welcome to Tarrant County College!
In this video, we will be talking briefly about Title IX - what it is and what you,
as a student, can expect from TCC.
So, let's get started.
Title IX is a federal law that prohibits the discrimination of individuals on the basis
of sex, gender, and gender identity.
But it's more than just discrimination, it also includes sexual harassment, domestic
violence, dating violence, sexual assault, or stalking.
TCC, is committed to providing an environment free from discrimination, and believe all
members of our community are responsible for preventing behaviors that make our environments
unsafe.
Should you, or someone you know, need to report any type of sexual misconduct, please contact
your Campus Police Department, the District Title IX Coordinator, and/or your Campus Coordinator
of Student Support.
These individuals will be able to assist you, and provide guidance and information.
Additionally, TCCD Police has a Victim Assistance Unit that supports victims and their families
through their trauma.
know that all TCC employees, with the exception of mental health counselors
and health service employees, are considered "responsible employees."
A responsible employee is required to notify the District Title IX Coordinator of all reported
incidents of alleged sexual misconduct.
If you wish to keep your information confidential, please speak with a campus mental health counselor
or health services employee.
On each campus, there is a program called the CARE Team.
Each CARE Team has campus personnel that respond when students are in distress
or crisis If you are concerned about a student, including
yourself, or believe a person's behavior poses a threat to themselves, the campus,
or the surrounding community, submit a CARE Team incident report.
The CARE Team will be able to provide assistance and resources to ensure the students' success,
and maintain a safe learning environment for everyone.
Any individual can report incidents regarding behavior, ranging from disruptions in the
classroom to incidents of academic dishonesty.
The Incident Report Form allows any individual within our community to report concerning
behaviors inside and outside of the classroom.
The form can be accessed online by visiting www.tccd.edu/care
Individuals can submit an incident report form anonymously, but it may limit the effectiveness in dealing
with the reported behavior.
TCC highly recommends including your name and contact information.
If you wish to report any sexual misconduct or other behavior concerns please
visit the TCC Police Victim Assistance webpage.
Once an incident report is received, a Student Conduct Officer starts an investigation to
gather information.
And what exactly happens if someone submits a report alleging that a student violated a student handbook
policy?
Students receive an email requesting to schedule an appointment to review the information
submitted, students rights and responsibilities, and allows individuals to share their perspective on
the reported behavior.
Once all information is gathered, the report will be submitted to the Vice President for
Student Development Services.
If necessary, the Vice President will meet with the student for an Administrative Conference.
After the Administrative Conference, the Vice President will make a determination on whether
the student has violated the policy or not, and can issue appropriate disciplinary sanctions.
All students have the option to appeal the Vice President's decision up to the campus
president.
The purpose of the student conduct process is to reflect on the incident, accept personal
responsibility and to redirect towards constructive behavior.
It is important to go into the conduct process with an open mind and to be honest.
Reporting incidents are one thing, staying
safe is another.
TCC encourages students to know your student rights and responsibilities; including the federal
mandates that protect you and those around you.
But it is equally important to be aware of your surroundings, to be an "active bystander"
- step in, speak up, or reach out in situations that are, or could be, harmful to a specific
person or a group of people.
Always remember to keep yourself safe, and if things get out of hand, or become too serious,
contact campus police immediately.
You know that drugs and alcohol have no place at TCC.
Possession, sale and/or use of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs on any campus is prohibited
by TCC policy.
Possession, consumption, and/or sale of alcohol or illegal drugs is also forbidden during
any college-sponsored activities at off-campus locations, or while traveling for campus activities.
If you break these drug and alcohol policies, you may also be breaking local, state and
federal laws.
If you feel like something is going wrong, or you are not sure who to talk to please
visit with your campus Coordinator of Student Support, and they will point you in the right
direction!
