CTE confirmed for first time in living former NFL player

Medical researchers announced an important finding that could help solve the link between CTE and NFL players.

Evanstons NorthShore University HealthSystem neurosurgeon Dr. Julian Bailes confirmed in the scientific journal Neurosurgery that researchers have the ability to identify chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in living patients.

Four years ago, researchers discovered scans indicated the presence of tau, a protein that builds up over damaged neurological cells, in the brains of living former NFL players. A post-mortem examination confirmed one of the former living players examined was suffering from CTE.

former Vikings linebacker Fred McNeill as the former player who living with CTE. McNeills name originally was not mentioned in the Neurosurgery article, but it did state he was a defensive end in college and a linebacker in the NFL.

McNeill had his brain scanned when he was 59 after showing signs of behavioral and mood changes. He died in 2015 at age 63.

CTE is a degenerative neurological disease commonly found in people who have suffered repeated blows to the head, including football players and boxers.

The links between football and CTE have been extensively debated and studied in recent years but a diagnosis was believed to only occur post-mortem.

"Our impression has been (CTE) is a very unique pattern" in the scans, said Bailes, who has been conducting research with scientists at UCLA to do scans of the brains of former football players and military personnel. "This is the first to have that brain specimen correlation.

"… It was very nice to get that scientific confirmation of that scientific truth," Bailes told USA Today Sports on Wednesday.

BEST PUMPKIN PIE FOR THANKSGIVING! | Little Wanders: Corbin & Kelsey - Duration: 4:50.

-Hey you guys! You're watching Little Wanders on BabyLeague and today we are

doing a sort of creative switch on how to make a pumpkin pie.

So I saw this on Pinterest and I was like, "We have got to try it!" And we thought it was gonna be

super, super fun to share with you all. And it's basically a pumpkin pie,

but then we added a turkey on top. -It looks so cool. So here is our family's pumpkin pie recipe.

Granulated sugar, pumpkin pie spices; which are ground cinnamon,

ground ginger, and ground cloves; salt, 2 large eggs, 1 can of pumpkin,

1 can of evaporated milk, 2 either homemade or store-bought pie crust. You just need to

make sure that it's not a pie shell. -First we're gonna make the pumpkin pie.

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. To make the pumpkin pie you're gonna mix the

sugar, cinnamon, salt, ginger, and cloves in a small bowl. Then in a large bowl you're

gonna beat the eggs, and then stir in the pumpkin and sugar spice mixture.

Then you're going to slowly stir in the evaporated milk. Now pour the mixture

into either your homemade or store-bought pie crust. Now you're gonna

bake the pie in the preheated oven for 15 minutes and then reduce the

temperature to 350 degrees and bake for about 30 minutes. Now the fun part begins.

While the pie is baking we're gonna make the special turkey design for the pie.

So here's the tools you need to get started. Scissors, a paring knife, a pen,

a piece of cardboard (we use some from a cereal box), a small bowl and a little bit

of water. First use the small bowl to trace and cut out the turkeys body.

Next you're gonna cut the turkey's neck and head using the shape sort of like this.

Then you're gonna cut out a small triangle for the beak and a thin strip

for the wattle. Now put a little water on the beak and place it on the head.

The water acts like glue to keep it in place. Then do the same thing with the wattle.

Placing it over the beak. Next we'll move on to the feathers.

First cut out your design from the cardboard. You're gonna want probably two different

sized feathers. Now cut out the stencil and then use your paring knife to begin

to cut out the feathers from the remaining dough. Then on each feather

gently make the feather design, but be sure you don't poke all the way through

the dough. Now you're gonna use water as glue again and lay the turkey's head on

the turkey's body. Once the pie is mostly baked, pull it out of the oven and

carefully lay the turkey body and the turkey head on top and then place the

feathers how you would like for your design. Stick the pie back in the oven and

bake until the filling is completely set and the turkey design is slightly brown.

Okay June. Judge Juny it's time for you to try your food. You're gonna be trying pumpkin

puree for the pumpkin pie.

Yum, bug! I think that was a yes. You like pumpkin? Yummy! Okay pretty soon

you're gonna be eating real pumpkin pie.

-So this is the perfect pie to take to a family dinner or a Thanksgiving dinner.

It just looks so cool and the pumpkin pie is so easy.

-I think it turned out pretty well. -It came out so good. -The edges got a little bit

dark, which is why I did that 10 foil tent, but overall I think we pretty much did it.

-It looks amazing. I didn't think it was gonna come out this good. And it

looks like a turkey on the pumpkin pie. It's so cool. -And it was totally easy so

you all should definitely try it out and leave it in the comments below of how it

worked out for you. -Yeah and then like, you could look like an amazing chef and it

was seriously so easy. -Show up to Thanksgiving with this and you're gonna be getting some points.
