Hey YouTube! This is Geekinit! Today I want to
show you an application I use all the
time called Spectacle for managing
windows on a Mac. I find that this application
is really necessary for me to do a lot
of development that I do where I have
many windows open all the time and it's
really it's really great. So here we go!
[Ambient Sounds]
Ok so the first thing I want to show you
is how to download the application
Pretty straightforward. You go to
spectacleapp.com and click download
Once the applications downloaded, you have
to extract, and then you drag it to
applications and I already have it
installed. Okay so once spectacle is open,
you're going to see these icon up in
the top bar that looks like a
pair of glasses and basically at this
point it'll work, however I want
to show you some of the things that it
does.. so now the application
installed say we want to take this
chrome window and we want to make it go
we want to align it to the left.. so what we do in
that case is we would push option
command left arrow or option command
right arrow
If you want to do the top, you do option command
up top and option being down so I'm gonna
do off she can even left and you'll see
that it takes up at the screen so then
we could open up command n we can open
up another instance and put it over on
the right so I really like this you know
it's kind of like the Windows Snap
feature. You can do other things like if you
want to go to a third, you push it um it
will go from half this is the same key
that pushing is option command left it
will do the first time it gets half of your
screen the second time it does
two-thirds of your screen and the third
time it does a third of your screen so
if you want to depending on how you want
to organize your windows.. just using
these shortcuts prove to be
beneficial. One of the things that I
really like about it is the ability for
it to go fullscreen. So as you know we have
this full screen on the latest Mac OS,
however that will actually go fullscreen..
you lose your dock, you lose your status
bar, or you can hold down your option key
hit and click it it just never really
does what I want it never really makes
me makes it take up the full screen so
what we can do.. is we can use this full
screen which is option + command + F to go
fullscreen now I found that that
keyboard shortcut actually conflicted
with some of the stuff that I do like an
Xcode so what I do tend to play with
that if I change these I change the
center from option command C to control
option command C and then I change full
screen from option command ask to
control option command up arrow I really
like that I found that that works better
for me but it is a customization that
you can do of course you can always
revert back to defaults and it one thing
to that when you first install this you
have to click this launch spectacled it
it login if you wanted to start every
time so again is there's a bunch of
different things you can do control
option left arrow will do thirds and if
you just push the air keep air key it
will cycle through all these different
variations of thirds of your screen if
you want to go between monitors its
control option command right so it'll
take it over to your other monitor then
you can pull screen it over there I
really like that it's a great way
because if you have multiple monitors to
get things moved around the position
quickly or you would like them so that's
it I hope you enjoyed my video don't
forget to Like and subscribe if you want
to see more videos like this I do plan
to do a lot more videos specifically
with development and you'll see this
particular window management occurring
and it's kind of all NGI's now
so anyways thanks a lot for watching our
video have a great day
