Guys. This drama is the best drama in the world!
Ok, I'm being extra, but I'll be damned if My Shy Boss don't laugh at all the Dramaland cliches. Hwan Ki is a reclusive boss terrfiied of social interaction.
He has watched over our heroine secretly for 3 years because of his guilt over his part in her sister's death. Huh. That's a hell of a backstory.
Now Ro Woon wants to find out what really happened, so she hires into his company; all James Bond secret-esque style. Sounds like a boring ass melodrama, right?
Bitch, you wrong! I'm the bitch in this scenario, cause that's what I thought when I clicked episode 1. For starters, Mr Hero is a beta-tastic teddy bear!
He's terrified of hurting others, and hell he even made a travel blog for a girl's lost toy just so she won't have a sad! Oh my heart! I love him & I love our heroine!
Why? Cause she's alpha-girl! Ro Woon starts as a pushy, take-no-crap brash-as-frack chick. And I loved it!
Some fans got pissy, but I got happy because how often do alpha-asses do that shit? All the damn time! Ugh! But the Dramaland cliche subversion train don't stop there!
The Hero-To-The-Rescue moment epic fails & we got 2 LOL-tastic piggyback rides. The 1st is a misunderstanding & the 2nd?
The hero totally totes the SML. Hehe. And unlike a typical drama, this 1 has a bomb-diggity 2nd female lead!
Even though she's got a heartboner for Mr Smoocheykins, she ain't no man-stealing crack hoe! That was extremely problematic, what I just said.
She lightheartedly teases Ro Woon & she is downright friendly! I know! For once we get a normal portrayal of a real female!
I'm--I'm just *stutters* I don't know what I am!
Yun Jung gets to be a multilayered cliche subverter. She does so much cool shit. She turns the "tricks the hero into a smooch" trope on its damn head.
And she tells off asshole dad! She doesn't schmooze at daddy because she resents being played.
Even when he could give her exactly what she wants, she says F you dude. Do yall hear how much good is in this drama?
Um, hello, you and me, we're here for the romance so shut up and start talking!
Wow you're an add duck, but my alter ego has a point. If you're watching this for the romance then...
WELL PREPARE TO FANGIRL FART ALL OVER THE PLACE! Hehe, I know I'm a troll, I tricked you there for a second.
This OTP is the most OTP that ever OTPed in the history of OTPing! Our leads are so damn good together! I mean an opposites attract inside of an office romance?
Whoot! Where she's outspoken, independent, confident, & silly, he's reclusive, quiet, dependent & serious. Yet both respect & support one another's differences!
So they're so opposite & they just attract all over the place. They don't try to tear each other down, they build each other up!
This is a grounded couple, so that makes their cute shit even more emotastic. I didn't even think that was possible but oh, trust a fangirl, it's possible.
He dances for her, she does his makeup for him, he swoons over her, she lusts after him. And the kisses, sweet baby Cupid, the kisses!
We get smooches for the entire drama. And what's more, they're good smooches.
These 2 peeps do lip locking under shower sprays, against cars, in bed; the list don't quit! They have quick "kiss wars" & our gal even gets to initiate pants feelings!
Our lil' lovey-dovey Tweety birds even do hot Bone Town staring! Do yall hear the perfection that exists within this OTP? Please nod your head that you do.
Thank you. They have a healthy, beautiful relationship that is so rare in Dramaland these days. You pair that with all of the original stuff in the script and o.m.g!
We had an episode long flashback & I normally hate that crap. But I cared & liked! What?!
My Shy Boss even respectfully addresses transgender people & their pronouns! Wow!
There is not a fangirl noise or expression or gesticulation that can encapsulate my happiness for that reality. Good job, drama. Good damn job!
Good job at being good at everything & not just the big stuff but in the small stuff too. Like all the office employees.
I hearted them all because every single one of them had personality & story & development. They were all fun. And heartfelt. And I liked it!
And some of them even got to have some pretty damn good lines to boot.
Only the ones without power are always sorry.
Oww! That painful truth is quite unpleasantly painful. Drama, you're made of win. And gold. And happiness & diamonds & orgasms & free money.
My Shy Boss is ALMOST perfect. Note the fact that I really, really stressed the word "almost," for admittedly the explanation behind the sister's death was a bit weak.
Also, I can't lie, the last 2 episodes are angsty as crap, but they can kind of get away with that cause it's a little understandable considering the plot almost...sort of.
Basically I'm just saying I'm giving it a pass. Good dramas deserve passes, dammit. So go forth & put this in your brain. I made that weird didn't I? Yeah.
This is another one of those dramas that I feel like either everybody didn't like it or it went under the radar or I'm the odd 1 out again.
I also loved the pacing of this thing & the fact that the drama writers knew not to throw the OTP together too soon & not to tear them apart for stupid reasons although
Yeah I kinda admit they get a little bit like, really? You're gonna let this tear you apart at this point, like why can't you just- it's ok, I- mmm. Spoilers I'm not gonna go there.
Am I sweating? If you watched My Shy Boss & didn't like it, I'm really curious why. I'm not gonna jump on your case, but I just really wanna know.
Ok filming without air conditioning is a pain in the ass in the summertime. I'm gonna go away before I explode into sweat balls.
Ewww, sweaty armpits!
