Sitting too much can accelerate biological aging by 8 years - Duration: 1:29.

Sitting for long periods of time has been linked to numerous health concerns like obesity

and heart problems.

In addition to the impact of inactivity on health, a new study shows sitting too much

can make cells age faster.

Park Se-young has the details.

Many people sit in front of the computer for seven to eight hours a day for work.

It's already known that that much sitting can result in poor circulation and slow metabolism.

Now, researchers at the University of California San Diego have found it can even accelerate

aging.

Among women who did less than 40 minutes of physical activity a day, those who sat for

10 hours or more had shorter telomeres than those who were less sedentary.

Telomeres protect chromosomes and deteriorate with age.

The amount of shortening in the study added up to about eight years of biological aging.

"As cells divide, the telomeres shorten and cells no longer divide.

This leads to cell aging and death."

The study showed that women who got their daily dose of exercise did not have shorter

telomeres, even if they sat for longer periods.

The researchers suggest that adequate physical activity by those who spend many hours sitting

could counteract the aging process.

Independent counsel requests arrest warrant for ex-presidential aide Woo Byung-woo - Duration: 0:43.

The independent counsel team investigating the nation's massive corruption scandal has

requested an arrest warrant for a former presidential aide.

Woo Byung-woo... is accused of helping President Park's close confidante Choi Soon-sil and

disrupting the team's investigation.

The counsel team decided to seek a warrant for his arrest on charges including abuse

of authority and derelection of duty.

Though the ex-senior presidential secretary for civil affairs repeatedly denied any connection

to the president's close friend, he is suspected of turning a blind eye to, or aiding, Choi's

interference in state affairs.

Zack Wheeler quietly defiant that he will pitch for Mets in 2017 - Duration: 4:19.

PORT ST. LUCIE - Chances are Zack Wheeler has never been described as defiant, not with a laid-back personality that translates into an easygoing manner on and off the baseball field.

And I'm not sure it's the right word now, after spending some time talking to him in the Mets' clubhouse, but, well, let's put it this way: Wheeler hears the noise out there and he wants to shout it down with the right arm that once seemed to hold the most promise of all the Mets' celebrated starting pitchers.

He knows that some fans are ready to give up on him, convinced that early soreness here in spring training is proof he'll never make it back from his 2015 Tommy John surgery, and it angers him.

The trick is making it work for him rather than against him when he has been living with and fighting doubts for months now, or since a series of setbacks kept him from making an expected return to the starting rotation last summer.

And in this social media-crazed world it is more difficult than ever to tune out the noise.

"I was actually thinking about that when I was on the field,'' Wheeler was saying at his locker. "Because it gets to a point where people stop believing in you: they say it's either in your head or you don't want to play.

"That can get to you, but finally, I was like, 'why am I letting this get in my head and bother me?' I couldn't care less what people say about me but they don't understand how much I want to be out there.

"I just want to be healthy and pitch. I miss it. I think I kind of took it for granted but two years is a long, long time.''

On Sunday Wheeler took a step in the right direction, throwing a bullpen for the first time since experiencing soreness earlier in the week, and said he felt good about it afterward.

Yet the doubt never goes away entirely after what he has been through, missing two full seasons since surgery in March of 2015.

You could hear it in Wheeler's voice on his first day in camp, when he said he wasn't getting his hopes up about a return to form because he'd already had so many setbacks. But since then he has indicated that's a mind game he plays, feeling more comfortable keeping expectations down publicly.

The reality, however, is that he said he came to camp with high hopes after an off-season in which he finally was able to throw regularly without the slightest bit of discomfort in his elbow.

"This whole off-season I was on a throwing program and it wasn't bothering me,'' he said. "I was letting it loose, I was letting it eat, throwing as hard as I could, and I was fine.

Wheeler is still trying to get back on the mound following Tommy John surgery in 2015.

(Howard Simmons/New York Daily News)

"I wasn't even getting sore the next day, which was surprising to me. I was like, 'what's going on here? I'm not even sore.'And of course I come here and it gets sore.

"I don't think I was trying to do too much, but when you get on that mound, you know you need to pick it up a little to start getting ready for games.

"It's beyond frustrating. I'm so tired of it, I just want to be healthy and pitch. But I wasn't really worried because it was still coming out of my hand well.

And now it's feeling good.''

Even so, Wheeler didn't push his arm during his bullpen session Sunday, taking Dan Warthen's advice to be cautious in ramping back up to full effort in the coming days.

So it remains to be seen if Wheeler can get over hump, and while it's easy to conclude the odds are against him, Steven Matz went through a similar ordeal, missing more than two full seasons after Tommy John surgery in 2010.

"I've talked to Zack about it,'' Matz said. "But I don't know if it's the same as it was for me. I had to break through the scar tissue.

Everybody is telling you, 'just push through it, push through it,' but it's hard to do that when your arm feels restricted."

In Matz's case, it wasn't until Dr. James Andrews told him an MRI in 2012 made it unclear whether he might need a second surgery, and the only way to know for sure was to go out and throw as hard as he could and see if the elbow held up.

Matz did so without pain and says it "gave me peace of mind'' that allowed him to finally return to pitching.

To that, Wheeler says, "I've had the peace of mind. It's not that.''

No, he says, as if wanting to speak to the doubters on Twitter directly, "It's not in my head."

That's as close as Wheeler will come to declaring he'll get through this and pitch in 2017. For him it's practically defiant.

Telephone owned by Adolf Hitler sells at auction for $243G - Duration: 1:02.

CHESAPEAKE CITY, Md. — A telephone owned by Adolf Hitler has sold at auction for $243,000.

Andreas Kornfeld of Alexander Historical Auctions says the phone sold Sunday afternoon to a person who bid by phone. The auction house does not disclose the names of buyers.

The red telephone includes a Nazi party symbol and Hitler's name engraved on the back.

Bidding for the phone started at $100,000.

The phone was used in Hitler's first field headquarters.

The red telephone includes a Nazi party symbol and Hitler's name engraved on the back. Occupying Russian officers gave the phone to a British officer, Sir Ralph Rayner, during a visit to Hitler's bunker in Berlin. The phone was used in vehicles and trains as well as Hitler's field headquarters.

Kornfeld says a porcelain figure of an Alsatian dog, also owned by Hitler, also sold Sunday to a different bidder for $24,300.

FOR AN INTERROGATOR TO JOIN A

SPECIAL TEAM ORDERED TO FIND THE

FORMER IRAQI DICTATOR. THAT MAN

WAS STAFF SEARGENT ERIC MADDOX.

MADDOX IS NOW SHARING HIS

UNEXPECTED ONE FOR STAFF

SEARGENT ERIC MADDOX. HE

STARTED AS A CHINESE- MANDARIN

EVER GOING TO WAR

((I WAS CALLED UP THREE MONTHS

((BACK THEN, IT WAS SUPPOSED TO

FOCUSES ON NEGOTIATION AND

COMPROMISE AND GETTING HIS

PRISONERS TO OPEN

UP:

((MY PRISONERS WERE NOT GOING TO

TALK TO ME WITH THE OLD STRATEGY

I JUST HAD TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO

KEEP THEM TALKING ))

AFTER MONTHS OF QUESTIONING

SADDAM'S INNER CIRCLE- MADDOX

DIRECTED ALL OF HIS ATTENTION

JUST ONE MAN: A FORMER BODY

GUARD: MUHAMMAD

IBRAHIM

((I NEVER THOUGHT WE WERE

ACTUALLY GOING TO FIND SADDAM ))

((WE SAID WE DONT KNOW WHERE

SADDAM IS BUT WHAT IF WE COULD

FIND THE GUY THAT COULD TAKE

NIGHT HIS TEAM WENT HOUSE TO

HOUSE DOING INTERROGATIONS. AND

ON THE VERY LAST DAY OF HIS

TOUR: THEY FINALLY CAME

FACE-TO-FACE WITH IBRAHIM.

((IT TAKES COURAGE I ADMIRE HIM.

POWERFUL FORCE))

HE KNEW TIME WAS RUNNING OUT TO

GET ANSWERS:

((BEFORE MY FLIGHT LEFT I HAD

TWO HOURS, TO TALK WITH HIM. AND

MADDOX HAD TO GO. HIS TOUR WAS

WHETHER HE MINDS NOT BEING THE

JOB WAS DONE. FOR HIM- WHAT HE

LEAVES BEHIND IS MORE IMPORTANT

Character Tag (for WIP I'll See You Then) - Duration: 9:10.

Hi! Welcome to the other side of my apartment.

So, I moved my computer, hopefully this will work

I am now on the wall that directly faces the road

So maybe you can hear cars going by. Maybe that's exciting for you

I don't know!

Anyway, I am going to do another tag

I'm going to do the tag from Rachel Writes

from the coffeeandcalligraphy tumblr

It's just called writing tag there

people have been calling it character tag which makes sense because that is what it is

So I have had answers to this sitting on my desktop for a long time & I'm finally gonna tell you about them

isn't life thrilling?

Okay.

#1: A crazy hacker's gone into your computer, and has deleted all of your music, except for one song off of your writing playlist. Which song is it?

Partly because my computer was destroyed fairly recenty I haven't been using a writing playlist for this story

But there are recurring references to a certain song in the book itself

I don't want to tell you it sounds so -- it does not sound clever & wonderful out of context but --

um, it's "Love Story" by Taylor Swift.

I don't wanna have to listen to that over & over, but if I have to pick a song that would be most relevant

I guess so.

#2: Your protagonist and antagonist have been paired up by friends to go out to lunch together. Where do they go?

Okay so the closest thing Fay has to a human antagonist

is her hitherto unknown biological Uncle Jimmy

I guess they'd go to the tea room, since it's literally the only option

as long as they're stuck in the very small town they're in for the entire section of the book where they're forced to interact

which is the part I'm writing right now, so

they have 1 option, i guess they'd go there

Although they also have just tons of excess casseroles waiting at Jimmy's house

since his mother has just died

#3: You're crossing a bridge when the troll living under it stops you. He demands to read a chapter from your novel, and won't let you cross otherwise. Which chapter do you give him?

I feel like the "right" answer is the 1st chapter

but the one I find myself sharing from most is a totally random flashback scene in chapter 7

It's a really awkward sexy scene between my protagonist and her ex-gf

It's important to the plot in terms of explaining how she is in relationships & her past experiences

but it also stands on its own as just a funny ridiculous scene about underwear and #babydykeproblems

so hopefully that would appease the troll

and also it's something I put up on Patreon recently for all of my patrons

so it might appease anybody, i dunno!

My mom liked it, so that was weird.

#4: ...that's how many four is

Your friends have invited you out to a party. Surprise! All of your characters are there. Who do you choose to hang out with?

Umm...the parents.

because I am an old

but also because I had a lot of fun making up my main characters' parents

and they don't have that much time on the page

so I'd love to spend a little more time with them

and I love, Fay's parents are lovely and adorable

and Mai's mom and dad are definitely holding court with a quality jam sesh in the kitchen and I am all about that

#5: Crap. You left your car keys in your house, and you've (somehow) locked yourself out. Which of your characters picks the lock for you?

I thought about this, I went back and forth on this and the next one a couple times

could really go either way but I thought

I would not put it past Mai to have taken an independent study in lockpicking when she was homeschooled

so yeah I think Mai can take that

I think that's probably within her skillset

I'm countin' on you Mai

#6: The zombie apocalypse is happening right now. (It sucks.) Everyone is fleeing the planet, and moving to Mars. ONE of your characters can go with you. Who do you choose?

Doug. If I need somebody to remain calm and solve problems in space I'm going with the theatre techie every time

See, I also thought theatre techie might be able to figure out the lockpicking thing

& I definitely thought Mai might be a good choice for space also

partly I think she has more sort of mechanical knowledge

she can definitely fix an old Volkswagen Westfalia

which might come in handy for spaceships idk how much transferable skills there are there

But I think Doug. I think I would go with Mai for picking the lock & Doug for solving space problems.

#7: You've been given the opportunity to travel to one place (town, building, landmark, country) in your book. Where do you go?

You know, the book sprawls across this wonderful land of ours from sea to shining sea

but if I really think about it, the place I wanna go is Mai's house

I just really liked making up that house

and it's the house that ends up being the gathering place for a lot of their lives

they've always, since they've been this group of 4 they've always come together at Mai's house

and again, Mai's parents are these musicians so the house has a lot of familiarity to me

there's a lot of my experience of growing up folk music scene adjacent in Mai's experience

so I kind of like the idea of visiting her house & again, meeting her parents

I'm kind of enamoured with her parents & their adorable little family band

yeah I like them a lot

& that house has a lot of history & meaning in their lives

it was Mai's grandmother's house

I just think there's a lot I would love to just fully explore in real life that would be really interesting

I would like to just walk around, look at the books on the shelves

and uh, yeh. Fortunately I made it up so I can do that in my imagination any old time

#8: You meet your main character and start a conversation with them. Problem is, you've only got six words or less to do so. What do you say?

"Do you know anything about diseases?"

That should get Fay talking

She'd have lots to say on that subject. Um, yeah.

#9: Crazy acid rain is falling from the sky. Which of your characters would you use as an umbrella?

Um, so Lori probably has the agility for me to actually hold her up by 1 leg

& then she could balance a protective shield of some kind over her remaining four limbs to save both of us

so I don't know if that's in the spirit of the question but let's go with that

because I love all my bebes & I want us all to survive

K.

#10: You're out at a restaurant with your main character, and the time has come to order dessert. What do you order for them?

Anything with white flour and/or refined sugar will suit Fay just fine

She grew up in a house of sad & wholesome foods

So if it's got real sugar and, yeah, I think she'll be happy.

Um. That was fun. K. Bye.
