India and Russia traditionally have been strong partners since the ties were
forged during Soviet Union both countries supported each other stance in
Kashmir and in Afghanistan but Russia's recent engagement with Pakistan and
close cooperation with China have raised several questions with an Indian
establishment so why is Russia moving close to China and Pakistan and how is
this going to impact ties with India to find out all these answers
let's check this report if you like our content subscribe to our Channel and
after you subscribe don't forget to click on bell icon India is one of the
world's largest arms importer and the major portion of its imports comes from
Russia in the past few years India replace her Russia with Israel and
America as a top source for arms New Delhi is upgrading large portion of
military hardware which were originally made during Soviet Union India is
upgrading its military hardware to maintain an edge over its rival China
because China also acquires sophisticated weapons from Russia
India's diversion of arms import source have affected Russian arms sales which
supports large portion of its economy Russian economy is seriously struggling
these days due to Western sanctions recessions and falling oil prices Russia
is trying to boost its economy by forging ties with new nation to explore
new markets and the nation who have similar strained relation with the West
China and Pakistan are the best option at this point
Moscow is interested in expanding businesses in Pakistan it has offered
technical support for power plants which may later help to open gateway for
Russian energy export Moscow and Islamabad had already inked two billion
dollar deal for construction of gas pipeline from Lahore to Karachi now it
also wants to invest in Pakistan agriculture technology which includes
drip irrigation and desert farming same as what Israel does in Indian
agriculture sector Russia's approach to Pakistan is more than economic interest
Moscow wants to regain influence in Afghanistan to control ISIS and drug
traffickers Pakistan's plays very important role in Afghanistan this is
why US still needs Pakistan Pakistan has also granted Russia access to warm water
Gwadar Port which is strategically located near Strait of Hormuz around 35%
of world's Seaborne oil export passes through Strait of Hormuz China who have
almost similar problems like Russia with the West naturally turns it into close
partners today Russia and China's relation have reached to its highest
level their bilateral relations are expanding supported by high profile
energy and defense deals today China is getting bigger and better day by day
hence there is increase in energy consumption and demand now it has become
world's second largest oil consumer it doesn't want to entirely rely on Middle
East oil imports traveling through disputed South China Sea therefore China
is diversifying its energy import source from Middle East to Russia Russia is
also diversifying its energy export source from Europe to China energy
exports make up more than half of total Russian exports but energy exports alone
aren't going to help Russian economy due to falling oil prices therefore it had
to find another option China and Russia are working on their ambitious project
to integrate Eurasian landmass with that purpose Russia established Eurasian
Economic Union and on other hand China's one belt one Road initiative under which
Beijing will finance to create projects and build infrastructure in multiple
countries so that Eurasia can be physically and economically integrated
with China at its core looking at growing sino-russian alliance there is a
possibility of linking these two projects this will be a win-win
situation for both the countries with belt and Road initiative Russia hopes
more Chinese investment
China's belt and Road initiative is good for Russians but at the same time it
also raises deep insecurities with in Russian establishment because China's
new Silk Route passes through several former Soviet states and Moscow fears
that Chinese good might invade its market in post-soviet states this will
decrease Russian export in this areas first creating new problems for already
dooming Russian economy Russia established Eurasian Economic Union in
hopes of creating Russian dominated geopolitical bloc
therefore Russia sometimes remains suspicious and cautious about increasing
Chinese activities in that region based on current growth rate it is predicted
Chinese economy will dominate 21st century race to expand dominance in
Eurasia can trigger a new great game between Russia and China in future the
same great game which was seen in most recent period of history between British
and Russian Empire in 19th century but today Russia is not powerful as it was
during 19th century it cannot counter this problem alone it requires another
power which can compete China's growing influence and here comes India India is
another major strategic partner of Russia after China and one of the
fastest-growing major economies in the world if everything goes right its
economy is all set to boom to be among world's top 3 in future today Russia
needs heavy investment and it doesn't want to put all the eggs in one basket
by entirely relying on China for investment Moscow wants heavy investment
in its Far-East due to geopolitical reason China is a neutral option but at
the same time it is also bit sensitive about growing Chinese presence in its
far eastern region particularly about increasing Chinese population which are
settling there India's both investment and presence will be a balancing act
with the recent visit of Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj at Eurasia
economic forum India aims to achieve 30 billion dollar trade target
with a Russian forest by 2025 Hence for Russia relations with India is as much
as important its relation with China there is a link given on the video if we
like to know more on Russia and China relations
