Amazonian Odyssey - Top Water for Peacock Bass - Duration: 28:06.

This fish is called Tambaqui, is one of the most appreciated

Arrived in Manaus after about 16 hours of flight, we take the last supplies, the baits, take a tour of the city

and embark on a ship with small boats in tow for fishing that will be our home for the next 10 days.

We will go up the Amazon River to the Rio Uatuma where we will start fishing.

Jaraqui very good fish!

We are proceeding slowly because unfortunately we have big problems with the engine that is giving up,

with a satellite phone we have contacted Manaus and a replacement boat should arrive within a few hours.

We are repacking our bags and we have to change boats.

Finally the substitute ship is coming, this one has had problems right from the start and leave us in the middle of the Amazon River.

Now we transfer and hope that then everything goes smoothly.

After 3 days of problems and setbacks,

we are sailing again to reach the fishing areas.

We will start fishing on the Rio Uatuma ....

Yes!

We will go up the river, will fish some lagoons, hope that the pilotero will take us to good places,

because we are tired, 3 days without fishing ......

it's true tomorrow we'll fish, the pilotero knows very well the area being a native,

and we will enter various indigenous reserves.

We are in Itapiranga, last city on the Amazon River,

have done some shopping for the indigenous communities of the Rio Uatuma,

from now on for seven days we will be in the jungle, hope to hook some big Tucunare.

We have no legumes or tomatoes but it is still the typical dish of the region

Natural tucunate!

We have just paid the Indian community that runs fishing here on the Rio Jatapu.

oooohh ooohhh, I broke ....

No, lure is still there ... this was big ....

try again, try again, try again.

It's big.

Oh my God big animal.

Big Animal

Is hooked well.

it's big, it's big, Ermenegildo.

nice, this is nice ....... we see .... 10lb.

It's not advisable to stay here, it's advisable to move as soon as possible.

After about 20 hours of navigation on the Amazon River we reached the Rio Uatuma

unfortunately we realized that the conditions are bad,

the heavy rains of recent days has turned the water rise and dirty and the Tucunare are very spooky.

So we decided to fall back on Rio Urubu 200km away,

even there are not optimal conditions but it seems to be a little better.

We loaded everything and we are leaving for Rio Urubu.

Perfect! Safety first!

Everything is ok two and a half hours under the sun!

Here we are at the posada, now we download, eat something,

and do a half day fishing on the Rio Urubu.

We hope that the conditions are a little better,

however it's beautiful, it's an adventure, we do many things, we see many places,

it's very nice, cool.

We mainly use 4 techniques:

big propellers, wtd, popper and jerk.

fish them with very short rods 5'6 '' - 5'10 '', 65 lb braid, and fast retrieve reels.

Caipirinha we have it.

They are hard to see, you see the eyes shine.

Is that a crocodile?

Yes, those eyes that shine are a crocodile.

We are in the middle of the forest at night looking for bottom fish.

In the middle of mosquitoes.

10gr lead, double braid, steel wire, dead fish.

Alex Let it eat?

Set the hook, set the hook

Listen the Pirarara, what it sounds like

it has taken it with the line by hand.

We are moving because the piranhas have arrived, a bite half a fish.

A bat has come out of the tree.

What a piranha.

They hosted us for dinner.

I do not know neither Portuguese nor Indio

it's the Indian translation of those Portuguese words.

Ah Ok.....

Very good.

Thank you very much.

In Italy we say grazie! Grazie!

Grazie mille!

Why The Price Of Coke Didn't Change For 70 Years | Planet Money | NPR - Duration: 3:46.

Coca-Cola: crisp, refreshing

and, just to be clear, not an NPR corporate sponsor.

We swear, they didn't pay us.

It's also a bizarre economics aberration.

From 1886 to the 1950s —

through continued industrialization,

several wars involving the U.S.,

and prohibition — a Coca-Cola cost 5 cents,

and frankly, that is really weird.

Ask and any economics expert and they'll tell you,

Prices usually change over time.

So how did Coke keep their price the same for so long?

Well, it has to do with two lawyers from Chattanooga.

In 1899, those lawyers pay a visit

to the president of Coca-Cola,

a guy named Asa Candler.

And they tell him,

"We're interested in this new thing."

"Selling drinks in bottles."

They want to buy the bottling rights.

The way the story goes is Candler just said, "You're out of your mind,

it's not going to work.

Coke is a soda fountain business."

And they said, "Well, look, you know.

Give us the rights anyway."

And, so, he said, "Yeah, OK, I'll sell you the syrup at, uhh, 90 cents a gallon."

In agreeing to do that, Candler did something that companies never do.

He agreed to sell his product, the syrup, to bottlers for a fixed price forever.

The contract had no end date.

Now, this was about to be a problem for the Coca-Cola company because now any increase in

price down at the corner store, that doesn't help them.

The profit goes to the bottlers and the retailers.

In fact, if they raise the price, it hurts Coke.

If Coke goes up to a dime, fewer people are going to buy Coke,

and Coke sells less syrup.

So, if you're Coca-Cola, you want somehow to keep the price down at 5 cents.

What do you do?

Well, one thing you do is you blanket the entire country with ads for 5-cent Coke.

This was like, so clutch.

Coca-Cola is taking control of pricing away from the bottlers and the corner stores and

anyone selling a bottle of Coke for more than 5 cents was just going to look like a jerk.

Coca-Cola was finally able to renegotiate their contract with the bottlers in 1921,

and they might have changed the price then, but they couldn't.

They were trapped.

Coca-Cola said early on, "A Coke costs a nickel."

It put it on billboards and ads and painted it on buildings, and people got used to it.

It felt like a promise.

In a way, all prices kind of feel like a promise.

Once we see a price on something we have this feeling

that it's some innate property of the thing.

That it shouldn't change.

And so the ads that Coke had run so prominently ended up trapping them.

The thing that finally undid the nickel Coke was inflation.

The price of ingredients started to go up.

But to this day, people feel very strongly about a fixed price for Coke.

Back in 1999, the CEO suggested charging more for vending machine Coke on hot days

and was met with widespread outrage.

Whether it's a nickel or a dollar, people have a way of getting used to their prices.

March For Our Lives (Washington, DC) | VLOG - Duration: 5:53.

-that's a nice hat

-thank you

-so what did we do this weekend?

-we went to the March For Our Lives in DC

(national anthem plays)

Our University provided busing there and back

and that was a bit of a process

but I'm really glad we got to go in Washington DC specifically

-what was the march like?

-The March was a lot different than I expected

before we went I did a lot of research on how to stay safe

how to take care of yourself if you are tear gassed

so I went in with these expectations but once I got there I quickly found out that I was very wrong

this march was organized to make sure that everybody feels safe

which is very appropriate for what we're marching for

-how big was the crowd?

-Crowd was huuuuge

it really messed with my ideas of what like a "march" was

because I was just expecting to nonstop be moving

But there was very little space to actually move around

because it was PACKED

you cannot understand just how big it was unless you were there

like these overhead shots don't even do it justice

we were crammed! there was- I thought it was just gonna be students

It was children: elementary school age, middle school aged! Parents, grandparents, everyone was there

every background, every shape, every size, every age

-what's your big takeaway from the march?

my takeaway...

obviously things like this shouldn't happen

but when there's such devastation the unity that comes afterwards

it can't be replicated, it can't be recreated, it can't even be described in words

just the feeling when you're there- it was incredible.

the amount of love and support and need and desire to change our country!

From the other side, if you don't believe that gun reform should happen,

(these) people will say that we're just criticizing America and that we don't like to be American

that we should just leave!

I have never felt more patriotic than when I was at that march!

because I think being a true patriot, somebody who really loves America,

is somebody who wants to see America be better

and I feel like everyone at that march didn't want to leave

they want to make our home be better

a place where we can feel safer

a place where less children have to deal with this

Now that I've talked to you about my experience and takeaways

I'm going to be playing some clips from the protest with volume

so you can experience some highlights for yourself

stick around after these clips so you can experience some of our other DC shenanigans

(Miley Cyrus singing) You'll never reach it

every step I'm taking

and every move I make feels

lost with no direction

VOTE THEM OUT!

VOTE THEM OUT!

VOTE THEM OUT!

VOTE THEM OUT!

(gospel choir singing) Ohhh in DC!

oh in DC I'm gonna let it shine!

Oh in DC we're gonna let it shine!

Oh in DC we're gonna let it shine!

Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!

(Yolanda Renee King speaking) A great generation!

(crowd cheering back) A GREAT GENERATION!

-Now I'd like you to say it like you really, really mean it!

SPREAD THE WORD!!

-SPREAD THE WORD!!

-HAVE YOU HEARD?

-(me mishearing) SPREAD THE WORD!!!

so the first thing we had to do after the March was go on our quest for food

which was very difficult because a lot of places were shut down

If you're going to a march and you only have a few hours...

ummm screw that

get a hotel room!

Why would you-

yeeees

there's a pencil in the sky!

there's a pencil in the sky!

the first thing we have to do at Madame Tussauds was go to the bathroom

and on all the stalls at said actress, musician, cultural icon

and I made a lame joke about how I was all of the above

oh no this march is getting pretty serious

This the OG Ben

-you know.. Thomas Jefferson looks nothing like Daveed Diggs!!

-this was me apologizing to "crooked Hillary" about all the bullshit she had to deal with throughout her life

here's Ben's impression of Nixon

-(Ben as Nixon) I'm Richard Nixooon

I am not a crook!

Not a crook!

-He does look like he'd sound like that

Can you believe he's the most highly paid actor??

'cause neither can I!!

(me as Jimmy Fallon) yeah!! I break character all the time and I keep laughing

and no one calls me out for it 'cause I'm Jimmy Fallon

(me as Stephen Colbert) I'm here with Athena who was here today for the March For Our Lives!

this is us walking back to the busses

and I was complaining about how we did not spend enough time in DC

you're walking in front of the Capitol!!

do you know how many f*cked up things happen in there?!

-Too many!

-do you know how unprepared we were for this trip?

way too unprepared!!

here is us walking on a narrow strip of sidewalk-ish land on the side of the road

because we went to the wrong parking lot trying to find out where our bus is!

that's such a weird note to end on!

why would you do that?

because I want you to know that if you're planning on going to a different state to go to a march

plan better than us

please

Italy to Canada Travel Vlog: Going Home for the Holidays - Duration: 14:50.

Hey guys, good morning good morning.

We are in Pompei and we have got an epic travel vlog for you because not only are we traveling

to Naples and then to Rome but we're going back to Canada.

Yes.

Via Lisbon.

Uh huh.

So we're going to show you the entire journey and we're starting off on a regional train.

What is that train called again?

I can never say.

Okay, so we're at station Circumvesuviana.

Yes.

And we don't know when it is coming because today is day two of that holiday.

Yeah.

The feast of the immaculate conception and everything is shutdown.

Yeah.

So hopefully we'll get on a train soon.

It is going to be a tight connection with our other train yeah which goes from Naples

to Rome.

We're going to be staying overnight.

Yeah.

And then the following morning we pick up with the flights.

Yes.

So anyways we're going to be starting off on a train ending with a German Shepherd dog

Togo.

Yes.

We can't wait to see Togo.

My family dog.

We're going to be hanging out in Audrey's family house for a while in Brampton.

Yeah.

Brampton, Canada which is just like on the outskirts of Toronto.

Jeez, you're just putting my neighborhood out there.

Okay.

Alright.

It is a big city I'm sure.

Okay.

Anyways, yeah we've got a busy travel day so yeah let's get it started.

Okay.

What is going on?

What is going on.

So we made it to the train station.

We arrived at we arrived at Napoli Garibaldi which is also connected to Napoli Centrale.

It is basically the same station.

We found a restaurant ordered ourselves some lunch.

Sam is having gnocchi quattro formaggi.

Four cheeses.

And I am having cotoletta con patata.

Which is what?

Some kind of cutlet and potatoes.

Yeah.

And we're so hungry.

We're so hungry.

One thing I forgot to mention was that the price of the regional train was 2.80 Euros.

Two eighty.

Yeah.

Yeah, and so it took about 45 minutes.

No closer to 50 minutes.

It took a long time to come.

Yeah, we waited just that same amount of time for it to arrive because of the holiday and

then it took the same amount of time we waited for us to get there by train.

So yes we are here.

We don't have quite as much time to spare but we have enough time for lunch.

Enough time always time for food.

Always time for food.

Yep.

Alright time to try four cheese gnocchi.

Quattro Formaggi.

Yeah.

And this is actually a starter portion because it is meant to be the first dish.

Mmmm.

It is pretty good for train station food.

Yeah?

Oh yeah you can taste that cheese.

But you are right.

The portion is not big.

I have a feeling we'll probably grab a sandwich before we get on the train.

And pastries.

This is for you.

Thank.

Buon appetito.

Grazie.

And this is mine.

I got the cutaleta with potatoes.

This looks great.

Oooh.

Oh ho ho.

I wonder what kind of cutlet this is?

Yeah, good question.

Do think chicken?

Pork?

I don't really know.

It is really fresh out of the oven.

Can you guess what it is?

Oh hot.

I don't know.

You don't know?

It has rosemary.

You're suffering.

That is what we know.

The is what we know.

You're suffering.

Get some of that water.

Get some of that Pellegrino in you.

Haha.

Stop.

Just waiting to board now.

What did you get?

More food.

Pastries.

More food.

Three Euros worth of pastries and then lunch at the restaurant was 14 Euros thirty so not

bad.

Not just any pastries let's take a look.

Show us what is inside.

Okay I got the sfogliatella which is the local specialty shaped like a shell.

And also a croissant filled with nutella.

Oh yeah.

That will tide us over until we get to Rome.

That is all mine.

You said you didn't want pastries.

Oh you're going to be sharing don't worry.

I'm invoking the Audrey Dessert Act.

Alrighty Sam welcome to Roma.

It is a big terminal here guys.

I'm tired.

Um, we're about 20 minutes late and we're just going to go find our hotel.

And then chill the rest of the night so we'll take you to the hotel and probably say goodbye

and pick it up again tomorrow.

Alright guys so we've made it to Rome.

We sure have.

And Sam is just immediately passing out in the bed.

I'm chilling guys.

Kind of hit the wall.

Yeah.

So.

Yeah, it has been a long day oh my gosh.

I don't know why but like traveling by train can be really tiring even though you're just

sitting there.

I think we've had about like thirteen or fourteen really busy travel days in a row.

Yeah.

I think I just hit the wall today.

I'm like really tired.

Yeah.

Really tired.

But we arrived at the hotel and we got a free upgrade.

We're in like the penthouse suite.

Um and I mean it is a pretty budget hotel because we only paid 40 Euros a night and

that is really cheap for Rome.

Uh but we thought we'd give you a tour.

So bedroom right there.

Um nightstand, some lights.

We've got a little desk area.

The standout feature is the balcony.

We got a balcony.

Yes, so let's go it is starting to get dark out.

Sunset already happened but this is it.

So yeah that is like the quickest room tour ever.

A bathroom is a bathroom.

You don't need to see that one.

Um yep.

So the plan now is food.

Food.

Okay, we'll take you along for dinner.

I lied before.

I said we're going to call it a day but we're going to go for dinner.

Okay, so we'll take you out for dinner.

Thanks for following guys.

Oh my gosh.

You look like a beached whale right now.

Show us that pose again.

I feel like one.

Like a seal or something.

I feel like one.

Yeah.

I'm running on empty.

Alright let's go get some food.

Food has arrived.

What did you get?

I got spaghetti a la carbonara.

Ah, of course you did.

Our food ended up at someone else's table by accident.

Yep.

But it finally found its way to us.

That is right.

Thankfully.

Thankfully.

Oh my goodness.

This looks good.

Apologies for the orangish light guys.

Am I orange?

We're a little bit orange.

The food looks a little orange.

Mmm.

Just the lighting in here.

It is night.

I'm eating my hair.

Yuck.

That is a bit gross.

Well, is it good?

Mmmhmm.

Hits the spot?

It is tasty.

It is tasty.

How about yours?

I'll try it.

Alright, so I've ordered the Diabolo pizza which is like a margherita except it has picante

salami added to it.

So and no basil.

No basil and no olive oil drizzled all over it.

So really.

Yeah, this is not Naples quality.

Haha.

That is for sure.

I can tell that already.

Alright let's try it.

Mmmm.

So much for taking a break from pizza.

That didn't happen.

Yeah.

Well, it is my last chance so enjoy it.

It is decent but man when you've been having pizza in Naples you've been sure spoiled so

nowhere near that quality but uh it will certainly pass for tonight.

Alright let's enjoy.

Let's enjoy.

Good morning guys.

It is a new day.

Good morning.

We've said goodbye to the trains and now we are going to be flying.

It is a day of flying.

Yeah, actually we were planning on taking the train to the airport.

Yeah.

But when we got to the station and we noticed all of these airport buses parked right here.

Right.

And it is less than half of the price.

And it only takes 45 minutes as opposed to what like 20 or 30 by train.

Right.

So we're like yeah.

The bus tickets are 6 Euros and the train tickets are 5.90.

Oh five ninety.

Save those 10 cents.

And on top of that it is only fifteen minutes longer on the bus so we have the time so we

will save the money.

Lights cameras action.

We haven't done an update in a while.

It is food time at the airport.

I feel like we only film when we're eating.

Yeah a little bit bad with the b-roll on this video.

Anyways we arrived at the airport.

What was it?

Fiumicino?

Something with an F. Yeah.

Fiumicino right?

Yeah.

So yeah it is the main International one.

Yeah.

It was a forty five minute ride.

Yeah.

Little traffic on a Sunday.

We've already checked in.

Yeah.

And now we're having some lunch.

So we saved 12 Euros on transportation.

The bus was a good option by the way.

Yeah.

Especially on a Sunday when it wasn't that busy.

Uh, we got there quickly.

Like forty minutes.

Forty five minutes at most.

Mmmhmm.

We saved 12 Euros.

How much was yours?

This?

Yes.

Do you remember.

It was five something.

This my pizza.

My very last pizza in Italy.

Oh, so sad was just under 8 so basically by taking the bus we got ourselves a free lunch.

So pretty cool.

How is it?

Good.

I got myself the bufalino.

Yeah, so it is sandwich with the famed Buffalo.

I wonder if it is like buffalo cheese or I mean buffalo is like an Italian word for cow

for all we know.

But anyways yeah it is buffalo, prosciutto in a panini.

Is it good?

Mmhmmm.

Yes.

And so our first flight today is going to be with TAP Portugal.

We are going from Lisbon.

From wrong.

We're not in Lisbon yet.

We're going from Rome to Lisbon so yeah that'll be the short one.

And hopefully we make our connection for the International flight back to Toronto.

Fingers crossed.

Our domestic flight has been delayed by 20 minutes.

Which is not good news.

Because we already have a tight connection.

But we'll see.

We shall see.

And I was lured into this gelato shop by like a flowing chocolate fountain fountain.

Right in front of us.

We're like.

Yeah.

And they have amazing looking gelato.

So I got you three flavors.

Strawberry, mango and caramel.

Try it.

Because I have a dripping cone.

So okay.

This needs to be expedited.

Caramel.

Mmm.

Strawberry.

Here is my cone.

And I will be eating that very quickly.

You probably just saw it drip.

It is dripping right now.

So we're going to end this taste test just know that it is very good and that I've

got gelato on my fingers.

Okay guys we owe you the biggest update.

Oh my gosh.

We didn't film the second leg of the journey.

The flight from Lisbon to Toronto because first of all we barely got on the plane.

I'd say a minute.

One of the last people.

We were the last people.

But we made it.

We made it.

Yeah our first flight was late.

We had the craziest tightest connection to begin with.

Yeah.

And then we I don't know how we made it but I barely even remember what happened but we

somehow got on.

Because there was no line at Immigration.

Yeah.

That is the only reason we made it on.

And the last flight we were just so exhausted and we were and it was so turbulent.

Oh yeah.

It was like 3 hours of turbulence.

Back to back super it was horrible.

Back to back super turbulent flights.

Like that was white knuckle grip.

Like basically the seatbelt signs were on both of those flights.

The whole time.

Almost the whole time.

Yeah.

So it wasn't fun but we are here.

Back home.

Back in the Motherland.

Waiting for the luggage.

Back in Canada.

We'll see if our luggage made it.

Yeah.

That is the question.

There is a good chance it didn't.

Fingers crossed.

But we're getting so close to ending this vlog because we promised you we would show

you the dog Togo.

Togo the dog.

My dog.

And that is the end.

The end is near guys.

This Mother Was Arrested For Stealing Groceries Then Police Saw That Her Kids Hadn't Eaten In Days - Duration: 9:45.

This Mother Was Arrested For Stealing Groceries.

Then Police Saw That Her Kids Hadn't Eaten In Days.

The two North Carolina police officers thought it was a routine call, yet it ended up affecting

them deeply.

It all started one day in late 2017 when the officers responded to a report of a theft

from a store in Hillsborough, NC.

A local woman had allegedly stolen groceries from a supermarket; but what the cops found

out about the accused gave them both plenty of food for thought.

The store theft on November 4, 2017, was spotted by staff at the outlet of local grocery chain

Food Lion as it was in progress.

They watched as the female shoplifter took food off the shelves and then left the supermarket,

in the south of Hillsborough, without paying.

The manager then gave chase and followed the perp out to the store's parking lot.

And as the alleged thief got into her ride and sped away, the Food Lion boss was able

to take a note of the car model and license plate number.

The manager furthermore wasted no time in informing the cops about the theft and the

details of the gray Pontiac Vibe getaway car.

And with Hillsborough being a small community, there was surely confidence in the notion

that the police would pinch the perp.

The alleged shoplifter certainly felt that that was the case.

Her name is Theresa West, and she reportedly realized that she was in trouble.

Speaking later to local newspaper The Herald-Sun, the 44-year-old said, "I knew they had me.

I could see 'em taking my tag when I drove off."

West had allegedly made away with some bread, meat, pasta and sauce and a few salad items

to the collective value of about $34.

And while it was hardly the crime of the century, nevertheless, the law is the law.

The case was therefore assigned to Hillsborough officers Senior Corporal Keith Bradshaw and

Officer First-Class Candace Spragins – though the investigation didn't demand much in

the way of work.

Thanks to the Food Lion manager's quick thinking, they had the license number of the

alleged shoplifter's car.

So it was easy work for Bradshaw and Spragins to use this to access the owner's driving

license details.

This in turn displayed West's photo, and the officers were able to compare it to the

image of the shoplifter caught on the Food Lion's security cameras.

The cops apparently had their woman.

Bradshaw and Spragins hence drove the short distance to West's house in the southeast

of Hillsborough.

And while the officers didn't put on their siren, West nonetheless knew they were coming.

In fact, she watched the pair driving down the street in their patrol car.

Later, West admitted, "I was so scared.

So, scared.

I thought I was going to jail.

When you get desperate, you get desperate…

I panicked."

West lives just off Route 70 with her nine-year-old boy and 19-year-old daughter.

Moreover, at the time, the mom had a couple of extra mouths to feed, having given temporary

accommodation to two of her daughter's friends.

West told The Herald-Sun, "I take in wayward kids… but, now I'm disabled."

She explained that she is unable to work owing to rheumatoid arthritis and brain damage,

the latter following a head injury sustained in a car crash.

West, then, was terrified when the two police officers knocked on her door.

Quoted in the local newspaper article, Spragins recounted, "[West] was crying and upset,

and she was just scared."

But although the cops had apparently apprehended their perp, they soon found out something

that gave them pause.

Spragins continued, "The family hadn't eaten in three days.

They just needed to eat.

She just needed to feed her family."

West's situation was clearly grim, and it shocked the two officers.

You see, Bradshaw had checked the fridge and kitchen shelves to find that, other than the

stolen food items, the cupboards were bare.

West had in fact been preparing a spaghetti meal with her ill-gotten gains when the officer

and his partner arrived at the door.

But although the two cops felt desperately sad about the situation, they still had a

job to do.

Spragins therefore told West that they had come to arrest her.

Consequently, the mom was charged with shoplifting and taken back to the Hillsborough Police

Department HQ.

Later, she was made to face the local magistrate; however, she wept so much that Spragins had

to step in and offer her some tissues.

What's more, Spragins felt the need to intervene in the hearing again, this time to explain

to the magistrate about the sad circumstances that had led to the theft.

And upon hearing of West's plight, the magistrate himself was moved to personally help the accused

before him.

West later told The Herald-Sun, "The magistrate called his mother!

He said, 'Mama, this girl needs some food.

We're gonna have to hook her up.'"

The magistrate subsequently released the woman with an unsecured bail of $500, while his

mother actually made up a care parcel for West and her dependents.

Meanwhile, Bradshaw had been reaching out to charities and churches in the local area.

That's how he learned that the local food banks only issue items on certain days – and,

unfortunately, this day wasn't one of them.

As a result, Bradshaw and Spragins decided to take matters into their own hands.

The two police officers drove to the local Walmart store with the intention of filling

West's food cupboards and fridge.

And what's more, the compassionate cops ended up spending $140 of their own money

on groceries for West and her family.

Spragins said, "We started in the fruits because they're in the front of the store.

After that, we hit the meat aisle along the back.

We knew kids were in the house, so – of course – we had to grab a Coke or two and

some Sprite.

We weren't sure what they liked.

So we figured most people like a dark drink or a light one, so we got some of both."

In addition, Bradshaw and Spragins bought apples, oranges and bananas from the fruit

section and a large sack of potatoes plus some green beans.

Next, the officers added some bacon, chicken breasts, hot dogs and pork chops to their

trolley.

Ultimately, then, the floor of West's kitchen was completely covered in grocery bags full

of goodies.

So when West returned home from her hearing with the magistrate, she was in for quite

a shock.

Indeed, when the mom saw all of the Walmart bags on the floor, she was completely overcome.

She was so touched by the kindness of Bradshaw and Spragins, in fact, that she began to cry

as she thanked them over and over.

West later said, "It was like an act of God."

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Andy Simmonds, the Chief of Hillsborough Police, was so pleased with

his officers' work that he posted about it online.

Subsequently, the story appeared on the Hillsborough Police Department's official Facebook page.

And since it first went up, the post about Bradshaw and Spragins' actions has earned

thousands of positive reactions.

Simmonds said, "We often buy people meals or gas.

This is what policing is about in 2017.

It has to be about partnership."

As far as Simmonds is concerned, this kind of kindness and compassion is all part of

the job.

The post continued, "Sometimes police work is not cut and dry.

We are people first and cops second."

And in conclusion, the Facebook entry urged any readers who wanted to help West and her

family to try and donate goods or cash to local food banks.

The post picked up lots of media attention, too, and Lieutenant Davis Trimmer, Hillsborough

Police Patrol Commander, later spoke to reporters from ABC News.

He said, "We had an overwhelming outpouring of offers to help [West as a result of the

post], and we are referring all offers to local food banks…

[West] has gotten help and will be directed to programs that are local that can assist

her in the future."

Unfortunately, though, West's tale of woe is not an isolated case.

North Carolina is one of the most impoverished parts of the U.S., and things seem to be getting

worse.

According to the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, almost 60,000 individuals

a week are given food handouts in this region.

And about 50 percent of these food recipients are either senior citizens or children.

At the same time, although West's tale had an uplifting end in this particular chapter,

her story isn't over.

The unemployed mom is still to face criminal charges for her shoplifting episode.

West was contrite about her crime, however, and offered an apology.

She told the BBC, "I had to go out and steal food, and that's desperate, and I'm sorry

for doing what I did, but my kids were hungry."

In any case, though, Bradshaw and Spragins should be applauded for their generosity in

a modern America where sometimes the job of the police is to protect and serve food.

Who Won Tonight's Mega Millions for March 27, 2018? | Heavy.com | SML TV - Duration: 6:05.

Who Won Tonight's Mega Millions for March 27, 2018? | Heavy.com

The Mega Millions drawing for Tuesday, March 27, 2018, is for an estimated $458 million.

But has anyone won yet? Once again, no one has won tonight's Mega Millions jackpot, so the jackpot is now going to increase to $502 million for Friday night, March 30.

Today's jackpot may not be the largest jackpot in Mega Millions' history, but it's getting close: tonight's jackpot was the fourth largest in Mega Millions history.

Whenever someone wins the main jackpot, the Mega Millions website updates to show that the jackpot is starting over at $40 million.

Since no one won tonight, the website updated to show an increased jackpot.

It typically takes Mega Millions about two hours to process all the tickets and announce if someone won.

The winning numbers for tonight were 7 – 25 – 43 – 56 – 59  and a Mega Ball of 13 (with a Megaplier of 13.) W.

Since Mega Millions changed the jackpot rules in October 2017, we can expect a better chance that the jackpots will get bigger and bigger and break more records over time.

The largest jackpots in history were: #1) $656 million in March 2012; #2.) $648 million in December 2013; #3.) $536 million in July 2016; and #4.) $451 million in January 2018.

This means that Friday's jackpot will still rank as the fourth-highest in history, just shy of surpassing the third-biggest Mega Millions jackpot.

When someone eventually does win the jackpot on a future drawing, it could still take a while before we find out their identity (if ever.) Some states allow a few weeks to claim a prize and other states allow winners to take up to a year to claim them.

Beyond that, some states even allow winners to stay anonymous.

And as for the ones who don't — well, those rules might be changing soon, thanks to a recent Powerball jackpot winner in New Hampshire.

Although New Hampshire rules allow people who win games like Powerball to take up to a one year from the draw date to claim their prize, New Hampshire law also requires the winner's name, town, and amount won be available for public information.

The winner was able to file a lawsuit and stay anonymous while claiming the winnings through an anonymous trust even though they had originally signed their winning ticket with their name.

The odds of winning Mega Millions are 1 in 302.6 million, which are actually less than the odds of winning the Powerball, which is 1 in 292.2 million.

Mega Millions recently changed its rules in October 2017, making the odds of winning the big jackpot lower (they used to be 1 in 258.9 million.) On October 28, 2017, Mega Millions increased the cost of buying a ticket from $1 to $2.

They increased the starting jackpot to $40 million, and changed the play structure.

Instead of picking five numbers out of 75 and 1 number out of 15, players now pick five numbers from 1 to 70 and and one number from 1 to 25.

In order to win tonight's jackpot, you'd need to match all five white balls and the yellow Mega ball.

If you match all five white numbers only, you'll win $1 million (and more if you're using a Mega plier option.) If you match 4 white and the yellow, you'll win $10,000.

If you match 4 white only, you'll win $500.

If you match 3 white and 1 yellow, you'll win $200.

If you match 3 white only or if you match 2 white and 1 yellow, you'll win $10.

If you match one white and one yellow, you'll win $4.

If you only match the yellow, you'll win $2.

But if you only match one white ball, you won't win anything.
