Today I wanted to revisit the Black Garden.

My first and only video on the Black Garden was on August 3rd 2015, and obviously, since

then, a lot has happened.

Specifically, in my opinion the Books of Sorrow released with the Taken King provide the greatest

clarity to understanding the Black Garden.

In today's video I want to focus in on the Heart of the Black Garden and why the Vex

are worshipping the heart of the Black Garden.

[INTRO] This area is so complex, I actually have already

removed 2 pages of script and I am just going to cut straight to the theory.

My best explanation of the Black Garden is; the Black Garden is an area where the Vex

are experimenting on Worm Larvae, the Heart of the Black Garden is somehow related to

the worms.

To understand how this theory works, you need to understand the Books of Sorrow, which are

the 50 calcified fragments that you collect to make Touch of Malice.

The Books of Sorrow is essentially the history of the Hive, mainly written from Oryx's

perspective.

In the Books of Sorrow we discover that the Hive were not always the Hive, they were previously

a much weaker race that crash landed on a planet called the Fundament.

In an effort to save his species, the now Oryx, made a symbiotic pact with the Worm

Gods.

The Worm Gods are agents of the Darkness, similar to how the Traveler is an agent of

the Light.

The Worm Gods were trapped on the fundament and in order to escape they needed a species

to host their worm larvae.

The host of the worm larvae would gain incredible power and the Worm gods would be freed.

The now Oryx, made this bargain with the worm gods, so that he could gain more power and

ensure his species would live on.

The Hive became the Hive when they accepted the worm larvae into their body.

This bargain was not without consequence, the Hive had to keep feeding their worms living

inside of them through killing.

Consumption of the Light is a worms favourite meal.

If they can keep the hunger of their worms satisfied through killing, they will continue

to grow in power and live forever, however, if they cannot satisfy the hunger of their

worm, their worm will consume them and kill them.

So, the now Oryx met the worm gods on the planet the fundament, formed this symbiotic

pact and has been on a conquest killing and feeding his worm, up until his appearance

in the Taken King.

So, what does this have to do with the Heart in the Black Garden and the Vex, and why do

I think the heart of the black garden is related to the worms.

Well, in the Books of Sorrow Verse 4:9, the Vex are fighting the Hive in Oryx's throneworld,

Crota accidently made a portal into the Vex realm after being tricked by Oryx's sister,

Savathun.

The Vex manifested a Hydra, called Quria, Blade Transform.

This Vex mind was trying to understand where the Hive got their power from, so it ran multiple

tests.

This mind did actually work out the where the Hive got their power, firstly it deduced

the Sword Logic, the card reads, the Vex ritual-of-better-thoughts manifested

a Mind called Quria, Blade Transform.

Quria deduced the sword logic.

I have to kill everything, Quria resolved.

Then I will be powerful.

And then the Vex mind also discovered the Worms, the card reads,

But Quria had instanced itself to the other side of the gate, and built a holdfast to

keep the way open.

Quria's objective was to exploit the paracausal physics of Oryx's throne to become divine.

It organized a series of test invasions.

For a hundred years of local time the siblings fought the Vex.

When the Vex came into the sword world, they were inevitably annihilated, but when the

Hive went into the Vex world, they lost too much of their power to win.

"Father's going to eat our souls," Halak sighed.

Quria captured some worm larvae and began experimenting with them.

Soon Quria, Blade Transform manifested religious tactics.

By directing worship at the worms, Quria learned it could alter reality with mild ontopathogenic

Then it set about abducting and killing dangerous organisms so it could bootstrap itself to

Hive godhood.

For some Vex reason, Quria never attempted to introduce worm larvae into its mind fluid.

This, in my mind, is the start of the Black Garden.

There are only 5 grimoire cards that refer to religion in Destiny, 2 of them relate to

the Fallen and worshiping Prime Servitors, and the remaining three are Vex related.

The Sol Divisive, grimoire card makes it very clear that it is odd for the Vex to demonstrate

religious behaviour, it is weird for robots to try and solve problems with worship, they

are more likely to run algorithms and calculations.

The card reads, Legends and scant field reports all indicate

that the Divisive Vex behave religiously.

Why would a hyperintelligent, time-spanning thought mesh exhibit religious behavior?

The answer seems as obvious as it is chilling: if the Vex found worship and devotion more

effective than any other behavior, they would adopt worship.

Whatever the Vex found - or made - in the Garden, it transcends even their power.

So, the religious behavior that we see in the Black Garden, the Vex worshipping the

Black Heart, I believe started with Quria Blade Transform, the Vex mind, in Oryx's

throneworld, who discovered the Worm larvae and manufactured a priesthood, ordering subminds

to believe in worship, to worship the worms.

If this is true, it would be reasonable to then assume that the Heart of the Black Garden

is either worm larvae or at the very least related to the worms.

Furthermore, Verse 5:1 of the Books of Sorrow seems to support this theory.

The Vex mind, Quria Blade Transform, sends all of her data to the greater Vex, so that

they can continue researching the worms.

The card reads, Quria shuts down its weapons and puts all

its spare resources into sending telemetry to the greater Vex.

There will be points in space and time where this data is vital.

There will be great projects undertaken in the study of this ontological power, this

throne-space.

There will be points in space and time where this data is vital… sound familiar, let

me remind you what you ghost says when you immediately enter the Black Garden through

the Mars portal, Where are we?

If this is the Black Garden, it's not on any map of known space and time.

I guess we just keep going.

Did Quria Blade Transform, send the data to the Black Garden, a point in space and time

where this information is vital, if so, this perfectly explains why the Vex in the black

garden worship the Black Heart, they received the data that said, worship the worms.

So, I think it makes perfect sense that the heart of the Black garden is either worm larvae,

or some derivative of worm larvae.

I believe that the Vex were experimenting on the Worm Larvae to try and work out how

to gain the power of the worms without introducing it to their vex fluid, like the Books of Sorrow

said, For some Vex reason, Quria never attempted

to introduce worm larvae into its mind fluid.

It seems like the Vex had worked out that even though Oryx was extremely powerful, in

sense he was still a slave to his worm, forced to continue killing and continue to feed his

worm.

I also think that the objectives of the Black Garden and worshipping the worms is linked

to the the Vault of Glass.

The Black Garden grimoire card reads, But the power of the Vex is not broken.

Look into the Vault, Guardian, for it is said to hold powers the Progeny were meant to bring

forth."

- The Speaker My best explanation for this, is that the

Vex in the Black Garden were trying to gain enough power to allow the Vex in the Vault

of Glass to manifest their power in our world.

The Gorgon grimoire card reinforces that the powers that the Vex have inside the Vault

of Glass are confined to the Vault of Glass, the card reads,

The Gorgons' ability must be tied to the nature of the Vault of Glass.

We can take some solace in the clear fact that the Vex cannot manifest this power in

the world outside.

The Vex are described as having one mind and one purpose, so it would make sense for them

to try and gain power from worshipping the worms in the Black Garden and then use that

power to bring forth the power of the Vault of Glass.

There are also a couple more reasons to why it makes sense that the Heart of the Black

Garden is worm related.

Firstly, the Heart of the Black garden is often referred to as the Darkness, the worms

are one of the closest things to the Darkness.

Secondly, it is said that the Heart had been draining the Travels light, and of course,

the favourite food of the worms is the Light.

The Black Garden card reads, "At last, the Heart of the Garden has been

destroyed, its stranglehold on the Traveler released.

Our Light brightens.

And lastly, the Touch of Malice.

The centre piece of the Touch of Malice is the Ravenous Heart, which is obtained by killing

Oryx in the Kings Fall raid.

Toland refers to the Ravenous Heart as the "feeding" and I assume the heart of Oryx,

the ravenous hungry heart of Oryx, has to be related to his worm.

The ravenous heart we see in the weapon Touch of Malice looks very very similar to the Heart

in the Black Garden and if true, it may solidify this theory.
