Hello, welcome to "counseling & words"
and to my word of today. It's the English
word "insouciant". "Insouciant" is an
adjective and it means being
light-hearted and free from concern,
worry or anxiety. Insouciant came from
France to England around 1820; and it's
not used often nowadays. But I think a
word like insouciant is highly needed in
a world that doesn't seem to be a place
of comfort and safety anymore. When you
think about the future are you filled
with hope or worry? If you are like most
people it's probably anxiety and worry.
Your mind feels unsettled. You worry
because you realise that you can't
predict what's going to happen tomorrow;
and you know that you cannot have full
control over how events turn out. You are
worried, because you don't have certainty.
The requirements for life are constantly
growing and we are overwhelmed by stress
and responsibilities. Political trends
and environmental problems are not very
reassuring either. Insouciant - free from
concern, worry, and anxiety. But how can we
get there?
The key here is actually to be aware of
where you want to go. But give your full
attention to the step that you are
taking at this moment. Realise that all
actions can only be taken now. Any
planning or working towards a goal can
only be taken now! And any lesson you've
learned from the past can only be
applied now, at this moment. So how can
you live with less stress, and worry, and
anxiety? How can you live insouciantly?
Just relax and handle the present moment
that's in front of you! That was about my
English word "insouciant".
