i'm going to do a quick video today
mainly in response to a comment that was
left on one of my other videos somebody
posted a comment and they said the 4%
group it's a scam
some people joined and they didn't make
any money and i read that and i was like
what are you serious i mean there are so
many things i wanted to say in response
to that but let me just focus on a
couple of them in this short video i
just want to explain why I genuinely and
quite passionately argue against anybody
who simply says the 4% group is a scam
because firstly what is a scam a scam is
well it's an intention to defraud to be
dishonest and to kind of cheat people
out of money and the last thing the 4%
group does is any of those things let me
tell you why for a fact I know somebody
she had to cancel her membership for
various reasons and she got a full
refund so there's no scam there she got
all the money back I know somebody who
had to change their travel plans because
they couldn't attend that the conference
there was a conference coming up and the
dates changed and she was out of pocket
the 4% group honored all those members
who made arrangements that they would
not be out-of-pocket and reimburse
people if they make plans that they
couldn't rearrange couldn't cancel
they've made financial commitments
nobody was out of pocket because of the
changes they had to make what other
system have you ever come across on the
internet that would actually make a
pledge to its members that they will not
be out of pocket if they have to change
their plans
4% group did that so I you know there's
absolutely no intention to defraud people
because they're so open transparent and
honest if you want if you if you join
and decide it's not for you you can get
your money back if you were left out of
pocket because of the conference date
changes you were refunded you're
compensated so really there's there's no
intention to do fraud there at all now
also like the guy you left the comment
saying it's a scam because I know some
people didn't make any money what system
do you know that will guarantee that if you
join and become a member you will make
money none of them do everyone has to
have a disclaimer it's a legal
requirement anyway for any legitimate
reputable business we'll have a
disclaimer somewhere the small print
that says these earnings you know whilst
they're possible and realistic not
everybody achieves that why is that
because not everybody takes action and I
know for a fact people will join I've
probably done it myself in the past
people join pay the money look watch
listen but never actually take any
action they don't take the steps they
don't follow what's recommended and they
don't they don't take the training or
the guidance that's the number one
reason people don't make any money with
this or probably any other system is
because they sit on the sidelines you
want to soak up information they go into
learning mode and then do nothing and
you kind of left say oh well I joined
and I didn't make any money it must be a
scam that there's no guarantees you've
got to be responsible for your own
actions you have to take action and only
you can do that the four percent gives
you the framework training the systems
the tools the guidance the support the
mentorship but it's still down to you to
take the action and for somebody to say
it's a scam because they know other people
didn't make any money well that makes no
sense to me whatsoever and here's the
other thing and I said to this guy why
don't you just join as a free member and
see for yourself come inside come into
the group for free you don't you don't
make a credit card payment that's
deferred in any way free membership is
is entirely free you don't make a
payment so you can come into the group
you can test the water look at the
training get a feel join the Facebook
support group ask questions see the
results other people
having look at testimonials I mean it
it's it's kind of a no-brainer that if
you are thinking about it or you're
interested or you're comparing different
systems online and you want to know how
does the four percent compared to
choose another system that's out there
you know take your pick
join for free there aren't many that I
know of that have a genuine free level
of membership that lets you get inside
the members area and see pretty much
everything that's going on so that said
that that's that's kind of one of the
main things I would recommend anybody
does if they're interested in joining
and the other thing you know people say
it must be a scam you know well look
there's a big conference coming up
scammers don't hide in public where
everybody can come and poke them in the
chest and see face-to-face shake their
hand look them in the eye and also at this
conference there's a lot of Industry big
names these names are on the website for
the for the conference sign up and
there's a whole host of big names lining
themselves up too with the 4% group to
be part of it to be at the conference to
speak on stage to sell products maybe
through the 4% group in partnership with
the 4% group have exclusive
relationships with the 4% group give the
members access to products you can
promote as an affiliate for a commission
that kind of thing so there is you
know there is just so much going on
inside the group that for anybody to
just throw out it's a scam it doesn't
make any sense but you've got to make
your mind up and I read reviews from
both those who are members of the group
who love it and those who are opposed
to the group and say it's a scam and you
know you make a comparison then you
think well okay who's who's right who's
wrong
doesn't make any sense and there are
members who make bad reviews and say
it's child's play the money comes
flooding in anyone can do I disagree
with that and I've said that before in
other videos that it's not child's play
because you've got to get down into the
details and take action work hard be be
conscientious and commit show commitment
and spend a little bit of money to
invest in yourself because you're
building a business that's not child's
play so that's I don't agree with those
kind of comments but equally those who
just say it's a scam it doesn't make
sense but look I could talk all day
about this and try and convince you I'm
not here to try and convince you all I
would say is if you are interested

Why Did I March For Science? - Duration: 8:28.
I sometimes find myself falling into the
trap of being a hopeless optimist the
march for science last weekend was one
of those times a lot of buzz has been
made about the march for science last
weekend and a few of you guys have asked
me for my opinion on the matter as a
particularly outspoken scientist who
attended the march in San Francisco a
huge chunk of the coverage has been due
to the drama surrounding how the march
was going to handle diversity at first
the organizers claimed that colonization
racism immigration native rights sexism
ableism queer trans intersex phobia and
economic justice were scientific issues
and then they backtracked on that then
their mission statement focused too much
on social justice so they made a
separate statement on diversity and
inclusion afterwards people were
quitting the planning committees because
it was either not inclusive enough or
too focused on inclusivity then they
tweeted out this steaming pile of crap
and then they apologized for it you get
the idea when the day of the March finally
came I admit that I was skeptical but
the overwhelming majority of people that
I saw were more concerned about climate
change the EPA and Trump's future
scientific policies than anything else
and this was in San Francisco which is
arguably the social justice warrior
capital of the country of course there
were a few pictures floating around
online of people holding signs that were
more concerned with that angle but those
of you who have followed me for a while
know that I'm not afraid to stand
alongside people that I disagree with
for a cause that I really believe in and
in this case that's evidence-based
policy so let's talk about why the
intersection of science and politics has
been concerning me lately I live in
California and for the past 25 years our
electoral college votes have gone
entirely towards the Democratic
candidate and I didn't see that about to
change in 2016 even though I cared about
specific issues of like social or
science policy I didn't see the point in
like really fighting for one particular
candidate because ultimately why bother
when Hillary Clinton is going to win the
state anyways my vote doesn't really
matter in that sense then Trump won the
presidency and I was surprised but ready
to move forward and I wanted to believe
in all the people who told me that he
wasn't as bad as his public persona but
it was all just like an act for media
attention
but I guess that was a little bit of
hopeless optimism too I expected quite a
few things from the GOP when they took
power I expected them to ruin the
environment and they're trying I
expected some cuts to scientific
research and they're working on it I
expected them to repeal the Affordable
Care Act and of course they are what I
did not expect was the complete
elimination of decades worth of climate
change research I did not expect entire
databases fill the taxpayer-funded
environmental studies to be made
inaccessible for no good reason and
worse I did not expect so many people to
be ok with this in a field where we can
only make predictions for our future
based on the research of our past this
is going to set science back far beyond
the time the Trump spends in office
what's being eliminated now over
partisan politics is going to take
decades to rebuild and suddenly all of
this feels very real to me
when it comes to science issues my
elected officials generally do a pretty
good job of representing my interests
some of them even showed up to the march
for science themselves however the
behavior of our national administration
is very concerning to me and to be
honest I feel so frustrated I feel
frustrated because I know that there's
nothing that I can do to change this I
know that the politicians who are
pushing through these policies don't
care about what I think and why should they
I'm not their constituent I was never
their audience to begin with they don't
have to appeal to me but the sad thing
is that science shouldn't be a partisan
issue to begin with it shouldn't be
something that is so incredibly divisive
that we feel the need to throw it away
just because these numbers don't agree
with our ideology it feels like I'm in
this weird zone of apathy just like I
was during the presidential election
where I
really care about these problems but I
also know that nothing that I say or do
is going to make a difference in the
outcome I guess I was hoping that the
march for science would end up
furthering the discussion about science
and evidence-based policy in our country
but to be honest everyone who cared
about that was pretty much already there
and the people who wanted to ignore that
issue could do it really easily by just
pointing out the drama and the internal
politics and all the craziness so how
can we expect to really have a
discussion about this when everyone
present is already on the same side of
the coin who are we trying to convince
what minds are we changing why do I feel
like I have to choose between yelling
into an echo chamber or screaming into a
void why do I feel like politicians are
only going to listen to what I say if I
already agree with them or if I have
enough money to change their minds why
am i standing here listening to speaker
spoon-feed me the opinions that I
already share why am i walking down this
dirty street with thousands of other
people calling out to absent politicians
that are never going to listen anyways
and why did I ever feel like it would be
worth the effort or a day-long march
that leads up to nothing changing I mean
this shouldn't even be a political issue
to begin with you know that we're living
in a seriously weird timeline when
public access to taxpayer-funded
research is somehow controversial is for
some reason up for debate bureaucracy
and partisan bickering threatens the
future of science when we pull funding
from research just because we don't like
the results when we pull down data just
because we don't like what those numbers
tell us we create an inherent bias and
if we allow ourselves to chip away at
the scientific process like this if we
allow ourselves to sacrifice objectivity
for politics and ideology at what point
will science just become another vapid
and useless industry I see complaints
left and right about the death of
academia how broken American college
systems are how we're sacrificing real
research integrity for the sake of
ideology and rightfully so but we should
also care about this for the same
reasons
you may not personally care about
climate change but you should care about
your access to the data concerning
climate change because whether or not
you agree with the conclusions drawn
from these studies the ability to access
these numbers and use them to build and
support our arguments that benefits all
of us the liberals to the conservatives
the nazis to the commies from the
alt-right to the social justice warriors
everyone gets the same ammo a set of
unbiased numbers to debate over and to
draw conclusions from and to work with
and building policies that affect our
future we need that kind of foundation
now more than ever but if we poison the
very root of research of scientific
objectivity and integrity and honesty
we're all going to suffer for it I truly
and honestly hope that the march for
science can act as a springboard for
more effective activism I hope that
inspires and propels people to go out
there and volunteer and fundraise and
educate others and make garbage Internet
videos to semi-humorously inform people
of popular science issues but I'm not so
sure that it will and I'm not so sure
that it would matter anyways I didn't
expect this to get so dark but I just
sat down and started writing and I
couldn't stop so thank you for watching

Verbs, Nouns, and the Apollo Guidance Computer - Duration: 6:28.
A lot of you guys have asked about the
whole Verb/Noun the thing on the Apollo
guidance computer. Well, that's what we're
talking about today - in brief - on Vintage
Space. The comparison is often made that
a modern cell phone has more computing
power than the Apollo guidance computer.
Well, yes, that's true, but your iPhone
can't get you to the Moon; it doesn't
exactly have that software... And really,
the beauty of the Apollo guidance
computer is in how tightly packed and
specifically organized that software
really was. When we think of a computer
or even a smartphone we think of
interfaces that are familiar to us like
a screen and a word processor and a
keyboard... and even just a basic
calculator. Well the Apollo guidance
computer had none of those things. It was
designed to run a very small set of
specifically designed programs needed to
run a mission to the Moon, things like
checking the guidance platform alignment
and firing the engines. Everything on an
Apollo mission was done through the
computer and it took about 10,500
keystrokes to get one
mission to the Moon and back. But because
the guidance computer didn't have those
interfaces that we're used to like
keyboards and word processors and all
those things, the inputs had to be a
little bit different. This is the
interface of the Apollo guidance
computer, the display and keyboard
commonly referred to as the DSKY (diss-key). Now
you can see that it does have a screen,
it does have keys, but it's not a typical
screen like we're used to using on our
home computers. There aren't alphabetical
keys and the screen doesn't list
information in words.
In fact, this keyboard is anything but
common to us. So how exactly did the
astronauts use the DSKY? Well it
actually offered a very simplistic
interface for crews. Starting with the
warning lights. COMP ACTY lit up
when the computer was running a program.
UPLINK ACTY was lit when there was
data being received from the ground. TEMP
lit up when the temperature of the
platform was out of tolerance. NO ATT
lit up when the inertial subsystem could
not provide an attitude reference.
GIMBAL LOCK lit up when the middle gimbal
angle was greater than 70 degrees
signifying that the spacecraft was close
to hitting that deadly gimbal lock
scenario. STBY lit up when the computer
system was on standby. PROG lit up
when the computer was waiting for
additional information
to be entered by the crew to complete a
program. KEY REL lit up when the computer
needed control of the DSKY to
complete a program. RESTART was lit up
when the computer was in the restart
program.OPR ERR error was lit when the
computer detected an error on the
keyboard. And TRACKER lit up with one of
the obstacle coupling units failed.
The lunar module DSKY had three
additional warnings: one to signify a
problem with the autopilot and two more
to signify problems with the altitude
and velocity of the lunar module
spacecraft. In addition to these 10
warning keys we have other keys: Verb,
Noun, Plus, Minus, numbers, and handful of
command keys. So there's no obvious way
to write in a command like "run guidance
platform alignment program," so how
exactly did the astronauts actually
interface with the computer using the
DSKY? Well, this is where nouns and
verbs come in, but to understand this we
actually kind of need to leave the
spacecraft for a second and go down to
maybe the streets of New York City.
So imagine you're in New York City, you are
a tourist, and you don't really speak any
English; you've got about five words in
your arsenal, none of them include "excuse
me, but which way to a lovely restaurant
in this fine neighborhood of the city?"
So you find a policeman knowing that this
is the kind of person who might be able
to direct you towards what it is you're
looking for. So you go up to the
policeman and you use one of your words
to tell him what it is you want to do.
That word is "eat," and that is a verb. But
there's a lot of food in New York City
to choose from so you have to define
what it is you want to eat, and so you
use one of your other words, "pizza," which
is a noun. So do you see where we're
going with this? Just like your awkward,
broken English conversation with the New
York City policeman, all data going
through the Apollo guidance computer
used verbs and nouns. The verb is defined
as the action being taken and the noun
is defined as the data set being acted
on. There's actually a really simple
computer-based version of this that we
all use but don't really think about
because it's not expressed as a noun and
a verb: printing a document. If you select
print, that is the verb. The file name is
the noun, which is basically the data set
(or in this case document) that that verb
is acting on. So the astronauts inputted
all their data using nouns and verbs
into the Apollo guidance computer. There
were 100 sets of noun verb pairs all
defining a specific thing that the
Apollo guidance computer
would do on a mission. So let's look at
an example. Let's say you enter verb 37 --
that tells the computer
that you are about to make a change to
the program. Then you hit 3-1, and
that tells the computer to run noun 31,
which is a targeted rendezvous program.
And there are a host of others! The crew
could request maneuver angles with verb 50
noun 18, the crew could monitor
changes while a maneuver was in progress
with verb 06 noun 18, or even
request velocity change required for the
next maneuver using verb 06 noun 84.
Once the noun and verb pairing was
entered into the computer, the relevant
information was displayed on the DSKY.
And of course as you can expect when
doing something big like going to the
moon there were different kinds of
programs, so different kinds of nouns and
verbs. Regular verbs verbs 00 - 37
were used to display, monitor, or
update data meaning they needed a noun;
they needed something to be acting on.
Whereas extended verbs were verbs 49 - 99
and they didn't need
a noun to execute a program; they told
the computer to perform a simple
operation. Of course, there is so much
more to the Apollo guidance computer
than this super quick look at nouns and
verbs, and so I would urge you all to
check out Frank O'Brien's book "The
Apollo Guidance Computer," which, as I've
said before and I always remind Frank is
said with love and in jest, it is more
than you ever need to know about how the
Apollo guidance computer worked! So do

why headphones? well I was hired to do
the audio environment for a virtual
reality set and I'd love for you to hear
some samples of true surround sound and
for that you'll need headphones for
every song that I mix I do a lot of
tests to make sure that it sounds great
on all kinds of different systems from
an audio engineering standpoint virtual
reality means that for once I know what
playback is going to be used to hear my
audio and it's a headphone set enter
binaural audio a binaural recording is
the most immersive way to experience
surround sound. Meet my friend Mike! Get it? The
shape of the head here plays a big role
but most of all there's two microphones
inside of his ears so when the recording
is played back on headphones your brain
is able to decode and position the sounds
360 degrees around you. That's because the
microphones and the headphones are in
the same place so today we're all over
the city
recording binaural sounds! To create a
realistic background noise for the
virtual reality program I tracked a
bunch of different places.

The American Bar Association has recently proposed a new rule that would basically be
a nationwide speech code for lawyers.
It explicitly made clear that the speech code would apply not just operations in courtroom,
or in depositions, or in interactions with clients or opposing counsel, but also in professional
activities including Bar Association activities and social activities related to the practice
of law.
So, uh, if, um, a, a lawyer's group puts on a debate about same-sex marriage, or about,
uh, a discrimination based on gender identity, or about, uh, immigration from Muslim countries
or about illegal immigration, uh, and, uh, somebody expresses a view in the process that
the Bar might find to be derogatory, uh, that person, if he's a lawyer, could be subject
to Bar discipline, uh, for engaging in so-called harassment in busi-, in professional activities
or in social activities if people are just talking about this at dinner after a Bar Association
event or talking about this at a, at a dinner at a law firm event or something like that.
The Bar Association is not Congress.
It's not a court.
It can't mandate this rule.
But, it's often quite influential in its proposal, so-called Model Rules of Professional Conduct.
A lot of state bars or state supreme courts just adopt it on the theory that the Bar Association
knows what rules are sensible for members of the Bar.
The American Bar Association is trying to restrict the speech of America's lawyers,
and it's trying to get, uh, state bars and state supreme courts to essentially ban certain
kinds of speech on pain of possibly losing one's Bar license or at the very least, uh,
being, uh, publicly reprimanded or even suspended, something that no lawyer wants to have happen.
Then we have a powerful, powerful chilling effect on lawyer's willingness, uh, to talk
about controversial issues.
And, whether or not you agree with the viewpoints that the Bar Association's rule would end
up suppressing, it's very bad for any profession, but especially for lawyers, uh, to be put
in a position where they're essentially, uh, in danger if they express those opinions in
danger o-of, of losing their ability to make a living.
