Korean developers are combining robotics and virtual reality.

Among their creations is a new amusement park ride that's taking the country's VR entertainment

industry to the next level.

Lee Ji-won reports.

This amusement park is home to a very special ride.

People put on a pair of virtual reality goggles, hop onto the robot... and they're off on an

adventure.

It's Korea's first ride to ever combine virtual reality and robotics.

"It was like the movie 'Transformers' The 360-degree rotation was really fun."

"While other attractions are just fun, this one felt like I actually became the robot.

It felt so real."

As the world becomes more engaged with the fourth industrial revolution, virtual reality

and robotics have been developing at a rapid pace.

But to optimize the technologies, the interface between the two is crucial.

"The robots used in these rides are industrial robots that are programmed to move only in

straight lines.

To enable the designers to move the robots freely, in sync with the graphics, a special

program was developed."

The programmers developed a plug-in to add specific features to the graphic program the

designers use.

The plug-in allows designers to run a simulation of how the robots will move, without having

to learn the programming language anew,... so they can make decisions about when the

robot will move and how much.

Next, the data on the simulation is passed on to the engineering team,... which translates

it into actual robot movements -- a process as simple as copying the numbers from the

plug-in and transferring them to the robot.

"Thanks to the simulation program, we don't have to physically try everything out.

But sometimes there are things we can't know, like restrictions in the environment, so in

that case, the engineers come in to adjust small details."

After the adjustments are complete,... the ride is ready to go and it's moved to its

final destination.

"Our 'space team' works on installing the ride in the target environment.

They map out the area and compare it to the robot's movements so the robot has all the

room it needs to move around."

Developers plan to further enhance the ride by adding features that allow riders to control

certain movements.

They plan to keep the ride fresh for visitors by changing the virtual reality content to

match seasonal events, including Halloween and Christmas.

Raw (2016) - Movie Review - Duration: 4:54.

Hello Youtube, I'm Torstein from Cinema Terror and today I will be talking about the fresh,

new French-Belgium film called Raw.

If you follow new horror movies then you will have heard about this movie as it has caused

quite some stir at some of its festival screenings during the last year.

Let me just tell you that all the hype of Raw being a brutal and extreme movie is something

you need to forget about right away.

The stories about viewers puking and / or fainting during the screening might be true,

but it is a strong misrepresentation of what type of movie Raw really is.

Raw is not a continuation of the French extreme cinema that dominated European horror ten

years ago with movies such as Martyrs and Inside in the forefront.

As a matter of fact, it can be discussed if Raw can be categorized as an extreme move

at all, because even if it does have some scenes that might make the stumach move a

bit for some people, experienced horror fans won't find anything to make their faces turn

red or purple on this one.

What everyone that gives the film a fair chance will find however is a fantastic well made

dark comedy of a movie that should please both the horror and the arthouse crowd.

The now 33 year old director Julia Ducournau was able to redefine what a cannibal film

could be with this film.

No longer is the genre defined only by the Italian cannibal movies of the glorious 70's,

where they took you out of the civilized society and out into the deepest amazon jungles and

the flesh eating was done by so-called savages.

In Raw, the cannibalism is set in the middle of our modern western society as we are presented

with several grades of cannibalism as we follow the 16 year old shy vegetarian Justine, played

by Garance Marillier, during the brutal freshman week at the veterinarian school she has enrolled

at.

If you think that American movies has had a merciless portrayal of college years, then

you have not seen what the new students has to go through to be accepted by the senior

students at this French school.

In good old «coming of age» form, this ends up being a week that will change the life

of Justine forever, just not in the way that growing up changes the life of other young

adults.

The torment that she is put through by the older students are nothing compared to the

struggle she has to go through with her very own body after she for the first time in her

life is forced to eat animal meat.

What ensues is an exploration of puberty urges, both in a physical and metaphorical sense,

while we also get commentaries on just how brutal youth culture of today can be.

The rawness of it all gives the title a meaning and it is reflected in the themes that the

movie brings up.

All of this are captured quite nicely with a mixture of realism and color use by cinematographer

Ruben Impens to the point that some have even compared the look of the film to Dario Argento's

masterpiece Suspiria, although personally I feel a much better comparision would be

Nicolas Winding Refn's The Neon Demon.

There is an eye for details in Ducournaus directing that gives the movie its own style,

something that French filmmakers have been experts in since the birth of cinema.

The balance between genres, thematic and entertainment puts Ducournau high on the list of new filmmakers

that are worth keeping an eye on.

Raw is also another proof in that female directors are much needed in the world of cinema.

It is a shame that we still make a point out of the fact that the director of a movie is

a female in 2017 and hopefully that is not a fact that we will even take into consideration

ten years from now.

As moviegoers we are basically being robbed by new visionary filmmakers as it still is

harder than it should be for female filmmakers to get projects off the ground in this still

very male dominated business.

Looking at the themes and the way the females are being portrayed and shot in Raw makes

it clear that there is no attempts at all to try to hide the fact that the vision comes

from a female director.

This is also something that has made some critics label Ducournau as a feminist filmmaker,

which is unfair as it's not like we put a male chauvinistisk label on a filmmaker

like Rob Daniel due to the fact that he directed Teen Wolf.

Raw is a great movie for those who might be unfamiliar, but curious about European cinema

of today.

It is accessible enough to make it a gateway movie into French cinema for those who are

used to films delivered by the Hollywood machine.

Raw is what would happen if David Cronenberg was born in France and was put on the task

to direct Ginger Snaps.

If you want a challenging body horror movie with its own style, impressive acting and

enough symbolism to keep it in your thoughts for a few days afterwards, then Raw is the

movie for you.

Just don't go into the movie expecting an extreme and gory horror film.

Raw gets a strong score of a 4.5 out of 5.

Have you catched Raw yet and if so what did you think of it?

What other new horror movie are you looking forward to this year?

Let me know about it in the comment section below, subscribe if you liked this video and

of course, thank you for watching.

The threat Donald Trump poses to democracy is not overblown - Duration: 7:55.

The threat Donald Trump poses to democracy is not overblown

in just 100 days, President Donald Trump has damaged American democracy while simultaneously accelerating democracys global decline.

No, Trump is not a dictator or a fascist, as some wrongly claimed. But he certainly has authoritarian tendencies and a baffling admiration for despots.

He has a penchant for attacking democratic institutions and appears willing to sacrifice them in a heartbeat on the altar of his ego.

And he has spouted several dangerous lies that a sizable portion of his political base unfortunately believes to be true. As a result, he has already managed to do major damage to democracy at home and abroad in five important ways.

First, he has undercut the integrity of U.S. elections. Trump falsely claimed that millions of people voted illegally last year. Thats not true.

Every serious study into voter fraud has concluded that it is a minuscule problem. North Carolina conducted a vote audit for 2016, and found one case of in-person voter impersonation — out of millions of ballots cast.

And yet tens of millions of Americans now wrongly believe that millions voted illegally. That is a serious challenge to public faith in the bedrock of American democracy. Trump also actively solicited and took advantage of Russian meddling in U.S. elections.

He invited Russia to hack and publish Hillary Clintons emails. He mentioned WikiLeaks 164 times in the final month of the campaign (Trumps CIA director subsequently labeled WikiLeaks as a hostile intelligence service).

The hacking of the Democratic National Committee was a brazen cyberattack on U.S. democracy and yet Trump has consistently been an apologist who plays down the hack rather than working to ensure it never happens again.

(By the way, there is still an active FBI investigation into whether he or his campaign colluded with Russia in that attack). Second, he has attacked democratic institutions such as the free press and the independent judiciary.

He has repeatedly dismissed credible, corroborated, truthful reporting as fake news. But Trump has also maligned judges in highly personal and reckless ways simply because they ruled against his administration.

His White house claimed that some judges (who were simply doing their job) provided a gift to the criminal gang and cartel element in our country. He has called others so-called judges and claimed that it would be the fault of the courts if a terrorist attacked occurred during his presidency.

This incendiary language is unacceptable and erodes public trust in checks and balances that are at the core of the U.S. democratic system.

Third, he has brazenly violated basic standards of transparency and government ethics. Democracy requires transparency. If citizens are not informed about the workings of their government, they cannot hold it accountable.

Just take his continuing refusal to release his tax returns — something that has been done by every presidential candidate since the 1970s.

At first he used the extraordinarily flimsy excuse of an audit, but now he has even abandoned that fig leaf. Until Trump issues his tax returns, we dont know whether he is governing for American interests or his bank account.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has announced that it wont release White House visitor logs — so nobody can see who is coming and going to meet the president.

Is there an endless stream of lobbyists? Or perhaps some high-profile foreign agents, like the ones he previously hired for his campaign? We have no clue, because Trump reversed an Obama-era policy to tell the American people who is coming to the taxpayer-funded White House.

This lack of transparency also bleeds into ethics violations and conflicts of interest that have gone unpunished — from using taxpayer dollars to promote Trump businesses to currying favor with foreign leaders apparently to receive lucrative trademarks abroad.

Fourth, Trump has hurt democracy abroad by leaving pro-democracy reformers out in the cold. When protesters took to the streets in Belarus and Russia demanding democratic reforms, Trump said nothing.

That was a strategic mistake. These were protests in favor of democracy and against regimes that oppose the United States, so it should have been a no-brainer.

Instead, Trump stayed silent as protesters were beaten in the streets. It was a missed opportunity and a gift to the forces that seek to undermine democratic reform abroad.

Fifth, Trump has endorsed and applauded dictators and despots, giving awful rulers a free pass to destroy democracy and violate human rights. He uncritically embraced President Abdel Fatah al-Sissi of Egypt, a military dictator who routinely tortures dissidents.

He called to congratulate President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey on winning a rigged referendum that dismantled democracy in a NATO member state.

Those signals have certainly not been lost on authoritarian rulers around the world who recognize that Trump does not care about democracy or human rights abroad.

As a result, a decade of decline for democracy around the world will almost certainly accelerate.

Donald Trump is a unique threat to democracy in a way that we havent experienced before. Initial fears may have been overblown, but its clear that he already is slowly but meaningfully eroding democracy at home and abroad.

We must be vigilant. There are 1,358 days left.
