Good evening again
everyone---the Champion
baseball and softball teams
lived up to their school name
yesterday---both being crowned
Regional Final
champs yesterday as the school
will send both teams to the
state final four for the
first time in school history.
The baseball team is heading to
Columbus for the first time
since 2005 and are looking
for their first state title in
program history. It was a
sophomore leading the way for
the
Golden Flashes baseball team
yesterday as Andrew Russell
pitched a
complete game shutout allowing
just two hits and struckout
five.
He did it all the while with a
smile on his face
too---something he tells us is
all about
love. [C4]20170528 CHAMPION BASE
RECAP-S
Andrew Russell "IT IS AWESOME. I
KNOW I JUST HAVE TO KEEP
SMILING AND THE
GAME WOULD BE THERE TO BACK ME
UP, MY TEAMMATES WERE THERE.
JUST
HAVE TO KEEP SMILING BECAUSE I
LOVE THE GAME."
Rick Yauger "FIRST OF ALL, HE
HAD THE MENTALITY OF A WINNER.
AND A
COMPETITOR. THAT IS THE MAIN
THING HE HAD GOING FOR HIM. THE
KID IS A
GAMER. HE STEPPED OUT ON THE
HILL FOR US, THAT YOUNG MAN
IS A SOPHOMORE. HE STEPPED OUT
ON THE HILL FOR US AND DID
NOTHING BUT COMPETE FOR 7
INNINGS. ANYONE CAN SAY HE HAS
GREAT STUFF, SAY HE THREW THE
BALL WELL BUT WHAT I AM MOST
PROUD OF IS HIS COMPOSURE
THROUGH 7 INNINGS, 21 OUTS
OF A NICELY PITCHED BASEBALL
GAME."

Standing in their way of a state
final berth is Bellville Clear
Fork. The Colts are making their
second straight trip to the
final four.
They are just 18 and 12 on the
year but are coming off a 10 to
0 win in their regional final
win. This one is set for
Huntington Park in
Columbus, 10 A-M start time on
Thursday.
A couple hours after the
baseball team punched their
ticket to the Final Four---the
softball ladies did the same
winning their Massillon Regional
4 to 0 over Tuslaw.
It will be the Golden Flashes
2nd state final four trip in the
last three years---and 8th in
school history. It was just back
in 2015 when Champion
won it all---and a lot of key
pieces are back from that team
including pitcher McKenzie
Zigmont who threw a shutout
yesterday and sluggers Megan
Turner and Molly Williams who
paced the offense throughout the
season.
[C7]20170528 CHAMPION SOFT
RECAP-S
Cheryl Weaver "THE GIRLS ARE
HUNGRY, THEY WANT IT, I WANT IT
FOR THEM. YOU KNOW, WE HAVE TO
TAKE THE NEXT STEP, THAT IS
WHAT I TOLD THEM, EACH STEP GETS
A LITTLE HIGHER, HEY WE ARE DOWN
TO
TWO STEPS LEFT, LETS GET THAT
THIRD ONE."
Megan Turner "IT HELPS US, IT
BENEFITS US PERSONALLY
because WE ALL KNOW WHAT IT IS
LIKE. SO WE ARE TRYING TO GET
THE
FRESHMAN READY AND TELL THEM HOW
EXCITING IT IS FOR THE
COMMMUNITY TO COME WATCH YOU. SO
HAVING THE EXPERIENCE IS
AWESOME FOR US AS A TEAM, IT
HELPS US A LOT."
Molly Williams "THIS YEAR, I
THINK WE WORKED A LOT MORE
HARDER, AND
PLAYED WITH A LOT MORE HEART. WE
DEFINITIELY WANTED IT A LOT
MORE THIS YEAR." TRT 30
A stiff test standing in their
way on Friday. The 2nd-ranked
Golden Flashes will
take on the number three team in
the state Northwestern.
In fact---the top four ranked
teams in Division III all made
the Final Four---and
combine for 104 wins on the year
compared to just 10 losses!!
Champion holds 30 of those
wins---and they look to punch
their ticket to the state final
Friday at 12:30 at Akron
Firestone Stadium.
