Surah 3 - The Cure for Grief and Sadness - Duration: 10:21.

Bismillahi Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim. Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh, my respected

brothers and sisters and viewers. In today's world, every person we meet,

irrespective of their age and their occupation, everyone has a story of pain

and grief hidden behind their smile. And sometimes we recognize their pain, and

many times we often neglect their pain that they express on their face.

The disguise on the smile that they share in public. And the people who go through

pain, they often miscalculate and misunderstand that this pain or this

grief or this hardship could be a punishment from Allah (SWT)

or that Allah (SWT) is displeased with me and

Allah (SWT) is angry and he's punishing me for something that I did wrong when I was

young or I did wrong in my past. Brothers and sisters and friends, pain is

something and grief and sorrow is something that Allah (SWT)

by His decision, and his wisdom, by His infinite knowledge he afflicts people with

the believing men and women to test them. ...

He wants to examine the person. How they react in this situation.

Allah (SWT) says in the Qur'an, "..."

Does this human actually believe and think that they

will say they believe in Allah and they won't be tested for their belief? And

every great human, men and women, that have come to this world, from Prophet

Adam (A) to Prophet Muhammad (S) and the likes of these great

giants, they have all been tested. And their test wasn't a punishment, but

rather it was a form of elevating their status and making an example for all of

us today who are going through pain. And now while I'm sharing this, many times

when we meet someone, we don't know their narrative and what they're going through.

And we're so quick at judging their attitude, and their behavior, and their

dryness, and the lack of social behavior within society

But, friends, we also have to understand that there are people who are

going through pain and not always they're going to give you the same

respect and the same welcoming. And that's something that we should also

consider when meeting people, especially aged people, our parents, our uncles.

They've gone through decades of pain of their children, of their parents.

And that's something that we have to be conscious of when we're interacting with

people, socializing with people, because people have, everyone has their own story

of pain. Today, brothers and sisters, I want to share with you the story of pain.

The pain that was expressed by Prophet Yaqoob (A) and Yusuf (A), a father and a son, that

was caused innocently because Yusuf (A) was innocent, but this pain was expressed on

both sides. And Surah Yusuf is a very interesting surah, one of my favorite

surahs in the Quran. It is a surah that I want you to also look at tonight. Today when I'm

done, I want you to open the Quran, and all your life, when you have time,

whenever you go through pain, this is a surah you must open and recognize that

this Prophet, who is the most beautiful human in the world, whose father was a

Prophet, whose grandfather was a Prophet, whose great-grandfather was a Prophet.

Yusuf (A), the son of Yaqoob (A), the son of Ishaq (A), the son of Ibrahim (A), the most

handsome human in the world is going through a ride and a tide that's

going to change the perspective of how pain is supposed to be experienced. And

what should be the reaction when people go through pain? Prophet Yusuf's (A)

surah was so beautiful that Umar (R) would recite this so often,

Abdullah ibn Amr (R) says that, "..."

Umar (R) used to read Surah Yusuf

so often in Fajr, because he loved this surah and it reminded him of the day

that was ahead, and the responsibility that was ahead was hidden in the lessons

of Surah Yusuf. That's Umar (R). And a sahabi says that I learned it just by

listening to it while he would recite in Salat-ul-Fajr. So brothers and sisters

and friends, Surah Yusuf has a great narrative where the men and the women at

the time of the Prophet (saw) say, "Ya Rasoolullah, so much has been revealed, tell us a

story." Allah says "you want to hear a story?" ... We'll give you the best

story. The story of one of the greatest humans, and the greatest

families. Yusuf's (A) father and family go through so much pain and we

all know the story, but there are a few things I want to talk to you about this

story. In pain, when we go through pain we don't recognize and sometimes we

forget, "Does Allah (SWT) recognize my pain? Does Allah (SWT) know what I'm going through?

Do the people around understand the suffering that I'm going through?"

And we start to question Allah's (SWT) knowledge. And then the second thing we question

its what's the wisdom in this situation? Someone loses a child, someone has a

miscarriage, someone loses a parent, someone in early life and they have four

children who have no one to take care of them. And all this is going on. Someone

who is healthy all of a sudden becomes sick. Someone who's been well in school,

well in career, all of a sudden there's a conflict in marriage and their

marriage is in shatters and in pieces. So much happening to a perfect lifestyle

and sometimes we question, "Why? Why me? What's the wisdom behind this?"

And it's difficult to put the puzzle together when so many things are unanswered.

And this is where Allah says three times in Surah Yusuf and every time it's in a

different perspective, different context. In the beginning of Surah Yusuf,

Allah (SWT), in aayah number 6, chapter number 12, where Allah says

"..." After Yusuf (A) expresses his dream to his

father and his father says, "...". Don't express this dream to

your brothers. And this part of the surah, the beginning first six verses

Allah (SWT) says to the Prophet, "...". Your Lord is all

knowledgeable and all wise. Why? Why? Brother, this is so powerful. This surah

is revealed in a time of the Prophet's (S) life when he was going through the most

pain. He's gone through a siege, and social isolation, financial

isolation. They are given no respect and no freedom to practice. For

three years, in the valley of Abu Talib they're kept and sieged with

no support. After three years of pain, the tenth year, what happens? The Prophet (S)

loses his beloved uncle, his external support.

And three days later he loses his most beloved wife Khadija (R), his internal

support. So pain after pain, darkness after darkness, suffering after suffering.

Upon who? Yusuf (A) was handsome, so was our Prophet (S) handsome. Yusuf (A) was perfect, so

was our Prophet (S) was perfect. Yusuf (A) was innocent and our Prophet (S) was innocent.

But there was a test for all great people. And there will always come. And Allah

says, "..." Oh Muhammad (S), you're the first recipient of the surah.

Your Lord is full of knowledge of the situation and all wise. And another

proposed benefit of the surah is that when the Prophet (S) was given the surah

the surah was addressed to the Prophet (S) and also his companions. And the second place

where Allah (SWT) uses the word knowledge 'Aleem and Hakeem is in

ayah number 83. Beautiful place, where Allah (SWT) talks about when

the Brothers of Yusuf (A) come back and they lose their second brother Binyamin (A).

Now Yaqub (A) has lost Yusuf (A) and his Binyamin (A). Now the pain is increased.

Over here Allah (SWT) said, "...". Allah, he indeed

is the most knowledgeable, 'Aleem, and Hakeem, the most wise. And in this

part, Allah (SWT) emphasizes more because there's more pain, there's more emphasis because Allah (SWT)

knows about the situation. And before the pain started Allah (SWT) knew what's right

Allah (SWT) knew what was what the wisest choice for the person. In the midst of pain,

Allah (SWT) knows what's right, and what's the right choice for you. And when the pain

was over, and when the brothers were united with the father, and the children,

and the mother, "..." When the father was given the respect on

the throne and the dream was interpreted.

"..."

"..."

"..."

SubhanAllah. When the pain was over, when the dust

settled, when the light was shown in the end of the tunnel, when the brothers were

given forgiveness by the father and the father and the mother were lifted with

respect, Yusuf (A) says this is the interpretation of the dream. And the pain

that was given wasn't just attributed to the brothers but this

was the Shaytan's influence on the brothers. But in here, he also says

"..." When everything settles, Allah (SWT) knows and Allah (SWT) is

all wise. Brothers and sisters, when we go through pain and as we are suffering

pain and the difficulties that come ahead, we ask Allah (SWT) to make it easy for us.

But there's a solution in our life, and that is to look in the Quran.

There were people who went through pain. Our Prophet (S) went through pain.

The Prophets of Allah (A) went through pain. The greatest humans went through pain. Maryam (A)

is accused. She goes through pain. So people go through pain, but pain

psychologically, emotionally tears you down. There are mental health

solutions. There is therapy but the Quran is the best therapy. It will give you,

it will revive your spirit, it will bring you back to course.

And when you read these stories, the greatest stories, you're reminded you're not the

only one suffering. And the Greatest suffered and your suffering compared

to them is very little. We ask Allah (SWT), the greatest, to make our suffering easy for us.

We ask Allah (SWT) to unite us with these great giants. And all

of those who are going through suffering in the world, to remove their suffering.

And make our path to Jannah easy because we are weak and we cannot bear the

challenges the Prophets (A) of the past bore that they took upon their shoulders.

We ask Allah (SWT) to make it easy for everyone that is suffering in

Syria and Burma and across the world. JazakumAllah Khayr. "..."
