It's something that I've used for a while now. It's
$100 which
May sound like a lot. It's really not. It's a great small and affordable audio recorder that you can use in many different situations
Including with the lav mic like I'm doing now. It has stereo XY microphone configuration.
So they can capture that stereo sound for you. It is very lightweight. It's not made out of metal its plastic. It doesn't feel
You know nice like the Sony rx100. You know and heavy, but that's okay. I don't need this to be heavy at $100
I don't mind. It has the ability to record in both WAV and mp3 format as well.
It as a audio input here on the side as well as a audio output so that you can hook up
headphones and listen to what the sound sounds like and make sure your audio levels are adjusted properly
as you record. If you don't have any headphones to plug into the output, the zoom h1
does have a small speaker at the bottom so that you can actually hold it to your ear and listen to what you have recorded
prior to moving on.
It does have a low-cut filter
switch on the back. This helps you eliminate low frequencies like AC noise or traffic outside.
Any of those low frequencies that might disrupt your audio recording. It does come with a mini USB port
that's 2.0 as well. It also has a micro SD card slot and
utilizes a single double-a battery. So if you run out of batteries in the field
it's very easy to find one. It doesn't take any kind of specialized battery. Now sold separately is an accessory kit
I believe it's about $25 dollars on Amazon. I did purchase that with it as well and
the accessories that I really liked come with it
one it has a nice little foam top so that you can stick that on top here and
now if you're doing an interview
Or if you just want to hold here up to your mouth as you talk, it can be used as a handheld microphone.
The other thing that's nice is because it has that quarter-inch thread on the bottom
you can screw in a small tripod like what comes in the accessory and sit it on your table, and now you have a desktop
microphone that you can record voiceovers and things like that. You can also use a quarter-inch thread to attach to a
boom mic pole or something like that and actually hang have it hanging over your subject. Just pointing directly at them.
You can also use this to record ambient sounds sometimes there are sounds that I don't have in my audio library
So when I was putting this together in post editing I kind of forgot the context of why sound design so
important and just started talking about the features of the H1
zoom microphone.
Sound design
added into any travel video can really step it up and take your videos to the next level. So what I want to do is
I want to play a short segment of a film that I put together previously when I went hiking and
I'm gonna play it first without sound design
second with sound design to let you tell the difference and you'll see that it really does help
pull the video to life and draw the viewer into the video itself and will definitely step up your travel video

So overall, I think this is a great audio
recorder. It's cheap. It's very versatile, and it's light.
And sure there are better ones out there on the market, but you're also gonna pay a lot more. For someone like me
that's starting their channel or wants to up their audio just a little bit more right now until I can afford better equipment
This is a great entry-level
platform that can get you used to audio recording and things like that. So I definitely highly recommend it.
