Hello, welcome to "counseling & words"
and to my word of today. Today I want to
talk about the German word "Waldeinsamkeit".
That is actually a pretty
old-fashioned word and I guess the
Germans invented it several centuries ago;
it's really old-fashioned but still
necessary to know, especially nowadays I
think. Well, "Waldeinsamkeit" consists of
two words, first we have the word "Wald"
meaning forest and then we have the word
"Einsamkeit"
meaning loneliness or solitude.
"Waldeinsamkeit" means the feeling of
being alone in the woods; but this
feeling is not negative no no on the
contrary it's very positive.
Well, "Waldeinsamkeit" can be described
as wonderful, peaceful, relaxing and so on
and so on.
you are at one with the universe, free
and meditative. Actually you can say it's
falling in love with being alone.
It's very very positive. "Waldeinsamkeit"
refers to having a connection with
nature and you are enjoying your time
alone and surrounded by nature; so
it's absolutely great.
Nowadays many people spend more time
with their several devices than in nature,
like well phones, tablets, computers etc
and so on and so on they are too
absorbing, so we prefer actually to sit
on our couches, eyes down and completely
caught by screens, like you know?
Anyway. "Waldeinsamkeit" can provide
us with something different and while we
walk through the woods we are alone with
our thoughts, we listen to the sounds
around us;
well: bird twittering or rustling of
leaves and all the sounds you can hear
when in the forest; our eyes see all the
colours of nature and we have to find our
way through. So "Waldeinsamkeit" gives
us and our body a complete experience of
being. We are surrounded by nature and we
are allowed to hold on for a while and
to forget stress and all these annoying
banalities. And the word "Waldeinsamkeit"
is so specific that it's really
difficult to find an English equivalent.
So I'd say it can be translated as
something like solitude or even
meditation. Experiencing "Waldeinsamkeit"
might seem scary;
well, imagine you are alone in the woods
and no one there; it's dark; it might
be really well maybe it
yeah it seems scary, but actually it's
not, it's absolutely positive.
It suggests a calm meditative atmosphere
and you are surrounded by a beautiful
setting. If you've ever taken a walk
alone through a forest and you felt
better for it, then you know what I'm
talking about, and you you'll understand.
So the woods, it seems, is the place
to go to meditate and relax and get, well,
and also get some fresh air of course. So
many years ago people just knew what to
do when stressed out.
They walked through the woods to
find inner balance; and why shouldn't
that be possible today too? Maybe it's
time for some "Waldeinsamkeit" in our
busy busy world. So that was about my
German word "Waldeinsamkeit". Thank you
very much for watching and maybe you
find some time to go out and well
experience a bit of nature. It hasn't to
be a forest. It can be a park, a beach
or just go out and get some fresh air.
Yes, thank you and see you next week
with a new word.
Yeah, enjoy your "Waldeinsamkeit". Bye-bye!
