Waiting for God SUCKS!!! Why God makes us wait so long - Duration: 8:41.

So here's a question that I've been wrestling through this week and it goes like this.

Why did God wait so long to send Jesus?

Why allow so much time between the fall and the cross?

And as we think about these things, is there anything that you can I can learn about waiting

for God along the way?

Now I don't know If you've ever had that experience where you're stuck waiting for

something you really want and time around just seems to slow down.

For me it happens when I'm trapped by a red light at an empty intersection or when

I'm at a restaurant stuck waiting for my food as my stomach is aching.

In moments like this, waiting can really really suck.

For me, I think back to the few months that took place between me proposing to Emily and

when we finally got married.

Objectively it wasn't that long of a wait since we ended up getting married exactly

365 days after our first date, but to me time seemed to crawl to a slow and here's why.

There was this time frame of a few months where we were engaged and we were doing the

whole long distance thing.

I had just taken a job teaching at a Bible College in Philadelphia and she was on the

other side of the country finishing up her Masters in Occupational therapy.

Those of you guys who have experience in this area know how sucky it is trying to manage

different schedules and time zones and still have something that resembles a normal relationship.

And so when I look at the story of Adam and Eve, this is what jumps to mind.

Every day they're communing face to face with God in the garden and then they screw

things up.

They eat the fruit, blame each other and are kicked out of the garden.

It's at this point God gives them a promise.

It's the promise of a deliverer- that one of their descendants would be born and eventually

pave the path for reconciliation and allow them to be reunited with their home and more

importantly the God that they love.

Galatians 4:4 says "But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject

to the law."

And when I read that passage I'm like how does this make sense?

What about that time specifically makes it "the right time."

I mean imagine how disappointed Adam & Eve must have felt?

They're promised the deliverer and then they have two sons and they think this is

the answer to their problems.

And then what...

Yeah...

Cain kills Abel and they're hopes are dashed.

So here's my question.

Why did God wait so long to send Jesus?

Some scholars estimate the Biblical account to be 4,000 years between Adam and Jesus.

If you take other approaches, the time is even LONGER.

What about this particular time frame makes it such an ideal time for Jesus to come and

could there be a lesson for us today about waiting for God's timing?

As always, I have a few theories that I'd like to kick around, but before I do that...

let me know what you think in the comment section below.

So what are some reasons that God waited until then?

Let me give you my answer is 3 parts.

Part 1- God needed to wait for sin to be fully revealed as evil and wicked as it truly was.

If you refer back to my video here that I did on why God didn't just kill the Devil,

you'll remember that one of the arguments that I make is that had God killed the Devil

and removed sin right away that the universe may still only be able to serve God out of

fear.

So think about how this works out.

Genesis 6 talks about life before the flood.

""The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything

they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil."

At this time sin is being revealed as this horrible and destructive thing.

Fast forward a bit in the story and you see this awareness of the evil of sin growing.

We get to see the wickeness of nations that are left to their own devices and what the

fruit of a society without God looks like.

One example is with the pagan deity, Moloch or the God of the Canaanites.

Leviticus describes how the followers of Molech participated in child sacrifices where parents

willingly brought their newborn babies to a giant statue of Moloch.

This statue would have his hands outstretched over an open flame and the parents would place

their newborn babies onto the burning hands to cook their children alive.

Yeah... some really gross and terrible stuff.

But an essential part in revealing the true nature of Sin.

Part 2.

Prophecy needed to be fulfilled.

I won't be able to get into all of the nitty gritty on this one, but here's the cliff

notes version of it all.

God gave several prophecies- some scholars estimate there to be hundreds of prophecies-

that needed to be fulfilled by the coming Messiah.

This was done intentionally so that the people who were looking for this deliverer could

know with certainty that this was exactly who God had sent and not some imposter playing

dress up.

And finally part 3.

This was a strategic decision on God's part.

This is actually the part of the argument that I'm still working through a bit...

but here it goes.

Jesus came during a relative timeframe of peace.

Yes, the Jews were under Roman rule and they weren't exactly passivist, but there's

a reason why historians describe this timeframe as the "Pax Romana" or the peace of Rome.

For a period of a few hundred years there was an unprecedented season of peace and the

result was an explosion of thought and culture.

Prior to this timeframe progress was often slowed since war after war would take place

and people would die, cities would have to be rebuilt and everyone would have to start

over again.

For the first time in history, you could travel by land and sea with relative safety.

Rome had developed the most amazing system of roads that has ever been created.

In fact- when I was in Rome this last year, we drove around on many of the same roads

that were built way back in the day!

Additionally, there was one common language that was spoken.

Prior to this time, in order for information to spread you would have to learn other languages

in order to communicate with different people groups.

But now, if you understood Greek, you could speak to well over 1/3rd of the entire world!

Another thing to think about is Jews.

While many Jews did happen to miss the coming of Jesus, they was still that God was able

to do with them.

At that time the requirement was that they would all meet at Jerusalem from all over

the world in order to attend the feasts.

It's actually at the feast of passover that Jesus is crucified and the feast of Pentecost

that Peter is later seen preaching to the thousands.

The result?

Thousands and thousands of Jews from all over the world would hear this message and later

go back to their homes and villages with the message of Christ.

There's more to be said, but let's pause right there for a second.

Because ultimately this answer could be wrong.

I don't know for sure, but I think there's a more important lesson for us to learn through

this story.

One of my favorite authors says this.

That "God's purposes know no haste or delay."

Or to quote the words of Gundolf the Grey, "A wizard is never late, nor is her early.

He arrives precisely when he means to."

Allowing sin to mature and be revealed as truly evil, fulfilled prophecies and strategy.

A sheer dress is a bold choice for a Christmas lunch, especially when it's lunch with the

But the former Suits star's' latest striking fashion statement appears to be a repeat.

Markle wore the same ensemble during her appearance on the Today show back in January 2016.

Fans of the British royal family may already be aware that Markle's recent Erdem look,

however recycled, marked a departure from one of her go-to designers over the last year,

Givenchy.

Markle donned a gorgeous white Givenchy gown for her wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018.

Since then, the duchess has gone for Givenchy on multiple occasions, including a navy blue

coat and dress outfit at Princess Eugenie of York's nuptials in October 2018.

In related news, Markle and Prince Harry spent Christmas Day with Prince William and Duchess

Kate Middleton following rumors of an ongoing feud.

These reports were only fueled last month amid reports that the Sussexes planned to

split from the Cambridges by moving out of Kensington Palace and into Frogmore Cottage
