- [Kim] When you are an entrepreneur and every decision
you make, every piece of work that everybody working
with you does, could be a source of success or failure
of the whole company.
Feedback is more important than it ever is at some giant
company. The market likes to call this feedback.
I prefer to think of it as guidance.
Because feedback is sort of screechy and feels
like some kind of system imposed on you from HR.
Think of it as guidance. There's some good
stuff people are doing, and you want
them to do more of it - that's praise.
And there's some bad stuff people are doing,
and you want them to do less of it, and that's criticism.
It doesn't have to take a long time. In fact, the seeds
of trust are sown in these little radical candor moments.
There's a reason why I use the word candor, not truth.
If you tell somebody, "I'm gonna tell you the truth,"
it kind of implies that you know the truth and they don't.
Candor is a gift, so when you give guidance, you want to give
it with a spirit of being humble.
You also want to be helpful. You wanna make sure
that you are offering to help the person fix a problem.
You're not trying to kick them in the shins or prove
that you're the boss, or whatever.
You're just trying to help them fix a problem.
You wanna give it immediately, as I said.
You wanna give it in person.
Remember, feedback gets measured not at your mouth,
but at the other person's ear.
And you won't know how the other person is reacting
unless you can see them reacting.
You also wanna give praise in public.
You wanna give criticism in private.
And most importantly, you wanna give both praise
and criticism about somebody's behavior or somebody's work.
You don't wanna make it about personality.
Because the whole idea of guidance is to change something,
and it's really pretty darn hard to change your personality.
So what I encourage you to do as an entrepreneur
is to give everybody who works for you a little bit
of criticism and a lot of praise
every single week. And you wanna make sure
that your praise is specific and sincere,
and that your criticism is kind and clear.

Mark Cuban - Don't follow your passion - Insights for Entrepreneurs - Amazon - Duration: 1:14.
(chiming tone)
- One of the great lies of life is follow your passions.
Everybody tells you,
"Follow your passion! Follow your passion!"
I used to be passionate to be a baseball player,
then I realized I had a 70 mile per hour fastball.
I used to be passionate about
being a professional basketball player,
then I realized I had a seven inch vertical.
There's a lot of things I'm passionate about,
a lot, but you know what?
The things I ended up being really good at
were the things I found myself putting effort into.
A lot of people talk about passion,
but that's really not what you need to focus on.
You really need to evaluate and say,
"Okay, where am I putting in my time?"
Because when you look at where you put in your time,
where you put in your effort,
that tends to be things that you're good at.
And if you put in enough time,
you tend to get really good at it.
And if you put in enough time and you get really good,
I'll give you a little secret,
nobody quits anything they're good at,
because it's fun to be good.
It's fun to be one of the best.
But in order to be one of the best,
you have to put in effort.
So don't follow your passions, follow your effort.
Now I'm gonna give you one other secret.
The one thing in life that you can control
is your effort.

Angela Duckworth - A growth mindset is the right mindset - Insights for Entrepreneurs - Amazon - Duration: 1:39.
- [Narrator] A growth mindset is a belief
that people really are growth-oriented,
that they are malleable, that they learn
with experience and with effort.
This is a topic of scientific study
that dates back 50 years.
It is the idea that we can approach a situation,
a good or a bad situation, and think,
"What can I do here to change things for the better,
to keep things on course?"
That is an optimistic, growth-oriented mindset.
The opposite is a fixed mindset,
a deep down belief that really, people don't change.
You're either a writer, or you're not a writer.
You're a natural public speaker,
or you're not meant to be in front of the cameras.
You're kind of a people person with terrific social skills
that nobody had to teach you,
or you're destined to be awkward forever.
These two orientations in life powerfully influence
how people act, in particular,
when they're faced with challenges.
It's in those moments of challenge that some of us
rise to the occasion and others shrink back.
And what explains these very different reactions,
these very different motivation levels, are our beliefs.
When you teach children that the brain is plastic,
that neuroscience affirms that the growth mindset
is the correct one, that neurons continue to grow
throughout the entire lifespan,
this actually inclines students
to have more of a growth mindset
than a fixed one, and that, in turn, leads
to longer term achievement.

Tim Ferriss - 2 traps for entrepreneurs - Insights for Entrepreneurs - Amazon - Duration: 1:31.
- Common traps that I see
entrepreneurs getting themselves into,
and this is across dozens of companies
that I've worked with, and certainly hundreds
that I've observed, one is fetishizing failure.
And I think that this whole fail fast, fail forward...
in an ideal world you wouldn't fail, period.
(laughing) So, I tend to agree with say,
with Marc Andreessen and Peter Thiel
that you should optimize for success preferably.
Because Thiel and I both would think
that it's hard to discern much from failure in many cases.
What you think caused the failures
is not in fact what caused 'em.
So, split test, experiment,
but don't aim for failure. That's not the idea.
Number two is, if everyone's your customer,
no one's your customer.
People try to go for everybody.
No, I want to hit everyone that reads People Magazine.
I want to hit everyone in the US. No,
everybody would want this.
That would make your marketing, messaging, positioning
really, really weak and expensive. So,
start with your 1,000 true fans, read the essay
by Kevin Kelly, and move from there.
I would say those are two very, very, very common mistakes
that are almost trends in a sense.
People think that because technology is assisting,
because the barriers to entry are lower,
that they can aim for everyone as their customer
and that just doesn't work.

Labor stands up for Queensland and the Liberal government complains about it - Duration: 5:00.
It's quite bewildering to me that we have these Liberal Party MPs coming into this House
and actually choosing to oppose a policy setting that puts Queenslanders first.
I would've thought they would've wanted to talk about almost anything else except the
Buy Queensland policy that the Palaszczuk government has introduced in Queensland.
I would've thought they would've been running away from the idea of standing up and opposing
Queensland jobs and opposing providing business to Queensland small businesses.
Of course, providing additional work for Queensland small businesses and supporting additional
Queensland jobs is exactly what the Buy Queensland policy does.
We have people on the Labor side standing up for Queensland jobs and Queensland small
businesses, and, in pretty staggering display, people on the Liberal and National side are
doing the opposite: coming in here and opposing a 'buy Queensland' policy that puts Queensland
first.
It is just deeply disturbing.
What we have heard from them today is how unhappy New Zealand is about the fact that
the Queensland Government Procurement Strategy is going to favour Queensland businesses and
Queensland workers.
The member for Moreton was right: are we are going to see people wearing All Blacks jerseys
in parliament next?
I'm happy to wear my Maroons jersey around.
You've seen me in it, Madam Deputy Speaker Bird.
Being a New South Welshwoman yourself, I know the Maroons jersey is not your immediate choice,
but I certainly I love to wear mine—particularly given we won the State of Origin again this
year, I might add.
Apparently the Liberals think it's a really good idea to be wandering around in All Blacks
jerseys, because that is what they are doing now, in a metaphorical sense.
I love New Zealand; I'm a big fan of New Zealand.
But I will not criticise the Queensland Labor government for putting Queenslanders first
when it comes to procurement policy.
When the Premier announced this policy, she said:
From 1 September 2017, the Government's new Queensland Procurement Strategy will apply
whenever your government purchases goods and services, commissions major projects and infrastructure,
or builds the schools, housing and other facilities that each of our regional communities need.
This new strategy builds on opportunities to advance Queensland, to seek out opportunities
and deliver more for our local regions.
Our new Procurement Strategy will ensure we invest public funds to deliver lasting value.
The Government's multi-billion-dollar investment in goods and services will be directed to
benefiting as many Queensland businesses and workers as possible.
… … …
It will support genuine local jobs, by demonstrating a commitment to those businesses that share
our commitment to Queenslanders.
It will deliver greater transparency in procurement planning across agencies and it will be backed
up by a … compliance and coordination unit.
It will put Queenslanders first.
This policy says that from 1 September 2017, the government's procurement policy will define
a local supplier as a business that maintains a workforce within a 125-kilometre radius
of where goods or workers are needed.
That's important because we're not just talking Brisbane-based suppliers when it comes to
jobs in North Queensland, Far North Queensland or western Queensland; it is genuinely local
suppliers who are based in the local area.
If you're a local supplier within that definition, the policy says that you'll get a weighting
of up to 30 per cent on any tender that you lodge for a significant procurement.
So it's still a competitive process and there's still rigorous testing.
It just gives them an opportunity to level the playing field with foreign firms.
The policy will also require at least one local or regional supplier and one other Queensland-based
business to be invited to quote or tender for every procurement opportunity offered—a
very sensible proposal from this government.
For significant infrastructure projects of $100 million or more, the procurement process
will require the use of local subcontractors and manufacturers where the local capability
and capacity exists.
In the situation of significant projects, it will require that 15 per cent or more be
expended on apprenticeships, which is up from the current 10 per cent.
Importantly, this policy will deliver a more visible pipeline of opportunities for Queensland
businesses so they can plan to get together the capability and capacity to deliver projects
and to have a competitive opportunity to tender for these projects.
There are plenty of other components to this procurement policy, but all we are hearing
from this government and its members in this place are complaints—complaints about the
fact that Labor is putting Queenslanders first, complaints about the fact that Labor is standing
up for local jobs, complaints about the fact that Labor is standing up for Queensland small
businesses.
Frankly, it is pretty staggering to see federal MPs from the Liberal and National parties
come into this place and argue against Queensland's interests and in support of the interests
of other jurisdictions.
I think they should all go and take a good hard look at themselves, Madam Deputy Speaker.

Arianna Huffington - Wake up and get some sleep - Insights for Entrepreneurs - Amazon - Duration: 1:30.
(chiming tone)
- [Arianna] So in 2007, it was two years
into my building the Huffington Post.
I had two teenage daughters. I was divorced,
and I really came to believe that the only way
I could juggle everything and make my life work
was by ignoring my own needs -
by forgoing sleep, by not giving myself time to recharge.
And as a result, there I was one April morning;
I got up from my desk to put on a sweater,
because I was feeling cold, and I collapsed.
I hit my head on my desk, and I came-to in a pool of blood
with a broken cheekbone and a big slash in my eye.
It was a really painful wake-up call
that got me to the realization that, not just me,
but tens of millions of people around the world
are living with the collective delusion
that in order to succeed, you have to burn out.
And as entrepreneurs, the most important thing
that determines the success or failure of what we're doing
is the quality of our decision making.
In fact there is clearly a connection between
our cognitive performance, our decision-making,
and how fully recharged we are.
And the key here is sleep.

Medicare For All Town Hall | Review - Duration: 6:34.
welcome back you guys thank you very much for joining me my name is SWAT ik
Leandra and I am Q the nurse and this is nurse Flitz finally this is episode two
of nurse flex episode two this is my second um full video I'm merciful excuse
me I don't watch any television it has anything to do with Nursing but this is
super important and this is a serious topic that we need to talk about and
that topic is Medicare for all so the Young Turks of attention and um
this is now all online it's not CBS it's not Fox News it's not the establishment
media that you know the Young Turks attention and this is now hosted a town
hall with Bernie Sanders on Medicare for all you'll be doing things you don't
like doing in order to go on living that is to go on doing things you don't like
doing but it's stupid better to have a short life that is full
of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way super important
you guys need to watch it I think it's they did an absolute fabulous fabulous
fabulous job as the greatest questions had the best panels on and they did live
in a really perfect way so the first panel they had three doctors health care
providers people that work in America talking about what is the problem with
health care today and then go into super big details about like you know how
expensive it is and how it's all built on making these pharmaceutical companies
and insurance companies the most money ever and it's not it's not focused on
patient care that is actually the last focus the number one focus is money
money money money money money right we always have to be concerned about money
but but just watch the video so that's the first panel so the second panel was
all about the economics behind Medicare for all not of how bad our system is
currently no but the economics behind if we were to switch over Medicare for all
how much would it cost us in taxes and in total would we be gaining a losing
profit in our own pockets as citizens of the country right these are the kind of
questions they answer and even not-not-not huge scale even small
scale like for a small business owner what does medicare-for-all me to that
small business owner how what does it cost for the individual and what does it
cost as an entire country and they go over that and that that was the most
informational for me because that's what everyone cares about at the end of the
day everyone wants that health care but if you just turn on the TV any single
given day you see a million people talk about how expensive it is gonna cost one
point six trillion dollars a year you're gonna end up in seventy percent in taxes
just lies lies lies as he says a million times over right we are the only
industrial um you know Western country that has does not that does not have
Medicare for all or a single-payer system and then that final panel they
talked to health care providers from Canada health care provider from Norway
and and a student a student a young lady who lived in America grew up in America
moved to France she went to school there and lived there for a bit and then came
back and she had an experience where in France she was paying on him a check uh
uh like out of her work paycheck that you know just like any tax any payroll
tax any you know income tax would come out and she said she was paying like I
don't know what the exact number is I think it was like a twenty five to
thirty five dollars out of her check II could have been even as low as 15 but
you can see it for yourself and she was like that health care was
entirely entirely free she never worried about anything literally the day she
came out the day the day she started looking for health care here in America
when she got back to America she was like this is the worst thing ever and
she just couldn't understand the bargain in the you know the health care lingo
the premiums you know all of these things that make it impossible to even
know if you're making the right decision if you do have health care here in
America but anyways it was it was just it was a great great thing to watch and
it was super super super informative I mean I learned so much I learned so much
as a nurse as a health care provider um to all you nurses out there to all you
health care providers out there this is an absolute must watch because it's
informational and if you are fighting for this if this is something you do
want if you are a human being if you are a citizen of America forget being a
health care provider if you are a citizen of America if you live here if
you think that this is the right if you believe that health care should be a
right this is a video you must watch if you think it's too expensive
this is a video much mutton you must watch because it might change your mind
if you think it's unrealistic this is a video you might you must watch please
please please watch this video I had a blast a blast I enjoyed it I was
entertained they asked the right questions all the questions they asked
everything they were talking about the pan all the guests they were on top of
this shit they were in the field they lived it they breathe it they know this
shit this is not just stats from a book these are people that deal with health
care in in America every day in Norway in Canada every day um that has worked
behind taking care of Medicare for the you know elderly population in America
throughout the Obama administration some like legitimate things that I think all
health care providers should know and moving forward this should be the goal
most definitely most definitely Medicare for all a single-payer system in America
should most definitely be the goal health care is a right life liberty and
the pursuit of happiness and life is first life is first remember that
Medicare for all yeah I'm so just you you guys let me know
nurse flex what kind of TV shows what kind of documentaries what do you want
what do you watch as a nurse that I can watch and then I'll make a video about
it and we can have a conversation about this love y'all
don't forget to Like subscribe and leave some comments below if you have what you
tell me what you thought about it if you haven't watched it tell me why you will
or you won't watch it I'll catch you guys later
