Chung Yoo-ra, the daughter of ousted President Park Geun-hye's close confidante, is on a
plane back to Korea.
She's scheduled to arrive at Incheon International Airport around 3PM, Korea time.
Chung had been hiding in Denmark in a bid to avoid the fallout from the corruption scandal
involving her mother and the former president.
Kim Hyo-sun reports.
The daughter of Choi Soon-sil, the woman at the center of the massive political scandal
that led to the nation's first-ever presidential impeachment,... will be arriving in Korea
on Wednesday afternoon.
Chung Yoo-ra,... who has been hiding in Denmark,... avoiding months of summons by Korean prosecutors,...
has been repatriated for investigation after being arrested by Danish authorities in January.
Chung is returning with a five-member team of Korean prosecutors and inspectors who left
for Denmark on Monday for her repatriation.
The prosecution plans to arrest Chung and investigate her as soon as she arrives at
Incheon International Airport,... where she will be directly sent to the Seoul Central
District Prosecutors' Office.
Prosecutors in charge of investigating Samsung's bribery charges will be investigating Chung,...
as she's the alleged beneficiary of millions of dollars her mother received from the conglomerate.
She faces charges of bribery, money laundering and unjust admission to Ewha Woman's University.
It remains to be seen how Chung's investigation will affect the on-going trials on former
President Park Geun-hye, Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong and her mother,
Choi Soon-sil.

Rosy prospects cast for Korean memory chip giants - Duration: 2:31.
Semiconductor chips are at the heart of modern technology,.. they power our laptops, smartphones
and other gadgets.
Korea is a world-leading producer of memory chips,... and, in recent months, local companies
have seen sales go through the roof.
Oh Soo-young has more.
The outlook is bright for Korean chipmakers this year.
Industry observers say it's a period of high demand-- a so-called "supercycle" for memory
semiconductors-- and Korean businesses are leading the global market.
Samsung Electronics produces almost half the world's DRAM chips, which are a key component
of computers, smartphones and other digital devices.
SK Hynix comes second, taking up a quarter of the global market share.
Another important part of the memory chip sector is NAND flash,... a more permanent
form of storage found in smartphones, tablet PCs, and the average flash drive.
Samsung and SK Hynix account for about half the NAND flash market.
Analysts say the two companies have bumped up their investment in memory chips this year--
with a combined 14 billion U.S. dollars spent on facilities alone-- that's almost 30 percent
more than in 2016.
Samsung, for one,... is opening up the world's largest chip factory in Pyeongtaek this year
to produce its latest 3D vertical NAND chips.
With its eyes on expansion, the Korean tech giant is expected to overtake Intel this year,...
as the world's number one supplier for the entire semiconductor industry.
"The global appetite for Intel's PC processing chips is dwindling while Samsung's SSDs are
seeing increasing demand.
Samsung is expected to see its operating profit for semiconductors jump to around 27 billion
dollars, from 11.5 billion last year.
SK Hynix is also likely to see its profits quadruple to more than 10 billion dollars."
However, with the memory chip market only accounting for around a third of the semiconductor
market,... experts say there's room for more growth.
Samsung and SK Hynix are scaling up technologies in non-memory, or systems semiconductors,...
like processing chips for PCs, handsets, displays and sensors for cameras.
Korean firms are also enhancing their foundry businesses, which provide services for non-memory
chip developers without 'fabs', or their own production facilities.
But more than anything,... experts believe Korean companies must come up with new, paradigm-shifting
chips that will bring about a "creative destruction" of the current technology within the next
five years.

Former. WH Speechwriter: FBI Probe Means 'Misery' For Jared Kushner | The 11th Hour | MSNBC - Duration: 5:38.
>>> WELCOME BACK TO TO YOUR BROADCAST, AN OPINION PIECE IN
THE GUARDIAN SAYS, QUOTE, JARED KUSHNER'S CHARMED LIFE IS ABOUT
TO COME TO A SCREECHING HALT. THAT'S JUST THE HEADLINE.
IN THE BODY OF THE PIECE IT GOES ON TO SAY, IN ALL HIS FANTASIES
ABOUT CONQUERING WASHINGTON AT DONALD TRUMP'S SIDE, KUSHNER
NEVER UNDOUBTEDLY IMAGINED BEING ENSNARED IN AN FBI
INVESTIGATION. HIS LIFE IN THE COMING MONTHS
AND MAYBE YEARS WILL BE A STUDY IN MISERY.SERY.
HE WILL PROBABLY SPEND MORE TIME WITH HIS PERSONAL LAWYER THAN
WITH IVANKA OR HIS CHILDREN. THE AUTHOR, WALTER SHAP EAR
AUDIO IS WITH US HERE IN THE STUDIO.
HE IS A LONG TIME JOURNALIST. WORKED FOR YEARS AT U.S.A.
TODAY, THESE YEARS A COLUMNIST FOR WITH CALL.
SO, TELL US ABOUT THIS. WHY ARE YOU CONVINCED HIS LIFE
WILL COME TO A SCREECHING HALT? AND WHAT ABOUT HIS LIFE HAS
REACHED OUT TO YOU? >> WHAT ABOUT -- FIRST OF ALL,
WHAT I'M REALLY EXTRAPOLAING FROM IS THE EXPERIENCE THAT
PEOPLE HAD IN THE CARTER -- THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION DURING
WHITEWATER AND TO COME EXTENT THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION DURING
THE VALLERIE PLANE INVESTIGATION.
THAT EVEN JUST BEING ENSNARED IN AN FBI INVESTIGATION, BAG PERSON
OF INTEREST, BEING ASKED TO ASSIST THE AUTHORITIES IN THEIR
INQUIRIES MEANS THAT YOU ARE CONSTANTLY WORRIED THAT A FALSE
STATEMENT TO THE FBI IS A FELONY, A STATEMENT BEFORE THE
CONGRESS AND JARED KUSHNER HAS VOLUNTEERED TO TESTIFY UNDER
OATH COULD BE A FELONY. AND EVEN IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE
ANYTHING HITTER TO THAT'S ILLEGAL, IN THE WHOLE PROCESS,
YOU RUN THE RISK OF LEGAL JEOPARDY.
AND THAT MEANS BEFORE YOU GO TO THE HILL JERAD KUSHNER WILL
PROBABLY SPEND WEEKS GOING OVER HIS TESTIMONY WITH HIS LAWYERS.
AND THIS IS A MAN WHO IS SUPPOSED TO BE BRINGING PEACE TO
THE MIDDLE EAST. >> BRINGING PEACE TO THE MIDDLE
EAST. >> AND VETERANS AFFAIRS
ANDOPEINATE ADDICTION AND A SPECIAL RAPID RESPONSE FOR
AMERICAN BUSINESS. PRESIDENT HAD A CHOICE AND CHOSE
THIS COVETED JOB AT AN OFFICE VERY CLOSE TO THE OVAL OFFICE
FOR HIS SON-IN-LAW, A 36 YEAR OLD GUY.
HOW WILL THAT DECISION POSSIBLY SPLASH BACK ON TO THE PRESIDENT?
>> IF JARED KUSHNER IS TOTALLY PREOCCUPIED WITH THE INQUIRIES,
AS HE HAS HINTED PERIODICITY HE AND IVANKA MIGHT JUST GO BACK TO
NEW YORK THAT SUDDENLY DONALD TRUMP WHO ALREADY IS PROBABLY
THE LONELIEST OF PRESIDENTS SINCE ABRAHAM LINCOLN WILL START
LOOKING AROUND AT THE MEETINGS AND ALL HE WILL SEE ARE EITHER
STRANGERS OR PEOPLE WHOSE LOYALTY HE DOESN'T FULLY TRUST.
EVERY PRESIDENT GOES THROUGH THAT MOMENT.
IT IS GENERALLY LINKED IN THE SECOND TERM WHEN THE PRESIDENT
LOOKS AROUND THE STAFF TABLE AND SAYS WHO ARE THESE GUYS?
FOR DONALD TRUMP IT COULD COME IN THE FIRST SUMMER OF HIS
PRESIDENCY. >> YOU HAVE COVERED WHAT TEN
PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS? >> AND WALTER ISAKSON WAS MY
EDITOR. >> HOW UNPRECEDENTED IS THIS?
>> THERE ARE NO WAYS TO POSSIBLY COMPARE THIS TO ANYTHING.
I KEEP COMING BACK TO DOROTHY PARKER'S DESCRIPTION OF WARREN
HARDING, ANOTHER SCANDAL PRONE PRESIDENT WHO SAID ULTIMATELY HE
IS JUST A SLOB. AND THERE IS A QUALITY OF JUST
TO THIS ENTIRE ADMINISTRATION FROM DONALD TRUMP DOWN.
BUT THE DIFFERENCE IS IN THE 1920s AMERICA WAS NOT A NUCLEAR
POWER. THE PRESIDENT DOESN'T HAVE TO
WORRY ABOUT WHAT IS HAPPENING ON THE KOREAN PENINSULA.
WE ARE IN A SITUATION WHERE THERE IS UNPRECEDENTED POWER
RESTING WITH THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES AND FROM DAY
TO DAY WE HAVE NO IDEA IF ANYONE IN THE WHITE HOUSE IS EITHER --
>> THAT WAS THE POINT OF SENIOR STATE DEPARTMENT OFFICIAL.
COMING OFF THE EUROPEAN TRIP IT IS CLEAR TO HER THAT EVERYONE
ELSE IS PLAYING CHESS. THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT IS
PLAYING CHECKERS. YOU HAVE BEEN AROUND ENOUGH TO
KNOW THAT SOONER OR LATER THE PRESIDENCY IS GOING TO RAISE ITS
UGLY HEAD, SOMETHING BAD IS GOING TO HAPPEN SOMEWHERE.
>> OR WE ARE GOING TO HAVE ALL OF THESE RUMORED SHAKE UPS
ACTUALLY HAPPENING. THE WHITE HOUSE COMMUNICATIONS
DIRECTOR LEFT TODAY AND BY ALL ACCOUNTS IT IS NOT THE MOST
COVETED JOB IN WASHINGTON TO REPLACE HIM.
WHAT WE ARE GOING TO HAVE IS AN UNDER STAFFED ADMINISTRATION AT
THE BEST OF TIMES EVEN IN MORE DISARRAY.
>> I WILL GIVE YOU 15 SECONDS FOR THE CLOSING SENTENCE.
DO YOU SEE A SILVER LINING? >> YES.
I THINK THE SYSTEM IS WORKING. I THINK DONALD TRUMP EVERY TIME
HE COMES OUT OF CONSTITUTIONAL NORMS HAS BEEN CONSTRAINED BY

U.S. successfully intercepts simulated ICBM for the first time in missile shield test - Duration: 1:53.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un might want to take note of our next story.
The U.S. military says it has successfully shot down a mock ICBM for the first time,
in the latest test of its missile defense shield.
It's considered to be a major milestone for one of the few, if not only, system designed
to reliably protect the United States from a long-range missile attack.
Yu Joonhee reports.
An anti-missile interceptor raced to the sky towards its target, after being fired from
an underground silo in Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, Tuesday afternoon local
time.
Over the Pacific Ocean, the missile intercepted and destroyed a target vehicle designed to
mimic the characteristics of an intercontinental ballistic missile.
This marks the first time the "Ground-based Midcourse Defense" System, as it is called,
has shot down a simulated ICBM.
The system, which has cost more than 40 billion dollars in U.S. taxpayer funds so far, had
not undergone a live-fire test in nearly three years prior to Tuesday.
The missile defense shield also has a spotty record, achieving only ten successful intercepts
in 18 tries, after accounting for the latest test.
However, the program has taken on renewed significance in recent months, in the midst
of North Korea's rapidly evolving nuclear and ballistic missile threats.
Pyongyang has already conducted nine missile tests so far in 2017, including three since
President Moon Jae-in came into office in mid-May.
The North has made no secret of its intent, to develop a nuclear-tipped ICBM capable of
reaching the U.S. mainland.
The Pentagon however, in the aftermath of Tuesday's successful intercept, says the U.S.
now has a credible and capable means of defending itself from North Korea's missile threat.
The U.S. military current has 36 ground-based interceptors based in California and Alaska,
but plans to deploy an additional eight for a total of 44, by the end of this year.

Biz sentiment for next month remained static from May: BOK - Duration: 1:41.
New data show business sentiment for June is looking tepid,... due to a number of factors.
But state-run agencies say their outlook is still bright, and that the slight declines
are just temporary.
Kim Ji-yeon reports Business sentiment among Korean companies
for next month remained static for the most part, but edged up slightly for some.
They expect a decline in domestic demand, along with increased competition and economic
uncertainties.
Data released by the Bank of Korea on Wednesday show the business survey index for manufacturing
firms stood unchanged for June at 84.
For non-manufacturing companies it was at 80... up two points from this month.
A reading below 100 means pessimists outnumber optimists.
Business sentiment among manufacturers had been rising for four months in a row starting
in January... thanks to strong exports.
But in May it fell by one point to 82,... marking the first decline in nine months.
Despite the discouraging data for May and June, the Bank of Korea says it remains optimistic
that the economy is on track for a recovery The BOK sees the drop as temporary,... chalking
it up to fewer working days in May due to holidays early in the month.
Statistics Korea, meanwhile, has data reinforcing the weak sentiment readings.
Its data, also released Wednesday, shows industrial output in April dropped one-percent from the
previous month,... the steepest decline in over a year.
Production was sluggish in the sectors that had recently been leading output, including
the semiconductor and automobile businesses.

U.S., China in discussions over when to push for more N. Korea sanctions - Duration: 0:52.
The United States is in negotiations with China over when to push for new UN Security
Council sanctions on North Korea... and a decision could be reached as soon as this
week.
That's according to Nikki Haley, the U.S. ambassador to the UN, who on Tuesday commented
that currently "nothing is changing North Korea's actions" and that discussions are
centered around at what point more sanctions should be imposed.
However, Reuters quotes UN diplomatic sources saying that China will only agree to further
sanctions in the event Pyongyang carries out a long-range missile launch or nuclear test.
Haley praised Beijing for being productive, saying the U.S. believes China has been using
"back channels" to communicate with Pyongyang to try and stop them from conducting a sixth
nuclear test.
