Hi mermaids, welcome back to my channel
so...
your girl's been depressed...
Like I said before on my channel, I um
suffer from various mental illnesses
and sometimes I go through a really really
really long episode sometimes.
So yeah, your girl has just been dealing with a really rough episode of depression
and doesn't really feel like filming this week.
So, she has her security blanket,
and she's gonna film for you, and what we're filming today is
basically, honest gold stars that you get when you're depressed.
[ocean sounds]
The reason why I really wanna make this video is because,
on the internet there is a tendency,
to label self care or giving gold stars,
for one, people might not actually have the spoons to do,
and two, things that are very superficial.
Yeah there's this thing on the internet where it's like,
self care is like watching a bunch of movies and
like doing all that and some people just don't have the energy for that.
So I'm here to tell you the honest gold stars that you get,
when you're depressed.
Gold star number one [ding] got out of bed before 3PM.
Um, when you're depressed, you're tired and exhausted.
All the time. Because the voices just don't stop.
So getting out of bed before 3PM is really important.
Showering. Showering is so important!
And like, not only because like, you smell good,
after showering, but it actually helps you feel better.
It detoxifies the skin so physically,
your body is like "oh, this feels nice"
and it sends like neurons to your brain.
The next gold star is, doing a chore around the house.
So today, I'm going to do laundry,
or at least that's my plan.
The next gold star is feeding yourself,
when you're depressed you forget to eat.
Some people overeat, some people forget to eat, etc.
Eating is so important, it's good for your body.
You will feel way more fatigued if you're not eating.
Next gold star: didn't cry while making food.
What this means is that there's always something that happens
to me in the kitchen while I'm depressed.
I'll drop something, I'll make food all the way through
and then drop it.
That's happened to me before, I was really upset about it.
But yeah, doing that and not crying.
Drinking water.
Water is so important especially if you're crying when you're depressed,
please drink water.
Did something that entertained my brain.
So whether that's playing video games,
watching youtube videos,
welcome to my channel.
Doing something, drawing if that's something that you like,
doing something kinesthetic is actually really helpful,
so for me, I like, write on pieces of paper.
Or I try to draw, it's all dependent, I'm really shiny I'm sorry, it's hot in my room.
Talking to another human verbally, there's something that happens when,
words flow through our mouths and we can hear them.
That does something to our brains, so talking to another human being,
is really helpful, but if you don't have the spoons
to talk to another human being, 'cause I completely understand that,
texting another human being is also really nice.
Just any form of communication with any of your friends would be really helpful.
Doing a skin care thing,
so washing your face or
putting a face mask on, like those are very superficial,
and you don't have to do them, but washing your face
goes in line with showering, so if you shower, just wash your face.
It'll help you feel less gross.
Doing a makeup thing, for me yesterday on my Self Care Sunday,
I went and I got my nails done,
because that's something that I wanted.
And I redyed my hair this like, dark shade of indigo,
which falls into the next thing, doing a hair thing.
Listening to some music, that always helps me,
Spotify does this great thing called discover weekly,
where you get your own playlist.
I'm not sponsored, but Spotify sponsor me, that'd be lit.
Actually leaving the house,
I left the house yesterday for about,
an hour and a half on my self-care Sunday, it was really nice.
It didn't fix the problem, I'm still very depressed,
today when I woke up, but it helped a little bit
and that's really what matters.
And the last gold star you get is for paying attention to your spoon levels.
Do not over exert your spoons, don't do it,
it won't be helpful for you, recognize what your limits are.
Also I sound really nasally and really sick because
I am really sick, um,
my body does this thing when I go on trips for long periods of time where
it just kind of shuts down it's kind of awful, so.
Giving my speeches at work have been a blast.
If you are seriously depressed lately,
or don't have anyone to talk to,
um, please, there are a bunch of hotlines you can call.
Don't let your depression consume you, and I know that that's very hard,
but like with all of the news lately with all of the people
that we are losing to suicide,
it's very very important that we touch on these things and talk about them.
Which is why I talk about mental illnesses
so openly on my platforms because I want you guys to know that you're not alone,
and it's very important to know that you're not alone.
Because depression makes you feel like you're alone.
My voices the other day literally told me,
"Hey all your friends hate you" and for a good 48 hours
I thought all of my friends hated me.
And it just goes to show you the power of the brain
and the power of what happens when mental illnesses are really loud.
And reckless, so. The voices are probably wrong.
So just know that, going in.
Alright mermaids, I hope you enjoyed that video.
