Today in Nigeria's History November 5 November 5, 1982 Uzodinma Iweala, an author, a
physician and a sociologist is born in Washington in the United States. He is
the author of the book 'Beasts of No Nation' which was adapted into a movie in
2015. He is also the son of former minister Finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
1999 Journalist Sam Boyi of Adamawa state Newspaper, The Scope is killed in a crossfire
between security guards of the governor of the state
Haruna Bonnie and about Thirty(30) gunmen who attacked the governor of the state as he
was traveling from Yola to Bauchi. Sam Boyi was one of the journalists
assigned to cover the trip. 2013 The Federal government
formally hands over Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium to the Enugu state government
following an approval by then President Goodluck Jonathan to the application by
the state government. 1963 A Census begins in Nigeria as the result of the
census carried out the year before was rejected by the government because the
count of the southern part of the country was higher than that of the
northern part. The 1963 census results which was accepted by the government was
vice versa but it was contested at the Supreme Court. The court however said it
lacked jurisdiction on the matter. 2014 Sixteen(16) men who had been arrested by soldiers
in Potiskum, Yobe state on suspicion of being members of the
dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, are found dead at the Potiskum General
Hospital with bullet wounds on them. The leaders of Dogo Tebo community
where the men had been arrested believe the men were killed by the soldiers.
