What is Techonomy? - Duration: 4:36.

- You know what I care about is giving people

the power to share giving every person a voice

so we can make the world more open and connected.

right - that's the mission.

- Yesterday and today alone we talked

about the challenges within the healthcare industry

the challenges of urban planning

the challenges of data privacy and security.

– and we actually talked about them

from the business standpoint as well

as some of the technology evolution and challenges.

- In the latest hot controversial topics

like cyber security - and this year

about the business implications of the election.

- The conversations I've had have been amazing.

How technology penetrates every area of our lives

– the social the policy.

I'm not hearing these conversations anywhere else.

- The value of digital is at the center point

of where every industrial company better be

and if they don't get there

I don't thing they're gonna be around.

- It's not just an American phenomenon.

We see our devices and what we do

really resonating well with people around the world.

- When you have autonomous vehicles

you can make mobility much more accessible.

- Techonomy exists to help leaders

really understand how technology

is transforming business and society.

- We've got 94 speakers over the course of three days

we've got 41 segments ranging from 90 seconds

to an hour so engage, ask questions, challenge.

The goal really is to have dialogue and conversation here.

- Our theme for the year is man, machines, and the network

which is meant to suggest the internet of things

and all the implications of that.

- I love the discussion about the privacy of data.

- We were just getting this rich analysis of where AI

is going and that was very illuminating for me.

- My favorite session would definitely

be last night at the dinner reception

and talking about AI and what it means for the future.

- And I'm writing The Singularity is Nearer.

- But it sparked great debates even amongst

the dinner table conversations

when you could just see it erupting

amongst the different groups.

- And we are really lucky to work with Accenture.

They've been a great partner for the last year.

- Really thrilled to be one of

the sponsors of Techonomy this year

and I think Techonomy is really an event

that brings this kind of group together

where we can discuss and debate these kinds

of issues globally not just the technology but the impact.

- The thing that I love about Techonomy

is the fact that it's bringing together

so many diverse people.

- People from different backgrounds

and the conversation is very rich.

- All these different industry leaders together

you get very diverse views so someone

in the transportation industry may

be thinking of something that I just never thought of

that I could apply to our business

for data privacy and data security.

- When you actually get experts together

that have real differences in the backgrounds

and the perspectives I think those leaders

have the opportunity to actually learn something

about the problems themselves.

- How do you respond to the fact that Donald Trump

has just been elected president of the United States.

- Well, we have a lot of work to do.

We really believe in people.

You don't generally go wrong when you trust

that people understand what they care about

and what's important to them

and you build systems that reflect that.

- Although the theme is technology we clearly see

the impact of technology on society

and we want to look at it from these different perspectives.

- You know for us as musicians, technology

is such an enormous part of our lives

so it's exciting it's really exciting

for us to hear what people are creating

what people are doing and - you know

potentially what the future looks like for us.

- Technology is just this amazing scaler.

Knowing where you can lean on that and where you can't.

Knowing where the real creative potential

with technology is.

I don't think there's a substitute

for understanding those details

- otherwise you can't see what's possible in front of you.

- Any traditional line of business leader

that says that I'll just leave this all to the CIO

to go figure out that doesn't work anymore

we all have to understand how the technology

is gonna impact how we run our lives.

- I love this conference I love the energy here

and every single time I leave I feel

as if I've been enriched and have

a whole new set of perspectives

on my work and the world as well.

Darth Vader is Alive and Working at a Memphis Hospital - Duration: 3:46.

My name is Darth Vader Williamson

and I'm a surgical assist

here at Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett

I've been here for the last ten years

I've been a surgical tech

and assist for the last twenty-one.

When I was born

my mother wanted me to be named

Junior, which was after my father

Anthony Lee Williamson

but him being a Star Wars buff

he was so enamored with the character

Darth Vader he was like

"this would be one bad name for our son"

and under the affects of anesthesia

she would have agreed to anything

she's like "yea, okay, fine"

when she realized what she'd done

afterwards, she was like, "uhh"

"what have we done??"

And he's like "no, no, no, it's cool, it's cool

he'll be okay"

And it just stuck

It's always been Darth Vader

And it is on my birth certificate

I took the military entrance exam

And I scored pretty high

This was one of my choices

And uh the recruiter pushed real hard

for me to go into surgical technology

I went after I graduated from high school

in 1996 and uh, the rest is history

That's all I've ever done

There's nothing not to like about it

I love every aspect of surgery

I enjoy the fact that we are giving people

a better quality of life

and I enjoy the fact that we're helping

I enjoy being a part of a team

there's just so many different aspects

that I actually love about doing this and

I take my work personal

I actually enjoy it

It's not an assembly line

one in and go, it's

you know, It's just hard to explain

the feeling of being part of something

that is really meaningful to patients outcome

There are some people that go really overboard

They say, "oh my god, your name really is Darth Vader!"

They're like, "can I get an autograph?"

I've been asked for autographs

I've been asked to take pictures

I've had people say, "the opening of Star Wars

is coming up. Can you go with me?

Cause I want to be the first person

to say Darth Vader went to see the new Star Wars

It's both good and bad

It has its good and bad points

I have not seen Star Wars

past Return of the Jedi

All the new ones that have come out

nope, never seen them

Videographer, "Do you have a favorite character?"

(Darth Vader laughs)

Actually my favorite character

is the bounty hunter

named Boba Fett

That's my favorite character

Videographer, "not Darth Vader. Go figure"

(Darth Vader laughs)

This guy here was actually knitted for me

This is a

you can't buy this in the store

a young lady who actually

works here in surgical tech

She knitted this for me

And its, I call him Mini V

for Mini Vader

Sometimes I put him

in the truck and we ride

And he's just, just me

I mean, you can't, it's a one of a kind piece

you can't just go our and buy it

So she took her time to make it for me

so this is one of my most cherished possessions right here

May the force be with you!
