Waching daily May 8 2017

At the Lamb's high feast we sing Praise to our victorious King,

Who has washed us in the tide Flowing from His piercèd side. Alleluia!

Praise we Him, whose love divine Gives His sacred blood for wine,

Gives His body for the feast— Christ the victim, Christ the priest. Alleluia!

Where the paschal blood is poured, Death's dread angel sheathes the sword,

Israel's hosts triumphant go Through the wave that drowns the foe. Alleluia!

Praise we Christ, whose blood was shed, Paschal victim, paschal bread;

With sincerity and love Eat we manna from above. Alleluia!

Mighty Victim from the sky, Hell's fierce pow'rs beneath You lie;

You have conquered in the fight, You have brought us life and light. Alleluia!

Now no more can death appall, Now no more the grave enthrall;

You have opened paradise, And Your saints in You shall rise. Alleluia!

Easter triumph, Easter joy! This alone can sin destroy;

From sin's pow'r, Lord, set us free, Newborn souls in You to be. Alleluia!

Father, who the crown shall give, Savior, by whose death we live,

Spirit, guide through all our days: Three in One, Your name we praise. Alleluia!

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau: We need libraries becuase knowledge is power! - Duration: 0:42.

There is a lot of talk about what's real, what's fake news.

What we have to do, all of us, which is so important, is that we have to educate ourselvs.

And that's why we have libraries, knowledge.

Knowledge is power and to solve these huge issues that we face, we need knowledge.

So that's why libraries are so important.

Thank you.

National Safety Stand Down Week - Duration: 1:46.

(Music)

OSHA's National Safety Stand Down is a voluntary

program where employers and employees can

get together and talk about safety hazards

particularly fall hazards.

The National Safety Stand Down is usually in May

and this year its May 8th through the 12th.

OSHA basically noticed that falls are the number

one fatality relating to construction workers

So focusing on fall prevention and noticing

fall hazards is really important to OSHA.

There is a number of ways you can get involved

with OSHA's National Stand Down.

You can talk to your local OSHA office or you can

download material from federal OHSA's website.

They have some great posters and handouts

and stickers to give all of your employees letting

them know how to stay safe on the job site.

With OSHA's National Stand Down that's coming

up in May there's going to be a wide verity

of activities, so if you don't have an activity

scheduled at your job site you may see one

down the street, so please get involved and

have your employees get involved.

Fall hazards are everywhere.

We can go from OSHA's definition of a hole,

which is two inches to a multi-story building.

So I am hoping the tidbits that were going

to talk about today are going to give you

a lot of great information relating to fall

hazards as it pertains to rooftops, scaffolds,

ladders and ultimately equipment.

ACTA ASTRONAUTICA WE ARE NOT READY FOR CONTACT WITH EXTRATERREST - Duration: 6:00.

ACTA ASTRONAUTICA: 'WE ARE NOT READY FOR CONTACT WITH EXTRATERRESTRIAL INTELLIGENCE

Are humans ready to make contact with alien intelligence?

Project scientists at SETI are known for tracking what may be extra-terrestrial signals, but

now it looks as though they are thinking about sending messages to aliens and giving them

the position of humans of Earth.

But are humans ready for making contact with aliens?

RESEARCHER ASKS STUDENTS WHETHER THEY ARE READY TO GREET ALIEN LIFEFORMS

One researcher from the Spains University of Cadiz has questioned the idea after gathering

results from a survey taken by students at the University, which revealed ignorance in

general about the cosmos along with the influence of religion when it comes to dealing with

these matters.

The SETI project, Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence was an initiative that started

out in the 70s after funding was given from NASA.

Today it has evolved to the collaboration of many millions of users on the internet

for processing data from the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico, home to the space tracking.

STEPHEN HAWKING WARNS OF RISKS OF SENDING OUT EARTH INVITATION TO ALIENS

The project is controversial.

However, members want to go a step further and not only search for possible signs of

extra-terrestrial life but send messages out from Earth to try to find possible alien civilizations.

Stephen Hawking, astrophysicists, has warned about the risks of making such a search poses

for humanity, as it may favor any arrival of aliens with technology that is advanced

and dubious intentions.

Gabriel G. De la Torre, a professor at the University of Cadiz, has analyzed the sociological

and ethical implications of the proposal to send out a signal telling alien lifeforms

where Earth and humans are located.

He asked if a decision such as this could be taken on behalf of the planet.

He went on to ask what might happen if it was a success and alien life did receive the

signal, would the people on Earth be ready for contact.

STUDY REVEALED HUMANS ARE NOT READY FOR CONTACT WITH ALIENS The professor wrote and sent out

a questionnaire to 116 university students of American, Spanish and Italian origin.

The survey looked into their knowledge of astronomy along with levels of perception

of the physical environment, the opinions of the place that things occupy in the cosmos

along with religious questions.

One question posed asked whether the students believed that God had in fact created the

universe and the likelihood that humans could contract alien lifeforms.

The results, published in the journal Acta Astronautica, from the study suggested

that humans are not ready to contact an extra-terrestrial civilization as they lack knowledge along

with being unprepared.

Due to this SETI researchers have been recommended to look for different strategies.

This pilot study demonstrates that the knowledge of the general public of a certain

education level about the cosmos and our place within it is still poor.

Therefore, a cosmic awareness must be further promoted where our mind is increasingly

conscious of the global reality that surrounds us using the best tool available to us:

education, De la Torre emphasised.

In this respect, we need a new Galileo to lead this journey.

It was said that the pilot study had shown that the general publics knowledge of a

certain education level when it came to the cosmos and the place of humans within it,

was poor.

Cosmic awareness needs to be promoted further where the human mind is conscious of the global

reality that is surrounding us, using the best tool that is available, which is education

De la Torre said.

It was found from the questions asked, which are going to be made available for everyone

on the internet, that university students along with the rest of society, on the whole,

lacks awareness about astronomical aspects, despite the progress of technology and science

of today.

It was said that many people think about the subjects based on religious beliefs and they

may reply on politicians if there was a big crisis on a global scale that needed resolving.

So it does look like the people on Earth are not ready to welcome alien civilizations with

open arms, even if SETI were

to find them.

Notes on "Just Another Love Poem" - Duration: 1:28.

The poem "Just Another Love Poem" is basically a catharsis directed toward a beloved.

The plot features several hyperboles.

The first hyperbole is that I don't need to listen to music because you are music, your eyerolls are violins,

and your flirtations are literally piano-playing.

The second hyperbole is that the tide goes across the beach just as wide as I open up,

and the grains of sand originated from my rock-hard heart that you scattered across the shores.

Third, we row on a clock across the sea of time, imagining an island where we could love a second time.

For the rest of the poem, I am heartbroken by your uncertainty - weighing your wants

as I boldly declare that my heart outweighs all the pounds.

You don't care, preferring instead to follow the sea as is conventional.

My broken heart crashes and then breaks through the floor that it crashed upon, going deeper in despair

and ending up falling in love again.

The grass blades on the ground give me wings to fly again.

Higher I go to loving each other everlastingly

as the sun and moon move across one another, so do we.

The poem circles back to the beginning assertion that I don't need to hear the poem/expression.

Instead of continuing the poem/catharsis, I ask you straight-up, "Why don't we?"

Notes on "Summer Dream" - Duration: 0:57.

The poem "Summer Dream" has a plot consisting of four inspirational comments.

First, as you get up every morning trapped in another dream, you can always wake up

and jump out of one dream into another, upward through life, which has no limits.

Second, the key is not meant to open a treasure chest filled with gold.

Rather, the key is meant to free your mind and realize the wealth within.

Third, you are perfect regardless of your background, be it racially based, gender-based, or religion-based.

A light brighter or dimmer would ruin your color.

A stretch vertically or horizontally would ruin your shape.

The last thought is related to the beginning dream, as you are stuck in wintertime, which is a snow globe.

But if you look outward, someone is shaking the snow in adoration of you and will someday crack it open

and everything will become summer.

Notes on "Baby, Come Here Tonight" - Duration: 1:47.

The poem "Baby, Come Here Tonight" is Gothic-themed.

The setting is a graveyard at nighttime.

There are three characters, two of which are stock characters: the Devil and the jester.

The third character is you.

The plot involves seducing you over to death.

In the beginning, sunlight streams on the graveyard,

where the Devil imposes as a stone angel in wait for the sun to go out.

Thrilled, the Devil casts aside the wings and dons horns.

The Devil dances to open graves of resurrected corpses, including the jester.

The jester digs a grave for you.

In response, you run away, only to be trapped by the approaching jester,

who informs you that your heart will wear out in a matter of years due to the tears eroding the vigor.

The jester suggests death as a superior alternative to life, which is personified as running to a higher place,

where the Devil gives out tickets associated with various sins.

Then, the Earth splits and you fall through the cracks, barely clinging to life, literally and figuratively,

as your mind snaps. Any attempt at tugging only unravels your mind further to oblivion.

You fall into a vat of blood that is yours, as a result of cutting your veins or committing suicide,

which is sweeter than love, personified as running to a higher place toward death.

The plot ends with the image of the jester singing "Baby, come here tonight," having won you over.

What is Stockton SOUP? - Duration: 2:00.

Not only is Stockton SOUP a great way

for good projects to receive funding,

but I also feel like it's a great event

to connect people in the community.

It's super simple, it's literally people come from Stockton

who want to do things in Stockton,

but need a little bit of funding,

and the community gets around them, hears what they want to do, and says

"I'd love to get on board with that, I'd love to support that"

[MUSIC] "I need a dollar, a dollar, a dollar is what I need"

So at Stockton SOUP we start off with some live music,

then we have our projects come up and give a four minute pitch

and tell us about why we should vote for their project.

Each pitch on an evening will leave with a certain percentage of the overall funds.

It's not that one person gets all the money, everyone can get some money,

it just depends how the people in the room feel about it.

After the pitches we get our SOUP, we get a chance to vote for our favourite project,

we enjoy some more live music

and at the end of the night we make the announcement for the votes

Coming from a very small community organisation,

where we just set it up voluntarily,

there's not a lot of places we can go to

for funding, so to come to something like this,

where you can pitch your idea and hopefully get people inspired about what your doing

and go home with some money that's for me a perfect recipe for a community event

There's something quite special at SOUP

because everyone in the room cares,

they care about the community, they care about their area and they want to make a difference.

Stockton SOUP isn't just for people that have got an idea,

it isn't just for people involved in the community, it's for anyone.

If you live in Stockton, if you've heard of Stockton, if you care about Stockton

come along, meet people, get involved.

We're here at the ARC 6:30 on a Wednesday night.

We meet every other month, all our dates are on Facebook
