Transylvania is like CATALONIA with vampires.
Yep, you heard that right.
The land where Dracula was born is also the place of one of the most significant separatists
conflicts in all of Europe.
In other words…
Transylvania is the perfect place to make a VisualPolitik Halloween special.
And… yes, I know what you are thinking.
We read your comments and we know you want a video about Catalonia...
And I'll tell you what!
We are going make it, it's just big, and it's complicated, and I promise it will
be worth the wait…
For now, let's get back to Transylvania, a historical region situated in the centre
of Romania.
Despite being in this country, 20% of its population doesn't even speak Romanian.
Instead, Hungarian is their mother language.
In some areas, the number of Hungarian-speaking people rises to 80%.
This area where the Hungarians are the majority is called as SZEKELY LAND.
Almost every year you can see massive protests of Szekelies demanding more autonomy for their
territory.
These demonstrations are celebrated in the main cities of Transylvania as well as Bucharest,
the Romanian capital, and Budapest, the Hungarian capital.
But wait a minute because things are far more complicated that they seem!
In fact, Szekelys don't want to have their own country.
Instead, they want to become a special region inside of Romania, with a very specific fiscal
system.
So the question here is…
Why does this cause so many problems for Romania?
Why are these demands causing such a significant diplomatic conflict?
And more importantly…
What does the Hungarian government have to do with this?
Well, today we are going to answer all of these questions.
But before we do that let's take a look at the history.
HAIRY TONGUES
For centuries, Transylvania was part of the Kingdom of Hungary.
Back then, Romania wasn't even a country.
The upper classes and the aristocracy spoke Hungarian and Romanian was the language spoken
by the peasants.
At some points in history, Romanian speakers were even prosecuted by the authorities.
We call this process the MAGYARIZATION.
Basically, the Hungarian rulers wanted to impose their culture at any cost.
To those aristocrats, Romanians were sort of hillbillies who had a special love for
stealing things and a bad sense of personal hygiene...
In fact, there was even a term to refer these Romanians...
They were called Szőrös nyelvu which, literally means, 'with a hairy tongue'.
During the 19th century, the Government closed Romanian speaking newspapers and they even
forced a lot of citizens to change their Romanian name to a Hungarian one.
Nonetheless, things changed after the end of World War I.
The Austro-Hungarian empire lost the war.
And one of the things that happens when you lose a war is that you usually lose parts
of your territory too.
One of those parts was Transylvania, which was incorporated into Romania.
Suddenly, those peasants that were oppressed by the Hungarian nobility had power.
And, well, they wanted revenge.
This is how the first attempts to destroy the Hungarian culture started.
And oh boy, it was not an easy job…
Don't forget that, despite being part of Romania, Transylvania was the home of over
1 million Hungarian speaking people.
These were called the SZEKELIS and for generations have been speaking the language of ISTVAN
ORKENY.
But things got really a lot uglier during World War II.
Hungary once again chose the wrong side to ally with.
With Hitler's help, they took back their former territories and struck back against
those who wanted to erase Hungarian culture in the country.
As you can imagine, this helped to make the Romanians even more angry.
Then, in 1945, the Germans lost the war.
That included their allies and, of course, the Hungarians.
So Romania, with a brand new communist government took Transylvania back.
This time, with an even bigger taste for a payback.
Maybe you remember this other video where I told you about the dictatorship of Nicolae
Ceausescu?
If you have seen it, you already know the Communist Romania was the closest thing to
a European North Korea.
1 out of 30 Romanians were part of the political police, and they prosecuted not only those
who opposed the government, but even those who dared to speak Hungarian.
From one day to the other, Ceaucescu closed newspapers and forced those Szekelys to speak
Romanian even in their own homes.
Magyarization, bad as it was, forced a few Romanians to change their names.
Romanization was the same sort of thing, just on a way bigger scale.
But hold on a minute because it doesn't stop here!
On their path to destroy even the last resemblance of Hungarian culture, the Romanian Communist
Party forced thousands of citizens to set in the Hungarian speaking territories.
This way, Hungarian speaking became a small minority in cities like ORADEA or SATU MARE.
Basically, the whole area that borders with Hungary became a Romanian majority region.
Nonetheless, there is a region that managed to keep their language and traditions in tact,
and that is the so-called SZEKELY LAND.
ROMANIA STEALS FROM US!
In 1991, Romania passed their brand new democratic constitution.
This constitution recognized the right to speak Hungarian.
But, as you can imagine, after decades of hate against Budapest, those szekelys were
far from happy.
Think about it, fiscally, Romania is a very centralized country.
Almost all the taxes are collected by the central government and then, they share that
money among the regions, with a focus on the poorest ones.
This puts Transylvania in a very bad position, and that's because they are wealthier than
the other regions...
And this, well this, is how a new political party was born: the Democratic Alliance of
Hungarians of Romania, also known as the UDMR.
Unsurprisingly, they won all the elections in regions where Hungarians are the majority...
So, what are their foundations?
Basically, they claim Romania is sucking their blood… and their money.
Yes… it is the same as in the Catalonian case!
And their solution to end Romanian looting is… imitating the fiscal model of another
Spanish region: the BASQUE country.
Let me explain to you what happens here for a moment.
The Basque Country is a region inside of Spain with a very special tax system.
Unlike the other regions, the Basque citizens don't pay their taxes to Madrid but to their
local government instead.
Once the money is collected, the local government has to give some share to the central government.
But the rest is to be managed the way the local government wants…
Alright, so back to Transylvania.
So, this was the system proposed by the Szekelys in 2014.
And guess what the Romanian government replied…
Well, they say it was against the constitution.
The Romanian Constitution starts by saying that that is a sovereign, unitary and in-di-vi-si-ble
country.
Of course, this created lots of protests in different cities.
There were referendum attempts and all sorts of other symbolic objection...
These are all things that hurt the Romanian ruling class.
ROMANIA'S RULING PARTY THREATENS AUTONOMY-SEEKING TRANSYLVANIAN-HUNGARIANS WITH PRISON PUNISHMENT
Attempts that threaten the constitutional order of Romania should be punished with prison.
If you've been following the case of the Catalonian separatists, this might sound familiar
to you...
Well, hold on a second because the best is still yet to come..
AUTONOMY OR ANEXION?
If anybody of you has ever been to Hungary, I'm sure you might have seen someone wearing
a T-Shirt with this map.
It represents the shape of Hungary before losing part of their territories before the
World War I.
Yes, even today, in the 21st century, a lot of Hungarians keep dreaming about taking their
old empire back.
Among them there is their president, VIKTOR ORBAN, the Vladimir Putin of the Danube.
Just like the Russian President, Orban is famous for prosecuting the journalists who
dare to criticize him.
He has passed anti gay-laws and wins elections with over 60% the vote.
And, of course, like every good 'Putinist,' Orban likes to rule not only his own country,
but others too.
"Orban supports the autonomy of the szekelis"
OK, I know what you are thinking…
Why does a President from another country mess with the internal politics of another?
At the end of the day, what the Szekelys want is just to have more autonomy but… without
leaving Romania, right?
Well… in fact…
those Szekely citizens are also his citizens.
Hungary Grants Citizenship Rights To Ethnic Hungarians Abroad.
Yep, you heard that right.
All those Transylvanian-born Hungarians have two passports, the right to study in Hungary
and, of course, vote at Hungarian elections.
This last thing is especially good for Orban.
He is popular inside of Hungarian borders, but outside, he absolutely steals the show...
95% of Hungarians from abroad voted for his party, the FIDESZ, at the latest legislative
elections.
Meanwhile, Romania considers those rights for the Szekelys as a complete violation of
their own sovereignty.
In their opinion, if you vote in two different countries, you can't be loyal to the one
where you live.
All of this means the diplomatic relations between Hungary and Romania are complicated...
Thanks to this, Orban can use Romania as an antagonist to his nationalist propaganda.
And then Romania has a great chance to give some Hungary some shit when it comes to European
politics.
And now you might be wondering…
What does the European Union think about all of this?
The truth is that despite the Council of Europe writing memorandums where they defend the
rights of ethnic minorities, Brussels would never let Hungary win.
At the end of the day, Viktor Orban is like Dracula, Frankenstein and Freddy Krueger of
European politics.
So, as long as things don't turn ugly, don't expect any position from any EU institution
or politician.
But now this is your turn…
Do you think Transylvania should have its own autonomy?
Or, perhaps, this is
nothing by a attempt from Hungary to get back its sway on their former territories?
Please, leave your answer on the comment section below.

Leasehold - What is it? - Duration: 7:33.
G'day Andrew Murray here from the Apartment Specialists. Welcome to our Channel.
Today we've got John here from the team.
- Welcome
- Cool. Today now we're going to be talking about Leasehold. We have a lot of
people come into the office going "what is Leasehold?" so John What is Leasehold?
- And it's a good question I'll answer it briefly because I could talk for hours on it.
Leasehold essentially is where you own a property but you don't own the land
that the property sits on and sure that's the easiest way to look at it
okay so you own the property, you don't own the land because you don't own the
land, do you have... what do you have to do? Do you have to pay the landowner?
If... yeah, I mean put it this way if someone had their property on your land, you'd be getting pay from them.
- Yeah true, true. - So, so yes, you
know you pay what's called a ground rent to the landowner yeah.
- Okay so I know every lease is different every apartment complex is different even if
it's a house every house is different so depending on the lease so let's just say in simple terms.
How do they calculate, or how is it worked out, how much you should pay the owner?
- So it's proportional, usually it's proportional
to the land value okay so they will determine what the value of the
total floor area of the land is and they will divide it up into a percentage
might be 5% might be 6% might be 7% and all the owners in that building
or on that land will pay a percentage of that cost. - Oh I see okay so
if you've got a bigger apartment you're gonna have to pay more
- That's right.
- So quite similar to body corporate, yeah. - Similar to Unit Entitlement, yeah.
- Okay cool now what's interesting is we have come
into the office we see people come in you know looking to buy apartments
and we have some people when they will ask okay "what options are you looking for?"
We mention leasehold, especially New Zealanders, "Woah, no, no, no, not leasehold."
- They freak out yeah.
- "My friend Trevor told me"
- Old mate Trev, yeah.
- Yeah so, so explain to me the stigma and where does it come from?
- Umm... yeah is it good or bad... nah I hear you. - It's a tough question
- From the owners that I've spoken to it seemed to have originated from purchasing for the wrong reasons,
basically from being sold on solutions that it couldn't provide basically so,
a lot of these properties are sold as nest eggs, as retirement plans, as capital gain solutions you know so,
and it's not really, the way the leases are wired aren't really the best for capital gain
don't get me wrong you can make capital gain buying leasehold but to be honest
you're gonna find leaseholds outperformed by freehold as far as
capital gain is concerned, and that seems to be the general consensus
is "I purchased for capital gain, I didn't make nearly as much as I was told I was
going to and there's a sour taste left in my mouth" that seems to be the main
issue is that the properties are sold to the wrong people for the wrong reasons
you know that led to believe that it will do something that it won't.
- Which of course they're going to be.... - Yeah of course I'd be salty too.
If I went to the gym and the trainer said "Mate in two weeks you're going to get massive."
I'd be grumpy about it too, I'd be saying "Hey don't go to that gym."
- Okay so I think that's a really good point what you're saying is
the negative stigma is because people have been purchasing leasehold for a
reason which... you know, for a solution that it doesn't work for.
- Exactly. - The other important
thing is, in New Zealand everybody thinks, if the property is good, it's got to mean capital gain.
- That's it and because the market in Auckland
has been buoyant for so long the whole way everybody thinks now is
that if I purchase a property, it should make me money. If it can't then it's rubbish.
Not true, you know, there are solutions for everybody not
everybody's primary directive is to make capital gain
you know there's lifestyle, there's cash flow, there's all sorts of things.
- Okay so you went on to some other reasons there so what's leasehold good for?
- And that's it. I say lifestyle, I say cash flow, because they're the two predominant.
They are the two predominant factors that bring leasehold into the spotlight as a pro,
you know as a positive, why? okay leasehold let's look at it $300,000 you can get the
equivalent of an $800,000 to $1 million freehold property right,
the rents are identical okay, the lease doesn't... - Tenants don't care.
- Tenants don't care, the lease does not affect the way that it's rented so
you can achieve the exact same amount with a $300,000 leasehold property, $400,000 leasehold property,
as a $1-1.2 million freehold property okay so it's cash flow positive.
Low outlay, high returns. So that's number one. - Yeah, well that sounds pretty good.
- Yeah you can make lots of income from it okay number two is lifestyle.
Ok lifestyle not everybody's primary directive,
as I said it's capital gain. Some people want to come in with cash they might
want to live here for a year they want to see what the country is like they
want to live the dream. One of the biggest attributes of
leasehold is the location, is the lifestyle, it's Central City, it's looking
over the waterfront usually, surrounding developments buzzing, you know it's
the heart of the city. And to be able to go in there and spend $300,000 or $400,000
as opposed to $1.5 million if it was freehold
all of a sudden you've got all this money left over in your bank to enjoy
the lifestyle that you've set yourself up for or utilize it elsewhere you know
if you want to make capital, you've got a whole lot of money there to make...
there to you know, invest in other properties. - The interesting thing is if anybody and go talk to your
accountant they'll ask what is your actual home because I asked my accountant,
I go "What's my home?" he goes "It's not an asset." I go, "What do you mean
it's not an asset? Yes it is, it goes up in value." and he goes "No it's not, it's not driving income."
So if you've never read "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" read that it's an interesting book and
he is a very famous author about growing wealth talking about your home is not
actually an asset which actually goes into line with leasehold and another one
I'm just kind of twisting this okay, take for example I go and buy a property, instead of
looking all extra large and spending a lot of money I can actually use that money,
that I was going to spend and spend it on something else, that's gonna drive more income.
- Exactly and off that you'd be surprised, at how many people come in, thinking cool I finally made it
I've finally got enough money to put this you know to put a deposit on this property
and buy an amazing lifestyle property that's freehold and then realize that
they've got no money left to actually enjoy the lifestyle that it offers, so...
- Yeah so no holidays, no nothing. - No, nothing, and you're grinding away, you know.
There are solutions where it works 100% and
there are other solutions where it doesn't work 100%, you know, there are
better outperforming options, you know, so and as I say that's capital gain. Capital gain if you want that,
freehold all day. You can make capital in leasehold but you'll get outperformed
by freeholder properties, if purchased correctly. - Very good point and I think
that's really honest and it's I think a lot of maybe the salespeople
in the industry has got it wrong with leasehold as well and how it's being sold.
- I think it's misunderstood, you know, the leases are complicated you've got to
look into them they're all very very different and it's a lot of work for people
you know and sometimes just that extra work sort of makes them go too hard
basket let's move on, you know, so... - Yeah well okay John I really enjoyed this talk today and
- You're Welcome. - you highlighted some really good points
and I think we're gonna get quite a few questions today, so if you've got any questions on what
we spoke about please put them in the box below and we will answer them for you,
now next week we're gonna talk about... let's delve into a bit more of
this leasehold and talk about the cash flow property and talk about the numbers
because as I said before that really excites me because it suits any age group.
Lifestyle maybe me in you know 20-30 years,
lifestyle obviously it's about contacting one of the agents or ask us just some questions.
Anyway... Andrew Murray, Apartment Specialists. Thanks John
- Thanks guys - Cheers

What Is The Difference Between Channeling And Telepathy - Duration: 6:23.
What Is The Difference Between Channeling And Telepathy
by Olga Star,
So many channelers are coming out of hiding and some are recently discovering the ability
to channel that it is becoming almost as popular to share channeling messages as it is to sharing
cute kitten videos on YouTube.
From the most famous channelings of Seth via Jane Roberts, to channelings of Abraham by
Jerry and Esther Hicks that were publicized as the Law of Attraction, and the latest channellings
of Blue Avians by Corey Goode.
Channeling is a way of perceiving information, and so is Telepathy, and this is where the
confusion may arise.
So, what is the difference between channelling and telepathy?
With channelings, you are somewhat taken over.
You are temporarily not in control of your voice, your thought processes and/or your
visual perceptions are suspended in the present.
While it is still a way of receiving, or perceiving information if you like, there is always a
way, however small, that you are not fully in control when we turn our attention to your
mind or your physical body.
With telepathy, you are never taken over.
Sure, your mind can be influenced, however when it comes to telepathy it is very similar
to a level of influence that you subject yourself when listening to an inspiring lecture.
We are all easily influenced to a degree, by certain speeches, certain events and certain
information that find their way to grab our attention.
With telepathy it is more about receiving the information, or an ability to perceive
other humans (or beings!) thoughts and then decide what to do with that.
Its like talking to someone.
We accept the information, we then either discard it, or do nothing about it, or! in
particular exciting or somewhat thought-provoking situations we are eager to share it!
Of course, with channelings you can clearly deliver/translate what the other beings want
to say, as you dont really have a filter to adjust their information while you channel.
Yes, the beings will use the vocabulary available to you and the words, or letters or even symbols
that they are capable to describe using your existing knowledge.
Other than that, their information is delivered pretty much as though you, the person who
is listening to channeled messages, are simply in the same room with them and listening to
what they have to say.
Usually channelings can go both ways, when you can talk with the beings channeled via
channeler.
There are other forms of channelings of course, such as written, very common and not to be
mixed with inspirational writings.
But such channeled writings are mostly common among the lower vibrational beings (though
not just limited to them).
As you can see, channeling somewhat equals taken over.
With telepathy, you have a wider scope of access to the web of knowledge.
Depending on your current abilities, you may grasp some peoples feelings, some peoples
thoughts and perhaps, you can tune into the web of the universal information, sort of
like a library, just instead of browsing the books in the library or Wikipedia, you somewhat
connect to the Universal library.
As we are still going through the awakening process, this ability is quite rare and it
is much easier for many telepaths to establish a communication with some races rather than
to get an access to a whole web.
It is not just about ability to access the web, it is also inability to perceive
certain information that is available to our minds but unperceivable in our human states
at this stage.
In general, according to my perception, channeling is not good nor bad, it is just a step forwards.
Think of it this way, before we had shamans, witches and trance mediums, or what I call
Old Paradigm communication.
Channeling is not a New Paradigm but a necessary step in evolution of our consciousness.
Its like a side step before we embrace telepathy fuller.
Just imagine, if one day we wake up with full blown telepathic abilities and wed know
all the information that is out there and wed have to deal with the fact that not
only are we not alone, but there are a multitude of other races, and beings out there.
With channelings we get a gentler introduction to whats yet to come.
Consider it as a tapas platter rather than a five-course meal.
If you are not sure whether your connection is telepathic or channeling, consider the
following: some beings have abilities to make you think the thoughts are yours and not theirs.
But you CAN spot them eventually as those energies cant control themselves and it
will slip here and there (for example they suddenly play A LOT to your ego and fears,
or suddenly you feel depressed for no apparent reason or you want to commit suicide again
for no apparent reason) or they simply will behave in a controlling way and youll know
that is not your usual way.
With telepathy you know its not yours but you are perceiving it though as someone
is TALKING TO YOU (not through you or at you) OR TRYING TO COMMUNICATE in some ways, or
you sense other peoples thoughts (again, they have no interest in using you and they
are most likely unaware of the fact you can read SOME of their thoughts or feelings.
With telepathy you are always in control and you can choose to receive it or not (providing
you are opening up to such a gift usually it starts with feelings and occasional hearing
thoughts).
And channelling you are only in control in a sense if you choose not to let them use
you as an instrument, but once they have taken over you, youre not thinking or judging
as with telepathy when you perceive.
Love and Light,
