Do You Know How Long A Second Is? -- DONG - Duration: 4:50.

Boom...microphone. Hey. My name is Michael Stevens and I'm not just about goofs and gags. I'm also here to talk about DONGs.

And that should be a relief because last week Jake was here trying to get $3,000,000 out of you for nothing.

I however, will make you payfornothing.club a possibly overpriced DONG, something you can do online

now guys.

Get better at feeling time by practicing your ability to guess the length of a second with clicclock.

The goal is to click ten times and leave exactly one second between each of your clicks.

If it gives you a positive value, you need to be quicker but a negative value indicates

that you didn't give enough time.

Sweet, I took way too long with all of my clicks!

Jason Davies Voroni diagram shows you the locations of airports around Earth.

As well as the regions around them containing places on Earth for which they are the nearest airport.

Check out the most remote point on Earth from any airport.

It's 76 degrees south and 68 degrees East.

The most remote airport is 27 degrees south and 109 degrees west.

Unfortunately you can't hope on a plane to

Journey to the Center of the Earth but you can use this DONG.

Along the way you'll see the depths of different things under the surface of the land and water.

For example .7 meters beneath the surface is where rabbit warrens and mole burrows can

be found.

5 meters is the depth of an olympic swimming pool.

At 85 meters there is an underground city.

Finally 3,958 miles, down. About 6,370 km you will reach the core.

Jean Pierre can't help but smile.

This isn't related to the last DONG but it is related to your face.

First trace these lines to see the variation of expressions he can show like shock.

Then use your webcam to make faces and watch as he mimics them.

He's looking pretty relaxed right now, probably due to the beautiful music you're playing

on

Strings, a site that demonstrates the relationship between a string's length

and pitch.

But most importantly it's just fun and you can produce sweet melodies like this.

What in the world is that noise interrupting my music?!

Oh.

A bad car battery.

On mycarmakesnoise.com you can better understand what different sounds indicate when your car

needs fixing.

Once you identify where the noise is coming from like, under the hood, outside the car,

or under the car, you can select the category and listen to an array of noises.

A vaccum hose leak sounds like this.

What a win-win situation. That wasn't a pun. It was just me demonstrating why I deserve

the award for most confusing use of the expression "win-win."

It's an Arbitrary Award.

Type in your name and receive the most personalized and highest honor of all time.

I am the Jaywalker with the most Swag.

I do have a lot of swag but I'm definitely not a criminal.

Is there an award for being super talented at

99 Balls?

In this game you have to knock out each ball in the designated number of turns.

If you shoot and collect one of these rings, you'll get an extra weapon which in turn

helps you hit more balls.

As you advance, the number of hits it takes to get rid of each one increases just like

your love for puzzles on

Socketu.

Match the colored squares to their containers.

The arrow keys are what steer them and the space bar rotates the U-shapes.

Now let's shape U into an even more powerful human with this

Bonus DONG as promised last week.

Muscle Wiki shows you the muscle groups in the front and back of your body.

Choose one, and it will give you exercises to complete that work those muscles.

You can tell I use the website a lot because of my amazing muscles.

A lot of this though comes from lifting the Curiosity Box. If you got the new one you may have seen the elements

book that came inside. It's a real beauty and a really big book. But enough about learning about elements. I'm sure you'd rather spell with them.

Well luckily there's a DONG for that. Recommended to us on our DONG twitter account by Hungry Maxzilla.

Spelling with elements. This site allows you to type in a word and it will try to spell that word using only

the symbols on the periodic table.

Clicking on the element will take you to its wikipedia page which is awesome.

But of course there aren't enough letters used in atomic symbols to spell any possible word.

Check this site out. Learn about elements. And learn what letters still need to be assigned to elements

So we can spell more things. Hopefully you'll be the one to discover those elements.

Subscribe to DONG if you aren't already. Watch a playlist of DONGs if you want more DONGs. And as always, thanks for watching.

The Hugo Boss Prize 2016: Anicka Yi, Life Is Cheap - Duration: 3:53.

ANICKA YI: I'm working with an anxiety, for sure.

You're dealing with a society

that is overly obsessed with cleanliness.

And that's partially why

I do work with bacteria as a material.

Especially in the West,

we have this morbid fear of pungent aromas,

of bacteria.

I'm giving a kind of visualization to people's anxieties

about all the germs and bacteria

that are proliferating all around us.

This is a climate-controlled room.

They'll be lined with these tiles

that are coated in the agar

and then we will swab the agar with the bacteria.

And then create this sort of hothouse in there

for them to grow and create this ecosystem

that is fluctuating from hour to hour,

day by day, week by week.

There has been considerable experimentation and

research that we've been doing

up at the lab at Columbia with the biologists

to try to encourage certain bacterial growth over others,

in tandem with some aesthetic considerations.

Because bacteria is really beautiful

and it has different kinds of color,

different kinds of shapes,

so I'm interested in formal aspects of the bacteria.

I'm fascinated by ants because of their social structure,

which are so similar to human beings.

In the ant diorama we have this large circuit board pattern

with ten thousand living ants

doing their industrious work.

Ants have social caste systems.

They are the only species other than humans

that practice slavery.

They're just a very complex, fascinating creature

so I thought this can teach us things about ourselves.

One of the senses that I've been most fascinated by

is our sense of smell.

I wanted to create a scent that is pretty powerful

in terms of evoking perceptions,

empathy, associations. A sort of hybrid

between the scent of an Asian American female

with that of an ant.

It was important for me to create the scent

and foreground a certain particular demographic

and identity in America.

Once these scent molecules go into your body

hopefully that will open you up

to this kind of experience,

through this sort of hybrid entity.

It's very important for me to foreground

this relationship between power and culture

and perception through the senses.

I think as an artist it's part of my job

trying to render visible the source of our discomfort

and our anxieties and our intolerance.

ANYTHING BUT BOOKS TAG! - Duration: 7:32.

Hi everyone, it's Sandy and today I'm doing

the Anything But Books Tag. This tag was

created by Katie from Reader Rot and I

was tagged by Jane from ItsJaneLindsey.

I have been wanting to do this tag for a

really long time so thank you Jane for

tagging me. I like how this is a non

book-related tag video and it's a great

way for you guys to get to know me a

little bit more. The first question is to

name a cartoon that you love. I'm not

really interested in cartoons at this

point in my life so I'm going to talk

about the cartoons that I loved when I

was younger. I love Barbie, Winx Club,

Powerpuff Girls. I'm not sure if all of

them are like considered cartoons, maybe

there's like a different term for them.

And those are a few that I really loved

when I was younger. The next question is

what is your favorite song right now and

I'm not really a music person. I don't

listen to a lot of music. A lot of the

music that I do listen to are probably like

very mainstream and I'm sure most of you

know what they are. Basically a lot of

the pop songs on the radios are songs

that I would listen to but one song that

I've really been loving lately is called

Hold On by Chord Overstreet. So basically

about a month and a half ago, the Vampire

Diaries had its very last episode - its

series finale - and this is one of the

songs that was featured in that episode.

Honestly, I can't think of a more perfect

song for that series finale. It played at

the most perfect timing and the lyrics

are just perfect for what happened and

every time I hear that song, it gets me

so emotional. The Vampire Diaries have

been one of my favorite shows for so

long. I started that show when I was in

like seventh or eighth grade. The show

was currently in the middle of season

two when I started it. I watched that

show throughout high school. It was one

of the shows where I would just sit down

on my couch, turn on the TV, and watch as

it aired. The Vampire Diaries just has a

special place in my heart and that song

makes me so emotional and I want to cry

every time I listen to it. And you know

how some people on YouTube make like

music videos of TV shows? I've watched a

few Vampire Diaries music videos that

have this song in it and they're just so

beautiful and I really want to cry every

time I watch it. I'm just going off on a

tangent on how much I love Vampire

Diaries. I know like some people have

like stopped watching it because it's just

not as good anymore. I thought the last

season was pretty good. I still miss Elena.

I feel like a lot of people don't like

Elena's character but I really loved her.

I love Nina Dobrev and I was really

happy to see her back in the series

finale. Anyways, I've been talking about

that show for a while now so let's move

on to the third question. The third

question is what could you do for hours

that isn't reading? This is a really

basic answer but I could honestly watch

youtube videos or be on Netflix all day.

The fourth question is what is something

that you love to do that your followers

would be surprised by? I don't think this

is really surprising but I really love

watching cooking and baking videos on

YouTube. But the thing is, I don't

actually make the food items of the

videos that I watch. I just like watching

it and seeing like the final product.

Watching those videos make me really

hungry but I'm too lazy to go through

all of that and honestly with like

cooking videos, I live at home, so my dad

does all the cooking, so it's not really

necessary for me to cook. Another thing

that I really like to do is I like to

play tennis and badminton. I'm not very good

at them but I really enjoy playing them.

I was on the tennis team in high school

and I was surrounded by a bunch of

friends that were also on the team and

it was just so much fun. The fifth

question is what is your favorite

unnecessary specific thing to learn

about? Honestly, I have no answer for this.

I can't think of anything so I'm just

gonna pass on this question. The sixth

question is what is something unusual

that you know how to do? I don't know if

this is impressive or not but I know how

to say the alphabet backwards.

I learned it backwards when I was in

high school. I was just bored one day and

I decided why not, so I now have it

memorized backwards and it actually came

in handy one time. This is me going off

on a tangent but it has to do with like

drunk driving, and no, I do not drink and

drive. I don't even drink but one of

the sobriety tests is knowing how to

say the alphabet backwards, which makes

no sense because I know a lot of people

that don't know how to say it backwards

when they're sober so how can someone

who's drunk say the alphabet backwards...? I

don't understand that logic but anyways,

in my driver's ed class when I was a

sophomore in high school, my teacher

brought in this goggle that distorts

your vision. It's supposed to mimic your

vision when you're drunk. He was passing

it around and calling people to like

come up in front of the class to try it

out and I volunteered to do it because I

was really interested in it and then he

started giving me like sobriety tests

and one of the things he told me is to

say the alphabet backwards, so I said it

backwards, and my classmates were pretty

surprised about that, so yeah... and if you

don't believe me well, here it is.

ZYXWVUTSRQPONMLKJIHGFEDCBA

The seventh question is to name

something that you've made in the last

year. Something that I made last year is

this Harry Potter canvas. I was contacted

by Maureen to participate in Harry

Christmas to You and I said yes and I

actually filmed myself doing a DIY on

this canvas. I will leave a link to that

video in the description box below. I

also made a butter beer milkshake, which

was pretty dang good, so definitely check

out that video if you haven't seen it

already. The next question is what is

your most recent personal project? I

don't know if this counts but I've been

journaling lately. This is the journal

that I'm using. I was inspired to start

journaling after watching Whitney from

whittynovels journal flip through. My

journal is definitely nowhere close to

the aesthetic of Whitney's journal. I

basically just glue random stuff in my

journal. I don't write in my journal as

often as I want to just because I've

been really busy with school so I don't

have time to like sit down and journal.

Once school is over, I definitely hope to

journal more often during the summer

because I got a lot of fun plans coming

up in the summer, one being going to BookCon. Also, in case you're wondering, I got

this journal from Michaels. Michaels is

like the best place ever. Every time I go

to Michael's, I like never want to

leave. This journal is like six dollars

at Michaels, so it's pretty inexpensive.

Number nine is to tell something that

you think about often and honestly, I

think about school a lot. Mainly because

I am a full time student

so I constantly think about school, all

the things that I need to do, all the

things I have to study for, all the things

I have to write and read. School is

definitely a lot and I also think about

food a lot. I'm such a foodie, I mean who

isn't? I love going out and eating with

my friends. A lot of the money that I

spend is either on books or food. Like I

spend so much money on food, especially

whenever I hang out with my friends, we

always go eat somewhere, so there goes

all my money. Number ten is to give us

something that's your favorite but make

it oddly specific. An example that was

included is like your favorite food when

you've been studying for hours. Something

that's my favorite and that's oddly

specific are mangoes.

I love mangoes but there are like

different types of mangoes. There's like

the red mango and then there's that

yellow mango. I don't know like if

there's like a specific name for those

two mangoes, but I'm just naming it by

color, so like a reddish greenish mangoes

and then the yellow mangoes, which is

like smaller than the red one.

And I absolutely love the yellow one. I

don't really like the red one. I

personally don't think it tastes as good

as the yellow one. Mangoes are one of my

favorite fruits and I love the yellow

mango. I love how sweet it is. I'll still eat

the red mangoes but I will 100 times

prefer to eat the yellow mangoes, so yeah,

that's something oddly specific about me.

I'm definitely really interested in what your

mango preference is, do you prefer the

red mango or the yellow mango? Let me

know. Lastly, say the first thing that

pops into your head...

Books. Yeah. That's it. Those are all the

questions for this tag. Thank you so much

for watching. I hope you enjoy it and I

will see you next time. Bye!

Cost of Living: Hang Out With the Cast! - Duration: 3:16.

Hey, I'm Martyna Majok and I'm drinking.

I also wrote 'Cost Of Living'.

And these are my friends who are in it.

Coming at this as a performer

with a disability.

The thing I love so much about this play

is that it really is about relationships.

And it is about people trying to deal

with each other

through this lens,

of their personal experiences with

their bodies the way that they are.

You know I play a PHD doctoral student

Who has severe C.P...

C.P. is?

C.P. is cerebral palsy.

We meet because of, out of this very

transactional need, I need to hire someone.

And I need money.

That's right!

I need money I'm having a rough patch in my life,

I'm all alone, and this is how we meet.

From our, kind of, end of things,

It's a relationship that has marriage

but they're separated, Eddie and Ani

and after that happens,

Ani is in a really bad car accident

and it is at that point that

Eddie tries to re-insert himself in to her life.

At some point when life like

blind sides us, I know for myself

we tend to get more introspective.

But the reality is that people need people.

There's nothing bad about needing someone.

I think we all need someone.

One of my favorite lines in the play

that really spoke to me

was the line you have about:

You have to take your arms and your legs

and throw yourself at what you want.

And I just, for me, what the play holds a lot.

It's a great American story.

You know, what's different and innovative is who's telling it.

Right? And what those people look like

their backgrounds, where they come from,

and I think that that's awesome.

Right, it's also not a pity party.

It's like these characters are very unapologetic.

In that, you should walk out into the world too and sort of

be compassionate, and be empathetic.

But you can also be unapologetic.

Play writing in general I guess is to like,

for me, to show what the world is

which is not what i've always experienced.

It's coming to the country, and living in working class Jersey.

And like, not having money.

Those stories weren't available to me always.

Or not in a way that I thought was truthful.

Getting to genuinely portray people

who are not normal or pefect

their bodies are broken.

But, at the end of the day

it's sort of the people that aren't broken

that kind of need more of the support.

To me, just being able to see

these bodies on stage is ground breaking.

I hope that people walk away feeling like

they've seen a slice of humanity

that they haven't before.

And then to that...

The Price Tag on These Destroyed Sneakers is F*cking Insane - Duration: 2:04.

What's good guys?!

Beija here for Complex!

The fashion industry is whilin' lately.

On April 26, Nordstrom dropped a pair of mud-covered jeans, retailing for $425.

Reebok mocked the high-end retailer by creating a sweat-stained tee that was selling for $425,

like the mud jeans, obviously poking fun at Nordstrom.

Another example is this cerulean blue Balenciaga leather bag going for $2,145 that seemed to

be heavily influenced by the 99cent Ikea Shopping bag (show headline and collage of bags next

to each other).

This trend has since trickled into a hypebeast-wave of reconstructed Frakta bags into gas masks

and leading all the way to Ikea thongs.

There's also the brand Golden Goose.

They've been known for their scuffed up shoes with distressed laces and tape retailing

from $495 to $585.

People have argued that the brand is participating in what they call "poverty appropriation".

Golden Goose talked to US about them being proud of their products which highlight the

distressed look.

"The duct-tape reinforcements appearing on the [Distressed Superstar Sneakers] style

pay homage to the West Coast's skater culture — professional skaters, who inspired the

brand's shoe collections from the beginning, use to repair their shoes with the same kind

of tape."

Now Neiman Marcus and Margiela can be added to the list of this hyped craze.

The high-end department store dropped a Maison Margiela 'destroyed high-top sneaker'

in white and yellow retailing for $1,425.

The product description states that Margiela deconstructs their "Future" high-top sneaker

with heavy distressing.

(zoom into description) So wealthy people if you're too lazy to f*ck up your own shoes

no worries, Margiela's got you covered.

Margiela also has its pre-paint splattered sneakers retailing for only $595 if you want

something a little more affordable, but just as shitty.

Whether or not you consider this poverty appropriation or not, these high-fashion labels are obviously

heavily influenced by streetwear and the culture that surrounds it, but damn, maybe the brand's

are taking it one step too far.

That's all the news for now, but for more updates on expensive products inspired by

us everyday hardworking people, be sure to subscribe to Complex on Youtube today.

School is Dying - What's the Future of Education? - Duration: 3:05.

If school is dying, then what's the future of education?

Welcome back to CapOhTV, the channel where we know school is a joke and you don't want

to be the punchline.

If this is your first time here and you also think school is a joke and you want to take

back control of your education, then hit that subscribe button now.

I always here it said that school teachers reach so many people and change so many lives.

If you stop and think about it, your typical high school teacher on a block schedule reaches

maybe 150 students per year.

Over a 25 year teaching career, that's 3,750 student that that teach has come in contact

with.

And that's assuming no repeats.

Now let's consider a small YouTube channel like CapOhTV.

I've been working on this channel for about a year and a half now and so far the total

views are just under 67,000.

If we assume that a view is a person reached, that's almost 18 times the teach of a high

school teacher!

And unlike classroom instruction, a video keeps on reaching even when I'm not doing

anything!

Now, I'm not the first person to say it, but this may be the first time you've heard it:

the future of education is right here.

It's one teacher, one camera, and a very large number of students.

Chances are you already get an education this way.

If you don't know something, you Google it.

If you want to know how to do something, you look up a video tutorial.

You have been taught by literally hundreds of people if you know anything about the Internet.

You know and I know that school is a joke.

It can't keep up and it will fade away.

Your future opportunities are not in the traditional paths that school is preparing you for.

They're teaching you that the path to success is by going to college and taking on massive

amounts of debt in the form of student loans, car loans, and home loans, and then accepting

a crappy job unrelated to your college degree just so you can start paying off your debts.

But I think your opportunity is here on and around the Internet.

I'll say it again, school is a joke.

But I bet you have an idea or an experience or a message that you know other people will

find valuable.

There's something you have to share with the world.

But you won't learn what that is or how to do it in school.

It's built in the curriculum: sit down, be quiet, follow the rules.

Don't have an original thought.

Just memorize this other stuff instead because that's what's going to be on the test.

School is dying.

The paths that your parents took and my parents took are disappearing.

Your future and the future of education is right here online.

One teacher, one camera, and a huge classroom powered by the Internet.

If DNA Is Software, Who Wrote The Code?

Recently an article in SF Gate by Deepak Chopra and Pankaj S. Joshi, PhD Can There

Be a Science of Consciousness? had this amazing quote: By taking for granted

the obvious fact that it takes a mind to do science, weve reached the point where science

is leaving out the very component that might answer the questions that urgently need answering,

not because philosophy demands it but because science does.

As a longtime admirer of Deepaks work, I had reached out to him on several occasions

because I felt his most recent book, You Are the Universe, co-authored with Menas Kafatos,

PhD, resonated with my own ideas about the significance of sequencing (or decoding) DNA.

The mystery of DNA to me is as compelling a clue as the existence of the pyramids, precisely

because as someone who discovered computer programming late in life, I recognized in

its structure that it functions literally as an organic programming language.

This became apparent to me and affected me deeply after seeing a video by geneticist

Juan Enriquez on TED in which he says flatly an apple is an application; when the sun

hits it the program executes, and the apple falls from the tree.

In my own book, If DNA is Software, Who Wrote The Code?

The Profound Significance of Lifes Programming Language, I explain that software

(or computer code) has identical properties to DNA (and may be a stark example of inadvertent

biomimicry).

Extracting meaning from different symbols in this case A, C, T, and G, which represent

chemicals or proteins allowed scientists to resurrect extinct species by copying

and pasting DNA code
