Da-hae made Sangga for David who came from Cameroon! [Guesthouse Daughters / 2017.05.02] - Duration: 15:17.

(Noisy noisy)

(Again party time)

(Fun fun)

It's so much fun here.

We started dancing as soon as we got here.

It feels like we're friends.

Like old friends.

But we haven't introduced each other yet.

You all speak Korean, right?

Hello. (Jestryl Evaga Ororo (Age 28) / Gabon)

I'm Jestryl from Gabon.

Gabon? Oh, Gabon.

Our cultures are very similar.

- They're similar? / - I know it well.

The food we eat in Gabon

went over to Cameroon. They're similar.

I'm Leticia. I'm from Ghana.

- From Ghana? / - Yes.

I was going to do this hairstyle.

But my hair only grows this much.

Please introduce yourself.

I'm Anida. (Anida Emepa Hato (Age 29) / Ghana)

Why don't we have a seat and talk?

Let's have a seat. Is it okay to sit?

David isn't so good at Korean yet.

Could you please give him some tips on

how to learn Korean easily?

You all speak Korean so well.

Do you know "Crayon Shin Chan"?

What?

It's a cartoon from Japan.

Crayon Shin Chan. Yes. Crayon Shin Chan.

Crayon Shin Chan.

Crayon Shin Chan? The movie?

You can watch it at home.

You can watch TV and learn Korean.

Do you understand?

You can watch Dahey's drama and study, too.

I'll watch your dramas!

That's a good idea, too.

I watched one of your dramas.

You did?

It helped in learning Korean.

Which one did you watch?

- "My Girl." / - "My Girl."

(I am Lee Dahey)

Dahey!

Korean beauty.

That feels so good.

You know what the important thing is?

If you learn Korean from a woman,

you end up speaking like a girl.

(Understand)

That's why you speak a bit like a girl, Sam.

That's right, sis.

(Cute cute)

I can't bear to look.

Get out.

What do you do when you want to eat hometown food?

Gabon. If you want to eat Gabonese food.

There's no choice.

You just bear it?

I have no choice. I eat kimchi.

That's the reality.

Just accept it. That's the reality.

Let's just eat kimchi instead.

I really had a lot of kimchi.

You ate too much kimchi?

You're sick of it?

We're going to cook later.

Let's all eat together.

I would like to try it, too.

I'm very curious.

Have you ever made sangga before?

(No...)

Unfortunately, no.

(I want to eat sangga)

Let's speak to his mother first.

We need to know what ingredients we need.

There's a supermarket nearby.

Connecting (Korea to Cameroon)

I don't think the connection is good.

Hi, mom.

Mama.

Mom. (My mom)

Hello.

Hello.

She speaks Korean.

Please say hello to David.

David, say hello to your mom.

(Awkward awkward)

How did she meet a Korean man?

I've been curious about that.

Please ask her that first.

I've been curious about that.

Mom. How did you meet dad?

(Mom is shy)

Look at her face.

He was a Taekwondo instructor.

Taekwondo? Taekwondo.

I ended up with him while learning Taekwondo.

Mother. David...

He wants to eat sangga.

Do you want me to tell you now?

She's asking if she should tell us now. (Yes)

Oui. Oui. Mama, oui.

(Sangga: Corn soup which is often eaten in Cameroon)

If she could tell us how to make it in order

I will write it down and follow her recipe.

Okay.

First, prepare 1kg of corn.

1 gram of corn.

1kg.

(Embarrassed)

Cut off the kettles and throw out the white part.

What?

What is it called in Korean?

The part you don't eat.

Should I call it "Kkongdaeng"?

"Kkongdaeng"?

I pour corn in it?

No, no. Wait.

No, no.

In a big pot, put vegetables, corn,

and two cups of water and cook on low heat.

This is very hard. (It won't be easy today)

Two cups of water and...

Let's just eat kimchi stew.

(Not today, please...)

Then add a liter and a half of water and stir.

Do we use any seasoning?

Ask if we can use ramen sauce.

(Speechless)

That's it.

Thank you so much, mother.

Please say a word to David.

I love you and I miss you.

We love you, too. (Kiss)

Thank you so much, mother.

We love you, too.

I love you, mama.

(Cooking time for David)

(Sam has an apron on)

(An apron for Dahey)

(Dahey has changed to cook)

You're already wearing an apron.

I always carry one with me.

I was going to give you this. (Dahey is thorough)

- Who prepared it? / - I did.

Really? You are such a gentleman.

You all have aprons on?

Sure.

This one is for you, Yuan.

(Zhang Yuan is ready to cook, too)

(Everybody is busy getting ready to cook)

(But this man stands still)

(Cooking police Dahey sees him!)

Yuan, please get me some scissors.

Scissors?

(Today's assistant is Zhang Yuan)

Give me a bowl.

Good. Please wash it.

Water. I need a big bottle of water.

I'll keep it in the freezer for now.

Thank you.

Please get me a cup.

Yuan.

Please order one every ten seconds.

10, 9...

Where's the sugar?

(It hasn't been ten seconds yet)

I'll get it for you.

I can't go over to that side.

Just tell me what to do.

I can't cook anything but this.

You need this much olive oil?

Yes. You are supposed to use a lot of olive oil.

How do you make it?

You have to make tomato stew first.

Tomato stew.

(Jollof rice: West African rice dish with tomato stew)

What's David doing?

(He's having fun)

Please check in with David from time to time,

so he isn't bored.

Come when I need you later, okay?

Okay.

Is everything going well?

It's a chaos in there.

Is it tough?

Unbelievable.

Wash, wash, wash.

I washed vegetables and rice.

(You worked hard)

We're supposed to press it out,

but we bought the made one in Itaewon.

(Palm nut oil)

(Palm nut oil adds unique color and taste)

We have less work to do.

I'm curious what this tastes like.

(What is this?)

(What taste does palm oil add to sangga?)

It doesn't have any taste.

(Sam is done preparing ingredients for jollof rice)

- I'm done. / - Okay.

(Jollof 1. Stir fry sliced onion in oil)

(Jollor 2. Add tomato paste and mix)

(Jollof 3. Add diced tomatoes and boil it down)

It smells good.

Am I supposed to cook spinach like this?

Shouldn't I chop it first?

(Should I chop it or not?)

I should chop it, right?

Do I just stir fry this?

I should chop it up first, right?

I should stir fry it in olive oil, right?

How much eggplant should I put in?

I've never had this dish before,

so I don't know what to do.

(Sangga 1. Stir fry spinach and add water and boil)

(Sangga 2. Add corn and eggplant)

(Sangga 3. Add palm nut oil and boil down)

(How does it taste?)

What taste is this? (Confused)

How does it taste?

I think you're doing great.

What is this taste?

Does it taste better when it boils down?

(She takes a bite with concern)

(Another bite)

(Another bite)

It's starting to taste good.

Is it good?

Yeah. I keep eating it. (Sangga-holic)

(Will she be able to recreate David's mom's cooking?)

(Meanwhile, Sam's jollof is almost done)

Can I taste it?

- Oh my. / - Why?

- It's so good. / - You like it?

It's so good.

What is this?

Chicken. (Ta da)

That looks so good.

I'll show you something interesting.

What?

You usually do this to mix the ingredients, right?

This is how you do it in Ghana.

(How to mix ingredients in Ghana)

What? What?

I'm mixing onion and garlic.

To mix the ingredients.

(Jollof 1. Fry chicken, onion, and garlic)

(Jollof 2. Add to tomato stew and boil down)

(Finally dinner time late at night)

We got the recipe at 4 p.m and it's now 8 p.m.

It took so long.

It's okay.

I thought it was easy to make, but I was wrong.

I'm curious to see how it looks.

I don't really know if it tastes good.

It tastes unfamiliar.

I will go make instant noodles.

I'll open mine first.

One, two, three.

(Wow)

(Everyone's focused on the food)

Does it look the same?

- It smells right. / - It does?

It smells similar? (Relieved)

Let's taste it later.

I was going to make jollof, but because

I didn't have much time, I made tomato stew.

Tomato stew.

With chicken.

This can't taste bad.

(African dinner that Dahey and Sam made)

I did my best, but

I don't know how similar it'll taste to your mom's.

I'm very curious to know.

You did a good job considering this is your first time.

Did I?

You didn't know anything.

I'm from Ghana and

if you tell me to make kimchi stew all of a sudden...

(Perfect example by Sam)

That's a great example.

Please try it.

David.

It looks good.

There's sugar.

I already put sugar in.

I already put it in.

You like to eat things sweet.

This is how you're supposed to eat it.

Really? (Sangga is eaten with sugar)

(A mouthful)

I'm so nervous.

(How does Dahey's sangga taste?)

I see.

I'm greatly satisfied.

Really? Honestly?

(Touched)

I'm glad you said it's good.

It feels good.

This is Ghanaian food so...

Who should taste it?

Yuan should.

(Zhang Yuan is chosen)

Please have a taste.

I had a taste and it was good.

Try the chicken.

(Tilt)

Why? It's not good?

Here he goes again.

Oh gee.

But he ends up eating it all.

(Curious curious)

(He's about to talk but he doesn't)

Why do you have that look?

(Yuan knows how to toy with people)

Come on.

It's really good.

(Everyone starts eating)

Let's eat, everybody.

Let me teach you the Korean culture.

Even if it doesn't taste good, since she made it

for you, you must eat it all.

Don't teach him that. He needs to be honest.

- It's good, Dahey. / - It's good.

He might get an upset stomach.

You've only been eating Korean food these days.

Are you happy that you're eating African food now?

It's really good.

- Good job. / - Thank you.

You did a great job, too.

Call me when you want to eat African food.

(I will)

(Dahey and Sam cooked with sincerity)

I'm very happy.

We cooked so hard and you say it's good.

Let's toast.

Cheers.

Cheers. Enjoy.

Dowsing and Relationships - Duration: 3:34.

Hi, this is Nigel from Discovering Dowsing answering your questions about dowsing.

Dowsing and relationships

This is a subject which pops up fairly frequently.

This isn't surprising, because relationships are a big issue!

People want to know if they will find their soulmate with dowsing, or they want to know

if the person they have met is the right one for them.

In other words, they're either asking about when and if they will meet someone, which

is dowsing about the future or they are wondering about the relationship they are currently

in or wanting to be in.

Dowsing about the future is tricky.

Dowsing about relationships in the future adds another layer of tricky!

I'll explain why.

First, the future is not set in stone for everyone.

There are always possibilities and new directions awaiting any of us.

The further out from the present you go, the more there are.

This makes future dowsing, especially about such a broad subject as meeting someone, a

really difficult task.

This is doubly so for newbies at dowsing.

I'm not saying it can't be done.

There are some people who can do this, but they are few and very far between.

Then, you add in the mix about having a relationship!

You want one, or you wouldn't be asking.

So you're going to find it really difficult to be objective about this and it's going

to be hard trying to keep your emotions in check when you dowse.

Guess who mostly asks this sort of question?

You're right, it's newbies.

Newbies don't have the skill - yet - to ask these sorts of questions themselves, but

they're often the ones doing the asking!

So, the next type of question is about current or wished for relationships, with a particular

person in mind.

This can be a little easier because it's not so much about the indeterminate future,

but it still has issues.

Asking about relationships is not a simple, 'does he/she like me?' or 'is he or

she the one for me?'

This is where a skillfully crafted question or series of questions is hugely important.

To ask such a question you need to have it clear in your own mind what it is you are

looking for in a relationship.

That's going to be unique to you.

How important are good looks?

Honesty?

Dress sense?

Financial security?

Sense of humor?

List down all of the aspects of a person that are important to you.

Then, you can begin to dowse about how well that person matches your list of priorities.

For each one dowse on a scale of 0 to 1o, with 10 being absolutely perfect for you.

But don't do it only for right now.

Also dowse for, say, six months down the line.

Things change when people get together!

Look at your answers (assuming you were able to dowse accurately in an emotionally detached

mindset) and then work out what you can live with and what you can't.

Dowsing is a useful guide, but it never takes the place of real life.

Use it to help you understand yourself and your needs better and that alone will be invaluable

in helping you find the right person for you.

Happy Dowsing!

dowsing below.

but fascinating skill!

Dimensionless Groups for 241 - Duration: 9:17.

>> We know all these forces are important in fluid mechanics,

so now let's see how we can combine them into different ratios to tell us

which forces are most important at different times when we're looking

at different food phenomena in Mec 241.

So we expect all of these to change in different ways as we change the size of our flow.

But we could look at the ratios of them to see which ones we expect to be important

and when we expect them to be important.

If we look at inertial forces versus viscus forces,

take the ratio of the inertial force divided by the viscus force and do some canceling out,

we'll wind up with row UL over mew.

And in fact, the Reynold's number, the single most important dimensionless groups

in fluid mechanics is what we get from this ratio of inertial forces to viscus forces.

And it'll wind up being velocity times the length scale divided by the kinematic viscosity.

Where the kinematic viscosity is just the ratio of the dynamic viscosity and the density.

It's always important.

Always important to know how strong the viscus forces are versus the inertial forces.

Sometimes however, it's only important to be able to say that the Reynold's number is large.

That inertial forces really dominate over viscus forces.

And that there's not much going on that has very much to do with friction.

If we compare inertial forces to surface tension forces, we can follow the same process

and get this ratio which has got velocity squared and length scale on the top

and surface tension on the bottom.

And that dimensionless group turns out to be Weber number.

It's important in drops and bubbles.

It's important in telling us whether surface tension forces are going

to have any significant effect on the flow that we're interested in.

Shows up as major importance in drops and bubbles

because as you increase the Weber number, the inertial force goes up.

That means that the flow around the bubble is much better able to disrupt or break

up the bubble or the drop into smaller bubbles or drops by deforming the shape.

If we compare inertial versus gravitational forces, we can put the inertial force on top

and the gravitational force on the bottom.

And taking those values and canceling through we wind up with velocity squared on top,

gravity and length scale on the bottom.

If we take the square root of that,

we'll wind up with the value that's commonly known as the Froude number.

This Froude number is comparing the energy of motion, the inertial force,

with the gravitational forces that tend

to restore the position or the surface of the water.

Really important if you're building ships or comparing how waves form.

Really important in open channel flow.

Usually not very important in most mechanical engineering contexts.

If we compare the magnitude of pressure forces versus inertial forces then we'll wind

up with the pressure force divided by the inertial force.

Some pressure times length squared over row U squared L squared.

Or P over row U squared.

So we can see that that's a dimensionless group that has something to do with pressure.

We can use that to define a pressure coefficient.

And typically, we'll do that with the pressure minus the ambient pressure.

And we'll work a factor of two in here

because of Bernoulli's equation which you'll see later on.

And that's a dimensionless pressure.

That tells us how large the pressure is compared to the pressure

that would be generated by bringing the flow to a stop.

These two are really important if we're trying to consider forces due to pressure

that are resulting in either drag or lift.

You can see we got a similar arrangement there.

Here we had our pressure coefficient.

Here we've got drag force per unit area.

Here we got a lift force per unit area with the same units

as pressure from this force per unit area.

This allows us to get a dimensionless sense of how large the drag is.

Or a dimensionless sense of how large the lift is.

Finally, another important dimensionless group that doesn't really come from a ratio

of forces is a ratio of velocities.

The ratio of the velocity of the flow to the speed of sound in that fluid.

Really important in compressable flows, especially flows at high speed.

And it's not important as long as the Mach number is less than about .3 which corresponds

to about 100 metres per second in air.

So in this course, we won't be worrying about compressable flow,

but you may run into high Mach numbers in later courses in fluid mechanics.

You may also need to check and make sure that the Mach number isn't over about .3

so that you know you can get away with applying the kind of analysis we're doing in this course.

All of these dimensionless groups have their roots in the 19th century.

This is Osborne Reynold's, William Froude, Ernst Mach, and Moritz Weber.

And they were all born many, many years ago.

You probably won't get your number named after you because they got there first and they carved

out all of the important group in fluid mechanics.

If you do get a number named after you, you'll be standing on the shoulders of giants

like these when you do get that recognition.

Dimensionless groups show up everywhere, particularly in fluids and heat transfer.

These are the things that allow us to make sense of the huge collection of results that we've got

and compare two situations that are similar but not identical to see

if the flows are behaving the same way.

If you've got a collection of important dimensionless groups,

say N of them, some number like five.

If you had five dimensionless groups,

if you made four of them all the same then the fifth one would turn

out to have the same value as well.

So in our flows, we most often do that by making sure that we have geometric similarity.

And then Reynold's number similarity, for example.

If we've got dimensional similarity and Reynold's number similarity then we can expect

that the drag coefficient will be the same at that Reynold's number

or the lift coefficient will be the same at that Reynold's number.

Here's an example looking at drag coefficients on a sphere.

And you'll see that there are different results for smooth and rough.

There's the smooth drag coefficient.

And there's the rough drag coefficient.

They're pretty similar except when we get up to here.

They've been plotted versus Reynold's number.

And this data here for drag coefficient represents a huge amount of data all

of which fits on to the same line because the only thing that's important is the Reynold's

number in determining the drag coefficient.

That means that we can take experiments that were done on spheres at small scales

and scale them up to see what we expect to see happening at a much larger scale.

In many mechanical engineering contexts, we're interested in lift and drag on automobiles

on aircraft on just about anything that's moving through the air or the water.

Important groups are going to include for certain the geometry.

What size or sorry, what shape are the things that we're looking

at including the details of the shape.

For instance, the roughness height compared to the main length of the body.

Reynold's number always important.

And that will tell us what a drag coefficient is or what the lift coefficient is

for performance in our real system.

So we can scale our model performance up to a larger or down to a smaller sized system.

When are the various dimensionless groups important?

Well, Reynold's number, almost always

but sometimes it's enough just to make sure it's large.

Mach number, only if it gets big enough that compressable flow effects are important.

And that will only happen when the velocities

in the flow are getting up towards the speed of sound.

So as long as we keep the Mach number under about .3 we can ignore it.

The Froude number, if you're going to be a civil engineer or a naval architect,

you definitely need to worry about Froude numbers.

But not so much if we're going to be a mechanical engineer,

we're very much interested in the Reynold's number.

And if we have a small scale flow like atomization or the rain falling

through the air then we'll be interested in the Weber number because that's going

to tell us how drops and bubbles are deforming under the influences of the flow around them.

Reimagining Community: A Multi-generational Dialogue for a Bright Future - Duration: 2:31.

Tonight we are celebrating an event called Reimagining

Community. It is designed to spark interest from the

community in talking about issues of importance to

community development here in the Bailey's and

Culmore communities. This is a very unique

opportunity and we're very excited to be having

so many youths from the community involved. We've

partnered with George Mason University School of Art

and the Mason District Police Station in

identifying youth from throughout the Bailey's,

Wilston and Culmore communities who developed

art that speak to what they envision for their future

community. And so those will serve as the starting

points for the dialogue discussion tonight. So I

came up with the idea that everybody likes tv better

in color. I just thought that our community needs to

be more accepting towards other cultures and their

customs then in would be kind of like black and

white and nobody would intertwined. But then if

your community had a lot of races, a lot of cultures, a

lot of acceptance, then it would be colorful and

everybody would be a lot happier. If you look at two

words‚ "community and dialogue" dialogue is at

least two people talking to one another. When you

expand that to the community, you get more

people thinking about the same thing, sometimes

giving different opinions, you get the demographics,

you get the culture, you get old and young, and you

get all those ideas going at the same time. Some of

them you can agree with, some of them you might not

agree with, but without community dialogue, without

somebody starting the conversation, we'll never

move forward. It was really fun getting to know new

people, getting to introduce to new ideas, and

coming up with ideas that you get to share with

others. It's real important to listen to the

kids, because they're our leaders of tomorrow.
