Waching daily Feb 2 2017

"I'm not an anarchist," Keanu Reeves says. "But as a kid, I always asked, 'How come?' So this is my childhood tradition. Stories about fighting against unreasonable authority and systems resonate with me."

The actor has seen that dynamic play out again and again over the course of his long career. At 52, he says, "I'm old enough now to almost have a Reevesian canon."

Soon that canon will include John Wick: Chapter 2, in theaters Feb. 10. The film is a sequel to 2014's unexpectedly great John Wick, a surreal, moody revenge thriller that grossed $86 million globally against a budget of about $20 million.

In the first film, Wick, a onetime assassin grieving the death of his wife, comes out of retirement to track down the punk who killed his puppy. The sequel pits Wick against a global crime syndicate and ratchets up the intensity of its anime-inspired fight sequences.

(Both films were directed by Chad Stahelski, a former stuntman who doubled for Reeves in The Matrix in 1999.) This Wick feels more commercial and less subtle, but the melancholy that pervaded the first film is still there. Reeves says that gloom drew him to the character. "In fiction, suffering is good," he says. "I liked his grief."

Most hero stories are catalyzed by some form of tragedy, and contemporary action films tend to dispense with backstory quickly as a method of establishing bare-minimum sympathy with the audience before moving on to spectacle.

Reeves, by contrast, seems drawn to characters whose deep woundedness is the story. He is adept at carrying tragedy with him through a film, rather than just the perfunctory scene or two. Quips are relatively few and far between. And from the '90s--when he starred in films like Point Break and Speed--onward, Reeves has looked different from most of his peers: more sinew than gruff,

more likely to be driven by inner turmoil than external aggression. In the character of Wick, for instance, Reeves sees a fight for agency he says echoes his own. "That sense of wanting to have independence and move freely in the world," he says. "That's one of the threads."

Reeves cuts an enigmatic figure in popular culture, too, especially in his downtime. There was the "sad Keanu" meme in 2010, and a string of side projects. He's played bass guitar in two bands, produced a well-received documentary about the transition from photochemical to digital film and co-founded a motorcycle company.

Several years ago, he began collaborating with artist Alexandra Grant. In 2011, they published Ode to Happiness, a grownup picture book with illustrations by Grant and soulful aphorisms written by Reeves. For their next work, they've been riffing on failure as a theme. Reeves says he's been writing it in his head, though he hasn't gotten anything on paper yet.

For now, he has found a surprisingly rich hero in Wick, a guy who's had everything taken from him, and so ends up adding to the canon. Says Reeves: "It's me reclaiming my life."

Costs of Inflation: Price Confusion and Money Illusion - Duration: 5:05.

♪ [music] ♪

- [Alex] Why is inflation a problem? To the person in the street,

the costs of inflation are obvious. Prices are going up. What could be worse?

But inflation increases all prices, including wages. If all prices are going

up, what's the problem? If everyone knew that the inflation rate would be 2% or 8%,

then everyone could prepare. And the exact rate, it wouldn't matter so much.

But it's often the case that no one knows what the inflation rate is going to be.

In the United States, the inflation rate was 1.3% in 1964. The rate then quadrupled

to 5.9% in 1970 and then it went to 11% in 1974. Inflation caught people by surprise.

Then inflation went from 14% in 1980 to 3% in 1983. And, again,

people were surprised. And these changes...they were mild. In Peru,

the inflation rate was 77% in 1986 but then just four years later the inflation

rate was running at 7,500% per year before falling back to 73% by 1992.

Who could possibly predict these kinds of changes?

Now high rates of inflation do create some problems, as we'll discuss,

but volatile and high inflation rates they're really costly. We're going to look

at two costs: price confusion and money illusion. Remember from our video on the

price system that a price is a signal wrapped up in an incentive.

We said then that an increase in the price of oil it signals to users of oil that oil

has become more scarce. And it incentivizes those users of oil to find

ways to economize such as by moving flower production to warmer climates.

But when we have inflation, all prices are increasing. So price signals,

they become more difficult to interpret. There's price confusion.

Is that increase in the price of oil, is that due to greater scarcity or is it just

due to more money chasing the same goods? Now people...they're not so sure what to

do and the price system becomes a less effective way of coordinating economic

action.

Inflation, especially high and volatile inflation, it adds noise to prices.

So price signals become more difficult to interpret and coordination is made less

effective. Money illusion is another problem. Let's face it. Human beings are

not always perfectly rational. So suppose that over several years the price of a

movie ticket doubles. Even when we know that most prices, including wages,

have doubled, we might still feel that movies...they've just become so expensive.

"I remember when going to the movies was a cheap date. It's too expensive now."

If we think that movies were cheap in the past and expensive today,

we might go to fewer movies, even when there hasn't been a change in the real

price of movies; the price corrected for inflation. Money illusion is when

people mistake changes in nominal prices with changes in real prices.

If we were perfectly rational, then we ought to just care about the real price.

But sometimes that's hard to do because we compare things with the way we remember

them, without doing all the fancy corrections and conversions in our head to

compare real prices. Inflation has other costs. It redistributes wealth and it

breaks down financial intermediation. We're going to take up those costs in the

next video.

Why Is Poop Brown And Pee Yellow? - Duration: 2:51.

"Hi, this is Emily from MinuteEarth.

Although the things we eat and drink are all sorts of colors, they all come out the other

end looking either brown and yellow.

And actually, our digestive systems destroy pretty much all the colors in our food, turning

what's left into a grayish mass – the pigments that show up in our poop and pee

come, not from our food, but instead, from our blood.

That's largely because our bodies produce an insane number of red blood cells, but these

cells have no way of maintaining or repairing themselves, so they only last for a few months

before becoming so stiff and inflexible that they're forced to retire.

If all the retiring red blood cells went straight to the toilet, and took all their oxygen-carrying

iron with them, our poop and pee would be red, but our bodies would also quickly run

out of iron for making new red blood cells, and we'd die.

Instead, white blood cells engulf their red comrades and crack them open to reclaim the

precious iron, leaving the disposable iron wrappers to degrade into a molecule called

bilirubin.

The liver tries to clean bilirubin from the bloodstream by sweeping it into the intestines...but

unfortunately, the intestines mistake it for food, and push it right back into the bloodstream.

In other words, left to their own devices, our bodies send bilirubin on an infinite loop

and never actually get rid of it.

Fortunately, certain gut bacteria break the cycle by intercepting bilirubin and chewing

it into a slightly different molecule called urobilinogen, which prepares it to finally

leave the body by two possible routes:

In route Number 1, urobilinogen first gets treated just like bilirubin and put back into

the bloodstream, but from there, it gets slurped up by the kidneys, which recognize it as trash

and process it accordingly – into a molecule that happens to be yellow – before passing

it along to the bladder, which passes it to the toilet...or, to wherever.

In route Number 2, microbes back in the intestines happen upon the urobilinogen and chew it into

a dark brown molecule that lurches all the way to the end of the colon, mixing with the

grayish remains of our food to turn the final product its familiar shade.

In short....

Roses are red, red blood cells are too Bacteria turn them into the brown in our poo

Except when our kidneys end up making them yellow

In which case, always remember to let it mellow" This episode of MinuteEarth is supported in

Seven Signs That An Angel Is With You!

by Linda Preston

Angels exist on a different vibrational frequency to humans, and most of us are therefore unable

to see them but we can often feel their presence around us.

Angels have a way of making their presence known and it is not necessary to be deeply

religious or to have a strong spiritual belief to sense the presence of an angel.

7 Signs That An Angel Is Close By

1.

The temperature in the room may change.

You may feel a sudden rush of warm air or a warm glow surrounding you.

You may also get goose bumps or tingling at the back of your neck or head.

2.

An intriguing fragrance may appear out of nowhere.

It may be an unusual aroma that you have never smelt before, and you will probably not be

able to identify it.

3.

Different colored lights may appear from nowhere.

You may see shafts of light streaming down or shooting across the room or may catch glimpses

or sparks of light or notice shadows.

Do not be afraid, you will not see an angel appearing until you are ready to, and angels

of course have no desire to harm you.

4.

You may hear angelic voices trying to communicate to you.

If the voice is merely a whisper or is muffled, send a mental message for the angel to speak

louder.

Do not assume that the angelic voice you are hearing is a product of your imagination.

5.

White feathers may suddenly appear in the most unlikely and unexpected of place.

This is a sure sign that the angels are with you and are ready to answer your prayers

6.

Angels may appear to you in your dream state with a solution to a particular problem.

By the morning, you will feel more positive and clearer about which direction to take

7.

You may feel as if there is someone in the room with you.

(As if someone has just brushed past you) or you may experience the sensation that a

presence is standing behind you perhaps with their hands on your shoulders.

Often the angels will make their presence very obvious.

A common experience is when you are in a bookshop or a library perhaps unconsciously looking

for guidance and suddenly a book will fly off a shelf and drop at your feet.

This is angels at work, trust in them and you will receive more signs.

They are here to help us on life path.

gee you know what this wouldn't have

been happening with Hillary of course we

still be talking about those the

ridiculous the controversies over her

that she's got that point well driven

home me it ain't gonna happen to her and

evil rest for sure but this character of

that we believe that making these

CNN yesterday that mr. Trump succeeded

in something that never occurred before

what a man he has a majority unfavorable

rating 51-percent it took them five days

to get there i guess the premise of

getting all these jobs for the rest else

was like got him in there but he kind of

put that aside right now and we're just

now talking about reorganizing the

government you know I don't know that

man knows the Constitution orders

amendment is bread that too is I wonder

I wonder if you really do need to be in

the political arena before you studied

that or certainly either maybe that was

just on the John reading when you want

something to perk him up but get get rid

of those there's those battle the stools

out his back and I bet that he was

just know you have so many things that i

love about the upcoming seasons but when

the hot summer months come you know when

it's time for people to really get

pissed off at the

of the lack of services and the amount

of random shootings that go on

I don't think that's going to go over

very well really don't but you know

we'll just have the Regency i would say

3.2 million people didn't feel that he'd

be the best choice which is why they

voted for Hillary unfortunately she was

kind about tooth and didn't realize that

she needed to park her but a little bit

in the western PA and along the shores

of Illinois Michigan and Wisconsin and

Florida no one wanted we didn't have any

rust belt industries in Florida we never

did but she needs to spend some time

with people because there's a lot of

registered Republicans here she had to

show them but they're old and she needs

to show them how important would be to

have her as president so that their

medical situations wouldn't be screwed

up and they are already I i got my first

refill of medicines for Obamacare it's

not that anymore healthcare that goes

national health care i paid a good sixty

percent more for the pharmaceutical

items that that last year I had on

humana and share have a florida blue

cross deductibles are up they don't

covers many of the specialists that

sometimes one needs to see like all the

pts and neurologists etc and so yeah I'm

going to use to being a little bit more

of a belt tightening guide myself don't

tell Brad you'll never believe what I

could ever possibly tighten my belt this

to spoil that I am very closely i highly

insulted by the way anyways so has the

these last few days has been going well

for you have you been sucked into the

vacuum of CNN and MSNBC I hope that I i

listen to them on on siriusxm on the

carburetor which I do love that I get

chest but the totally informed by the

time I get home after driving an hour

and a half and then I don't have to

we don't want to watch the the the cable

edition of all those shows because they

know what they said i would i watch the

listings live and I know exactly you

know how I'm supposed to be well i don't

i'm not a gas that anything anymore

I chocolate a always a my best Hebrew

absolutely absolutely ridiculous 2017

guys and gals and look at all we got to

lose if he starts to strip things away

from us

i love that state but boy did they had

Neanderthals that running running it's

absolutely Neanderthals and by the way

and what runs MIOSHA got my ring on it

and it's clicking off our i think i'm

going to do a mom now remember these

balloons to make it two nite my crystal

here

yeah so anyway that's what we're dealing

with and I just hope that people get

pretty damn sick of it

will there be in peaches you know I

don't know I don't care we put somebody

in without thinking and serves us right

for being so obtuse and I've always said

in the United States you usually pretty

happy as long as that you can save

enough money for a at least a nice

three-year Carly on a a better car you

know mrs. this cell floor is incredible

i mean this it doesn't have one to be

even in the top ten in terms of the base

incomes for for the average proletariat

hear from the socialist proletariat most

people are making in in the 40 to 60 i

would say that's probably fair he s and

12 people at working in the family

household are making that so you can pay

your bills know

it allows for you to have rooms to go

furniture course it's a thousand dollars

for whole living room dining room or

bedroom suite and I understand its

twenty dollars a month without interest

i don't know all the small print but you

know who cares that's awfully cheap this

is the garbage collection and the cindy

crawford collection

I don't know who's like better typing

like the city regards collection and

this is via this is the Crawford

collection is a little bit more warmth

than either one of those but the

nitrogen it's been cold and thank you

everyone for supporting the station to

little bit more a little bit more

generously I think you so much I feel

still a little bit down here and

everybody's here but he had you know

four months of hard work and I can't say

I mean this is this comes pretty natural

to me is I really do love being with you

this is this the fun project i have more

troubled the uploading the finish to

video and then converting it into a form

that YouTube can use and so you can see

it i spent probably six hours doing that

and maybe just a couple of dollars to

impress them and and and post planning

forever for my films but wow this

ridiculous absolutely ridiculous

I have to find a better way and I think

that there is 1 i'm going to look at the

social blade i think they have an editor

that that you you could bring yourself

into or from the the video creator page

that's like when it's on that page on

the bottom says his a new way to to

upload or try the youtube video editor

i'm going to try that today if it works

with this transferring is thinking a lot

of time it's not and it's not going

through and I just including remove

waste more time it's taking the fun out

of something is beautiful and

so i would like to share that was

slipping down maybe if any of you guys

can tell me what I'm doing wrong I'm but

I'm shooting but in a mov film and has

to be converted to mp4 not shut up it's

not doing that well but you know it's I

think that I know what you know what has

to be done but I don't know how to do it

clean listen seamlessly so it can really

then that's the city any problems but

listen thank you again for sticking with

this i was watching a video creators

talked yesterday this and you are

probably why that you have a little bit

less viewership when you start up start

these programs out because your talent
