Driving Rules for House Cleaners and Maids - Duration: 7:11.
Hey there, I'm Angela Brown and this is Ask a House Cleaner.
This is a show where you get to ask a house cleaning question,
and I get to help you find an answer.
Well, today's question is an ugly question.
There's just no way around it, but it's an ugly question.
And it comes from a house cleaner we're going to call Kathy.
Kathy and Bonnie are in the car.
Bonnie and Kathy work together and it's Kathy's car.
So Bonnie is driving Kathy's car.
They're leaving a customer's house and they back out of the driveway and into a neighbor's car.
Now Kathy is questioning me, she says "It's my car that got smashed,
it's Bonnie that's driving.
Is Bonnie supposed to pay for the damage to my car and the other car, or is it my insurance
that is supposed to pay for the damage to the other person's car?
This is just confusing to me, what am I supposed to do?"
Okay, so the answer to that question is, whoever's car it is, that is who is going to pay for
the damage.
So, Kathy if it's your car that smashed into the neighbor's car, your insurance is going
to pay for the neighbor's car and it's going to pay for your car.
I'm sorry, there's no good way around that.
Now, if it comes to a certain amount of money and you want to bill Bonnie for that, or if
you have to have your insurance rates go up because you took the deduction, sometimes
they'll jack your rates up.
They'll add points onto that and they'll jack your rates up.
You may want to ask her to pay the difference.
So, if it's $500 more per year for your car insurance because
she backed into the neighbor's car.
You may want to see if she'll pay the $500 difference that is going to affect your insurance.
So, I don't like the question because it is really sticky.
But it does come down to a couple of things.
Number one, please don't let anyone else drive your car.
If you're driving your car, you have complete control over how you drive.
But if someone else is driving your car, they could be more reckless than you.
I'm not sure how she didn't see the car on the other side of the street.
But if you're driving out of someone's house, you should look with the eyes, and say "Oh,
yes, there's a car there.
I should make sure that I don't back into it."
Now that we're talking about driving,
there are a couple of driving etiquette tips for house cleaners.
And right now, I find that it's a very good chance for me to tell these to you so that
it doesn't sound like I'm whining.
Housecleaners have a tendency to be in a hurry.
We have deadlines we're supposed to meet, and we have a tendency to always rush around
because we are always in a hurry.
We work fast, we get to the next house fast and we deliver our services
in a very efficient manner.
However, that rule does not apply to driving.
When you are zipping through a neighborhood at 50 miles an hour, and the speed limit is
25 miles an hour, there may not be a policeman that is in that neighborhood waiting for you.
However, there are small children.
There are kids at school bus stops.
There are pedestrians out walking their dog.
And when they see the house cleaner come flying through a neighborhood at maximum speed they
get on the phone really quickly and they call the number that is on the car or on the magnet.
They say "Listen, there were house cleaners speeding through my neighborhood today and
that is not safe."
So, it's a really bad advertisement for your business when you don't drive safely.
Another thing I have to mention are neighborhood stop signs.
They are there for a reason.
And it is a law that you stop at them.
And so, if you're driving through a neighborhood and there are stop signs, and you just blow
right on through...
We had a house cleaner do this about four months ago.
She just skipped a stop sign, she's in a neighborhood, but skipped a stop sign and because she was
in a super big hurry.
And as she sped through the stop sign, she ran right into a UPS truck.
And it was completely her fault because she did not stop.
There are times, and I know we're in a hurry.
We are not too in a hurry to drive safely.
And by that I also mean, don't roll your windows down and have your music blaring at 200 decibels.
That's just obnoxious.
If you see somebody speeding through your neighborhood and you know the booming is so
loud, and there's just blaring music, that's wow.
Just not a good example for your business.
So, if you're in a hurry.
And we always are.
When you get inside your car, (deep breath)
I invite you to take a really deep breath.
And just calm down.
Slow it down.
Realize that you saved yourself enough time to get from here to the next house safely.
Because if you arrive at the next house and you arrive quietly and on time and with composure,
you bring that mood into people's homes.
"Hi, I'm here to help clean your house and make your life better."
But when you show up and you're stressed out and you've rushed around, you're anxious
and you're trying to get there on time - Whoa!
You come off as being really intense.
And that is not what people are paying for.
They're not paying for intense, stressed out, anxiety filled house cleaners.
So, if you will slow it down.
And when you're backing out the driveway, the rule of thumb is 2 miles per hour.
2 miles per hour.
If you will back out slowly, you're not run into any people walking by with dogs.
You're not going to run into any other cars.
You're going to be able to go slow enough that you can check what's behind you.
Because it's unfortunate that Kathy has to now pay this bill for an accident that Bonnie
was in while she was driving Kathy's car.
Because we know Kathy would never have driven that way herself, right?
We don't know that but we can always hope.
And so that would be my suggestion.
So, you are sending a message even in your car as a house cleaner.
It's part of your business.
So, if you arrive a couple minutes early, you arrive on time, you're calm, you're well
put together, you can avoid accidents.
And you can avoid the anxiety that you bring into people's homes.
So, Kathy, I'm so sorry that this happened to you.
This is really unfortunate.
And I'm really hoping, and I'm sure you are, but I'm really hoping that you are fully insured
so that your car insurance will pay for the damage on both of those cars.

After lengthy debates regarding the prevalence of "Lolita" themed photo shoots in the music industry, netizens decided to focus instead on the photographer responsible for many of the controversial issues rather than the artists starring in them.
Of the controversial photos, a large proportion were taken by a photographer who goes by the name of rotta.

Mahal is one of the biggest tourist attractions in the world because of its architecture and
beauty. The Taj Mahal is located in a city named Agra located in the northern state of
Uttar Pradesh, India. A Mughal Emperor named Shah Jahan ordered the building of the Taj
Mahal. The reason he wanted the Taj Mahal to be built was as a mausoleum to lay his
wife to rest after she had died. Shah Jahan was a member of the Mughal Dynasty and they
ruled Northern India from the 16th century to the 18th century. It was in 1628, that
Shah Jahan crowned himself the emperor after battling with many of his siblings to take
control as emperor. Although Shah Jahan had multiple wives he did have a favorite. Her
name was Arjumand Banu Begum, better known as Mumtaz Mahal meaning, "The chosen one of
the palace." In 1631 she passed away while giving birth to their 14th child. This is
where Shah Jahan knew he had to do something and the idea for the impressive Mausoleum
came to mind. The construction began in 1632, but it would take over 20 years to complete
the Taj Mahal. For example, there was so much work to be done that it took over 20,000 workers
with many elephants that were brought in to build the Taj Mahal. Today millions of people
travel from around the world to see this marvelous structure. But, that is all from me and I
