Hello, myself Sneha Deepak Sawant.
I teach in the primary section of Matoshri Vidyamandir.
Today's chapter is about listening to a story and develop the skill of using prediction
In this, I use the method of prediction with the students
Here, students listen to a story and answer questions using prediction in a meaningful context
Can you see something new in the classroom today?
- Yes.
What do you see? - Nests
Four of you come ahead.
Touch and see it, what is it?
What is it made of?
Now whose nest is this? - Sparrow's
How is the Sparrow's nest? Raise your hand. Yes Anvi.
- Round What is there in it?
- Eggs and sparrow's young ones.
Why do birds build their nests? Are you aware?
- To keep the young ones of the sparrow.
Do birds live in those nests?
- No, only the young ones of sparrows live there.
Listen! birds, they do not live in their nest. They live on the trees.
The nest is used just to lay eggs and hatch them And for the young ones to grow old.
See, this nest is neither of a crow nor of a sparrow.
This nest belongs to a weaver bird.
What is the colour of this weaver bird? - Yellow
So it seems like yellow but this is not dark yellow. This is yellowish in colour.
Which colour is this? - Yellowish.
Now listen to the story of the weaver bird.
Once, there was a weaver bird. He was jumping from one branch of the tree to another
He wasn't able to figure out a place to build his nest.
Now he made half the nest and realized that he has not shown his nest to his female partner yet
It should be shown, right? - Yes
How is your father? When he brings a new thing, whom does he show it to?
- To mother, to brother and to sister.
And what does he do if they don't like that thing?
- He exchanges it for another piece.
Based on the information given in the story, I develop prediction based questions for students.
These questions help the students to predict and come up with possible reasons for the same situation.
He ran fast towards the edge of the river.
He brought some wet mud from there and applied it inside the nest in its middle part.
Why did he apply it there?
- As our homes have a floor, he too is making a floor for his nest
Yes, you are right. He has searched for a place on the edge of the branch to tie his nest.
So Yash, tell me why has he searched for a place on the edge?
- He was unable to find a place to build his nest.
He was unable to find a place to build his nest. But the tree is very big.
- There were 150 branches but still he found that place.
He searched this edge of the branch because
there are many crawling creatures on the tree.
Priyanka, who are these crawling creatures? - Snake.
Creatures like snake cannot reach till here and so he built the nest on the edge of the branch.
When we teach students to predict using questions, we help them to comprehend the content.
And assess their comprehension of the content.
We guide them if they don't understand some part.
This way the content that the students listen to and read is better remembered and they remain interested.
Now who will give me information about this nest?
- The weaver bird used sticks to build his nest. The female weaver bird put her hand inside the nest.
No, she went inside
- She went inside. The female weaver bird said, "I do not like this nest".
