Hello and welcome to our interview with Arjen Robben.
We are in between the last two games of the year 2018
and while Arjen Robben won't be able to play these two games
it isn't the final interview for Bayern Munich since Arjen still has half a season ahead here.
Let's start by talking about your current situation
and your injury. What's wrong and when will you return?
I have some muscle issues in my upper thigh
and unfortunately I won't be able to play before the winter break anymore.
I trust my body though, I feel pretty good
and the doc is happy too so
I expect to be back in Doha.
You mentioned the winter training camp in Doha. Knowing you
we expect nothing but full steam ahead from you in Doha and afterwards.
Sure. Like you said:
I'm not thinking about saying goodbye yet. We have great goals as a team
and so do I individually.
Following the winter break I want to give it everything I've got
for the club once more.
I have a good feeling we can still be very successful this season.
That's why we have to work really hard.
Let's take a look at what Arjen Robben has shown this season so far.
As always you provided us with some beautiful goals.
Arjen, how happy are you with the first half of the season?
I think we had a difficult period and we can't deny it.
Now the situation is better and we have one game left.
We're six points behind which is still a lot but that's a big difference to being nine points back.
I hope it stays that way because catching up six points in the second half of the season
is possible.
We have to make sure we win the last, very difficult match
before the break
and then we have to keep pushing.
We had a good start and a good finish and
a couple of problems in between.
The second half of the season is still ahead
and I don't want to ask about next season but tell us
about your decision to quit Bayern.
Last season it was already an issue. It took a long time to extend my contract
and at the time I already thought about what to do and what I want.
I decided to extend the contract once more
and after the first two months or so I started thinking about my future again.
There was a lot of speculation in the media and I just thought it was the right moment
to announce my decision.
I wanted to be honest towards the fans too.
Now there's time to prepare for the end and I can experience
everything more consciously.
I know it's the final season and for me
it's good to work with that knowledge in mind.
I feel good and also relieved:
after ten years this was a big step for me.
It was a fantastic time,
I am very grateful and like I said I will give it
everything I've got.
I'm still not sure what will happen then
but since I already announced my decision I can completely focus on football this season
and that's important for me.
You say you're taking everything in more consciously.
How excited are you for Anfield?
If I could have chosen an opponent
it might have been Liverpool
just for the atmosphere.
They are a super strong opponent
but if you want to win the Champions League you have to be able to beat the best.
If we can continue to play the way we have recently
and keep improving in the second half of the season
I believe we're ready for a top game.
Particularly because Niko Kovac survived that rough patch.
How would you describe him?
The coach is a really good guy. I like him a lot.
It's fun working with him.
He is a really honest and direct human being
and of course this is a completely new experience for him. When you join a club as big as Bayern
it's not easy
and you could tell during that rough patch.
But he passed that first test
and like I said we have to work together. We win and lose together.
I think the entire coaching team is doing a very good job
and the players have to bring it to the pitch.
We will keep working on improving and then we'll see.
Unfortunately we're nearing the end of this interview
but tell us how
the Robbens celebrate Christmas.
We're pretty traditional but we also have little time for the family.
We only really have time twice a year to spend time together so we'll fly away.
Every year we fly towards the sun,
we will enjoy the good weather and the time spent together.
I will recharge the batteries and then go into the second half of the season
full steam ahead.
