Hello. What's up? Welcome.
We are in Coyoacán (México City), and Iván is with me, again, filming.
And today I'll try a camera that I brought it from the UK...
...just to shoot it here. It's a FED 2.
I have wanted to try this camera for a long time. Many people on the channel recommended it to me, because...
...it's a Leica copy. Like the Fed4, and all the Feds. But this, in particular, looks like an interesting model.
I'll take some pictures with it, now. I'll be using this 50mm f/2.8 lens.
And I'll shoot at the Coyoacán square and walk around and see what happens.
...and then I'll give my impressions. So...
Oh! Today I'll be using...
Agfa Vista Plus 200.
I got it off Poundland. It's really cheap.
It's got 24 frames, so I'll shoot around and see how they turn out. And that's it. Let's go.
UN ROLLO DE FILM.
24 FOTOS
LAS VERÁS TODAS.
That's the episode. I wanted to give my impressions on the FED 2.
This camera was highly recommended to me, and now I see why.
It looks nice, it's easy to use, it's light.
I like it. It's a good camera. Looks interesting.
Like every camera, it has its advantages and disadvantages. I'll talk about the good stuff, first.
Good thing: the viewfinder is bright.
The focusing patch is very bright.
This viewfinder is ultra clean, and it's got a nice focusing patch. It's really easy to focus with this camera.
Another good thing (or that I personally enjoyed):
The shutter counter is manual and you move it to zero when you begin.
It's really simple. It has nothing amazing.
But I think it's a nice way of using the counter. Besides, it's comfortable. When you take the shot...
...this system for...
...of winding the camera, like a clock...
...it's...
...it's more comfortable than it looks. I enjoy the thumb action.
Winding with the thumb is my favorite, but this was not uncomfortable at all, and I felt it was really nice.
The lens is nice. One thing I liked about this particular lens...
...I would love to say its name, but it's in Russian, so I can't pronounce it and have no clue how to read it.
The apertures on this lens don't have any clicks.
So it's a smooth transition from one aperture to the other.
So you can have f/2.8 and between that and f/4...
...the movement is really smooth.
So between f/2.8 and f/4 there's a wide range of movement in between, and it's all correct.
It's fun. When I used it, I was always changing the aperture.
I left it fixed in 1/500, and the rest was changing the aperture.
And in the video you just saw...
...the shadows were between f/3.3 and f/4...
...and the sun was between...
...f/5.6 and f/8, depending on the moment, and sometimes the light was a bit dimmer.
Those were the apertures I used in the video.
It was really comfortable to use.
As a non-Leica and non-Hasselblad rangefinder, this is the best rangefinder I've used so far.
Period.
BUT, like everything, it has some bad things, too.
And the bad thing... is really bad.
The bad thing is the viewfinder is really small.
If you use lenses, like me...
...you run the risk of scratching your lenses.
I happened to me. i scratched mine.
Why? Two reasons. First: the viewfinder has a brass edge. Just like the Leica M3.
The Leica M3 has that, too.
But, as you can see, the viewfinder is much smaller in the FED 2... than the Leica M3.
In all Leicas, actually.
The viewfinder is small, it poses no problems for focusing. I can focus perfectly. The problem is...
...when I look through the viewfinder...
I can't see the whole viewfinder. I can only see the center and the focusing patch.
So in many pictures from the video, when I was about to take them, I knew I was in focus...
...but I had not idea how much of the frame I was missing.
To know that, I need to remove my glasses... and now I can see the whole frame.
Now I know how it looks the picture I was about to take.
But with my glasses on, I can't.
If I move away from it, I can't see the whole frame.
That's one thing. And the second thing with the viewfinder that I don't like is...
You need to force your eyes to use the viewfinder. It's like reading.
The difference between reading up close and far away is the amount of effort your eyes make when reading it.
Well, the FED 2 has that: you need to put some effort to focus what's inside the viewfinder.
Because the image is smaller.
So if I open my eye and I try to focus with my eyes open...
...it's really hard, because the image I see in the viewfinder is smaller than what my other eye sees.
This eye looks everything as normal, and this other one looks like it's watching a small screen.
It's most noticeable when using both eyes with the camera.
Which does not happen with the Leica M3. When I put it on my eyes.
Both my eye and the viewfinder see the same.
Which is more comfortable (to me) when shooting. I don't usually use both eyes, but sometimes I focus...
...and then I open my eye to see what's beyond the framelines.
Just in case something comes from the left.
So I have everything ready, and when it's about to enter, I close my eyes and take a picture.
I don't to that very often...
But it's more comfortable: I feel my sight is way more relaxed with the M3 than with the FED 2.
Aside from that, I think it's a great camera. The shutter speeds (in this model) work perfectly.
The speeds go from B, 25, 50, 100, 250 and 500
So you can take any picture without any problem.
So do I recommend it? Yes.
If you are looking for an economic alternative of a rangefinder (since the M3 is not economic)...
...I think this is a great option.
it's way cheaper than a Minolta rangefinder (NOTE: I meant to say "Bessa")
The screw mount makes the lenses much cheaper.
Screw mount lenses are cheap.
In general, I think the FED 2 is a great camera to start shooting with rangefinders...
...without breaking your bank account.
They are good. If you have the option of getting one or you see a cheap second-hand one that's working...
...try it. I think you'll like it. It's reliable, it's fun...
I think it's a great option.
And... yes. That's it.
I hope you enjoyed the episode and you enjoyed this little impressions about the camera.
Any questions, just ask in the comments section. And that's all.
Thanks for being here. Thanks to my Patrons for their support.
For helping me keeping this channel.
And thank you for watching. See you next week.
And.. that's it. Bye.
