Perfect Travel Luggage 10 Tips To Find The BEST Luggage For You
[0:00:00] Do you like to travel? I know I do.
So, this Thursday I'm going to Chicago. Saturday, I'm flying down to Pensacola,
Florida, then I'm taking a road trip. We're going to go through Alabama, we're going
to go through Mississippi, going to go through Louisiana, all the way through Texas to New
Mexico. Then, from New Mexico, I'll probably fly back up to Chicago. Then in November,
I'm going to London for three weeks. In February, I'm flying back to Florida and
then, I'm going to go through South Carolina and Georgia on my way driving back to Wisconsin.
Oh, and by the way, I just took a six-month trip with my family, we hit twenty two states
and three countries. Guys, I spend a lot of time living out in the suitcase and I can
tell you the right luggage matters. In today's video, I'm going to give you
ten tips so that you can go out and find the best luggage that's going to suit your particular
needs. [Music]
All right, gentlemen, here it is my perfect piece of luggage. Now, this has been a perfect
piece for me and I want to stress, I want you to use this checklist. Everything I'm
going to put out here to find the perfect piece for you because for me as busy professional,
someone that carries camera equipment, I wanted hard covered – I wanted hard luggage. Something
that whether or not I'm traveling on the small commuter aircraft and they say, oh,
you got to check this, so it has to go under, I want to be able to protect my camera equipment.
Or if it's – I wanted a size that was actually if I take it on a bigger aircraft
they're not going to have an issue and it will fit in the overheard above. And, I just
want it so that my stuff can be protected. And this one has gone through a beating and
has taken everything that was thrown at it. So, if you're wondering who made this bag
right here, this is Genius Pack. And they are the paid sponsor of this video and I'm
proud to have them as the paid sponsor because I have loved and used their gear. And all
the examples I'm going to be using here are from Genius Pack. I'm going to link
to them down in the description and you can go and there's a great discount code for
you to use. It's a limited time discount code.
I love what they're doing over there and like I said I only recommend it because I
love their gear. It's solid stuff, but when you're using the checklist and information
I'm putting out there, you can apply this to anything because you may say, you know,
I'm not a hard luggage kind of guy, I'm going to be – I want a leather bag or I'm
a soft luggage kind of person or I want something that's going to be of a brighter color that's
going to have neon stripes on it so I can easily identify it. Whatever it may be, use
this information and go out there and make the smart purchasing decision for you.
Tip number one to buying the perfect piece of luggage. Buy the right size. I know guys
it sounds obvious, but so many people go out there and they buy the wrong size. What they
often do is they buy something that's too large and when you buy something that's
too large or even on the border, what happens is you overstuff it. And next thing you know
you've got to check that in, it's too heavy, it's too big.
Have you ever had that happened? I know we have. And it just is so frustrating when you've
got to pay that extra money, it's like we're going to take this on the plane with us. Dimensions
and weights, this changes a lot. But, in the support article I'm going to link to it
down in the description, I actually link we printed the charts, so for the different airlines
to try to make it easy for you. But the point is, buy the right size for you. So it may
be, hey, you're just going for a one day trip, can you take a simple professional backpack
which is going to hold your computer, hold one change of clothes and you'll be fine.
I find that packing light and always trying to go with a smaller bag. Maybe it's going
to be something like a simple portfolio, you're going for a day trip, you're not disappearing
for a month. But, if you are disappearing for two weeks, you're going to travel, you
may find that a big like this and by packing an interchangeable wardrobe you're going
to get more. Something like this is going to fit on pretty much any airline, it's
not going to – you don't have to check this in and it's going to stay within weight
constrictions if you don't put like, you know, lead weights in there.
Now, speaking of weight which is point number two, you got to make sure that your luggage
is lightweight. Now, a lot of – the nicer luggage, the stuff that cost a bit more, what
you're oftentimes paying for is it's made from materials that are lightweight. They're
going to save you money. This piece right here 6 lbs or just over 6 lbs. What does that
do? It gives me plenty of weight to be able to pack and to be able to load things up.
Weigh the luggage, if you are questionable. I remember I had one piece of luggage and
this was when we're traveling international. I think you get like 50 lbs. The piece of
luggage itself was 20 lbs. Can you imagine that? I mean I've already lost 40% of the
weight I can take on the airplane in the luggage, so pay attention to the weight.
Next stop, we've got internal capacity and that's not the same as the dimensions. It
would sound like it should be, but internal capacity, you want to open up the luggage
you want to look in, okay, have they made it – have they done a good job not wasting
space not basically eliminating and making it so that you can open and you can use every
available inch. Sometimes you've got pieces of luggage they just create dead space, you
want to avoid that. [0:04:52]
So, while we're on the inside of the luggage let's look at pouches. I really like having
a set number of pouches so that you can, you know, certain items may be that you want to
keep and have easy access to. Other times you got something you just don't want to
lose, you don't want to get lost into the luggage. Now, what I like about Genius Pack,
they've got this checklist for me. They've got individual items. Even if I don't use
these for these items, I like that they remind me to actually pack them. It's something
that I haven't seen any other luggage company do.
I also like they've got compression right in here. These compression straps and what
that does I can pack the luggage up, I can put the straps over, so if I opened the luggage
I forget something right here in the airport, I don't have my clothing falling out.
Item number five to look at. You want to make sure to use a heavy duty zipper. You want
something that is not going to get torn off. I've seen really small zippers. The problem
is is that this gets twisted off right here. You want something that is made from steel
that is almost overly built and you want that zipper to move smoothly. If it's giving
you trouble when you first looking to purchase it, don't go with it. It's not going to
get better over time. Next stop, you want to look at the handles.
Here's a quick story. My mom had a cheap piece of luggage that she -- I don't know
where she bought this thing. It looked nice. And she gave it to us and I remember we were
as soon as I picked it up for at the airport, the piece – that handle just came right
off. I was just like, oh, my gosh. Now, you want something and you want to hold on. You
want to make sure this thing is not coming off.
Next stop, let's talk about the materials that the luggage is made from. So, leather.
I love leather. It's a luxury material and over time I think it can look better and better.
It can deal with a lot of beating and it's just one of the most durable materials out
there. The issue with leather is it it can be marked and damaged especially with something
sharp. It could cut right into the leather and then you've got that luxury good that
was so expensive all of a sudden is going to be very, very difficult to repair. Another
thing with leather is it's got to be conditioned and taken care of. It can also be affected
by certain dyes. And leather in general is going to be more expensive.
Now, nylons and various synthetic materials are great especially those that are made like
with the ballistic nylon or something, it's got a very tough stitch. This is something
you'll get spilled on, usually cleaned very easily. It's going to be inexpensive and
it may be viewed as a bit cheaper. Now, hard luggage, you're going to see that
made from metal, you're going to see that made from various plastics out there. Usually
the metals are going to be more expensive. This one is made from a very tough type of
resin or a plastic here. I have had great luck with this particular one from Genius
Pack. Like I said the other bag I've had it for three years, I've never like nothing
shattered or broken on it. I like hard luggage and the reason being is I take delicate equipment
with me. There are certain pieces out there you can pay a lot of money for and they are
going to be like incredibly crush resistant. So, if that is your need definitely check
those out. All right. Next stop, let's talk about wheels.
So, the most common kind we're going to see out there is going to be, well, you've
got the four – the four wheels like this nice roller. I like this. The eight is new
on the block. This is probably a little bit more expensive, I think is great. Now, Genius
Pack has both options. I – I like them both. I have not noticed a difference.
I used to also have it and Genius Pack does have it as well. Well, you've got the two
wheels and I used to prefer the two wheels. I feel when it's set up, you know, it's
not going to roll around, it's a bit more stable. I liked the look of the two-wheel,
but now that I've been using the four-wheel a lot more, I just find that it's great.
It oftentimes depends on how do you like to move your luggage.
With this right here, I can have it on all four or all eight wheels and just push it
through the airport. The two wheels I found was great if I was maybe, you know, in Kiev,
Ukraine and I had to like walk half a mile on pretty bad sidewalk then in that case,
I would want to the larger wheel which oftentimes you see on the two-wheel – wheeled vehicles.
Now, what you want to make sure, again, is look at those wheels, make sure that they
roll smooth because if you're going to be covering a lot of mileage in that airport,
you want to make sure they just roll smooth. The next thing to look at is the telescopic
handle. You want to make sure that it goes up and down smoothly especially going back
in. So, it goes out, goes back in. The more spaces that it's actually going to have
the more options, this is basically has two points. So, if you're like 5 foot, basically
you're a 5-foot woman, then you would want to use it at this level. If you're 6'2",
you'd want to use it at that level. So, if you're really tall, really short you're
going to want to make sure that the height works for you.
Another thing I look for in the perfect piece of luggage is it it works with other pieces
and it a sense they work together as a set. So, this is what I mean. So, right here you
knock this up and then this backpack from Genius Pack is all going to work together.
So, you see that right here? So, I've got other pieces of luggage that I've tried
to do this and what the frustration I have in the airport is that they fall over.
So, I like it when pieces work together they connect they come basically together as set.
And I like it when a brand has options like that. Little things too like this portfolio,
what I like about this portfolio is right in here they've got this room for a charger.
So, they sell a charger and I can simply put it in my portfolio very smoothly fits right
in there. Perfect. And, if I need to head out, I've got what I need. So, I love it
when companies think through and they create this smart intelligent design.
[0:10:20] Whoever you go with, whatever you buy, make
sure that it suits your needs. Use this information to find the perfect piece of luggage for you.
And I think it's better to spend a little bit of extra money on something that you love
and every time you use, you get great value from.
Again, the support article is going to go into a lot more detail. I've got all that
information about what are the requirements for weight for dimensions for the different
airlines. And, if you're interested in grabbing something from Genius Pack, do it now because
they've got that discount code. It's only going to last for awhile. I'm going to put
it down in the description of this video. Gents, that's it. Take care. I'll see
you in the next video. [Music]
