Why did Kate Middleton and Prince William choose Maria to be baby Prince George's nanny?

According to Forbes, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge broke with tradition by hiring

a nanny from a different country.

"It's customary for the Royal Family to hire older British nannies who exude old-school

manners.

But Kate and William, who have made clear that they want to be "hands on" parents, decided

to break with convention by selecting a Spanish woman in her early thirties to help take care

of baby George," Forbes reports.

Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo was trained for four years at the traditional and elite

Norland College.

"Like generations of royal babies before him, Prince George will be raised with the help

of a Norland nanny," Kensington Palace stated.

Maria, who "has been given her own accommodation in Kensington Palace," comes from a wealthy

and distinguished family in Spain and is very religious, Forbes reports.

Maria is a full-time nanny and will be accompanying Kate Middleton and Prince William and their

son on their upcoming tour of New Zealand and Australia.The tour will mark Prince George's

first official public appearance, E! News reports.

Since she arrived in the U.K. a few decades ago, the Spanish-born babysitter "has worked

for other high-profile families," a friend told Hello! magazine recently, E! News reports.

"And it was from there that the Cambridges heard of her and hired her."
