Hey what's up we're X Ambassadors.
We're here at Play Da Record in Toronto
and this is the LP Spree.
Let's see what we can find here.
Oh my god!
Man!!
There's too many good records in here yo.
I already see some Duke Ellington and some Coltrane.
Some Ornette Coleman, some Alice Coltrane.
Some Donald Bird, some Dave Brubeck.
Woah!
This sextet at Newport '58
with Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley and Bill Evans.
That's the Kind Of Blue tour.
Oh wow!
Damn man!
Just hang onto it.
Yeah actually...that one's not to be passed up.
Man, I'm a drummer
To me, hip-hop is pop music.
That's what I grew up...you know I grew up in the 90's
late 80's - I was born in '87.
And I just love it!
Oh man!
So we've got Low End Theory here.
Anyone who knows, knows
it's one of the most classic hip-hop records of all time.
Definitely gonna put this in my stash.

Electric Warrior.
Have to fucking get that one.
The minute I heard Mambo Son
which is the first track on this record,
like the guitars and the drums
on that record
sound unlike anything else I've ever heard.
I've always wanted to try and emulate that drum
and guitar sound.
It's like...
Who does that song...ummm

Something "Glitter"...
Gary Glitter!
Like Gary Glitter and Norman Greenbaum
but like way better!
Man, I gotta get some Kanye.
Okay...
I'm pulling Kaney West, 808s & Heartbreak
A lot of people didn't like this record.
A lot of people would rank this
as their least favourite Kanye record
but it's up there with my favourites.
Really awesome production...
Really cool producers that were on this record
that went on to do really big things afterward.
There's also Dexter Blows Hot & Cool.
Oh that one I think I know...
Featuring Carl Perkins...
It's a great cover too.
Actually, I don't have any albums of his
in my collection
which I'm kind of ashamed of!
I also saw Horses by Patti Smith.
and I don't have this on vinyl yet.
I love Patti Smith
and I read the book
Because The Night is actually one of my favourites.
I know it's kind of lame
cause that was like her big hit
her top-40 hit
But I never really got a chance
to deeply listen to Horses
and it's one of the most important records ever made.
So I'm getting this on vinyl because
it hits me harder when I listen to it.
Oh...
Madvillain
This is MF DOOM and Madlib
I'm gonna pull this.
Ooh!
Gospel Singing at Newport.
The Drinkard Singers and The Back Home Choir.
I don't know either of these groups.
I consider myself a spiritual person
I don't know if I necessarily believe in one god

A celebration of being together, a lot of it is.
It's everyone being together, lifting their voices together.

Yeah, it's powerful.

Umm, there's Lights' record!
No way! Siberia?
No her new record called Skin & Earth.
She was the first person to ever take us out on tour!
We opened for her on our first tour ever.

So, shout out to her.
I feel like I should buy that one.

808s & Heartbreak

I think there is no worse Kanye record.
[ LAUGHTER]
And Madvillain which is
MF DOOM and Madlib's collaboration.
People don't know that...
well Madlib's obviously one of the best producers of all time.
MF DOOM is an equally amazing producer.
And usually makes all of his beats himself.
But on this record it's him and Madlib.
In A Silent Way. Classic.
One of the first electric jazz albums that I really fell in love with.
Live In Berlin.
This I can't believe I found.
This has got one of my favourite live recordings of John Coltrane
and Eric Dolphy I've ever listen to!
This I can't believe we found.
I love Robert Glasper and or course love Miles Davis.
I had no idea he did a whole interpretation of
a lot of Miles' music.
I can't even tell you how incredible a find that is.
And Dexter Gordon's one of my favourite sax players.
I don't actually have any vinyls of his.
And this is just one of his classic albums.
This is a great one.
And this is an extra one!
Yeah!
Couldn't resist!
This is the Kind of Blue tour, essentially.
Probably the best selling jazz album of all time.
And this is how they toured it live yo.
This is a gospel record from The Newport Jazz Festival.
I don't know either of these artists
but I'm very excited to listen to it.
T. Rex, Electric Warrior.
I love this record. I love Mark Bolan.
The opening track Mamo Son
is one of my favourite, favourite rock songs of all time.
Horses, this is a record that I know is a classic
and I still have to really dive into.
And I'm getting it on vinyl
because it deserves to have that attention
focused on it.
Because she's incredible.
And then this record,
this is Lights' new record.
Lights was the first artist to ever take us out on tour.
Opening for her.
Back in 2012.
Yeah, she really gave us our first break.
So we love you Lights, thank you so much!
