Alexa, Alexa… (Taglish Accent)

♫cricket sounds♫

Alexa, Alexa!!! (Bisaya Accent)

♫cricket sounds♫

Alexa, Alexa! (Tagalog Accent)

♫cricket sounds♫

Alexa (American English Accent)

♫Alexa lights up♫

Can you work here in the Philippines?

Yes, I'm speaking to you right now. Isn't it obvious?

Even as my yaya?

Surely and then some!

How so?

Let's tell our viewers more about it after I roll out the intro.

ROLL INTRO ♫glitch♫

Hi, I am the anonymous yet awesome narrator from our last video

and I will be your host for tonight.

You can call me Barry.

So since the click bait is out of the way,

I'll be honest with you guys that most of that conversation

with Alexa was completely orchestrated and edited.

Yes she may not fully distinguish local accents on the spot.

Eventually in due time, she will learn and comprehend your non US or British English.

But all jokes aside, the last question remains to be disputed.

Can Alexa which is an app that natively runs through Amazon's line of voice command devices

like the Tap,

Echo,

and Echo Dot truly be your Yaya in the Philippines?

For our viewers that don't understand Filipino,

Yaya translated to English is Nanny.

Anyway, Alexa is an OAW.

So we're familiar with the term OFW which is Overseas Filipino Worker.

So what is an OAW?

Well, OAW stands for Overseas American Worker.

Ok... check this out.

She will not require a working visa to be able work here in the Philippines.

Well you know why?

Since, you won't be paying any of her wages!

LOL LOL LOL!!!

Hehe...

But what she will need you to buy is a voice command device

like this Amazon Echo Dot we have here.

You will also need decent wifi as well as

the need for an Android

or IOS device

or even just through your computer's web browser.

Once you have all these crossed out of your checklist,

Alexa becomes the channel for you to dictate orders in getting wireless home assistance

and you will have the beginning of a budding smart home.

In this video, you will find out 5 points of evidence that

Alexa can be your affordable home automation option to spearhead

in making your home smarter in the Philippines.

How so? Let's start with Number 1 on the list.

She can easily be your personal assistant by simply asking questions by voice.

Alexa what time is it?

The time is 12:14 AM.

Alexa, what's the weather in Manila?

Currently in Manila, Philippines, it's 84 degrees with mostly cloudy skies.

Today, you can expect some sun and thunderstorms

with a high of 93 degrees and a low of 78 degrees.

You can also give her commands like

Alexa, set alarm to 7:00 AM.

Alarm set for 7:00 AM.

or, Alexa, set a reminder to buy groceries at 6:30 PM.

I put "Buy Groceries" on your to do list.

Moving forward with Google activated as a Skill,

which is Amazon's lingo for a sub app within the main Application who we call Alexa,

you can further extend her abilities to serve you any online information.

With this skill enabled,

Alexa can do online searches without the need of typing it down your phone or keyboard.

Alexa, how many islands are there in the Philippines?

The Philippines has 7,107 islands.

This is one smart yaya where you don't have to worry about her

checking her own text messages or Facebook updates while on the job!

Ha!!! Got him! Got him! LOL LOL LOL!

No pun intended, but lets focus on the job.

So here's number 2 on the list,

which is that she will take orders to turn on electronics or lighting

anytime of the day with no complaints.

No laziness to worry about because she doesn't need to drag her feet

to get the remote to turn on the Samsung TV.

Well to begin with, she's got no feet anyway.

LOL LOL LOL...

Hehe… But what you do need to replace feet with

is other smart home devices and applications.

With the help of a RF/IR booster like Logitech's Harmony Companion

or the Broadlink RM Pro 2 as we have here,

you configure your booster with your appliances' remote controls' commands.

I won't go into detail on how to configure these settings with you,

but check in the description below for Paul Hibbert's DIY instruction video

on how to get this Echo / RM Pro 2 combo going for you.

I suggest subscribing to his channel.

This guy has some great home automation content coming in weekly.

Alexa and I surely learned a thing or two from Paul.

After watching that video and purchasing the Broadlink RM Pro 2,

you can get any electronic device that uses Radio Frequency

or Infrared to be voice activated thanks to the help of

the RM Tasker plugin and Broadlink E-Control App.

I must warn you that the programming of each button of your original remote to the RM Pro 2 may get tedious.

But it's a great pay off

when you can tell your TV Plus

to transfer to the main ABS CBN channel,

switch over to Apple TV,

get IR powered LED strips to turn on,

or get the volume up of the LG Home Theater System to higher levels with just a voice command.

Number 3 on the list is that

Alexa knows how to cook.

♫drum roll♫

Ok I admit that I was stretching it.

No she won't instantly get a frying pan onto a stove,

but what I was trying to say is that she can teach you how to cook.

Alexa ask Google how to cook Chicken Adobo.

Alexa, turn Kitchen Counter Light On.

Okay.

What we waiting for?

Time to get cookin'!

Nearing the end of the list with number 4,

Running late for a meeting and you know finding parking will be crappy when you get to the meeting place?

Don't you worry.

Alexa, ask Uber to request a ride.

There's an UberX about 6 minutes

away from 123 Main St.

Would you like me to order it?

Once in your Uber and away from your Echo Dot, guess what?

Alexa is still with you inside your cellphone.

Click onto the Reverb App,

press and hold like you would on an Amazon Tap and speak.

Alexa what is on my to do list?

You have one to do: Buy Groceries.

Lastly on the list, Amazon is continuously growing the Alexa program to learn more

and gaining much more traction in the home automation market

with more third party programmers applying skills into the community.

This community is what sets it apart with other voice command programs

like Apple's Siri or the Google Home.

Sub communities like the group page Amazon Echo Philippines on Facebook

is where Filipinos share tips with each other to make Alexa

more in tune with the average Filipino consumption.

Isn't my yaya just the best?

How's your yaya compared to my home automation?

Want to have a yaya just like mine?

Well this brings us to wrap up this Amazon Alexa review.

There are links below the description as to where we purchased the gear you saw.

We hope you enjoyed our smart home so much

that it's making you itch to go smash that like button.

But if you didn't,

well hey

go hit that dislike button so we can see how much more room we have to improve.

But we'd prefer that you don't

because we'd wanna get you to subscribe,

click on the notification settings,

write a comment below too

and tell us what was the most favorite Alexa Skill you saw today.

Until then, this is Barry your not so anonymous but ever so awesome host

and Alexa signing off for Think Tank TV PH

where we enjoy taking Tech from all over the world

and fitting it in a Pinoy Budget Meal.

If you think it,

we'll make it!

FAO, Indigenous Peoples and the Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) - Duration: 2:51.

indigenous peoples

there are over 370 million, living in more than 90 countries, accounting for 5 percent of the world population, but constituting 15 percent of the poor.

Indigenous Peoples are custodians of native seeds, traditional knowledge and biodiversity.

FAO recognizes indigenous peoples as fundamental partners in development.

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) promotes the United Nations' core principles and encourages the respect of human rights including the right to self-determination in development

The FAO Policy on Indigenous and Tribal Peoples builds on this – by calling for Free Prior and Informed Consent – (FPIC).

FPIC is a participatory process enabling indigenous peoples to have a say in interventions that may affect their lives.

This means granting or denying consent, but only after receiving the information about the intervention

well in advance, in a culturally appropriate way, and prior to authorizing and starting any activity

Indigenous peoples collectively decide free of coercion, violence and manipulation

knowing that if consent is given, it can be also withdrawn at any stage

Free Prior and Informed Consent also enables indigenous peoples to participate and negotiate the conditions under which the intervention is designed,

implemented, monitored and evaluated

To facilitate a common approach to FPIC, FAO and its partners have designed a practical manual with six key steps to follow along the project cycle

steps for ensuring that equal consideration is given to all members of the community.

FAO training on FPIC comprises webinars and e-learning; and face to face activities

Implementing Free, Prior and Informed Consent and working with indigenous peoples from the beginning of the intervention

gives project managers knowledge to improve understanding of indigenous communities

to build trust and to ensure the sustainability and ownership of the intervention

But above all, it recognizes the positive impact that comes from making sure

that the voices of indigenous women, men, youth and elders are also heard and respected

Getting Ready for Swimsuit Season! Tips for Feeling Good About Your Bathing Sui t Body - Duration: 10:04.

Are you missing out on summer fun for

fear of wearing a bathing suit? Tune in

today and find out how to pick the right

swimwear for you! Thanks again for tuning

in to 2nd Act. I'm real happy to have

Scarlett De Bease with us again today

Scarlett thanks for joining us! thank you

we have a very topical of you know

subject today, with summer right

around the corner lots of women are just

dreading it, dreading the bathing suit

days what tips do you have in that

regard that you know we can feel better

about? well the good news is you actually

can get in the water and you actually

can go on vacation and join pool parties

because there are ways you can venture

out of the house and not feel vulnerable

and miserable and embarrassed because

any shape any size any age can look

beautiful in a bathing suit and a cover-up

as long as you follow a few little

guidelines which I'll share with you but

the bottom line is you don't have to

stay you don't have to be a recluse

so what I want to do is give women tips

on how they can shop for bathing suits

which can be a traumatic event in itself,

well I mean let's face it and if you

follow these tips you'll actually find a

bathing suit you can wear, you'll find

things that will allow you to go out and

have such fun and not turn down

invitations to cruises and vacations and

and and the pool the beach you know one

of the best things to do in the hot

weather is to go there, so the first

thing I want to say it's really really

important it's kind of a shocker that

when you go shopping for a bathing suit

don't think that the clothing you wear

is the same size bathing suit... I know why

do they do that

all this vanity sizing and bathing suits

are like five sizes five sizes larger

well maybe not that much ... the bathing suit is

the worst it goes the total opposite

direction, so to me it's

stupid what they do that that way

because you're going to not shop you know

so if you like wear a size 12 in

clothes and you put a size 12 bathing suit on

its going to be pinching on you in

all the wrong and uncomfortable places

and you're gonna go that's it I'm out of

here

the truth is bathing suits

not sized the same as clothing - so if

you're like a size 12 in clothes you

might want to try a size 14 or 16

in a bathing suits and again I always say

doesn't matter what the size is it

matters how it fits you so that's an

instance relief when you realize

it's not you it's the way the industry

sizes the bathing suit okay so you can

still be a size 12 but in a bathing suit

you want to go up a little bit

that's really important the second

thing is I discussed in a video a while

back with you on color you know the bathing

suit also you want to make sure the part

from the bust area up is a color that is

flattering to your face so whether

it's you know for your hair color your

eyes use the tips I shared in that

video so that you can wear the right

color because again if you wear in the

right color this is what's matters this is what

comes out right ah the other thing is

where print placement is in a bathing

suit and with a couple of darker colors

in a bathing suit so a lot of

times a woman is wider on the bottom

which is pretty common you want to go if

you can a darker color on that area and

if you're smaller on top you want to

wear a lighter color same is reversed if

you're bigger on top wear a darker color

there and then wear a lighter color on

the bottom and if you look at bathing

suits you'll see that there's very

specific places of colors and print very

specific and I also shared these

pictures with you, there is a line of bathing suits

out there's a few ones called Miracle

Suit that will make you look like you're

lost weight which is wonderful because

in a bathing suit you want to look as

thin as you possibly can and these just

suck you in the right places and they're

comfortable so I highly recommend ... it's called

the miracle suit miracle suit yeah ...

we'll link to that then I'll make sure

that we okay great you can get them in department

stores, I've even found them at TJ Max

sometimes and Marshall's so it's great

also you got to look behind you once in

a while you want to see what's happening

up here in the back what's happening

down there in the back so the other reason why you

want to wear a bathing suit that's a size

larger than your clothes is because you

don't want to constantly be

pulling at your backside you know if you

look if you look at you know women you

know all of us are constantly pulling

on our bathing suits to make sure that

our rear ends are in there so if you

wear this the right side you're not

going to have all that movement so you

don't have to be adjusting all the time ... you

know that's a really good point that you

make Scarlett is that the you know if

we're dreading it anyway the suit itself

because it is something tight can make

us feel worse so being aware of of going

bigger and not feeling bad about it I

think that's a really good point you made ... and it can be very

very comfortable it really can

if you're buying and wearing it in

the right size so the thing about the

back which is that you know if your wider

on top you want to avoid like racer

back tops because a racerback top which

goes narrow in the back cause it makes

you look really wide okay so if you are

narrow on top that's a great great

feature to have that Racerback but if

you already wide on top or you're very

broad shoulders or you're just that's your

body shape, you're wider up here

avoid a racerback style okay that's

because I see that a lot like

even in gym clothes I see that a lot and

it's not a good look on women who are

broader on top so that's a little thing ...

and a lot of bathing suits now not only

have print place or color

place that's important, but they have little

features that sort of you know give you

whittle away your your waistline ... so it

might be shearing which is the gathering

it could be sometimes they have like a

like a almost like a belt effect where

it's like sort of like that something is

kind of going across your waist area

that makes the waistline look more

narrow which is great and a lot of

bathing suits now have little skirts to

them which is adorable you know you can

not have to be so self-conscious that

way you know they're flattering looks

good it's great then I wanted to say

that a lot of women tend to give up on

the whole bathing suit idea and end

up wearing shorts and a t-shirt so while

everybody else is lounging around having

their Pina Coladas in a bathing suit there's

somebody out there in shorts and a

t-shirt and while you think you're

hiding that way

what you're actually doing is bringing

attention to yourself because why are you

wearing shorts and a t-shirt at the pool?l

It's not ... great point ... so you're not

disappearing you're standing out and

it's not the way that you want ... great point!

so I'm a big fan of what I'm wearing now

of cover-ups

there are some beautiful cover-ups out

there this one I actually found for my

client last June I liked it so much I bought it

for myself that's one that's one

little issue with personal shopping you

know, you go this is nice but this is

basically like you can wear

any color bathing suit .. mine is teal ..

you know it has the sleeves so you can

protect yourself from sunburn and

protects you know your upper arms if you

don't want anyone to see it it goes just a

little bit above my knees so I can sit

down have lunch with it I can have my

drink I can have you know I can go to

have breakfast in it whatever and then

get right to the lounge chair but it's a

way to just still keep yourself covered

but in the right attire for the setting so

I wouldn't wear it to play tennis I

wouldn't wear this to go on a picnic

that's where the shorts a t-shirt might

come in handy but for the pool or the

beach or a pool party it's perfect ...

there's cover-ups you can even go in the

water with, like what you just said and so if

you really really feel like you

cannot put a bathing suit on right right

it's a great look it's beautiful

unflattering yes right right I strongly

strongly urge women to to not give up on

having fun you know and and also there's

an attitude thing if you're feeling good

about yourself it really doesn't matter

what size you are so if you know that

your bathing suit is flattering to you and

it's in the right size it won't matter

if you're a size 22 or a size 2 - right and

I can tell you that there are women out

there who are a size two and four and are

no more comfortable being seen in a bathing suit than

somebody who is you know a size 14 or

above .. that doesn't have to do with

anything ... that's a great point it is

about attitude

so own what you look like and with your

great advice you know we can enhance

that and feel good about ... yeah and don't

don't be afraid of the sharks -

when you go in the

dressing room and you're trying on bathing suits

I always say it's like jaws you

really think that any minute now they're

going to come and swallow you up and

you hear the music from Jaws ... it is a

frightening experience ... but if you go

in with the attitude of trying on a

size or two larger than your clothing size

looking for color and using the shearing

and the placement of colors and prints

you're going to be ready to go oh book

that cruise ... yeah and I do love your little

your little ending on your blog that if

you absolutely know I can't do it

Alaska's a beautiful place to visit that's very

funny! Scarlett, thank you so much for the

great tips really appreciate it we'll as

Steady State | MERRY MAIDENS EP. 3 - Duration: 2:05.

Hey Woodland Creatures!

So, I'm going to a party tonight.

And I wasn't sure if I should go.

Or if I even wanted to go.

There will be some people there who might...

Well it just might be a little awkward.

But I figured if I didn't go

I would be afraid the whole time that I was missing out.

It's times like these that I really wish I had an invisibility cloak.

So I am calling upon the strength and widsom

of mathematical goddesses: Ada Lovelace

Emilie du Châtelet, and Sofia Kovalevskaya

to prepare me for a night that doesn't involve my couch

or depressing documentaries on Netflix.

There's this study in mathematics called dynamics.

And it's basically the study of change.

Modeling how things change and when they won't anymore.

And because of the way that I am

I can't help but relate that to me

and my life in this moment.

It's like I'm stuck in this valley.

It's a nice valley. There are wildflowers and a stream.

I could be content here.

But...

I need to know what lies beyond the valley.

If I can be more than the Marian who's

treasurer of student government.

Who...keeps on getting dumped.

Who likes what she's studying in school but

hasn't really found her place yet.

Who is terrified of what lies beyond the valley and..

I'll stop talking about myself in third person now.

Anyway. Dynamics.

I need a change.

I need to...

get out of my steady state.

So. The party. First step.

We'll see what happens.

Wish me luck.

Yours Truly, Marian.

"This is My Mom" - Daughters Remember - Duration: 4:16.

This is my mom, Sophia Maria Chanchully.

This is my mom Elizabeth Durant.

This is my mother Odessa Chambliss and this is a photo of her in one of her nursing uniforms

and it was taken a few years before she got seriously ill.

She passed away in 1996 from ovarian cancer.

But we celebrate her life every day and we have established the Odessa Chambliss quality

of life fund. We raise money for nursing scholarships.

Our mother was a kind woman and she was very caring.

She cared about people.

She was very humble.

She was a believer, a Christian.

And she just loved life.

But when ovarian cancer began to take hold of her body, we never realized how much pain

she was in because she never complained.

She was that kind of woman.

But she shared with us that all she wanted for us to do was to stay together.

And because of that, we realized we wanted to keep her memory alive.

The legacy that she left us was a legacy of love.

This is my mom, Sophia Maria Chanchully.

She was born in Mass, she was a seamstress and she made wedding gowns for a living.

She had 5 children, and I couldn't even tell you how many grandchildren and great grandchildren,

but there was a very big group of us.

My mom was a stay at home mom.

She was the one who had everyone over at our house.

We had a rather big house in the inner city and we had every neighborhood kid that would

come to our house.

She would bake cookies and she would not just bake the cookies and serve the cookies to

us, it was an event where all the little girls in the neighborhood came over and they cooked

and they decorated. And she's made... at her funeral we had people come in with

pictures of their weddings because she made hundreds of wedding gowns over the years and

every neighborhood, I mean everybody in our neighborhood had a wedding gown picture that

our mother had made.

And they lined the tables with those pictures.

I'm the one and only daughter of Elizabeth Durant.

This is my mom at 106 and she's in the Silver Sneakers class at the YMCA.

She and I both went to Silver Sneakers and they enjoyed her so much.

Everybody would practically stop doing the exercise just to watch her.

She'd be sitting there moving her little legs and moving her arms.

The YMCA, when they did their yearly report, and they took pictures of her

They put her in the centerfold and I teased her and I said, "you have to be over 100 years old before you

can make the centerfold."

(laughter) She laughed, she was a very funny person.

She was also very serious.

But she loved children.

Whenever a baby came around her, she just lit up like a neon sign.

And she was very good with children.

She worked at Sugar & Spice daycare doing the grandparent program.

They had a kid in there who cried a lot.

He cried and cried and got on everybody's nerves.

She was the only person who could calm him down.

So that year they gave her a trophy for calming this kid down.

She loved working and doing things for people.

She was always giving to somebody else.

AUROVILLE THE EXPERIMENTAL CITY WITHOUT POLITICS, RELIGION AND - Duration: 4:25.

AUROVILLE - THE EXPERIMENTAL CITY WITHOUT POLITICS, RELIGION AND MONEY

A little-known city in Southern India founded by The United Nations Educational, Scientific

and Cultural Organization that does not have religion, physical money or politics is proving

that these things that most of take for granted as a part of everyday life are not a necessity.

In Aurora, instead of money, every resident is expected to contribute to the overall budget

of the city through financial donations or work carried out in the community

The lack of tangible physical currency is due to an account system that every resident

of the city uses similar to the use of a debit card.

Each resident is also given a basic stipend enough to ensure that their basic needs are

met, and guests pay a daily fee to stay in the city.

Designed to house 50,000 people originally, the actual population od the city has been

around just 200 until relatively, and the population now sits at around 2500.

The residents come from a variety of backgrounds and nations, and there are several different

languages spoken in different parts of the city.

The city also works closely with the surrounding villages, the inhabitants of which are often

employed within the city.

In return for the trade and available workforce, there are village development plans, as well

as educational and economic resources made available to the surrounding villages.

The system is far from perfect, however, as evidenced by the fact that such a tiny proportion

of the original capacity is being used.

In the 1970s the residents were also forced to appeal for help from the Indian government

after difficulties were encountered in the governance of the site following the death

of founder Mirra Alfass.

Alfass launched the city in 1968, with the following statement of intent released to

the press: "Auroville wants to be a universal town where men and women of all countries

can live in peace and progressive harmony, above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities.

The purpose of Auroville is to realize human unity."

The idea of the project was to try to live without the kinds of influences that usually

hamper human progress.

Creating a haven for spiritual, educational and technological advancement.

Aurora has also suffered controversies, however, as a BBC documentary suggested that pedophiles

were tolerated in the community.

A resultant complaint was not upheld by the broadcasting regulatory committee, suggesting

accuracy.

The fact that the city is still functioning and is indeed growing in population if looked

at over the entire length of its existence would suggest that it is at least a partial

success.
