Waching daily May 1 2017

Hi there, I'm Angela Brown, and this is Ask a House Cleaner.

This is the show where you get to ask a house cleaning question

and I get to help you find an answer.

Today's question comes from a brand-spanking-new house cleaner who is going to start her own business.

And she wants to know "What am I supposed to charge customers for house cleaning?

I have no idea what the going rate is.

I have no idea what I'm supposed to charge.

Wow.

That is a that is an exciting question because every house cleaner at some point has asked

that question.

So, what you need to know, and this is based on Home Advisor and Angie's List which are

two national websites that do house cleaning referrals across the country.

And this is the country of the United States.

In the United States, the going rate for house cleaning is anywhere from $25 to $45 per hour.

There's a range in between you could say the average is $35 an hour and that would be a

fair price just about anywhere.

There are some way tiny remote places out in the country the charge a little bit less.

There are places in New York City and probably Boston and some other really highly populated

areas where might be a little bit more.

But the going rate across the country is about $25 to $45 per hour.

Now there are two ways you can bid a job.

The first way is you can bid by the hour and you can just charge a flat rate.

"I charge $30 per hour or $25 per hour."

The second way you can charge by the job.

And it depends on the way your business is setup which will determine which way you choose.

If you're just getting started in the house cleaning business and you're brand spanking

new and you don't have a business plan setup, and you're just getting started, my recommendation

is this; make it easy on yourself.

Don't get hung up on, "what is the square footage of the home?"

And "what is going to be involved?"

And how… you don't know how to bid a house you don't know how long it's going to take

to clean.

You don't know what is involved as far as the chemicals and the cleaning supplies and

all of the things that you're going to have to bring and provide, in order to offset those

expenses.

So, having said that.

Don't charge by the job when you're getting started.

It's super complicated for somebody who has no idea what they're doing.

If you're brand-spanking'-new to the business, (I love this,) just charge by the hour.

Now, you don't have the credentials because you have not done this as a business.

You don't have a big list of happy customers.

Okay?

So, you don't have the credentials of the referral system behind you.

You probably don't have a certification of where you've been through house cleaning training.

So, if you're just kind of winging it, and you're going to figure it out as you go, my

recommendation is that you don't charge top dollar.

If you screw up something people are going to be really quick to fire you.

And say "I'm paying top-dollar and you're just kind of screwing around

figuring things out."

So, don't do that.

I don't want to encourage you to lowball your prices because I'm a very big advocate that

has house cleaners we get what we are worth.

Having said that though if you're just getting started here's an easy way to get started;

charge $25 per hour.

And I know that's right at the very bottom of the rung, but here's what that is; this

is an easy math problem.

So, the easy math is I only have 4 hours to clean your house. So however big or however

small your house is, I only have four hours."

So if I can clean your house in 2 hours it will be $50 dollars.

If I can clean your house in 4 hours it will be $100 dollars.

And you can do the math and so can the client so that's super easy.

When you get to a customer's house and the customer says "Well, I have a hoarding problem

and I have all of these things that I have collected over the years how long will it

take you to do that?"

Please do not try to bid by the job.

You have no idea what you're doing, and you have no idea how long it's going to take.

So, bid by the hour and say "Listen I only have 4 hours, let's see how far we can come

in 4 hours that will cost you $100."

Now, as you're getting started, what this is going to do for you is it's going to

fill a time slot.

They call it low-balling the price.

And the reason I recommend this is because you don't have a system in place.

You don't have cleaning systems in place that will tell you how quickly and how fast.

The more you do this the more proficient you will become.

You'll walk into a house and you will look around and will say "This will take me 2.5

hours and it's going to cost x amount of dollars."

And you'll get that good at it.

But right now, in the beginning, $25 an hour.

And then you can figure it out as you go you have a chance to create some systems.

And to figure out how fast and how efficient you are.

What cleaning supplies you're going to need, and it gives you a little bit of wiggle room.

Right?

Because the customer is not taking the biggest bet on you at $50 an hour.

If it takes her twice as long at least that's the $50 bucks.

So, they'll say "Well, I'll give this girl a chance.

If it takes her twice as long at least that's the $50 bucks."

Right?

So, they will give you a little bit more leeway.

The second thing is once you fill up your schedule there will be people that drop off.

That's just the natural progression of this business.

As people drop off if you decide that you're worth more, and you want to charge more, you

can certainly raise your prices.

But keep your beginning clients at $25 so the people that you hire you in the very beginning

when you're just getting started, that you've got them locked in at that rate.

This is the only profession I know where you can jump in,

This is not anything that you should laugh about.

This is the only profession I know where you can jump in, where you don't need a college

degree.

You don't need four years of training, and you can walk in the first day on the job and

say "I get $25 an hour."

Right?

That's a pretty good income for somebody just starting out on any job.

On any job that's pretty good money.

If you work 8 hours a day at $25 an hour you just made $200 in your pocket.

If you do that five days a week, you just made $1,000 in one week in your pocket.

Right?

So my point is that you can earn some pretty good money just starting out even if you start

at the bottom of the rung.

And as you start out at the bottom of the rung and you work your way up you're going

to become quicker at what you do.

And your processes will change.

And you may switch altogether from bidding by the hour to bidding by the job.

But at the $25 an hour there's another element here that's really important.

Because the math is simple, the math is also simple for the people that you work for.

So they can turn around to their friends and say; "Listen, I just got this really great

house cleaner and he only charges $25 an hour."

And the person that they're speaking to thinks in their head "Well, wait a second.

I'm paying my current housecleaner $35 an hour and they're not very good.

I should give your guy a try."

And immediately you're going to pick up some referral business from friends and neighbors

of the people that you work for.

So very quickly, your schedule will become full.

One of the biggest problems that I see and this again goes back to social media.

There are house cleaners that will jump on the internet and say; "Well, I'm worth $50

an hour I'm going to charge $50 an hour."

Okay.

That's fine but how do you justify that price?

If you're just new and you don't have the systems in place, and you're not efficient,

and you don't have the credentials, and all of these things, you're going to get fired

very quickly.

And then instead of having some money coming in, you have no money coming in.

And now you have to go out and spend money to advertise to get new customers.

Because you have this attitude that's a little bit on the arrogant side; "Oh, I'm worth so

much more money."

If you don't have anything to back it up, guess what?

You're not worth that much more money!

You have to be able to back it up.

And so stay humble in the beginning.

Charge a lower price, completely fill up your calendar.

And in the event, that you have customers that drop off.

And you're going to get new customers, and I'm talking six months down the road and you

want to raise your prices, you can do that at that time.

Right?

Because now you can justify that price.

Alright, so until I see you again,

figuring things out."

if I can clean your house in 4 hours it will be $100.

where you don't need a college degree.

leave the world a cleaner place than when you found it.

Turkmenistan celebrates "The Day of the Horse" - Duration: 2:37.

Turkmenistan, a Central Asian country famous for its rich natural resources,... is also

well known for its beautiful horses.

Our Kim Hyesung, who is in Turkmenistan for us,... reports on its national holiday, the

Turkmen Horse Day.

A National emblem, treasure and heritage.

Turkmenistan's national breed of horses, the Akhalteke, are famous for their endurance

and beauty.

"Every year on the last sunday of April, the once nomadic country celebrates the "Turkmen

Horse Day," or "the Day of the Horse," a chance to see the true speed of these powerful animals."

Also nicknamed "heavenly horses," in their coats of black, brown, and gold... the Akhalteke

show off their grace and agility.

"Horses are not horses, this is one of...our part of the family.

In the family, everybody celebrates this birthday or something special day and we care about

horses and we decided before to create the day devoted for the Akhalteke horses."

Akhalteke is not only a family member but also the symbol of the Asian indoor and martial

arts games to be held in Ashgabat this September.

Part of the weekend celebration was an equestrian beauty contest, providing a rare opportunity

for horse lovers around the world to see the Akhalteke up close -- visitors like Hong Ji-jun,

who breeds more than 100 horses in Korea.

"I think to make a new breed or revival of Korean horses take more than a hundred years,

but I start from Jeju horses because this one should have history and culture of Korea

otherwise it doesn't mean anything, so based on Jeju horses, I crossbreed with Lusitnao

from Portuguese, also Akhalteke from Turkmenistan, and also the Warmblut from Germany."

Turkmenistan's love for its native horses has led the state to invest hundreds of millions

of U.S. dollars into creating breeding centers, promoting equestrian sports... and helping

to increase the number of Akhalteke purebreds to over 400.

Their numbers had been devastated in the 1940s by war.

On a beautiful Sunday, the country's unique and rather endearing obsession with horses

is not just for the locals but also a chance for people from around the world to appreciate

the beauty of the Akhalteke.

S. Korea's defense ministry says U.S. will pay for THAAD battery - Duration: 2:10.

We start with the THAAD missile defense system being deployed to South Korea... and who's

going to pay for it.

Washington reassured Seoul last week that the U.S. will foot the bill, but on Sunday

the U.S. national security advisor said the arrangement could be "renegotiated."

Today, South Korea's defense ministry said that no, unless the two countries change their

current Status of Forces Agreement, South Korea is not responsible for the cost.

Kim Jung-soo has the story.

South Korea's defense ministry has reiterated that Seoul will not pay for the U.S. missile

defense system THAAD, estimated at about 1 billion U.S. dollars,... and that it will

be only be responsible for the land transfer and installation of basic utility systems.

During a regular briefing Monday, the defense ministry spokesperson also said that a future

renegotiation of payments for THAAD would only take place if their existing Status of

Forces Agreement were revised.

His comments were in response to remarks made by U.S. National Security Adviser H.R McMaster

during an interview with FOX News Sunday.

McMaster had said that the U.S would adhere to its agreement with South Korea for the

missile defense system,... but,... in a surprising twist,... had also indicated that payments

for the system could be renegotiated.

Prior to that, McMaster had spoken by phone earlier in the day with his South Korean counterpart

Kim Kwan-jin, reaffirming that the U.S., would pay for the THAAD battery under the existing

SOFA agreement.

The defense ministry in Seoul was also intent to dispel growing speculation in the Korean

media that the THAAD costs would be included in upcoming negotiations between the two countries

on South Korea's contribution to U.S. troop-stationing costs.

The spokesperson said that such matters are decided by a wide array of factors other than

the single element of a THAAD battery, such as the increased likelihood of a North Korean

provocation.

Excluding the THAAD battery, the U.S. currently has nearly 30-thousand troops on the Korean

peninsula.

Preliminary procedures for defense cost-sharing negotiations are expected to begin near the

end of the year.

The Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, one of the country's largest umbrella labor

groups, is leading demonstrations in 15 cities across the country, including Seoul.

An estimated 30-thousand workers are expected to participate.

The unions want companies to stop hiring irregular and temporary workers... and they want greater

Joseph 4TL - Duration: 6:34.

My name is Joseph F. Fiah.

I'm from Liberia, and the part of Liberia is Western Liberia which is Lofa County, Foya District

A town by the name of……..

During the civil war I left, my mother took me to Sierra Leone to one of the refugee camps

By the name …… Yeah.

So I grew up there and started my elementary school there.

Later on came back to Liberia…

When I came back to Liberia I spent a lot of time with my mother.

While I was there with my mother, my uncle sent for me to come to Monrovia and go to school

When I came to Monrovia I spent I think one month with my uncle and later on he (put)

me out, he and his wife.

So I started struggling to send myself to school because I never wanted to be out of school

So I work hard I took contract from those ladies that do gardening work.

And I generate funding so that's how I sent myself to school until I was in the Sr high

in the 11 grade 2011 I was attending Heart of Grace which is the school that was started

by Change Agent Network.

So I stayed there until graduation.

Upon my graduation they offer me a scholarship, 2013.

Then they asked me to stay with them so they could teach me what to do, how to give back

to society how to offer my services to the community.

I stayed with them and they taught me a lot of skills, leadership skills and others.

I met Jesse and Jessica through CAN.

First of all they came in Dec when they came to Lofa County.

It was during my school break.

I went to Lofa to do some work for the organization because that is my usual work I'm doing.

While I was there they came to visit us so that very day they spoke to us and I started

getting to know them.

When I came back to town they would often visit the headquarters which is HOG campus.

So we started to get to know them.

I decided to join the 4TL team because their dream to Liberia is very much significant

to me.

I feel like that is one of the forgotten things that the Liberian people and organizations

within Liberia are not paying attention to.

Because of that a lot of organizations breaking down not realizing the main thing that they

are supposed to do.

Their dream and mission in Liberia is very much important, not only to me but I feel

like all organization could have done that or I feel like everyone should take part and

see how best it could work because it is very much important.

I have an interest in the dream and vision to Liberia and the mission they are on so

I have to take part because I want to see it happening and I want to see Liberian organization

being sustainable through their dream to move Liberia forward, and even the surrounding

countries.

Giving my heart to 4TL, I'm committed to what they are doing.

My involvement their plans and even the plans I have will help to change Liberia.

Because my main focus is changing Liberia.

What they decided to do is very important to me.

What they already planned and my own thinking, because I know much about Liberia.

I having a heart of doing it.

So I'm always trying to plan every positive and good thing that will move 4TL forward.

I pray to God, that God would help us to carry on the process because this what I think that

is rightful for the Liberian organizations and even the Liberian people.

My involvement in 4TL is a great help for Liberia and for myself.

So I will do whatsoever I can in my own way to see 4TL moving forward.

So if you can be a part of this and support whatsoever you have to support this dream

we're sure this is going to impact many people and organizations and keep them alive

and many generations will benefit from it.

We are asking everyone to be a part of this process and give whatever support you can.

Be financial, moral, and even spiritual support, you can.

To help us make this happen.

So we appreciate everyone who is trying their possible best to make this happen and we're

encouraging those who are not aware of this dream to please come on board to work with

us to make this happen in Africa.

It's not only Liberia.

So I thank everyone for listening to us and me rather and joining us in this process.

[2017 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION] Meet the Candidate #4 Yoo Seong-min - Duration: 10:21.

Yoo Seong-min, presidential nominee for Bareun Party running in South Korea's 2017 presidential

election, thank you for squeezing time out of your absolutely hectic campaigning schedule.

I'm going to be very direct with you.

From an objective point of you, you're not running a very easy race here.

For a whole host of reasons in this country at the moment, it is not an easy time to be

a conservative running in the presidential election.

Why are you running for President of the Republic of Korea?

It is true that conservative politicians in Korea are going through a rough time because

of the recent presidential impeachment.

But, it's also very important that we give hope to the Korean people by showing them

a new way of being conservative.

As the presidential nominee of Bareun Party, I would like to show the Korean people that

there is new hope for the conservatives.

That is why I am running for President this time.

It has long been proven that Korea's progressive politicians cannot build a strong, stable

national security; lack competence in running the economy.

That goes for the candidates running in this year's election as well.

I believe that my policy strategy of being strong on national security and reform-minded

on economic issues is the path conservatives should take in the long term and my run for

the presidential office is the first step toward that direction.

I think I have a winning chance if the majority of the people agree with the new values I've

proposed.

The Korean peninsula at the moment is in the global spotlight.

There's been a rapid escalation of tension in this part of the world.

Continuous provocations by the North Korean regime.

What is your policy pledge vis-a-vis Pyongyang?

And more broadly your foreign or diplomatic policy plan?

The biggest problem when it comes to North Korea is its nuclear and missile program.

If it weren't for the North's nuclear weapons and missiles, the South Korean military could

easily win dominance using conventional weapons.

The grave threat from North Korea stems from the asymmetric threat of nuclear weapons and

missiles.

Therefore, should I become president of this nation, the main focus of my foreign and security

policy will be on the elimination of nuclear weapons.

It's pressure and sanctions rather than dialogue that we need to deal with the North Korean

problem today.

It's not enough for South Korea to act independently in pressuring and sanctioning North Korea.

We must work with the U.S. based on our ironclad alliance and negotiate on common strategies

in dealing with North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.

Another very important country is China.

China had been uncooperative and rather lenient in carrying out UN Security Council sanctions

on North Korea until quite recently.

Fortunately, the Trump administration has placed utmost priority on resolving North

Korea's nuclear and missile programs and I believe if the U.S. and South Korea could

together persuade China to join in on pressuring and sanctioning North Korea, it could lead

to resolving the regime's nuclear issue.

We could then corner the North's Kim Jong-un to make the choice of holding on to its nuclear

weapons or face a regime collapse.

When North Korea begins the abandoning process of its nuclear weapons and missiles is when

I'd be willing to start a dialogue or consider economic cooperation with Pyongyang.

What is the first thing you will do as president?

First and foremost, national security.

A crack in national security means life or death.

The nation's economy is on edge as well.

There have rarely been times where we've had crises on both fronts.

Should I become president, I will immediately review and establish the South Korean government's

stance on dealing with North Korea's nuclear and missile programs, its provocations and

meet with U.S. President Donald Trump and reach an agreement on that front.

Then, I will convince the nations surrounding the Korean peninsula including China, Japan,

and Russia to join in on our efforts and focus on getting as many countries on board as possible.

Next is the economy.

The last time we saw an economic crisis of this size was during the 1997 financial crisis.

Therefore, I will concentrate on overcoming the economic crisis.

I will spend the first year to year and a half of my term solving these two problems.

As soon as there is some stability on those fronts, I will carry out fundamental reforms

on long overdue issues such as low growth, low birthrate, and economic polarization.

This is my blueprint.

The Korean economy is at a point where we need to be concerned about both growth and

welfare.

But, of the major presidential candidates, I'm the only one with a balanced concern for

both growth and welfare.

Liberty Korea Party's candidate's pledge is an outdated policy centered on conglomerates;

candidates from the Democratic Party and People's Party only highlight welfare and distribution.

What the Korean economy needs at this point is a recovery momentum for growth.

That momentum will come from entrepreneurial thinking and innovation at SMEs, startups,

and venture firms.

It's what I call innovative growth and it has everything to do with startups, entrepreneurship,

cutting red tape, small and mid-sized enterprises, and science and technology.

The success will depend on how consistent and persistent the president pushes forward

with the plan.

On the other hand, I always emphasize growth while sharing.

Polarization, inequality, unfair practice are serious problems not only to the Korean

society but to the economy as well.

We've gotten to the point where we are concerned whether this country as a nation can even

create a single community.

In order to solve these issues, we must break free of this conglomerates-centered economic

system and help SMEs and startups prosper.

Another big concern in Korea today are temporary jobs in the labor market; disparity and disproportionality

in education and child welfare based on income; and social welfare.

The key to my idea of new conservative politics lies on how much the new government can make

and push forward with policies that address these problems; policies for the average,

ordinary people struggling everyday to make their ends meet.

So, should I become President, I plan to implement balanced policies promoting both growth as

well as welfare.

Why does the Republic of Korea need Yoo Seong-min as president in 2017?

This is a new era for the Republic of Korea.

The core value of this new era is stated in Article 1 of the Constitution: The Republic

of Korea shall be a democratic republic.

I envisage a just society and a warm community.

The reason I've been in politics is because I believe in creating a community where there

is no disparity, no prejudice between the have's and have-not's.

I believe in reviving our economy, picking up our recovery momentum, resolving the low

birthrate, creating a just and fair society where there

is no more beneficiaries of corruption like ex-President Park's longtime friend, Choi

Soon-sil.

Achieving a fair, just and equal society, finding the most important value there; creating

a warm community and above all, fostering leaders that uphold the Constitution and abide

by the laws and overcoming the economic and security crises.

These are things that I am confident I can do better than any other running in this election.

Charting new path, new hope not only for the conservatives, but for all of the Korean people.

Absolutely.

That is my conviction.

I strongly believe in new hope for the conservatives and when conservatives change, the entire

nation can change.

Therefore, if I could become new hope for the healthy conservative, I can become new

hope for the Republic of Korea.

Learn about Whales Fun Facts for Kids Educational Videos for Students - Duration: 3:21.

Hey, Friend.

Thanks for taking time out to have fun learning and today we have fun facts about blue whales

for kids.

When it comes to one of my favorite mammals in the ocean, I love the blue whale because

they are so huge.

For example of a blue whale is the largest mammal to ever live on planet Earth including

all of the dinosaurs in history.

Also just like you and me whales are mammals.

That's right because with whales they grow inside their mother as a baby and nurse once

they are born with their mothers until they are big enough to go off on their own.

Another interesting thing about blue whales is how they breathe.

Blue whales breathe just like you and me because they have to come up to the surface for air

although they can swim underwater for some time.

Whales cannot breathe underwater without coming back up for air.

Now when talking about how they breathe whales do not breathe like you and me.

For example with a whale on the top of their head they have a blowhole to take oxygen in.

That is so cool.

Have you ever thought how long a blue whale can stay underwater?

Well although they come up to the surface to breathe in air through their blowhole,

some whales have the ability to swim and stay underwater for up to 90 minutes at a time.

This is normally done by a sperm whale, although most other whales can stay underwater for

about 30 minutes at a time.

Have you ever thought about how fast they can swim?

Well whales can swim pretty fast.

It has been said that some whales can swim up to 30 miles per hour in the ocean.

Now they are definitely some fast swimmers.

But hey, I have a question.

Do you like to sing?

Well if you do you are like some whales because like the humpback whale the humpback whale

loves to sing too.

Isn't that cool?

Now another interesting thing is the size of a blue whale's heart.

The heart of a blue whale is huge weighing in at over a thousand pounds and some would

say it is the size of a Volkswagon Beetle.

Now that is one big heart full of love.

Another interesting thing is the word whale.

Well with the word whale many people talk about the big whales that they see in the

ocean, but the name whale is used to describe whales, dolphins, and porpoises.

But although they can be considered a whale most folk use the name whale for the larger

whales and exclude dolphins and porpoises to make sure that we can easily identify which

one is which.

Well, that is all for me and thanks for stopping by to learn fun facts about blue whales for

children.

I hope you enjoyed hanging out and I'll see you next time on Fresberg cartoon.
