John and Maria Attend Group Therapy for Sexual Abuse Survivors | Book of John Gray | OWN - Duration: 2:41.

At the age of 16, I went into the military.

I went in with this thing that I was going

to do good and have structure, you know,

and make my momma proud, you know?

But I just wasn't expecting the things that happened to me--

being sexually abused in basic training, the repeated

sexual trauma, having my innocence stolen from me,

taken from me--

Taken from you against your will.

--against my will.

So I went throughout my whole life,

you know, with this guilt. Because they told us,

you know, we better not tell anybody,

or else it was going to ruin our life,

you know, I was going to get a dishonorable discharge.

Well, there you go.

And you know, nobody would want to hire you.

You couldn't get a job nowhere in the civilian world.

You know, your life was going to be ruined.

Heard that.

Send you back where you came from.

Right.

And so at the same time, I developed

trust issues that I couldn't trust anybody,

you know, especially men.

You know, I tried marriage.

And that didn't work out.

I'm afraid to be with anybody else.

And I can't get close to anybody intimately.

I got to do something about this.

I have the same--

OK.

--situation.

For almost 20 years I felt guilty that I

was raped in the military.

I couldn't look at myself in the mirror.

That shame that you talked about, I understand.

And you're going to find someone that's

looking for a stable, happy relationship.

I pray for that. 'Cause they're going to have to really

be an understanding person.

If you start loving yourself, you're going to find that love.

I promise you that.

I hope to talk to you more about our experiences.

Yes.

And you will get to that point where you're going to be

so proud that you overcame.

Yes, that's what I want.

And let me tell you one more thing.

I'm thankful that it happened to me.

Because I help a lot of people.

I get messages almost on a daily basis that says,

you helped me out.

Olga actually says she was glad it happened.

Now she has a strength she didn't know she had.

She has a power she didn't know she had.

Those are key components that I believe Maria needs

in order to finally be free.

I believe that there are times when God will put his hands

on a person, and the light on them

is so great that the enemy will go

after them to stop them before they become

what they're supposed to be. - Yes.

Yes, exactly.

There's people like, be careful what you say,

'cause the devil can hear you. I don't care if he can hear me.

I want him to hear me.

'Cause I want him to hear this--

I survived.

English for Russian Speakers 30 - difference between 'except' and 'besides' (with subtitles) - Duration: 2:39.

Hi again, and welcome to 'One English Tip in One Minute for Russian Speakers' where

every week I talk about, in detail, one common English mistake made by Russian

speakers as they try to learn English... and this is video number 30.

Yet again, good for you for trying to master English. Yet again, the way this works

is that I post a slide, and on the slide there are two sentences:

One is the correct way that a native English speaker would say it, the other

is the wrong way that a Russian speaker might say it. You have to decide which

one is correct. Read these sentences now, think about the answer,

pause the video if you have to and I will discuss the answer in the slide that follows this slide.

So if you go this wrong or you had trouble with this,

it simply means that you need to start studying it. To get you started in

the right direction,

I've given you three sentences that you can study from. Study these sentences,

drill them into your head and put them into practice through speaking or

writing...and try to learn outside of this video as well.

Just a few quick things. First, if you liked the video I hope you'll click

on the thumbs up below. Second, as these videos come out like clockwork at

the same time every week I hope you'll subscribe to my channel. Third, I have an

online course called '50 Common English mistakes' and that costs the equivalent of

20 years -- but for viewers of these videos it costs 10, so you get a half off

discount...so I hope you'll think about that. Fourth, I'm continuously developing

my website so please go check that out. Finally, my Twitter feed is

@epicenglishtips so I give English tips in Twitter form. So please follow me on

Twitter. All the information is in the description box below. That's it.

Thank you for watching, and see you next week.
