Russian Navy Gets A New Icebreaker For The First Time in 50 Years - Duration: 5:49.
Events began this week in Moscow honoring
the 350th anniversary of boat and shipbuilding in Russia.
They are being held by the Russian Historical Society and chaired by Sergey Naryshkin.
At one time the anniversary was the only thing to celebrate,
because it seemed that the industry was dying. But today we have entered a new era.
Our correspondent Dmitry Khrustalev visited the most modern shipyards in St. Petersburg
and the original homeland of Russian shipbuilding, which is located in the Moscow Region.
Electronic jamming equipment,
anti-aircraft weapons with below deck launchers,
and mounted guns, which are unique for Russia and the world for now.
The newest frigate, Admiral Gorshkov, is the most modern stealth warship in Russia.
Among the main advantages is its ability to travel long distances.
Final testing will begin at the end of this month,
and in summer, the frigate will go to join its fleet.
Dedinovo village near Kolomna in the Moscow Region.
Yes, Peter the Great created the first Russian fleet,
but it was during Aleksey Mikhailovich's reign, Peter I's father,
who started the shipbuilding industry.
By decree of Aleksey, the construction of a 22-gun frigate began here 350 years ago.
To construct the European class ships, the wood needed to first be dried for 1 to 3 years.
Boards and metal bars were taken from local farmers.
Some wood used was left over from the construction of a Moscow River bridge.
The construction site was not chosen randomly.
The oldest shipyard was once located near where today stands a memorial and the Trinity Church.
Dedinovo was famous for their domestic shipbuilders and carpenters.
Dutch craftsmen were invited to supervise the work.
The first domestic ship, Oryol, built using European technology, had a very unique feature.
This marine ship was able to pass across the Oka's shallow river waters
and travel up the Volga river to Astrakhan.
This was due to the draft of this sea ship only being half a meter.
However, the first voyage turned out to be the last one.
The ship came to the same place where the Stenka Razin uprising broke out and was abandoned.
Today it seems that domestic shipbuilding has all but been abandoned.
Let's go back to St. Petersburg.
A domestic know-how of the XXI century.
A sea trawler. A mine defense ship with the world's largest monolithic fiberglass hull.
This technology is being used in Russia for the first time.
This is the Baltiysky Zavod factory.
At the beginning of the last century, the first Russian combat submarine was built here.
Now, they build the most modern icebreakers here.
Today, the once world's most powerful Arctic icebreaker Krasin,
which is as old as the Russian revolution,
looks very humble next to the Arctic, the world's biggest,
most modern and most powerful two-reactor nuclear icebreaker.
Innovative design allows to adjust the depth of the ice-breaker's immersion in the water.
This means that it can lead ships not only through Arctic ice, but also into the mouths of rivers.
Length is nearly 200 meters, width 34 meters, and height is the same as a nine storey building.
Two reactors produce 175 megawatts each, enough to provide power to a major city for years.
The icebreaker can function in stand-alone mode without having to enter any port for years.
Of all the new nuclear icebreakers, the Arctic will be the main one,
which will allow Russia to rule the high latitudes.
According to experts, in the world today there is no comparison.
Due to its power and thickness of the hull, which reaches up to 40 millimeters,
the icebreaker is able to go through ice as thick as three meters.
No ship in the world can break through such ice.
On the other side of the Neva River, stands the old Admiralty Shipyards.
And there stands something else to be proud of, the icebreaker "Ilya Muromets".
It is both a tugboat and a patrol ship.
On board, it has equipment for containing oil spills and extinguishing fires at needed emergency facilities.
The new icebreaker will join the Navy for the first time in half a century.
As part of Russia's import substitution program, we were able to maximize the use
of domestic equipment to build this icebreaker, such as the power system and ship control systems.
A huge number of pumps, devices, and accessories were all made in Russia.
In general, the overall trend in recent years has been
choosing domestic suppliers of equipment and on board systems.
We have created a plan on the development of the shipbuilding industry until 2030,
which will require all relevant enterprises to work at their capacities.
First of all, we will put an emphasis on developing marine equipment.
The Northern Shipyard in St. Petersburg is impressive.
The Shipbuilding Corporation will launch their first pilot project there.
They will use all possible advanced technologies that exist in the world of shipbuilding.
It will be the northern point of building of heavy-tonnage vessels
both for military and domestic ships. It will also be the best in blank hull manufacturing.
It will allow us to move large sections regarding the building of megablocks.
It will be the first experience of building in the European part of Russia and on the Northern Shipyard.
During the 350th anniversary since the launching of Russia's first warship,
many people often speak about the importance of the domestic shipbuilding industry.
The landmark date will be here soon. It is June 29.
This was the day when Tsar Aleksey Mikhailovich issued the now famous decree.
The day, which has been repeatedly proposed to be made the official holiday of shipbuilders.
Dmitry Khrustalev, Ivan Utkin, Igor Vologdin, Stanislav Petrov,
Igor Belogurov, and Maria Bizyaeva, Vesti Saturday. Saint Petersburg, Moscow, and Dedinovo.

Karpine Back Cover REVIEW & Tempered Glass Quality Issues of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (Transparent Case) - Duration: 1:41.
Whtizup guys!
In this video lets checkout the Quality of the Karpine Transparent Back Cover & have
a look at the present issue of really bad Quality Tempered Glasses being sold online
for the Redmi Note 4 On opening the package, you'll find only the
transparent case itself.
And as you can see it has a Crystal finish kind of look.
With no sharp edges & bumps anywhere on the case, its safe to say that it has a good finish.
The size & fitting is good and it doesn't come off that easily.
The transparency is good & ensures that the good Lookz of your phone is not concealed.
Infact from a distance nobody will notice that you are using a case😊 Also I prefer
a hard case instead of a soft one because the degree of protection is greater in preventing
dents.
So this is definitely a good buy👌 Now coming to the tempered glass issue, there
seemz to be an overflow of poor Quality glasses flooding the online stores.
Until now I had to return three of them because of wrongly placed holes, as you can see.
So, itz better to wait it out till the good Quality ones arrive!
Just a screen protector will do for now but even that is mostly out of stock in the Mi
Store!

U.N. chief affirms full support for Yemen peace envoy February 12, 2017 - Duration: 10:32.
U.N. chief affirms full support for Yemen peace envoy
U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Sunday the U.N. envoy to Yemen had his
full support, days after Yemen's Houthi group asked him not to renew the diplomat's term
due to what it said was bias against the Iranian-aligned movement.
"Our envoy has my full support and I believe that he is doing an impartial work, that he
is doing it in a very professional way and independently of what other people may think,
he has my full support," said Guterres during a stop in Riyadh, part of a regional tour
that also includes the United Arab Emirates.
In a joint news conference with Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir in Riyadh, Guterres
appealed to the combatants in Yemen's almost two-year-old war not to exploit the delivery
of humanitarian aid, adding any such action was to be condemned.
A top official of the Houthi-led government which controls Yemen's capital called on the
world body on Friday not renew the term of U.N. envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, saying
he had shown "lack of neutrality" and sympathy for a Saudi-led coalition that is fighting
to reinstate Yemen's internationally-recognized government.
Ould Cheikh Ahmed, who has served as U.N. Yemen envoy since April 2015, has brokered
several ceasefires in a conflict that has killed more than 10,000 people.
The truces have tended to founder within days.
At the press conference, Jubeir said he expected support for rebels in Syria to continue despite
the fall of Aleppo to the Syrian government in December, but noted that any decision would
be made as part of the U.S.-led international coalition.
"We believe that the moderate opposition has an important role to play.
We believe that they need to be able to defend themselves, as well as to fight against Daesh
and Al Qaeda," he said.
Jubeir also described the Saudi-American relationship as "excellent," continuing to signal warm
ties with the new administration of U.S. President Donald Trump after visiting Washington and
New York earlier this month.
"We see eye to eye when it comes to the situation in Lebanon, in Syria, in Iraq, in Yemen, in
Libya.
We see eye to eye when it comes to the danger of Iranian interference in the affairs of
other countries," he said.
Jubeir's comments came two days after CIA chief Mike Pompeo made the first visit to
Saudi Arabia by a Trump administration cabinet member.
Pompeo came to Riyadh to award Crown Prince and Interior Minister Mohammed bin Nayef the
George Tenet medal, an award for counter-terrorism work named after a former CIA chief, Saudi
media reported.
Jubeir declined to discuss the agenda of Pompeo's visit outside, but said "it shouldn't come
as a surprise" given extensive security ties between the two countries.
Spain's anti-austerity Podemos seeks to stamp out divisions
Spain's anti-austerity Podemos party sought on Sunday to draw a line under a recent internal
conflict that has marred its image following its meteoric rise, as supporters voted to
back leader Pablo Iglesias and stick to the movement's leftist roots.
Podemos ("We Can") emerged as one of Europe's most prominent anti-austerity parties after
winning over millions of voters in the wake of a deep recession and disrupting four decades
of a stable two-party system in Spain.
It came third in two inconclusive elections in December 2015 and June 2016 with just over
20 percent of the vote, enough to deny its bigger rivals an absolute majority and putting
it almost neck-and-neck with the traditional center-left Socialists.
But a dispute between some of Podemos' senior leaders over the party's direction barely
three years after it was founded by Iglesias and fellow political scientists has threatened
to stunt its progress and even raised the prospect of a split.
A majority of grassroots supporters on Sunday rallied behind Iglesias, re-electing him as
leader and backing his far-left vision for the party, which was born out of mass street
protests at the height of Spain's economic crisis.
Iglesias, a 38-year-old pony-tailed professor who built up a strong personal following through
TV talk show appearances, faced a challenge from his number two in Podemos, Inigo Errejon,
who has pushed for a more moderate approach with policies designed to lure voters from
across the political spectrum.
"Change is still in the air and today Podemos is stronger and more mature," Iglesias told
party members at a conference in Madrid after his strategy proposals received the most votes,
to chants of "unity, unity".
Errejon, 33, was pushed down the party pecking order as a result of the vote.
Dismay over the spat, which had spilled over into the public arena as Iglesias and Errejon
locked horns on Twitter and in parliament, had spread to Podemos' senior ranks and prompted
resignations among the leadership team in recent weeks.
Podemos has sought to cast itself as the main opposition party after conservative Prime
Minister Mariano Rajoy secured a second term in office last October, at the helm of a minority
government.
But many of its supporters are reluctant to see Podemos - which tapped into discontent
over political corruption among Spain's old guard - drift idealogically into the center
ground space occupied by the Socialists.
"Podemos needs to reinforce itself on the left," said unemployed Manuel Vidal, 52, at
the party conference.
The internal divisions in Podemos come as Rajoy, 61, reinforces his own position and
vaunts the stability offered by his party.
He was re-elected as leader of his People's Party (PP) on Saturday for the fourth time
since 2004.
Trump aide says endorsement of Ivanka's brand was 'light-hearted'
A top aide to U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday defended his colleague, Kellyanne
Conway, after she was widely criticized for her public endorsement of the fashion line
of Trump's daughter, Ivanka.
Speaking on ABC's "This Week" program, White House aide Stephen Miller said Trump adviser
Conway was making a "light-hearted, flippant" comment when she urged Americans to buy Ivanka
Trump's products.
Conway's comments prompted criticism from both Republican and Democratic lawmakers,
as well as some legal experts who said she may have violated ethics rules that prohibit
using a public office to endorse products or advance personal business gains.
In comments to the Associated Press last week, Republican Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the
House of Representatives Oversight committee, said Conway's statement was "clearly over
the line, unacceptable."
Elijah Cummings, the top Democrat on the same committee, said on Sunday that Miller's characterization
of Conway's remarks was incorrect.
"This was a textbook case of a violation of the law," he said on "This Week."
Cummings said he was troubled by the fact that Trump is the authority who will ultimately
decide how to punish Conway, if at all, after the Office of Government Ethics issues its
recommendation on the matter.
Conway made the comments after retailer Nordstrom said it would stop selling Ivanka Trump's
clothing line, a move that had prompted a tweet from the president blasting Nordstrom.
Nordstrom said it had made the decision to drop the brand because sales had steadily
declined, especially in the last half of 2016, to where carrying the line "didn't make good
business sense."
Nordstrom shares initially fell after the president's criticism last Wednesday, but
closed up 4 percent on the New York Stock Exchange that day.
On Saturday, a spokesman for major U.S. retailers Sears and Kmart said they had removed 31 Trump
Home items from their online product offerings in order to focus on more profitable merchandise.
Macy's could have 50 percent upside in a sale Barron's
Macy's Inc (M.N) could see its shares rise by 50 percent in a potential sale, as the
struggling retailer looks to turn around its business by downsizing its physical-store
operations and reinvesting in its online presence, Barron's said on Sunday.
The Cincinnati-based company, which in recent years has become the sixth-largest online
retailer, is a bargain for investors despite Wall Street's gloomy outlook with management's
plans to close 100 underperforming stores, which could increase its stock by 20 to 30
percent.
It also plans to cut up to 10,000 jobs out of a total 157,900.
That could reduce costs by $550 million annually, freeing up funds to invest in the company's
growing online business.
Earlier this month, Hudson's Bay Co (HBC.TO) made a takeover approach for the retailer
in an effort to further push into the U.S. market, according to people familiar with
the matter.
A potential sale, particularly one with a spinoff of the company's real estate assets,
could boost Macy's stock to $45 to $50, the report added.
On Friday, its stock closed at $31.99.
Macy's property portfolio is estimated to be worth as much as $21 billion.
It has around 900 stores in the United States, which includes its Bloomingdale's outlets
and its flagship store in New
York City's Herald Square.
