Philip announced recently he is stepping down from his public duties.

After the recent announcement that Prince Philip, 95 years old, would be stepping down

from his public duties later this year, it immediately became clear that Prince William,

Prince Harry, and Kate Middletonat the front of the Royal Family: Next Generation

pack would be taking over a large portion of Philips responsibilities.

Now were starting to get a sense of just how thats going to be playing out.

Per the Mirror, Harry will be replacing his grandfather as the head of the royal marines.

The decision has reportedly been approved by Major General Rob Magowan, though it still

needs to be decreed acceptable by the Queen herself.

(Philip has served as the ceremonial head of the unit since 1953.)

A senior officer at the Royal Marines told the publication that much will be expected

from Harry in the new position, noting Philip will be a hard act to follow. The source

explained, The invite if acceptable is for Prince Harry to step into uniform and

support his grandfather and eventually take over as Captain General. As the Daily Mail

explains it, the position has great prestige among the marines, as Harry would be receiving

regular reports on the goings on and would work with the organization on events.

Philip was known to frequently visit the marines at both their headquarters and abroad.

Harry who is not currently affiliated with any military organizations in an honorary

role would come into the position with experience with the marines, having been a part of the

40 commando unit in Helmond in 2008, and having flown Apache helicopters in 2012 as part of

a marine operation tracking Taliban commanders.

Harry, as of late, has been stepping into a more mature public persona . Seemingly close

to an engagement with girlfriend Meghan Markle, the prince is a long way away from his days

of partying and carousing.

He recently spoke out about mental health issues with an openness quite unprecedented

for a member of the royal family, explaining that he had sought the help of a therapist

following his mothers death.

His Invictus Games and other charitable causes continue to be a focal point of his public

life; carrying on his grandfathers legacy in uniform is just one more step in that public

service direction.
