Waching daily May 4 2017

Today we're going to deal with one of the greatest myths about the Middle East.

We're told that The two main branches of Islam, the Sunnis and the Shias, have fought

each other forever, and there's nothing we can do about it.

On the surface level this looks right.

Sunnis and Shias are now fighting each other as intensely as they ever have.

It's pretty horrible.

But It's not a story about immutable 1400 year old hatreds.

It's a story about very recent history, and the politics of the past 30 years.

The first thing to know, is that this is not an even fight.

Only 10-15% of muslims are Shia, and they only fully control two of the dozens of Muslim

countries.

If this were an eternal 1400 year battle, it would have been over 1200 years ago, and

all the Shia would be dead.

But the United States government really hates Iran, so we're sold the story that this

is somehow an even fight, and if we don't help Saudi Arabia and the Sunnis, Iran's

gonna control everything.

Like a lot of what the US government pushes, this is just ridiculous.

It's politics that makes wars, not religion.

And that's the problem of the Middle East today.

It's not that the region is special or different.

It's just that the cold war never ended in the Middle East.

From World War II through the 1980s the United States and the Soviet Union competed worldwide.

This turned a lot of places that are peaceful and prosperous today into war zones.

Iraq and Syria are horrible, but in the 1980's we had at least 10 separate Syrias going on.

When the Cold War ended, the rest of the world got much safer.

The Middle East didn't get that chance.

The region only has to deal with one super-power now, but it's also got to deal with a number

of local powers.

None of these powers will let the wars stop.

The Shia-Sunni divide certainly exists, but that's not what is at the root of these

conflicts.

It's power and money.

Same as it ever was.

If you want to learn more about the true problems of the region, I suggest you check out my

essay Everybody's Lying About Islam.

Also, you may want to consider chipping into my Patreon account.

YouTube just dramatically cut the revenue of all political news channels.

If my Patreon funding doesn't go up dramatically very soon, I'm afraid this channel may have

to end.

Thanks.

#OneOfUs - Saying 'Yes' with Bennett McClellan - Duration: 1:58.

I tell people when they ask the question: "How did you get to India?"

I said, "I said 'yes'."

"How did you get to be this?"

"I said 'yes'."

And I think that's really been the hallmark of I what I've tried to do is say 'yes'

to interesting opportunities and not really worry too much about – does it all add up?

I've come to the point of defining myself as a person who changes careers, who is an

aggressive learner, who bases their ability to earn a living on the ability to teach other

people—whether it's raw food, philosophy, management, filmmaking, whatever it might be.

I was asked a couple of years ago by a guy named Dr. David Drew – "What do you want

to do in 5 years?"

I said, "David, I don't know.

But I can tell you what I want to do in 15 years."

So it's one of those longer term perspectives

as you collect as many experiences as you can and I think it's what adds up to an artistic

life as opposed to a career.

Any profession involves some kind of trade off costs.

If you decide you're an investment banker and you spend 40 years in investment banking,

what it means is you don't get to be a photographer.

You don't get to be a lot of other things.

So any career is inevitably a choice of what not to do.

And to the extent that you're actively involved in your choices, then I think that makes you

happy.

So you say, "I chose this.

Well, I'm not as rich or not as this.

I didn't do that, didn't do this."

Who chose?

You did.

Ok, be happy with your choices.

To the extent you don't choose, then you feel a victim.

And I think really any career, any career path, the person involved is happier, more

productive and better off ultimately if they get to choose.

If you're not confident about pursuing your passions, you're not confident about pursuing life

because life is about passions.

The Ferrari 458-Powered Toyota 86 Is Absolutely Epic - Duration: 2:20.

The Ferrari 458-Powered Toyota 86 Is Absolutely Epic

Especially when drifting.

This isn't the first time we've witnessed Ryan Tuerck's ridiculously awesome Frankenstein Toyota GT86.

More precisely, he calls it the GT4586 because of its Ferrari 458 V8 engine stuffed all nice and cozy under the hood where the puny 20-liter four-cylinder normally sits.

And because Tuerck is a pro drifter, he loves nothing more than to hoon the absolute crap out of his creation. Be jealous.

We are. And now there's new footage of Tuerck doing his thing with his GT4586 at Formula Drift Orlando.

He's not even competing yet and already he can't stop hooning the thing between practice sessions. It sounds amazing. It looks amazing, and we wish this video lasted longer than 90 seconds.

What the GT4586 really proves is that bonkers engine swaps need to happen way more often. Who cares if the OEM doesn't like it. Ferrari probably hates this thing. Tough shit.

If the engine bay is big enough, or can be modified to be so, then transplanting a bigger, more powerful engine into a smaller and lighter body is completely fair game. Tuerck has totally proven that.

See the making of China's first home built passenger jet airliner - the C919 airliner - Duration: 1:54.

Meet China's first home built passenger jet airliner. China's first big jetliner to make its maiden flight. China's first big passenger jet is set to take to the skies this week. The first test flight of the C919 airliner is scheduled to take place Friday from Shanghai Pudong International Airport, China's official news agency Xinhua reported Wednesday. With the C919, China is aiming to become one of the world's top makers of large commercial aircraft. The 168-seat plane is roughly the same size as Airbus's A320 and Boeing's 737-800, which are the most popular airliners on the planet. The C919 completed its final ground trial less than two weeks ago, demonstrating it can safely stop on the runway if something goes wrong. The maiden flight will be a key milestone for the plane's manufacturer, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, or Comac. But the C919 still has a long way to go before it will be ferrying passengers. The aircraft is likely go through months or years of demanding certification tests, and meeting safety standards might require design changes. Comac will also need to gain the trust of airlines in China and beyond by showing the jet can operate efficiently and reliably on scheduled flights. Getting the C919 to this stage has taken a long time. China's state-owned airlines first signed up to buy the plane in 2010, and it was initially slated to enter service last year. But the prototype wasn't unveiled until November 2015, and the program has been beset by technical delays as China has gotten to grips with airliner development. airplanes, airplanes crash, airplanes taking off and landing, air crash investigation, air show, air force one, flying, flight, flight test, flight deck, flight simulator, flight simulator 2015, pilot films, pilot training, pilot, pilot life, pilot eye, pilot eye tv, cockpit, cockpit view, cockpit videos, cockpit view takeoff, cockpit view landing, cockpit view fighter jet, cockpit landing,
