Today's Goodness is about fighting crime

by cleaning up vacant lots!

A study conducted in Philadelphia,

found that cleaning up and

restoring abandoned lots helps reduce crime!

In the study, over 500 abandoned lots

were cleared of trash,

got freshly cut grass,

and a small fence around the area!

Results show that this not only

decreased gun violence,

burglaries and other crimes such as vandalism,

but residents in the area also said they felt safer,

and even started spending more time

socializing in their neighborhood!

With over forty thousand vacant lots in the city,

Philadelphia is trying to further implement this project!

And many other cities are doing the same!
