Here's Why Ticket Scalping Is A Good Thing For Fans And Artists - Duration: 5:52.We're going to give you a very unpopular opinion today: ticket scalping is a good thing
for fans and artists.
The band and the venue want the stadium to sell out, not just to get the ticket money,
but because they make money from merchandise and food and alcohol sales too.
A promoter is normally involved to help market the event, so they take a cut.
The venue needs to pay its staff, and so do the band.
And that all applies to sports and comedy too, it's the same economics.
Plus a sell out crowd creates a better atmosphere, increasing the quality of the experience for
everyone.
The ticket price is split between the artist, the venue, and the promoter, typically around
80% to the artist but this will change if they are given a guarantee on the sales, so
the artists know they're getting a minimum fee, no matter how many tickets are bought.
Superstar acts might be able to get a bigger cut, especially if their prices are higher.
Ticketmaster, now called Live Nation Entertainment after a 2010 merger, control 80% of the US
ticket market, across every kind of entertainment.
Thanks to all their deals, it's unlikely bands or venues can sell tickets themselves.
With a few rare exceptions.
And now, a large amount of concert tickets enter the resale market, which is where the
scalping happens.
In previous decades, scalpers would have to stand outside the venue and were often breaking
local laws.
But now there's nothing illegal about reselling a ticket, and in the vast majority of states
there's no law against reselling at a higher price.
The majority of this reselling happens through StubHub, which was founded in 2000.
They allow fans to resell tickets for events they can no longer attend, with the benefit
of guaranteeing the authenticity of the tickets.
But, in reality, it's a platform for the scalping market.
StubHub even has a password protected portal for its top Sellers who shift over $50,000
in tickets each year.
They even provide better rates and software to help manage large volumes of tickets.
This isn't "fan to fan" and obviously they know it.
StubHub gets a cut in fees, just like Ticketmaster.
And Ticketmaster themselves have tried to compete by offering resale on their own site
as well as through their subsiduary TicketsNow.
This is why the ticket business is how it is.
So, why is the $3 billion industry of scalping a good thing?
Absolutely.
I mean, the reality is that we have a limited number of seats and a lot more people who
want to buy those seats.
How do we allocate those?
Sometimes, tickets are sold far in advance and we don't know how valuable those tickets
are going to be or what people are going to value them at and so often times secondary
markets steps in to sell those high value tickets at a high price, low value tickets
at a low price.
Sometimes, you can buy below face value, sometimes above face value.
It's just an arbitrage opportunity that the secondary market is trying to take advantage of.
The problem with concert tickets is that they are hugely underpriced.
It's basic economics; if they were priced at the market value, there would be almost
no scalping because only a few people would be prepared to pay a higher price.
But if I or a bot bought every ticket to an Adele concert or a big Nicks game, there would
definitely be enough demand to sell every ticket at a 50% markup, maybe way higher.
This means they are being sold at dramatically under what the market thinks they are worth.
This encourages scalping but it also means for years and years fans who have bought tickets
directly from ticketmaster, are getting them way cheaper than the market says they should
be.
That leads to the next question; if the demand is so high, why aren't they raising the
prices?
There are two main reasons for tickets being sold at a low price to general audiences.
One, performers and promoters want to guarantee a sold out stadium, partly for the atmosphere
but also for all the additional revenue of refreshments and merchandise.
And two, they don't want to exclude so-called "true fans", who want to come but can't
afford the higher prices.
But let's be clear on something, going to an Adele concert or a Nicks game is not a
necessity, it's a luxury.
People don't demand a cheaper iphone just because they are an Apple fan but think the
phone is too expensive.
They just buy a different phone.
So, if the fans are paying the huge resale prices, it's because they want the ticket
more than they want to keep their money.
The frustration that most people feel is that they are being taken advantage of, because
they know their money isn't going to the artists, some unrelated person is making a
profit on StubHub.
And this angers the artists too.
A few of them might resent that the money is money they could have made, but most big
acts want their fans to get a good deal.
However, while acts like Chance the Rapper have bought up scalped tickets at a loss and
resold them to fans at face price, plenty of other acts have set aside blocks of tickets
to be put on resale.
Acts like Bon Jovi, Celine Dion and Van Halen have all be found to profit of the resale
market.
But since this is how the market works, it might as well be Celine Dion benefiting vs
a random scalper on StubHub.
It's also worth noting that for artists, scalping is another layer of security.
They get to sell out a venue at the price they agreed to and then the resale market
manages the demand.
If there is less demand than expected, the scalpers lose out and they just have to sell
the tickets at lower than face price.
If artists want to stop scalping entirely, they either have to raise ticket prices to
reach their market value, or they have to perform more shows in each venue, so that
the supply can come closer to demand.
Unfortunately, Price is one of the only ways to manage demand in a marketplace so one alternative
might be having software automatically increase the price at the point of sale, as the demand
rushes in.
That way, you know that the reward is still going to the artist, not a scalper who's
just in it for the money.

Fight For Love | English Poetry by Shaunak Mukharji | Nojoto Open Mic Mumbai - Duration: 3:40.the world imploded a million stars shone
brighter than they ever had
the melody of a Thousand violins
played symphonies unknown
the smell of wet earth
after the first rains intermingling with the faint
fragrance of jasmine and vanilla
the comfort of a warm piece of chocolate
melting in your mouth
the simplicity of childhood puzzles
and the complexity of
what seemed to be back then
every quake
every shiver every single imperfection
perfectly refined
there was everything
and in that very instant there was nothing at all
the universe Eve top and then down
the lights grew dimmer
till it was just Stardust in the wind
the music paced itself out to a lull
Jasmine's vanilla chocolates rain
what rains no memory remained
no records of the past or future except for Just the now
perfections imperfections are like seemed meaningless
there was none but that one moment
and the lips parted
sometimes we need to hurt to drove
sometimes we need to lose to gain
some lessons are best learned through pain
but what
when the loss is far too much
what when the pain becomes your crutch
what then
do you brace it all
do you stand where you want to fall
things are easier said than done
to gain something good the bad must be undone
maybe the bad is not meant to go away
maybe those very lessons are then here to stay
never let go of something so good
not a moment spent misunderstood
some say you should fight for what you love
some say these things need an extra shelf
so a million people speaking their own views
a million people waiting for a hint of good news
mile is a voiced amongst the scores
a little broken symphony of older lowers
holding on to hope for time to heal
what may not be broken but just the seal
but if an ain't broke
why does it need fixing
why do these emotions keep on mixing
the mind and heart at a constant war
you want to keep going but the journey is not far
in search for a heart lost its way
to hold her hand never lead her astray
time is all she wants for now
time is all my heart can allow
I strain my eyes for a glimmer of hope
darkness abounds as I trudge the locus look
one word one smile
a familiar kiss
it just takes a moment to realize what's a miss
take the leap my love
I'm still here with my hand to hold you should have no fear
mistakes one to many
that's what it takes
for a belief to transform a cynic it makes
sitting at your corner
sipping on a cup half empty
remembering the days gone by
a lost lifetime of self-pity
no sleep no peace
no arm to lean on
never a woman spent without regret
the cup reads coffee it reeks of rum
they told us time again
never drink to forget
time goes by the world goes on
and here I sit a figure for a lon
a merry giggle lives my bro at last
a hint of smiling alright is not lost
Thank you

Strategy for the Remodeling of Altea's Seafront - Duration: 4:59.Altea's seafront is a mosaic of disparate and problematic places:
a surface car park that cuts off the continuity
of the beach and the promenade,
streets full of cars that acoustically contaminate
and hinder pedestrian flow,
a bike path that impairs access to bar and restaurant terraces...
In opposition to this, the strategy proposes to intervene from the beginning
in the seafront promenade by means of a new characteristic profile
that improves and enhances the direct relationship
between city and sea, on the one hand,
and that establishes a clear delimitation
of the different uses, on the other hand.
Along the promenade we find five strategic points
where five architectural installations are located.
These: Activate the public space through their ludic condition.
And educate citizens through the visualization
of issues related to sustainability.
And why are they five?
Because 5 are the historical axes of natural downhill to the sea
on which the strategy proposes to intervene.
And each of them enhances
a characteristic feature of Altea's identity:
Sound
Flavour
Light
Water
and Air
Who designs and who programs
these axes and the interventions in these spaces?
Well, the people from Altea,
its great intangible heritage that historically has been manifested
mainly, through four cultures:
The maritime culture:
with a history linked to the sea
as a source of livelihood thanks to the fishing gear
and as a place for leisure and enjoyment
related to tourist and sports activities.
The agricultural culture:
with a past deeply rooted to irrigated agriculture
and that is still present in the numerous public urban gardens
and hundreds of hectares of productive orchard
within the municipality.
The musical culture:
to 2 centenary musical societies
are added the Professional Conservatory,
the Auditorium
as well as different musical activities throughout the year.
The artistic culture:
portrayed at the beginning of the 20th century by Valencian painters,
Altea has become the residence of famous artists.
This heritage continues in the high quality
of art galleries, studios and ateliers,
exhibition spaces,
craft shows,
foundations, museums,
as well as in the Faculty of Fine Arts.
Thus, through the participation
of the great promoters of these 4 cultures
and educational centres, associations, individuals, etc.
not only the design of interventions in these streets will be proposed,
but also the programming of events.
The main goal: to lead the citizenship to meet again
in these places of descent to the sea,
reinforcing its sense of belonging and its identity.
But, above all, to recover the experience of a mental connection
between the historical Altea above
and the Altea posterior of the coast,
whose separation was tragically marked
marked by the layout of the national highway and the railway line.
In this way, citizens will not only celebrate
their gathering in these places
but will participate in its creation.
And, more importantly,
their return to the seafront will be facilitated.
That's the point.
However, all interventions will be temporary, as an urban laboratory.
The success or failure of these
helps to improve the long-term strategy
and determine with greater certainty
more permanent interventions.
In parallel, the strategy proposes the progressive intervention
in two strips that run parallel to the sea
and that characterize Altea's urban morphology,
through:
Re-naturalization by introducing native species along the train corridor,
space for the union of the two Alteas,
creating a continuity between existing agricultural uses.
And improvement of the pedestrian uses and quality of the public space
in the commercial axes within the urban core.
And for this, the strategy proposes 3 possible future scenarios
that depend on the presence and destiny of the national highway
and the liberalization of the AP-7 toll highway in the medium and long term...
... to which it responds in seven interchangeable phases,
yet the remodeling of the seafront promenade
would always begin in the very first phase.
Therefore, each and every one of the actions proposed by the strategy
involve not only an improvement in the city but,
above all, an opportunity to strengthen its relationship with its new seafront,
which will promote the environmental balance,
the social inclusion
and the economic growth, through:
limitation of car access
improvement of accessibility to the sea
continuity and generosity of pedestrian spaces
integration of the bike path
introduction of biodiversity
appearance of new businesses enhanced by the quality of public space
and development of a citizen management programme
for its facilities
As a consequence,
this sustainable strategy for Altea's seafront
is aligned with its Structural Master Plan
by responding to four of its objectives:
The consolidation of the facilities axis
and the accessible connection between the two Alteas.
And the continuity of maritime uses
and the Green Infrastructure in the Bay of Altea.
And all this,
making Altea join in the same equation
each and every one of its great values.

Team Korea aiming for several gold medals at PyeongChang Winter Olympics - Duration: 2:47.As we inch ever closer to start of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics... it's an especially exciting
time for the home team and their fans.
If you fall under the latter category, and wondering which tickets to snap up,... here's
a run-through of the sporting disciplines where South Korea stands a golden chance of
grabbing some medals... courtesy of our Lee Ji-won.
With the goal of winning at least 8 gold, 4 silver and 8 bronze medals,...
Team Korea aims to win a record number of medals, and finish among the top 4 during
the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
And the medal hunt will start on the second day of the Games, when the men's 1,500 meters
event for short track speed skating takes place at Gangneung Ice Arena.
Though the men's short track event did not bring home any medals for Team Korea at the
previous Sochi Olympics, the discipline is still one of Korea's strongest hopes for gold.
Most of the finals for short track speed skating will be held on February 22nd, including the
women's 1,000 meter and men's 5,000 meter relay.
The period around the Seollal or Lunar New Year holiday will be a key time for Team Korea.
Starting with the women's 500 meter event, we'll witness the world's number one and number
two skaters, Choi Min-jeong and Shim Suk-hee fighting for the gold,... while rising figure
skating star Cha Jun-hwan's singles is held on the 17th.
Moreover, we will witness two-time champion of the women's 500 meter race in speed skating,
Lee Sang-hwa aiming for her 3rd gold medal on the last day of the holiday.
While Team Korea has been strong on the ice, the team has never won any medals in snow
or track-events,... but it seems a new chapter will be written in PyeongChang.
Skeleton, where racers leap on a tiny sled and plummet down a steep ice track,... is
an unfamiliar event to many Koreans.
But with Yun Sung-bin rising to the world's top rankings in recent competitions, the possibility
of clutching the first gold medal in this discipline has gone up.
Alpine snowboarder Lee Sang-ho also came in first in many recent competitions held globally,...
garnering hope that Team Korea will secure another gold medal just a few days before
the Games end.
Hopes for gold will be further enhanced thanks to 19 foreign athletes who will be competing
under the Korean flag, an unprecedented number in Korean Olympic history.
Korea's men's ice hockey team has included seven foreign athletes in its roster, raising
the possibilities of winning a medal.
And Korean-Norwegian Kim Magnus is also a gold medal hopeful in cross-country skiing.
Lee Ji-won, Arirang News.
