fear inside British sports; too much unease about a system that denies the likes of wheelchair rugby any help; even some soul-searching inside UK Sport about what the organisation, and the funding of elite sport, should look like in the future.

Now Ed Warner, the former chair of UK Athletics, has thrown a firecracker into the room by suggesting the system is "bloated", has become complacent on lottery funding and needs a "radical overhaul".

Controversially he has also claimed there are a "number of sports who are not as lean as they should be but it hasn't suited UK Sport to cut their funding because it then undermines the whole philosophy which is win more medals, get more money".

Warner believes that status quo can no longer hold given the widespread assumption that the government will no longer iron-clad UK Sport's funding after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

He is far from alone in that assessment.

Fresh ideas will need to be explored, interrogated, perhaps even integrated.

Crucially Warner, who has been an interim chair of the British Equestrian Federation and British Basketball, has proposed how to square what has long seemed an impossible circle: finding a way to give all Olympic sports a baseline level of funding without massively affecting Britain's medal chances.

His suggestion is Olympic sports generate 25% of their finances themselves after Tokyo 2020 through commercial, sponsorship or members' fees – a figure that would grow to 50% by 2028.

Warner says the plan would immediately save £18m a year, enough to help the 12 Olympic sports not currently funded by UK Sport.

As he points out, it should not be that hard given the flab in the system.

"We have got to the point where some big sports don't know how to spend the money they are getting from UK Sport," he says.

"They are funding too many people.".

Warner, whose book 'Sport Inc' gives a hard-hitting account of what goes on behind the scenes in elite sport, says UK Sport is losing sight of the bigger picture.

"For me it should be more about making the nation proud in the right way – whether that is winning medals, setting PBs, or a team unexpectedly getting out of group stages.".

The word inside UK Sport is that the venerable Liz Nicholl, the long-standing chief executive, and the formidable Chelsea Warr, the director of performance, are not persuaded by the need for change.

Sebastian Coe, who led London's successful 2012 Olympics bid and is now president of the IAAF, also believes the system is largely working.

"I think there are very few occasions in the history of the nation where you can genuinely point to something that you are better at than anywhere else in the world," he says.

"So I don't want to cede that territory.".

The great unknown is where Dame Katherine Grainger stands.

Grainger, who has made an overwhelmingly positive impression since taking over as chair of UK Sport last year, is a product of the system, having won five Olympic rowing medals in a glittering career.

Yet she has also hinted at being open to the possibility of reform.

A public consultation about the future of UK Sport finishes on 19 August.

If there are calls for change, will Grainger be bold enough to wield the scalpel?.

The Curious Monkey

A carpenter was working hard to divide a log into two parts.

He was sawing from morning to noon, but was able to cut only half-way through.

He was hungry.

So he pushed a wedge into the split and went for lunch.

A monkey was watching the carpenter.

He became curious of the wedge.

He climbed down from the tree and went upto the log.

He tried to pull the wedge.

It did not yield.

He sat on the log with legs on each side.

The tail was dangling down through the split.

He tried again and again.

All of a sudden, the wedge came out.

The log stuck together with a snap cutting off the dancing tail with it.

The monkey lost its tail because of his curiosity.

Moral of the story is

"LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP"

Karunanidhi's health condition deteriorates, under close watch for next 24 hours

Karunanidhi's health condition deteriorates, under close watch for next 24 hours Maintaining Karunanidhi's vital organ functions continues to remain a challenge, says Kauvery Hospital.

Chennai's Kauvery hospital has confirmed that the health condition of DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi declined on Monday. In the latest bulletin released on the former Tamil Nadu chief minister's health, the hospital said that maintaining Karunanidhi's vital organ functions remained a challenge.

"There has been decline in the medical condition of Kalaignar Dr M Karunanidhi, DMK President and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Maintaining his vital organ functions continues to remain a challenge considering his age related ailments," read the bulletin.

"His is on continuous monitoring and being treated with active medical support. His response to the medical interventions over the next 24 hours will determine the prognosis," it further read.

Chennai's Kauvery Hospital issues the medical bulletin of DMK Chief M Karunanidhi; states a decline in his medical condition Tamil Nadu Congress unit chief S Thirunavukkarasar had earlier said that there was "some setback" in Karunanidhi's health on Monday morning, adding that the condition had improved since then.

After visiting the DMK patriarch in the hospital, he had said, "There was some setback in his health in the morning, after that it is improving. He is still under doctors' observation and treatment.

I pray to God for his speedy recovery." Kauvery Hospital, where DMK leader and veteran politician is currently admitted, had last week said that the 94-year-old needs to be kept for an extended period 'due to age-related overall decline in his health.' Karunanidhi was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital after his blood pressure dropped.

His health deteriorated later, leading to well-wishers and party cadres flocking to the hospital.

Over the days since he has been hospitalised, at least 21 dedicated workers of the party lost their lives after they were unable to bear the "shock" of his illness.

DMK working president MK Stalin, while mourning the death of 21 DMK members over Karunanidhi's ill health, had appealed to the cadres not to take any extreme step and maintain calm.

-I saw Pippy backstage.

-And that's Big. -And that is Big.

-He belongs to my daughter and her now husband.

And that -- They just got married.

And that's Pippy and Big at their wedding.

Were they involved with the wedding at all?

-Big -- Big was definitely part of the ceremony.

-Yeah.

-But Annie said, "Mom, just this once,

can Pippy not be around?"

[ Laughs ]

-Is he just a distracting, little dog?

-Well, he knew where the treats were

in Frazier's pocket. -Yeah. So, he would -- Yeah.

-He would have gone straight for the treats.

-He would have went nuts. Yeah.

-He got a lot of steak during the dinner, though.

-Come on. This little dude?

-Yeah. -Yeah, he got some steak.

Oh, come on. Look at how cute that dog is.

You've been -- now, I saw

you were at the premiere in L.A. for "The Wife."

And I want to talk about this movie 'cause man,

again, you just knocked it out of the park,

and you're just so good.

You know that. But, I -- I saw you

at the premiere and some photo of you and Rose Byrne,

and I go -- I just love you.

I go, "Explain this photo to me."

I mean, I just don't know.

[ Laughs ] What -- What happened?

-Rosie -- Rosie and I did "Damages" for five years.

-That's right. -And there was a --

"Oh, I'm gonna lay down. Do the pose."

-Then I forgot that this is a Valentino dress.

-Oh, my goodness. Good gosh.

-On loan. -On loan.

Yeah. Of course. Yeah. -Yeah.

-Now you don't want to roll around, wrestle with that.

You're like, "No, this is too expensive."

I just love that you do stuff like that.

You told me that while you were in L.A. for this premiere,

an odd interaction happened between a fan and you.

[ Both laugh ]

-Yeah. I was -- I was in the hotel,

and I was in the elevator and the doors opened

and this woman, she had -- she had dark glasses on.

She said...

"Cloris Leachman!"

[ Laughter ]

And I said, "no, I'm Glenn Close."

She said "No, you're not."

[ Laughter ]

And I said, "Yes, I am."

-"Yes I am, actually."

-And then she said, "I meant that!"

-Yeah, yeah. Cloris Leachman?

-Yeah. -Interesting.

-I ran up to my room.

And Cloris Leachman is a wonderful actress.

-Sure. Of course. -But I-I-I found out

that she was born in 1926...

[ Laughter ]

...and she's 92 years old!

[ Laughs ]

And I just have to say...

-She is a great actress -- But yeah.

-...I hope I'm still acting like she is when I'm 92 years old.

-Please. I know you will. But that's just --

Gosh, that just makes me laugh.
