can be extremely stressful. I know that it's a very general statement, but
it's true if you've ever had to live without a kitchen sink for more then a few days

eliminate as much of the worry and stress from the process as possible for you.
That happens with clear communication and a solid plan before any product

as much as the remodel process as possible so before we take you on a tour

to see where this before and after story really begins. ♪
The original kitchen was a U-Shape design at the front of the home.
A peninsula with an overhanging soffit and wall cabinets created a corridor
from the front entry of the home. Wall cabinets above the peninsula
added storage, but also blocked eyesight and crowded the space.
This peninsula will come out along with the wall the divides the kitchen from the dining room.
By opening up this kitchen into the dining and nearby
front living room the functions and purposes of these spaces can become more versatile.
Laminate countertops and white appliances will be updated
to granite and stainless steel. We want the Village Home Show to give you
an accurate expectation of what it's like to remodel a kitchen. That is why
were not going to sugarcoat the timeline. Quality work doesn't happen
at a rapid pace. Quality work is done with care and concentration.
If someone is offering you a complete kitchen remodel that will be done in a week please
please look into their work before agreeing to anything. Again these things just don't
get completed overnight, but trust me Village Home Stores has taken many many
years to get the systems in place that we have and with every job we begin
we're trying to make any changes possible for the best end result for everyone.
Lets travel ahead from our before footage to 3 1/2 weeks later to check
in on the progress. A lot has happened to this space since we last visited.
The new kitchen area is already starting to take shape and that is saying a lot
since there are no cabinets in place yet. So much work has happened
to prepare the room for the new design. Plumbing has been disconnected and the original
kitchen was torn out including the original flooring and wallpaper.
The next phase of the project after tear out is to roughen all the new locations
for plumbing, ductwork and electrical. The new hardwood
flooring has been delivered to the home and time was allowed to acclimate.
It was then installed throughout the new kitchen as well as dining room and
adjacent living room. As soon as the floors are down their protected
right away with a heavy duty material called Ram Board. This Ram Board
gets installed before anymore work is completed in the space.
Cabinetry can begin to get set once the floors have been protected, and now
the new kitchen will truly begin to take shape. The very same morning we showed
up to find the flooring getting completed ended with this much progress
later that same afternoon. Each of these crews needs their own time
at the job site and to be scheduled in the correct sequence. All of that scheduling
is orchestrated by our project management team for you. You have all access to all
necessary information and the project schedule. This information
is found in hard copy form at the job site binder that stays at the home
and can be also accessed online anytime on a desktop computer or
your mobile device when your logged into our system. Your crews are
also able to access schedules and select project informaiton from this same system
on their own mobile devices plus share photos or information with each other
about your project. When we stopped out to film this kitchen mid-project
we were thrilled that this customer was so complimentary at how well
these separate crews worked with and around each other to keep her project on track.

Since our last visit to this East Moline kitchen the entire project has wrapped up.
Cabinetry and trim were installed, countertops were templated and installed,

The new appliances where then delivered and a day is allowed for any follow up carpentry or

lets show you the after. Who better to show off this new
kitchen then the 5 adorable grandchildren that will get to enjoy it often.
A wall that used to block the kitchen from the rest of the main level is now opened up
and replaced by a half wall at bar height. Now the kitchen peninsula
has 2 heights and the view from the corner of the original kitchen has gone from cramped
and crowded to open and inviting. Koch cabinetry in a
Birch wood species has been stained a rich Brandy finish and with the new
open space for the kitchen the layout is able to spread out and offer more storage
and countertop space throughout. Before the cabinetry was put in
beautiful Acacia hardwood flooring was installed. This hardwood
now brings the entire new open space floor plan of the main level of this home into
1 cohesive look. The richness of the dark stained cabinets
is complimented perfectly by the black pearl polished granite tops.
There has been no granite backsplash installed so that this Greecian white marble tile
can bring a bright contrast to the walls. Of course we can never
mention any gorgeous tile backsplash without including a mention of our L.E.D.
diode undercabinet lighting. Not only does this diode lighting help showcase
your tile investment it is the best task lighting you can ask for and you
will love having it day and night. In the new kitchen layout the sink
sits beneath the new bar top peninsula and the Whirlpool dishwasher is
right next to that. The view in towards the new kitchen includes an angled
end cabinet on the wall. Including angled end cabinets like this on
the end of a run cabinets can polish off the look instead of looking too boxed off.
Considering adding a finished interior and glass inserts
in cabinets like this if your wanting a space for displaying items. A base
lazy susan turns the corner into the new cooking zone in the kitchen.
Great pots and pans storage surrounds a brand new Whirlpool range and microwave hood.
The new range has 5 elements on top and 6.4
cubic feet of capacity in the oven. One of the 5 cooktop
elements mentioned is a flex heat triple radiant element.
One of these is like having 3 elements in 1. It includes a 6 inch
a 9 inch and a 12 inch ring all in 1 convenient location in the cooking
surface. Save time when you only need to bake with 1 rack. The rapid
preheat feature on this unit uses all the elements and rear convection fan
to heat the oven quickly. This new microwave hood from Whirlpool
includes an innovative clean rinse non-stick interior and 2.0 cubic
feet of space. Microwave hoods can be installed to vent out
of your kitchen or recirculate air back into the space. The wall cabinet
to the left of this new range has been fit with a wall spice organizer.
Opposite from the new kitchen sink is a wall filled with cabinetry.
In the original kitchen this wall was empty. Now it includes a beautiful new hutch
area and nearly 13 feet of countertop surface.
2 large base cabinets have been fit with full depth shelves. 2 sliding
shelves have been included in the narrow cabinet before the corner. Above this
storage is a stunning new hutch area including Prairie Mullion doors.
Wine racks complete the look and help set this area apart from the rest of the kitchen
as a beautiful new section visible from many areas of the main floor. Be
sure to discuss with your designer about adding our diode L.E.D. lighting in areas
other then underneath your cabinets. In this case the glass door cabinet is illuminated
perfectly. Turning the corner you will find the new refrigerator
and pantry area as well as a landing space by the garage entrance.
When you include a tall pantry cabinet near your refrigerator you're already
half way to a built in look surrounding the fridge. This design includes
a pantry on the left and a wood panel on the right and bridges a space between
with a wide and deep cabinet above. Keeping all of your tall and
deep units together helps allow the rest of your kitchen design to seem more spacious
and open. The new kitchen is finished off with crown molding and light rail.
Now that the kitchen is open to the two nearby rooms on the main level
this home has been given a whole new look. These 2 nearby rooms
maybe considered a dining room and a living room, but now that their part of one great room
the options to use this space are limitless. The larger room
of the two has a lighting plan in place so that if it ends up being used as a large dining

Welcome to this beautiful new kitchen in Davenport Iowa.

scheduled months of work from 8 different crews and it was managed all from start to finish
by Village Home Stores. Not only have we removed the dividing wall
but we've also filled in an existing open pass through window.
Now the space has been customized to fit the new kitchen layout. The original

undercabinet lighting system. With the window moved up from it's original
location, the new kitchen sink can now sit below it and storage
and counter space can extend down the wall into where the original kitchen was.
A pull-out towel cabinet is located to the left of the sink base and next
to the dishwasher a recycling center cabinet has been installed. Above the
sink is a valance area that includes a straight valance and box columns on each
end. A beautiful way to bridge this space surrounding the window.
The new location for the refrigerator keeps all of the taller items together
and creates a built-in look surrounding the refrigerator. A 3 foot wide
pantry cabinet is fit with slide-out shelves for easy access to this great
storage space. Capping off this section of cabinetry is an open bookshelf
cabinet installed to face the entrance from the back end of the home.
With wall cabinets and crown molding now stretching all the way to the ceiling there's no
longer a space to display items above them. Now this open shelf cabinet
gives a furniture look similar to a built-in area you might see in a great room.
Plenty of display space when needed. The same boxed column look
from above the sink is repeated in the hood area above the range.
What was once a sideboard wall for the dining room is now the main cooking
center of the new kitchen design. There is now plenty of surface
on each side of the range for food prep in addition to the new large island countertop
surface within reach. The new design is now large enough to accommodate
an island over 8 foot in length. The island has been ordered in the same cabinet
style and construction, but with a painted black finish applied.
A wide stack of drawers in the center and 2 base cabinets on each end
both fit with 2 slide-out shelves within. On the back of the island custom
