On a festival that is organized by the promoters of the festival in Kavarna.
Yes, and I'm so glad to come back in Bulgaria!
I can't wait for this to happen.
I'm really excited.
The festival in Kavarna was amazing.
We have played twice there.
I remember the mayor, who turned out to be a big fan of rock music.
We had a great party for my birthday.
Actually, our birthdays coincided, because we were both born on 3 June.
Our last visit was amazing and I'm really glad I'll have a concert in Bulgaria.
I know this time we will be a Midalidare.
We have prepared a great set and we will perform only hits.
Now that you mentioned the setlist, can you give us more details?
Yes,yes, we definitely want to play all the highlights of Warlock and DORO
like "All we are", "I rule the ruins", "Burning the witches".
Anthems that people always want to hear and to sing along with us.
Of course "Raise your fist" from the last DORO album.
Also all hits from all albums like "Hellbound".
We might as well do a duet with a vocalist of another band from the participants.
Maybe with us on stage will be Gotthard's vocalist.
Sometimes someone just goes up on stage with us and we perform a song together.
But the set is from classics, without loosing anyone's time.
Only the best from us.
Does it happen often with you on stage to go up members of other bands?
Not so much. But when somebody wants to come up on stage it's usually so much fun you know. And it's not a problem.
We have so much fun, we improvise and sometimes it works out better than what we have done during rehearsals.
I like such adventures.
It might not have been the perfect performance, the lyrics might have been wrong, the words different,
But for the fans such spontaneous performances are always special.
I love such performances, it doesn't matter they are not perfect, but they are spontaneous.
The fun is complete and they are unique.
Do you have such moments which are of much value to you?
Yeah, many times when I did a duet with Lemmy. He was on stage at my 20th anniversary .
We performed "Love me forever" then on stage came up his drummer Mikkey Dee and decided he wanted to play the song.
It was a great performance. The entire venue got goosebumps.
The cheers were one after another. It was a very emotional moment.
I like such moments. I have been on stage with Udo Dirkschneider a few times.
At my 30th anniversary we performed "Fast as a shark" and "Balls to the wall". It was fantastic.
We also sang the wonderful ballad "Dancing with an angel". I can say I collect such special moments.
One time when we did a really long American tour with Dio the greatest moment was during a show in Florida.
Ronnie invited me to sing with him during the encore. I told him I was not very well prepare to perform his songs.
He answered me that it didn't matter. He greeted me warmly and we sang the last 3 songs together.
We were side by side, dancing together. The fans sang along with us. It was an amazing experience.
Pitifully, this was in 2000 when there were no cell phones and I don't any videos from this performance.
Nothing was shot by a video camera. I have only photos from our performance together.
But I have never watched a video of it.
This says one of the coolest moments in my career. And every time someone joins us on stage it's awesome.
It doesn't matter if he's from a famous band or from the support team. It's important to have fun.
We will do it until we have fun. For me it's always an honour when someone joins us on stage.
You have a lot of interesting stories to tell.
Yeah, so many over the years, I'm definitely ready to write a book or five books. There are so many.
We have ups and downs, adventures, which I have never expected would happen.
But definitely one of my peak moments is the concert in Bulgaria on my birthday.
I can't wait to come back.
Also, in Bulgaria we have great fans!
I have an amazing fan page in Facebook which they support.
They upload the coolest photos, which are always current.
Sometimes they even are ahead of us and upload a photo before we do.
This has always surprised me.
People are so into us and support us so much. I love this attitude.
It has always made me go on forward, work harder, do the best show I am capable of.
Thanks to those amazing people. I'm very lucky, I'm so blessed, I'm so happy.
You said you could write a book with the stories, but what would it be called?
One book should definitely be about the fans.
I have already done something for them, I have a tattoo on my arm.
I did it for my 30th anniversary and it means "The one who loves the fans. Fur immer!"
Fur immer means "forever".
So i would definitely dedicate a book to the fans, where I will tell about the great moments with them.
It will be the greatest book ever written.
Everything else will be about business, other bands, but the fans-this is love.
Deep friendship outside of time.
This will be the title of my first book and it will be the most important book in my life.
Are there any hard moments you will not share in the book?
Since I'm doing it for such a long time, you can imagine I've experienced so much.
In the beginning we were so naive, we were teenagers. My drummer was 15, I was 16 or 17.
We believed the people around us will be good and will like the band and the music.
Realizing that some people are with us just for the money and not for the music and the band was a cruel experience.
Sometimes I have experienced disappointing moments
I have a lot of stories from them and especially for people I have considered very close.
I know this is very often seen in this business and lots of bands have lived it.
People you think support you, follow you, you think are friends, stay close to you when you are not in shape.
And at some moment when things with the band fall apart they leave without explanation.
This happened to us in the 90s when metal wasn't as big as the 80s.
But this is life. You live, learn, get more experienced.
The more experience you have the more you learn how to deal with different situations and with not so good moments.
This is why you should always walk forward. To be strong, tough.
To do what you love no matter what it is.
I have learned a lot from the bad experience I have had.
You mentioned the 1st book will be about the fans.
Are there moments when they have stepped over the line with you?
Never. They have always respected my personal space. They are 100% gentlemen.
They have always supported me and their support has been great.
I get so much love from them. They have never permitted anything that I consider too much.
It still hasn't happen to me and after so many years they have stayed gentlemen.
My fans are amazing, they know where to stop and have never provoked me with something bad.
I hope they will never do it.
What is the weirdest wish a fan has told you?
It's always like: let's get married.
I responded that they don't know me and that they won't like my turbo every day life together with 20 more people.
They have always wanted from me normal things.
Usually related with friendship.
When someone proposes to me I usually respond that I am married to the metal and the fans.
In my life it has never had space for a real husband. I want them to know that.
I remember one boy, a fan, he looked very young.
During a signing session he gave me a photo, I signed it and when I gave it back to him, he asked me if I would marry him.
I asked him how old was he, he said he will soon be 16. I told him I could be his mother.
He said this didn't bother him at all.
Then I asked him how many of my records he has.
And he replied he has only the last one.
Only the last one, we have 17 more. I don't know he knew that.
I think it was "Raise your fist". His age doesn't presume he has the old ones.
It was really a cute experience.
DORO's last album was released in 2012. Will we hear new music from you soon?
We are in the middle of doing the new record.
Actually now we have finished 60-70 % of the recordings.
And the disk should be out in the of of this year or in the beginning of the next one.
By the way, after Raise your fist we recorded an awesome DVD-Strong and proud.
In it we have included the concerts for my 30th anniversary. One was in Wacken and the other with an orchestra.
Many big musicians and our friends are in it. It came out in the middle of last year.
We worked on it for two years. It consists of 3 disks. I wanted to be sure it will look and sound perfectly.
Now we are working on a new album. There will be a song about Lemmy that will be named"Living life to the fullest".
And many other great hymns, killer fast metal songs, ballads.
I am happy with how things are working out.Everything is turning out great and I hope the fans will like it.
We performed "Love's gone to hell" a few times live.
I also thing we will play the song during some of the summer festivals.
I'm a big fan of Amon Amarth. I really like them and their music.
They called me year and half ago, i accepted, we recorded the song in Birmingham with the producer Andy Sneap.
I have always wanted to work with him and this song turned out to be an amazing chance.
It turned out great. It's included in the album Jomsviking .
I think the duet with Johan Hegg is great. The recordings were really fun.
I like viking metal bands including Amon Amarth.
They are amazing boys, partyheads and Johan is a great frontman.
He reminds me a little of young James Hetfield.
There's so much positive energy in him. I love him.
