GAVE A FINAL NOTICE
MAY 9.
ARE YOU GOING TO GET ON THE
PHONE, HAVE SOMEONE FROM CITY OF
INCOME DOWN HERE?
MELINDA: STOCKTON CITY MANAGER
AND FIRE CHIEF FOR ANSWERING
QUESTIONS AND ADDRESSING
CONCERNS OF THESE PEOPLE WHO ARE
SITTING THERE ASHES AND RUBBLE
AFTER A FILE -- FIRE TORE
THROUGH THEIR HOMES.
>> CLEAN THE STREETS OF THESE
PEOPLE CAN STOP READING THE
BLACK DUST.
MELINDA: THE CITY MANAGER CAME
OUT TO FIND WHAT PEOPLE HERE IN
THE MOST AND ADJUST THE
COMPLAINTS.
>> WE UNDERSTAND THE
FRUSTRATION.
WE HAVE GONE THROUGH THIS.
WE WANT TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE A
FULL UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT
HAPPENED.
WE HAVE A PRETTY GOOD
UNDERSTANDING RIGHT NOW, WHICH
DOES INVOL ACTION TAKING
PLACE.
MELINDA: THIS FIRE VICTIM SAID
SHE HAS BEEN MORNING THE CITY
FOR THREE YEARS THING SHE HAS
LOST COUNT OF HOW MANY TIMES SHE
HAS HAD TO CALL TO COMPLAIN.
>> OUR BIGGEST CONCERN HAS BEEN
THE PALLETS DEKING UP HIGH IN
THE FIRE HAZARD.
MELINDA: A CITY SPOKESPERSON
SAYS A PALLET YARD HAS BEEN
FINED TWO TIMES BY THE FIRE
DEPARTMENT IN MARCH AND APRIL
BECAUSE OF THE PALLETS THE BACK
TOO HIGH.
>> QUOTA ENFORCEMENT ADDRESSES
OTHER ISSUES THAT ARE EITHER
ISSUES WITH THE PUBLIC DRIVEWAY
THAT WERE CREATED BY THE
BUSINESS.
THEY HAD BEEN RECENTLY CITED
WITH A NOTICE OF VIOLATION,
WHICH IS THE FORMAL NOTICE TO
SAY, CLEAN THIS UP.
MELINDA: AFTER A COLD
ENFORCEMENT WARNING ON MAY 9,
THE OWNER HAD TWO WEEKS TO MAKE
CHANGES BUT DID NOT.
THE FIRE BROKE OUT TWO DAYS
LATER.
THEY HAVE BEEN THROUGH THIS
PROCESS.
THEY HAVE COME TO THE PROCESS
BUT, THAT DOES NOT MATTER TO A
PERSON WHO IS EXPERIENCED A
TRAGEDY.
MELINDA: IF OUR VICTIM'S HOME
HAS BEEN BROKEN INTO.
