New Prophy Handpiece for Hygienists Wins MTI Dental Best in Show Award - Duration: 3:40.

- Hi, this is Travis Rodgers with the RecordLinc Network.

I'm here with Pete Miranda,

General Manager and Vice President of MTI.

Thanks for joining us, Pete.

- It's my pleasure to be here with you, Travis.

- Well, congratulations on winning Best in Show

for your prophy handpiece.

Can you tell us a little bit about it?

- So, the prophy handpiece is designed for hygienists

who hold a handpiece all day.

What it is, it's a ergonomically correct handpiece.

So the weight of the handpiece fits nicely

in the strongest part of your hand,

to keep it very light at the top end

where your fingers do all the work.

Not only is it ergonomic,

but also we have a quick

disconnect feature on our handpiece.

Let me show you what it looks like

when you use a competitor's handpiece.

A lot of times, they have a detachable nose cone.

So you would take that nose cone,

and you would put it on your prophy polishing handpiece,

and then you would put the prophy angle on top.

So you would do that,

and then this top part would swivel

which is very beneficial to the hygienist

to be able to reach the hard-to-reach areas

in the back of the mouth.

What they do next is where the problem comes in.

So after they prophy their patients,

a lot of times what happens is,

instead of removing the whole handpiece from the unit,

they just remove the nose cone part,

and they'll autoclave that, right?

Now, what happens is if you're working on a patient

that has some kind of infectious bacteria,

that infectious bacteria goes out from the mouth

and then back through the motor,

and the CDC recently released guidelines

that state you should autoclave your entire handpiece

in between each use,

so that way this infectious bacteria can die.

So they just put the nose cone in the autoclave,

and then they get the new one.

They put it on here, but that infectious bacteria remains,

and then when they go to prophy polish the next patient,

that gets spread to the next patient.

So MTI designed the Prophy AirLite,

and that has a coupling unit

that goes onto the air-drive as such,

and then you just pull back the collar,

put the prophy handpiece on it.

It still maintains its swiveling capability

from the back end, making it nice and easy

for the hygienist to have accessibility

to the harder-to-reach areas in the mouth,

and then when you're done prophying,

you can remove the entire handpiece,

autoclave it, including the motor and everything

and the internals, grab another one,

put it right back on there, and now you're back in action.

- Yeah, looks like it's a lot easier to take yours off

than this other one, which you struggled to take off.

All right, so you got the ergonomic aspects of it.

Golf star Tiger Woods has been arrested for driving under the influence.

Police say he was detained in Florida's Jupiter at about 7:30 Monday morning, local time,

and released a few hours later after giving a written promise to attend future court hearings.

In a statement on Monday night, the 41-year-old said that alcohol was not involved, blaming

an unexpected reaction to prescribed medication.

But, he said he understood the severity of what he did and takes full responsibility.

The 14-time major champion has not played since withdrawing from the Omega Dubai Desert

Classic in February and on-going back problems have dogged his career for the past few seasons.

Last Wednesday he blogged that his surgery had relieved terrible pain and that he hadn't

felt this good in years.

Macron criticizes Russian media for "attempted meddling" in French election - Duration: 1:07.

French President Emmanuel Macron had a somewhat awkward first meeting with his Russian counterpart

Vladimir Putin on Monday.

During a joint press briefing after their summit in Paris, Macron criticized Russian

media for spreading misinformation to go against him during the election.

He described RT and Sputnik as organs of influence and he had banned the two outlets from his

campaign headquarters after suspicions of Kremlin interference, including a massive

cyberattack just before his election victory.

Putin, who was standing beside Macron, said the matter was not discussed during their

talks, but still denied the allegations.

Meanwhile, Macron said he wants to cooperate with Moscow over the conflict in Syria and

the eradication of terrorist groups, especially IS, adding that he hoped for a democratic

transition that would preserve the Syrian state.

However, he warned that Paris will respond immediately to any use of chemical weapons

after suspicions that the Assad regime - Moscow's ally - used toxic sarin gas against its people.
