is there anything sadder than the sight of progressives solemnly going through
their boring rituals when nobody cares that's what happened Sunday when
activists sought to mobilize the public to keep Brett Kavanaugh off the Supreme
Court from Toledo to San Francisco protesters dutifully showed up with cava
Knope placards unite for justice t-shirts and of course their signature
Handmaid's Tale red frocks meant to symbolize Judge Calvin as an instrument
of the patriarchy the website common dreams called the protests the largest
of its kind in U s history but it barely registered a blip all that sound and
fury signifying one thing they don't have the votes how different this is
from the original performance three decades back say what you will about Dan
Kennedy but when the demagogue was needed he was the man for the job within
45 minutes of Ronald Reagan's announcement that Robert Bork was his
pick to replace the retiring justice Lewis Powell on the high court kennedy
introduced him to America this way Robert Bork's America is a land in which
women would be forced into back-alley abortions blacks would sit at segregated
lunch counters rogue police could break down citizen's doors and midnight raids
school children could not be taught about evolution artists would be
censored at the whim of government and the doors of the federal courts would be
shut on the fingers of millions of citizens for whom the judiciary is often
the only protector of the individual rights that are the heart of our
democracy

Republicans gearing up for a major political battle in the Senate to get
president Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh confirmed to the bench
but as Democrats vowed to fight this confirmation one of Cavanaugh's former
law clerks is coming to his defense joining us now it's Jen mascot who
clerked for Kavanagh in 2006 she's also an assistant law professor at George
Mason University thank you so much for joining us Jennifer welcome good morning
thank you for having me on Rachel so just tell us a little bit about what it
was like to work for him I think all of us are curious about that so you know
judge Kavanagh is an extremely intelligent judge he's one of the
sharpest legal thinkers in the country he's also a very fair-minded independent
judge and so he brings a lot of care and expertise when he's looking at the
issues in cases USA Today the day that after he was nominated referred to him
is on paper perhaps one of the most qualified nominees in generations and so
it was a real honor to work for him and I learned a lot from that time and if
the Senate were to confirm him I expect he continued to be a thought leader
independent fair-minded judge on the Supreme Court for decades to come
so his reputation from other sources that we've heard who've worked for him
say that he's very Pro woman that he's mentoring women is that your experience
as well it is yes judge Kavanagh keeps up with all of his law clerks he has had
more women than men actually as law clerks he's probably had the strongest
record of hiring women at one of the strongest records out of any of the
appeals courts judges and so he's known for appreciating diversity of thoughts
gender across the board and just really values taking into account lots of
different perspectives and is really fair in terms of how he treats people
and also how he rules on the issues so on the Democrat side as you know there's
a lot of resistance towards his nomination they're very united in that
one of the things that they're saying right now is they don't have enough
information about him what do you say to that so my understanding is that so far
more than 200,000 pages of records have been made available to the Senate
Judiciary Committee but also judge Kavanagh has been on the court of
appeals for 12 years and so he's written more than 300 opinions
and he's in depth in those cases shown the American public how he would rule as
a judge he takes issues case-by-case he looks at both sides he examines the text
of law precedent and quite frankly he believes that an independent judiciary
is the crown jewel of our constitutional system and he's applied the law in every
case whether it you know whatever outcome it reaches to whether it's more
for interest in favor of government action or against government action for
Republican aligned interests or Democratic aligned interests it doesn't
matter as long as it's consistent with the law well and for the record he has
what 300 public cases for anyone to review he's turned over thousands of
documents I'm not sure if getting any more is going to change Chuck Schumer's
mind but we really appreciate your perspective on all this really quickly
do you think he's going to be confirmed before the midterm elections I do think
he is he's going to he would be a wonderful justice on the Supreme Court
if the Senate were to confirm him and I just I just urge everyone to look at his
opinions and his fair mindedness and look at the record really of people on
both sides bipartisan support former attorneys and practitioners both under
President Obama and then others have referred to him as very very eminently
qualified and fair and he would be a wonderful Supreme Court justice well

personal insight into who he is thank you thank you for having me have a great
morning all right Democrats have blasted the administration for temporarily
separating illegal immigrant families at the border unimaginably they have ripped
children away from their parents it is inhumane it is cruel when you take
children away and separate families you are doing the complete opposite of the
values of this nation those children should be with their moms and their dads
does the president think of children as accessories and not central to the
purpose of family sanctity in our country okay the left says it's deeply
opposed to splitting up families so were they even more horrified watching an
American citizen permanently separated from her family by an illegal alien on
CNN senator Elizabeth Warren from I did a very clear answer no the real
problem she said is family separations of illegal aliens watch I'm so sorry for
the family here and I know this is hard not only for the family but for the
people in her community the people throughout Iowa but one of the things we
have to remember is we need an immigration system that is effective
that focuses on where real problems are where real problems are Marian Mendoza
is the mother of police sergeant Brandon Mendoza who was killed by an illegal
immigrant she joins us tonight miss Mendoza thank you very much for joining
us so when you hear a politician say yeah someone died in that said but the
real problem is how we treat people trying to sneak into our country
illegally what's your response to that I was disgusted by senator Elizabeth
Warren here in her speak today and what I need what I want to say to her is stop
lying to the American people because you don't care what is happening to the
victims of illegal alien crime because if you did you would be standing up for
us and you would be doing something about it
we have pleaded with these politicians to do something to protect American
citizens and they are ramping up their protection of illegal alien criminals
and I just want to say you know there there are so many victims Tucker and
when you think of Courtney hacking in Texas and her husband and two children
were killed and the illegal alien got two years when you think of sanders
cohan and carlos wolf in maryland who were killed on the side of the road and
maryland charged that illegal a hundred and forty dollars for each of the men he
killed and that's the only punishment he got is this what an american life is
worth to our politicians and to our to our fellow americans who don't
understand this disgusting narrative that is happening in our country and
this has become political because it's a very politicians who are elected into
office who are not doing a dang thing about this and they're ignoring the
american people crying for help and they're stepping over dead american
bodies in their rush to protect illegal alien criminals I don't think you're
overstating that I agree with everything you said and I'm really sad about it and
I'm said that you've felt the sting of these
insane policies a Marion Mendoza thank you very much for joining us I want to
just say that my heart goes out to the Tibbets family and god bless them and I
know what they're experiencing tonight and I'm heartbroken the death of Mollie
Tibbets at the hands of an illegal immigrant is still sending shockwaves
throughout the country in the wake of this tragedy liberal senator Elizabeth
Warren raised some eyebrows with this reaction to mollies murder now this is
hard not only for the family but for the people in her community the people
throughout Iowa but one of the things we have to remember is we need an
immigration system that is effective that focuses on where real problems are
separating a momma from a baby does not make this country safer joining

thanks for joining us what do you make of that well she's so tone deaf I mean
this is what the American people is so frustrated with it seems like people on
the left are so focused on the legals but they're not focused on the American
citizens that are often harmed by people that shouldn't be in this country they
came in this country illegally this is why I see them not being able to do well
in the midterms because every single time they have the opportunity to say
hey I'm not American I'm upset too they say oh no this is this this
president against illegals we don't want to enrage people against getting a
comprehensive immigration reform well I mean they keep sliding back to the
family separation which was I think a low point for the President and
something that they wish they could probably take back but you know their
tone keeps sounding more and more like they just want open borders they want
people if you want to come here just come here and when you put that to the
people and bowling that's not a very popular idea well I think they're
stepping on them it's not that they sound like they want open borders they
have made it very clear do they want to open borders they don't respect the law
they want ice eliminated they want us to cry about the kids at the border but
remember there are a lot of crimes in America where kids are stripped away
from their parents all day every day and they have to pay the consequences like
the war on drugs was Democrats supporter back in
black we all support ripped away from their family back in the day because of
the war on drugs but guess what if you want the drug laws to change then you
got to go through the criminal justice reform process it's the same for
immigration there's not this special privilege for forgetting immigration
done they got to go through the legal process and if Congress doesn't like the
law if they want to have a better system to just change the law and get a bill to
the President's desk it's that simple
let's talk about this next topic it's been a week after the DNC said they were
going to review domestic abuse allegations against keith ellison
haven't heard anything yeah so here's the deal
many of us on the right have always called for due process that people have
a presumption of innocence before you start you know asking him to resign but
that's not what the Democrats said during the meeting movement they said
that you're guilty first and then you got to prove yourself innocent but now
because they like this guy because he is one of the vice chairman of the
Democratic Party and and they feel like he's an advocate
for women rights then he gets a pass and I think that's just so hypocritical and
if they have one standard they should stick with it is he is he at risk and
this and this companies running for attorney general in Minnesota right I
mean this guy is not just his you know a big name yeah alleged abuses but it's
his ties to radical Islam for being a supervisor for a lot of but this is
their guy so they're gonna provide cover for Alexandra Acacio cortes we've been
talking about her a lot lately and she posted a photo I believe it was all I'm
mentioning this coffee shop closure that she frequented and but if their claims
right right so your coffee shop is you know experiencing the same thing is the
American businesses all across the country guess what when you raise the
minimum wage people lose their jobs they replace them with now machines now so
you know I don't feel sorry for her I think that she's this is a woman that
has benefited from capitalism and now she's changing her tune right but I
would caution people about laughing about her because we've been reported on
this that campus reform for a little bit these young people believe in her they
believe in socialism and it scares the hell out of me and it makes me upset
when I see Republicans laugh at it because I remember a junior senator with
big ears that people use the laughs that about his hope and change of message he
became the president of the United States so you know I think we look need
to be a little bit cautious with it laughing out of her coffee shop here in
Manhattan and they say that they can't stay open because the wage hikes have
really hurt their business these are wage hikes that Alexandria Acacio Cortez
is a big fan of and when they close a coffee shop all of a sudden she's not so
crazy about the idea because that's what happens because it's her coffee shop but
again there are small businesses all across America that are experiencing the
same thing and and in her policies have socialist policies she supports that she
supports raising the minimum wage you know 7:15 an hour you're gonna clean
socks welcome to the world right when you do it coffee shot is gone now sorry
